HAROLD D. KRAUSE

HOOKER, Okla. ­ Harold Dean Krause, 68, died Monday, June 10, 2002, at his home in Hooker.

He was born Oct. 7, 1933, to Harold Faydell and Gladys Mae (Hudson) Krause in Council Grove.

He married Cecelia Shaw July 7, 1957, in Council Grove.

He married Rosa Munkres Adams Jan. 6, 1996, in Liberal. She survives.

He grew up in Council Grove and graduated in 1952 from Council Grove High School. In 1954, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in White Sands, N.M., working on the first guided missiles. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

He had worked as a salesman and buyer for food distribution companies: 25 years for Fairmont Foods and for Nash Finch for 16 years, retiring in 1999.

After he retired, he helped many farmers in the Hooker area, especially Chris Grounds and David Rapp.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and was president of the Liberal Booster Club.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Other survivors include two sons, Kory Krause and wife, Julie, Liberal, and Koby Krause, Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Shawna Pittser and husband, Buddy, Liberal; one step-son, Greg Adams and wife, Jeannie, Hooker; one step-daughter, Teresa Hofferber and husband, Steve, Collinsville, Okla.; three sisters, Jean Marsh and husband, Bob, Shirlee Yadon and husband, Cecil, all of Council Grove, and Judy Phillips and husband, James, Stroud, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Yadon.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Hooker with Neville Buchanan presiding.

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery in Hooker.

Memorials are suggested to Guymon Home Health Care and Hospice in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

MARJORIE A. GROUNDS

HOOKER, Okla. ­ Marjorie A. Grounds, 71, formerly of rural Hooker, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at her home in McPherson.

She was born Aug. 13, 1930, to George Greer and Willow Mai (Greer) Murphy in Tyrone, Okla.

She married Gene Grounds Sept. 11, 1949, in rural Hooker. He survives.

She graduated from Liberal High School in 1948.

She worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline.

She had been a longtime resident of the Hooker area, before she and her husband moved to McPherson in 1980. She worked as a secretary for her and her husband's oil business company.

Her hobbies included golfing, reading, and visiting with family.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hooker.

She was also a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Other survivors include three sons, Douglas Gene Grounds, Hutchinson, Gregory Dean Grounds and wife, Teresa, and Chris Alan Grounds and wife, Kelie, all of Hooker; one daughter, Traci Margene Williams and husband, Neal, Alva, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Jason Grounds and wife, Sarah, Tulsa, Okla., Nic Grounds, Norman, Okla., Megan, Luke and Marc Grounds, all of Hooker, Haley Williams, Oklahoma City, and Ryan and Taryn Williams, Alva; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Hooker with the Rev. Merilee Berry presiding.

She will be cremated after the services.

Memorials are suggested to either the Hospice of Reno County or the American Cancer Society, both in care of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, 207 N. Swem, Hooker, OK 73945.

Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home in Alva and Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker.

JERRY L. DAVIS

BEAVER, Okla. ­ Jerry Lee Davis, 50, died Friday, June 21, 2002, of a sudden illness at his home in Beaver.

He was born Oct. 3, 1951, to LaVerne D. and Doris (Criswell) Davis in Beaver.

He married Trella L. Hill Dec. 6, 1982 in Beaver.

He grew up in the Balko, Okla. community and graduated from Turpin, Okla. High School in 1969. He took computer classes in Kansas City following his graduation from high school and then attended Southwestern University of Oklahoma in Weatherford, Okla.

He returned to the Balko community where he was engaged in farming and ranching. He also owned a gravel business.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Beaver.

Survivors include his parents of Balko; two sons, Colt Lee Davis, Turpin and Heath Vern Davis, Balko; his companion, Deborah Cowan, Beaver; one step-son, Josh Randall, Woodward, Okla.; and one sister, Karen Gross and husband, Joe, Balko.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Beaver, with the Rev. Mike Crow presiding.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 8-10 a.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

The family suggests memorials to the Jerry L. Davis Memorial Fund, in care of the Beaver City Bank, Turpin Branch, Turpin, OK 73950 or in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67901.

HAZEL SMITH

BEAVER, Okla. -- Hazel "Darlene" Smith, 68, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born in Balko, Okla.

She was a lifetime resident of Beaver County.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Russell, Liberal, and Janet Almond, Tipton, Okla.; her step-mother, Louise Harryman, Beaver; three brothers, Gorlynn Harryman, Ponca City, Okla., Gilbert Judd, Beaver, and Milton Judd, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Glenna Leason, Mannford, Okla., and Raedene Thompson, Beaver; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the Beaver United Methodist Church in Beaver, with John Breon presiding.

Burial was at the Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver County.

Clark Funeral Services in Beaver was in charge of arrangements.

STACY K. GOWAN

TURPIN, Okla. -- Stacy K. Gowan, 33, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at her mother's residence in Turpin.

She was born Jan. 9, 1969, to Jewel R. and Mary Ann (Kost) Musgrave.

She graduated from Liberal High School in 1987.

She was a resident of Oklahoma City for 10 years. She moved back to Turpin one year ago.

She was a dispatcher for Halliburton.

She was a member of the Turpin Baptist Church in Turpin, Okla.

Survivors include her mother; two daughters, Jessica Ann Castenada, and Mariana Castenada, both of Turpin; one brother, Jay Musgrave, Turpin; and one sister, Tammy Janzen, Liberal.

She was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents, Glenn and Irene Kost and Lee and Tennie Musgrave.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Turpin Baptist Church in Turpin, with the Pastor Wyatt Carpenter presiding.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to the Turpin Baptist Church in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second Street, Liberal, KS 67901.

MARVA S. MILLER

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. ­ Marva Sue Miller, 66, former Liberal resident, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in Oklahoma City.

She was born May 25, 1936, to William Russell and Helen Ruth Dillman in Independence.

She married Paul E. Miller. He survives.

She had been a long-time resident of Southwest Kansas, graduating from Garden City High School and Garden City Community College.

She lived in Liberal for 30 years, and during her time in Liberal, she had worked as a legal secretary and medical transcriptionist.

She was a dancer and taught dance for many years. She was a dance organizer at the Liberal Senior Center. She also worked several years as a part-time ballroom dance instructor at Seward County Community College.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Liberal, where for the past five years she was secretary, and also taught Sunday School and vacation Bible school.

Other survivors include four sons, Russell Groth and Kirk Groth, both of Garden City, and Ken Groth and Don Hubbard, both Oklahoma City; one daughter, Cené Gibson, Oklahoma City; two step-children, Karla Epple, Sabetha, and Doug Miller, Marble Falls, Texas; one sister, Linda Hartley, Oklahoma City; 24 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Liberal.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in the memory of Marva to support the children's ministry of the First Presbyterian Church, 1551 N. Western Ave., Liberal, KS 67901.
