Jo Ann Henry Bruner

Age 70, Lawton - Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday in the Memorial Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Willie J. Doyeto, Pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Bruner died Wednesday at her home.

Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born on May 10, 1936, North of Red Oak, Oklahoma to Roosevelt and Lula (Thompson) Henry. She married Richmond Bruner in Guthrie on September 5, 1956. She volunteered her time at several places in Lawton for many years. She was a member of the Choctaw Tribe and the Memorial Indian Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Jerry Bruner of Lawton; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise F. Bruner Ferranto and Rocco of Port Charlotte, Florida; a grandson, Tyler T. Bruner of Coweta, Oklahoma; and a brother, Cordell Henry of Clinton.

Her parents, a son, Riddell T. Bruner, a sister, Dorothy Matthews, and two brothers, Arthur “Bunny” Henry and Macarthur “Butch” Henry, preceded her in death.

Juanita “Pee-Wee” Campbell

Age 77, Lawton - Graveside service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Faxon Cemetery with Rev. Carl Rudek, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Chattanooga, officiating.

Mrs. Campbell died Sunday in a local hospital.

Burial will be under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born on June 11, 1929 in Deep Red, Tillman County, Oklahoma to Julian Dexter and Verna Doretha (Argo) Brown. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three children, Roger A. Campbell, Richard L. Campbell, and Lisa Stinson and her husband, Jerry, all of Lawton; two grandchildren, Chevonne Asenap and her husband, Rob, of Cache, and Christina Smith of Lawton; a great granddaughter, Katelyn Asenap of Cache; a nephew, Danny Plummer of California; two nieces, Mary McPhail of Florida and Cathy Campbell of Arizona; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Her parents, a son, Kevin, a brother, Forrest Brown, and a sister, Marie Plummer, preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1320 NW Homestead Drive, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505 or to Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, P.O. Box 2074, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502.

Franklin Edward Smith, Jr.

Age 84, Elgin - Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at the Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher Chapel with Pastor Franklin E. Smith, III, Abundant Life Church, Denham Springs, Louisiana officiating.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday at his home.

Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery in Apache.

He was born February 2, 1923 in Olustee to Franklin E. and Mahaley (Hensley) Smith. Mr. Smith served in the Army Air Corp. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 5263 in Lawton and was a 32 degree Mason.Mr. Smith was a retired pipe fitter.

Survivors include two sons, Franklin E. Smith, III and his wife Debra, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Tyrone Anthony Edward Smith, Las Vegas, Nevada, two daughters, Charlotte Guerrero, Baton Rouge and Elizabeth Kendall and her husband James, Apache, eleven grandchildren, Brandilyn Che Cahill, John Franklin Smith, Mary Burton, Troy Burton, Richard Schreiber, Sarah Schreiber, Sabrina Jacob, Savannah Swindall, Robert Brown, Michelle Blouin and Rick Guerrero and seven great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Hensley and a sister, Helen Turnbull.

Clara Ann Williams

Funeral for former Sterling resident Clara Ann Williams, 69, Mableton, Georgia will be 10:00 AM Monday at the Sterling United Methodist Church with Rev. Becky Baxter-Crowell, pastor officiating.

Mrs. Williams passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 succumbing courageously after a 7 year battle with breast cancer.

Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Fletcher (formerly Robbins Funeral Home).

She was born on January 24, 1938 in Sterling, OK to Loraice and Clarence Girdner. Ann married John Clayton Williams, a career Army officer, of Marietta, OH on October 1, 1961, and as a wife and mother, she made a home for her family both in the U.S. and in Germany, relocating the household more than 20 times within 27 years. She loved her family and was their stability during her husband’s absence on many tours of duty, even during his difficult deployment to Vietnam. As a Commander’s wife stationed in the European theater, she graciously entertained enlisted soldiers, NATO officials, American and German military officers and politicians, members of the U.S. Congress, and their families. She traveled extensively and knowledgably with family and friends throughout Europe. Intelligent, artistically gifted, and compassionate, she valued education, aesthetics, and ethics, and she instilled these in her children and grandchildren, too. She was philanthropic, generous, and energetic; she has been as docent at both Emory University’s Michael C. Carlos Museum and The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA, she has organized numerous fundraising events for community welfare programs, and she has donated privately to help others in need. She was an avid collector and successfully operated her own boutique business for several years.

