ROYCE MIRES

Royce Mires, 96, of Adams, Okla. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.

Royce George Mires was born on July 19, 1907, in Cookville, Tenn. the son of Thomas Eddington and Mary Lou Wiggains Mires. Royce left Tennessee as a young teenager to seek his fortune in California.

A few years later, he moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle to help his brother, Dudley, harvest wheat. He continued to live with Dudley and his family until he graduated from high school. The brothers opened the Mires Hardware in Adams in 1930, a business which survived and is owned and operated by Dudley's son, Gilbert.

Royce married Mary Ann Schroeder on March 31, 1932, after having met her when she came to help her sister, Lula Wichert, who lived across the street from the hardware store.

Royce sold his share of the store to Dudley in 1938 and became a full-time farmer-rancher, moving his family to a small farm two and a half miles south of Adams. Royce enjoyed farming and caring for his cattle, providing for his family, doing some community service work. He helped get the necessary names of prospective subscribers for rural electrification, and later rural telephones. He knew the importance of serving the Lord and was an elder at the Adams Church of Christ and later, the Tyrone Church of Christ.

In addition to serving on the electric and telephone coop boards, Royce helped get the Panhandle State University Church of Christ Bible Chair started and served on that board many years.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents, two step-mothers, 13 siblings, one grandchild, one great-grandchild and one son-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two half-sisters; one half-brother; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren and his four daughters, Dolores Hanna and her husband, Paul, Columbia, Mo., Sue Antwine and her husband, Bill, Edmond, Okla., Joan Chuesberg and her husband, Leon, Adams, Okla. and Vida Walker and her husband, Joe, Topeka.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the Hooker Church of Christ with Richard Dent officiating.

Interment will be at the Hooker Cemetery directed by the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Okla.

Memorials are suggested to the PSU Bible Chair in Goodwell, Okla. or the "In Search Of The Lord's Way" T.V. program or your favorite children's home and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

VICKIE DUNCAN

HOOKER, Okla. -- Vickie Duncan, 40, died Thursday, February 5, 2004, at her home in Hooker.

She was born May 14, 1963, to Larry Dean and Helen Jean Yocham Purcell in Liberal.

She married Kip Duncan.

She attended school in Hooker before graduating from Guymon High School with the class of 1981. Vickie worked for TG&Y in Guymon, Okla. during her school days. She lived in the Adams and Hooker area.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hooker.

Survivors include one son, William Mac Duncan, Hooker; one daughter, MacKenzi Shea Duncan, Hooker; her parents; one brother, Ace Yochum, Guymon, Okla.; three sisters, Dixie Purcell, Guymon, Okla., Cindy K. Purcell, Hooker, Okla. and Michelle Brewer, Borger, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Hooker with the Reverend Rick Trobaugh presiding.

Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery in Hooker directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Okla.

Memorials are suggested to the Vickie Duncan Memorial Scholarship Fund set up for the education of Vickie's children or to the Avon Breast Cancer Walk Foundation and may be left at the Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.

VIVIAN DYSINGER

HOOKER, Okla. -- Vivian Dysinger, West Pueblo, Colo. formerly of Hooker died at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hooker with the Reverend Rick Trobaugh presiding.

Burial will be at Hooker Cemetery in Hooker directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker.

VELMA TRUITT

ELKHART, Okla. -- Velma Truitt, 76, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.

She was born Nov. 17, 1927, to Joseph "Joe" and Minnie Flossie Miner Smoot in Laverne, Okla.

She married Wendell Ferguson May 27, 1946, in Liberal.

She then married Dr. Theo G. Truitt Dec. 31, 1975, in Beaver, Okla. He died May 25, 2003.

She was a longtime resident of Elkhart and a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Eric Ferguson, Balko, Okla.; two daughters, Anesia Shores, Goodwell, Okla. and O'Leen Bennett, Carlsbad, N.M.; two step-sons, Kris Truitt, Cleburne, Texas and Mark Truitt, Tulsa, Okla.; two step-daughters, Suzanne Cole, Alvarado, Texas, and Corol Grider, Guymon, Okla.; twin sister, Thelma Shephard, Woodward, Okla. and Lahoma Freeman, San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 16 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart with the Reverend Jim Cunningham presiding.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Laverne, Okla.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Elkhart Senior Center, Eva Community Center or to the charity of the donor's choice, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.

