ROBERT W. SHARP

BEAVER, Okla. ­-- Robert William Sharp, 70, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Mercy Hospital.

He was born May 17, 1934, to William Thomas and Nellie Kathal (Phelps) Sharp in Alva, Okla.

He married Merlene Palmer on Aug. 20, 1954, in Spearman, Texas. She survives.

He graduated from high school.

He was a supervisor with the Department of Tourism.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years.

Other survivors include his mother; two sons, Roger Sharp, Oklahoma City, and Patrick Sharp, Beaver, Okla.; one daughter, Roberta Hein, Alva, Okla.; seven grandchildren; one brother, Dennis sharp, Beaver, Okla.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday at Beaver First Christian Church with Bill Moore presiding.

Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Presbyterian Church, P.O. 38, Beaver, OK, 73932.

LETA R. POTTROFF

ELK CITY, Okla. --­ Leta Ruth Pottroff, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Elk City Nursing Center in Elk City, Okla.

She was born Jan. 4, 1924, to Lloyd and Hazel (Stultz) VanMetre in Sublette.

She married Gerald Pottroff April 2, 1944, in Sublette. He died March 18, 1983.

She was a 1943 graduate of Sublette High School and then continued her education at Kansas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949.

She worked as lab technician for many years at Southwest Medical Center.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Liberal.

She was a former member of the Liberal branch of American Association of University Women.

She was also in an investment club, Bridge club and enjoyed bowling and dancing.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Pottroff, Hays, and Dallas Pottroff, Hamilton, Mont.; five daughters, Sharon Schimer, Phoenix, Marlene Harber and husband Tom, Blue Springs, Mo., Rhonda Wade and husband Maurice, Elk City, Okla., Jolene Brown and husband Alan, Liberal, Debbie McSpadden and husband Galen, Liberal; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Kolsky, San Diego.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister, Verna Mae VanMetre.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Keith Bryant presiding.

Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.

PEGGY D. HOFFMAN

OKLAHOMA CITY --­ Peggy D. Hoffman, 66, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Midwest Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Okla.

She was born Sept. 3, 1937, to John and Eva L. (Bates) Busick.

She married Everett E. "Gene" Hoffman Nov. 3, 1956, in Emporia. He died Sept. 24, 1988.

She was a homemaker and a former member of First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal.

She was also an active member of the Late Great Chevy Car Club of Oklahoma City.

Survivors include one son, Eric Hoffman, Jonesboro, Ark., and companion, Chuck Cook, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Nickolas and Lauren Hoffman; one brother, Johnny Busick, Universal City, Texas; and six sisters, Lorine Powell, Great Bend, Thelma Hafford, El Cajon, Calif., Zelma Cardemues, San Diego, Bonnie Lemorex, Emporia, Delores Swenson, Tucson, Ariz., and Ruth Cunningham, Mobile, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Pauline Grimes.

There will be private family services.

Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

The casket will remain closed.

JOHN V. GITGOOD

TYRONE, Okla. ­-- John Victor Gitgood, 70, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at his home in Tyrone, Okla., following an extended illness.

He was born July 31, 1934, to Leon Ruby Gitgood in Radium.

He married Lois A Winsor Aug. 3, 1960, in Guymon, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Spring City, Tenn., High School in 1953.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba.

He worked in the oilfield in Great Bend.

He also leased trucks to Calie Asphalt and owned and operated Gitgood Trailer Park and opened Gitgood Quality Auto at the same location in 1991. He was a tool pusher for Wakefield Drilling and retired in 1988. He was involved in farming and ranching in the local area.

Other survivors include two daughters, Stephanie L. Van Zandt, Oklahoma City and Billie Gail Frazier and husband Steve; two grandchildren, John and Daniel Frazier, Liberal; two brothers, Joe Gitgood and wife Della, Guthrie, Okla., and Kent Gitgood, Selmer, Tenn.; three sisters, Wanda Shaver, Memphis, Tenn., Jackie Houston and husband Kenneth "Pete", N. Fort Myers, Fla., and Dorothy Foos and husband Leroy, Great Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bernie Gitgood, and one sister, Janice Fay Gitgood.

