ROSA MCDONALD

TYRONE, Okla. ­ Rosa McDonald, 79, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was born July 6, 1922, to William and Letha (Cone) Weisshaar in Shattuck, Okla.

She married Henry L. "Hank" McDonald Oct. 19, 1943, in Hooker, Okla. He died Jan. 21, 1990.

She attended school in Balko, Okla., and graduated from Turpin, (Okla.) High School in 1940.

She and her husband made their home in Logan, N.M., and later Meade. She moved to Tyrone after her husband entered the armed services during World War II. Following the war, they moved to Romero, Texas, and then later to Stratford, Texas. They moved to Hooker in 1960 and then back to Tyrone in 1988.

She worked as an operator in Tyrone.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Tyrone.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah's, and served as president of the Loyal Helpers. She also served on the Texas County Election Board and Tyrone Election Board, as treasurer of the Tyrone Senior Citizens and helped with the Texas County Fair. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and helped out at the Hooker Chamber of Commerce.

Her hobbies included playing cards, making calendars and sewing.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Baker, Tyrone, and Tresa Klock, Watauga, Texas; one brother, William Weisshaar, Wichita; six grandchildren, Tammy Suddeth, Heath Baker, Gwen North, Ricky Klock, Billy Klock and Gary Klock; three great-grandchildren, A.J. Suddeth, Sydney Suddeth and Brianna North.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Letha Mary Weisshaar, Hattie Curtis, Ruby Barnum and Pearl Dirmann; one brother, Fred Weisshaar; and her guardian son, Daren Shives.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Tyrone with the Revs. Kim Domnick and Greg Keith presiding.

Burial was at Tyrone Cemetery in Tyrone.

Robert Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla., was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Tyrone Cemetery Fund, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

ABRAM ISAAC

TURPIN, Okla. -- Abram Isaac, 96, long-time Turpin resident, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at Bethel Home in Montezuma.

He was born Nov. 19, 1905, to Abraham J. and Marie (Wiens) Isaac in McPherson County.

He married Agnes Velma Siebert Dec. 9, 1926. She preceded him in death.

He moved with his parents to Beaver County, Okla., when he was a small child.

He and his wife lived on a farm east of Turpin, where he farmed all of his life.

During the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, he and his family moved to Inman, where he worked at various odd jobs. They later moved back to their farm near Turpin.

He moved to Bethel Home in Montezuma in 1993.

He was a member of the Adams Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams, Okla.

Survivors include two sons, Vernon Isaac and wife, Karen, Edson, and Harold Isaac and wife, Karen, Hooker, Okla.; two daughters, Emmalene Thomas and husband, Ronnie, Bartlesville, Okla., and Josephine Balzer and husband, Joelle, Prairieville, La.; two sisters, Regina Janzen and husband, Marvin, Medford, Okla., and Irma Ediger, Bessie, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Leah Velma and Frances Alene; three brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Wyatt Carpenter presiding.

Burial will be at Mennonite Cemetery in Adams.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home of Montezuma in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

MARY MEIERS

GROVE, Okla. -- Mary "Billie" Meiers, 83, Grove, formerly of Liberal, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Grove Nursing Center in Grove.

She was born May 27, 1918, to John E. and Sarah L. (Johnson) Hood in Harrison, Ark.

She married John F. Sewell. He died in December 1952.

She married Fred A. Meiers. He preceded her in death.

She grew up in the Harrison community and graduated from Harrison High School.

She moved to Liberal in 1967 and later moved to Grove in 2000.

While in Liberal, she received the Good Samaritan Award.

Survivors include five sons, Franklin Sewell and wife, Pat, Ulysses, Jarrel Sewell and wife, Shirley, Plainview, Texas, Melvin Sewell and wife, Sandy, Tonganoxie, Gary Sewell and wife, Susan, Joplin, Mo., and Maurice Sewell and wife, Patty, Grove; two daughters, Donna Lyles, Wichita, and Sharon Johnson and husband, Harold, Pittsburg; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; one sister; and one son, Verlin Sewell.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Moscow Cemetery in Moscow with Ronald Masson presiding.

Miller Mortuary in Liberal is in charge of arrangements.

DORIS M. MARTINEZ

NORMAN, Okla. -- Doris Margaret Kerlick Martinez, 88, Norman, died Monday, April 22, 2002, in Norman.

She was born Dec. 28, 1913, to Gus William and Edith Lilly (Burright) Kerlick in Cogar, Okla.

She married Jimmie F. Martinez Aug. 17, 1940, in Fort Smith, Ark. He survives.

She attended Lone Rock School and Minco High School. She graduated from Binger High School in 1932.

She received a teaching certificate from Central State University in 1934 and began her teaching career.

She and her husband bought a farm north of Carnegie, Okla., in May 1945. They moved to the farm in January 1946.

She was a homemaker and was active in Farm Bureau.

She attended Southwestern State University and graduated in August 1965 with a degree in elementary education and social studies.

She was a member of "Gavel Club" of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women. She was president of the North Carnegie Home Demonstration Club and Caddo County Women's Group.

She also served as southwest region director of the Girl Scouts Council during the early 1960s.

She and her husband moved to Liberal in 1968, where she taught at Liberal schools until her retirement in 1981.

They moved from Liberal to Norman in the summer of 1994.

She was a member of the Alameda Church of Christ in Norman.

Other survivors include one daughter, Sherri Logan, Norman; four brothers, Stanley Kerlick and wife, Ruth, Dallas, George Kerlick and wife, Dorothy, Cogar, Leo Kerlick, Honolulu, and Winfred Kerlick and wife, Zella, Oklahoma City; one sister, Jewell Clarkson, Norman; and one grandchild, Jay Logan, Norman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jimmie Lynne Martinez; one brother, Sidney Kerlick; and two sisters, Pearl Turner and Ruth Spomer.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Alameda Church of Christ in Norman with Glen Walton presiding.

Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Minco, Okla.

Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman is in charge of arrangements.

JOANN L. WELLS

GUYMON, Okla. -- Joann Louise Wells, 61, Guymon, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Moore County Hospital in Dumas, Texas.

She was born May 29, 1940, to Charles Earl and Mary Ellen (Lovell) Hammock in Shattuck, Okla.

She married Donald A. Wells Feb. 25, 1961, in Gage, Okla. He survives.

She graduated from Shattuck High School in 1958 and from Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla., in 1961, where she earned a bachelor's of science degree. She earned a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1983.

She was a member and past president of the Eta Beta Chapter, Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

She retired in 1995 after 30 years of service as senior vocational counselor with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

After retirement, she owned and operated "The Sunflower Patch" craft shop.

She was a member of the Nazarene Church.

She was recognized in the 1977 publication of Outstanding Young Women of America.

Other survivors include her mother, of Shattuck; her mother-in-law, Martha Wells, Guymon; two sons, Randie Lee Wells and wife, Sheila, Cincinnati, and Jon August Wells and wife, Denise, Guymon; four grandchildren, Cody, Darin, Amber and Joshua; and one sister, Eleanor Kolb and husband, Gary, San Antonio.

She was preceded in death by her father and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Guymon with the Rev. Mark Wescoatt presiding.

Burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.

The family suggests memorials to the donor's charity of choice in care of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