MILDRED MARTENS

TURPIN, Okla. -- Mildred Martens, 86, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Jan. 17, 1918, to Will and Vida Jane Rerrick Harr in Tyrone, Okla.

She married Wallace J. Martens July 6, 1938, in Guymon, Okla. He survives.

She lived in Enid, Okla. She moved to Cheyenne Valley, Okla. in 1939 and then to the Piper place near Fairview, Okla. in 1941. In May 1945, she and her husband moved to the Ranch in Turpin where she resided until her death. She worked for S&S Irrigation in Turpin for 12 years.

She was a member of the Adams Baptist Church and was a charter member in Tyrone. She taught Sunday School, along with GA's for many years. She took special interest in the mission's activities in the church.

Other survivors include three daughters, Jolene Love and husband, George "Bud", Satanta, Karen Bergen and husband, Verlyn, Hartsburg, Mo. and Betty Hollman and husband, Terryl, Turpin; one sister, Jane and husband, Lee Atherton, Denver, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Stella Harr, Boulder, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Marvin Love, John Love, Michael Love, Vanda Young, Jeremy Bergan, Jason Abel, Nathan Abel, Jenna Herman and Dana Hollman; 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Turpin Baptist Church in Turpin with the Reverends Jimmy Reed and James Colwell presiding.

Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Okla. in charge of arrangements.

BRUNA RODRIGUEZ DE RIOS

BUFFALO, Okla. -- Bruna Rodriguez de Rios, 58, died Saturday, February 21, 2004, at her residence in Buffalo, Okla.

She was born Oct. 6, 1945, to Leopoldo Rodriguez and Eulalia Rios Rodriguez in Mexico.

She married Salvador Rios, Feb. 19, 1962, in Mexico. He survives.

She moved to the United States in 1999. She was a resident of Buffalo, Okla. for the past five years.

Other survivors included, three sons, Valentin Rios, Salvador Rios, and Alejandro Rios; four daughters, Elizabeth Rios, Miriam Rios, Maria Yeni Rios, Alexandra Rios; 17 grandchildren; three brothers, Rutilo Rodriguez, Jose M. Rodriguez, Paulo Rodriguez;four sisters, Irma Rodriguez, Magdalena Rodriguez, Manuela Rodrigues, and Julia Rodriguez and many other relatives and friends.

Rosary will be at 8 p.m. today at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Buffalo, Okla.

Funeral Mass will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Fort Hewes.

Burial will be at High Point Cemetery in Buffalo, Okla.

PAULETTE (MAUPIN) KEETER

GUYMON, Okla. -- Paulette (Maupin) Keeter, 56, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at her home in Guymon.

She was born Jan. 31, 1948, to Robert "Bob" and Jean (Dowdy) Maupin in Liberal.

She gradated from Guymon High School in 1966. She then attended Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Okla. for one year and Wichita State University in Wichita. She worked for Hitch Feeders for 20 years and had worked for Seaboard Farms for the past two years. She was a lifelong Guymon resident.

Survivors include one daughter, Shelley and her husband, Graham Parker, Tulsa, Okla.; her mother; one sister, Jeanann Johnson, Denver, Colo.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal with the Reverend Harold Bollinger presiding.

Memorials are suggested to the Guymon Animal Shelter in care of Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.

MYRLE E. WRIGHT

TYRONE, Okla. -- Myrle "Pete" Wright, 75, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Trinity Manor in Dodge City.

He was born March 20, 1928, to William and Lela Mae Engel Wright in Liberal.

He married Arlene Smid Aug. 16, 1951, in Liberal. She survives.

He had been a lifetime Southwest Kansas area resident. He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for 20 years, retiring in 1989.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class.

He was a member of the Christian Life Center in Liberal.

Other survivors include two sons, Robert Wright and Pete Wright, both of Tyrone; one daughter, Barbara Geissler, Tyrone; one brother, James E. Wright, Georgetown, Texas; one sister, Leta Locke, Minneloa; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Ron W. Wright.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christian Life Center in Liberal with the Pastor Ken Willard presiding.

There will be no public visitation, and inturnment will be at a later date.

Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel in Dodge City is in charge of arrangements.