The Rev. David Bagwell conducted graveside services at the Liberal Cemetery.

A tribute will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at Miller Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Medical Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030-4009 directly or in care of Miller Mortuary.

RUBY R. STEWART

BEAVER, Okla. ­-- Ruby Ruth Stewart, 91, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Beaver, Okla.

She was born Oct. 19, 1912, to Guy Reichart and Hope (Hartzell) Reichart in Blaine County, Okla.

She married Jack Barnes Stewart Oct. 8, 1930, in Kingfisher, Okla. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Stewart and Phillip Stewart, both of Fort Supply, Okla.; three daughters, Celia Verhelst, Forgan, Okla., Darlene Lansden, Beaver, Okla., and Teresa Perkins, Liberal; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester Reichert and Wilbur Reichert, both of Canton, Okla.; two sisters, Mayolo Phillips, Canton, Okla., and Viola Denny, Watonga, Okla.; and many relatives and friends.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today in the Forgan Cemetery with Wayne Moore presiding.

Burial was in the Forgan Cemetery.

EVERETT B. COWAN

BALKO, Okla. --­ Everett Bruce Cowan, 89, died Aug. 27, 2004, in Beaver, Okla.

He was born Sept. 4, 1914, to Lloyd John Cowan and Ola Mae (Claybrook) Cowan in Beaver County, Okla.

He married Mildred Mitchell Dec. 20, 1940, in Hooker, Okla. She survives.

He was a farmer and rancher.

Other survivors include five sons, DeWayne Cowan, Stevie Cowan, Billy Cowan and Dannie Cowan, all of Balko, Okla., and Carl Cowan, Perryton, Texas; one daughter, Jeannie Benson, Amarillo, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Beryl Cowan, Bolivar, Mo.; and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Balko Mennonite Church with Rocky Anderson presiding and Pastor James Epps assisting.

Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery.

PAULINE M. LOVE

TYRONE, Okla. -- Pauline M. Love, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center.

She was born June 8, 1929, to Alva C. and Clara E. White Broughton in Saddle Mountain, Okla.

She married Robert T. Love, Sr. Nov. 19, 1947, in Pawhuska, Okla. He died Oct. 8, 1999.

She graduated from high school in Seminole, Okla.

She and her family moved to Tyrone in 1961. She was a bookkeeper for Love Pumping for many years and volunteered working at the Salvation Army Store in Liberal and was a longtime Avon representative.

She was of the Christian faith.

She enjoyed auctions, sewing and her family.

She is survived by four sons, Charles Love and wife Ozina, Kansas City, Kan., Philip Love and wife Lilla May, Tyrone, Okla., John Love, Liberal and Robert Love, Jr. and wife Kristi, Guymon, Okla.; four daughters, Carolyn Gonzales and husband Edward, Derby, Kaye Christensen and husband Rodney, Hattiesburg, Miss., Roberta Bridenstine and husband Galen, Turpin, Okla. and Virginia Hinton and husband Jerry, Liberal; one sister, Elva Ruth Fitz and husband Norvie, Shattuck, Okla.; 28 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Tyrone Baptist Church with Charlie Sappington presiding.

Burial will be in Tyrone Cemetery.

Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

RITA M. WHITE

TYRONE, Okla. --­ Rita M. White, 68, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born July 2, 1936, to Mose and Stella Flores Guitterez in Las Animas, Colo.

She married Dean White May 14, 1960. He survives.

Her hobbies included bingo.

Other survivors include one daughter, Linda White and husband Matthew Menges, Scott City; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Guitterez, Eugene, Ore.; and three sisters, Ida Witt, Guymon, Okla., Grace Padilla, Lamar, Colo., and Stella Martinez, Merced, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Charlie White, one grandson, Jason Hickey, and one great-grandson, Christopher Swartz.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Miller Chapel with the Rev. Rick Trobaugh presiding.

Burial will be in the Tyrone Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miller Mortuary to sign the register. The casket will remain closed.