Ann is survived by her loving family; husband, John; son, Scott and his companion “Hepi” Wachter; daughters, Shelley and husband Tim Odell, Staci and husband David Santos; mother, Loraice Girdner; brother, Richard Girdner and wife Martha; sisters, Rebecca and husband Richard Cumbie, Regina and husband Steve Pike; and granddaughters, Rebecca and Rachael Odell.

Leona Olin Tucker

Age 90, Lawton - Service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. William F. Watkins, associate pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.

Mrs. Tucker died Saturday, September 8, 2007.

Entombment will be in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

She was born April 7, 1917 to Clarence and Lena Freeman in West Frankfort, Illinois. Mrs. Tucker graduated from West Frankfort High School. Having graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois and accepted into the Missionary Field she chose to become a minister’s wife following her husband Harold Leeper Olin, and spreading God’s word. She wrote for the Southern Baptist WMU and School Zone Publishing Company. She wrote two columns for the Bosie City News, one on birds and the other updating the wide spread community of Kenton, OK news. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lawton and the Oklahoma Writers Association. She was a former secretary at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton. She later helped her second husband Truman Tucker with guided tours of dinosaur tracks, Indian drawings and historical areas in the panhandle of Oklahoma.

She is survived by two sons, David Lee Olin, Abilene, Texas, Timothy Olin, Norton, Kansas, four daughters, Patricia Johnson and her husband David, Isle of Palms, South Carolina, Sara Sue Toney, Kernersville, North Carolina, Pamela Baker and her husband Andrew, Wausau, Wisconsin and Martha Brady and her husband Parlan, Lawton, two sisters, Holly Raymer, Manchester, Missouri and Virginia Connell, Springdale, Arkansas, a brother, Orville Freeman and his wife Nancy, Howard Lake, Minnesota, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Clarence Freeman and two husbands, Harold Olin in 1981 and Truman Tucker in 2000.

Izell Hamilton
Age 87, Snyder - Services will be at 2:00 pm Monday at the Church of Christ in Snyder with Mike Hinton, Blanchard, OK and Ron Suiter, Minister of the Snyder Church of Christ officiating.

Mrs. Hamilton died Thursday in an Altus hospital.

Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder, under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Snyder.

She was born May 31, 1920 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Grover Henry and Lillie Mae (Overstreet) Cross. She married Alfred Lee Hamilton on November 19, 1938 in Sentinel, OK. He died November 23, 1999. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Alf Hamilton, Jr and his wife Beverly of Dallas, TX, Rilda Fern Perry and husband Don of Lubbock, TX, Wyneese Barker and her husband Billy of Snyder, Larry Dean Hamilton and wife Joanne of Mustang, Debbie Sue Miller and husband Max of Headrick, a brother Sam Cross of Amarillo, TX, Sister Patsy Dodd and her husband Dean of Las Vegas, NV, ten grandchildren, Kimberly Gayle Fralix, Scott Allen Hamilton, Tracy Perry, Paige Baldridge, Kelly Franklin, Kevin Barker, Kent Barker, Machell Gassett, Neil Hamilton, Jordan Miller, fifteen great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

David E. Modesitt

Age 60, Lawton - Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. David McCracken, pastor of New Life Assembly of God in Cache officiating.

Mr. Modesitt died Monday.

He was born January 10, 1947 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Alfred C. and Lila (Cole) Modesitt. He married Jo Ann Blevins on August 24, 1967 in Parsons, Kansas. He came to Lawton from Kansas in 1968 to work for Southwestern Stationery and Bank Supply. In 1995 he and four others purchased Color Graphics Print Shop where he worked until the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, a son, Shannon Modesitt, McKinney, Texas, his father, Alfred C. Modesitt, Parsons, Kansas, a brother, Larry Modesitt, Parsons, four grandchildren, Blake, Lindsey, Bailey and Riley Modesitt, all of McKinney and a brother-law, Ronald J. Blevins and his wife Mary, Cedar Hill, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his mother and his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Curtis Blevins.

H. C. Lane
Age 80, Lawton, Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Elder James D. Wagner, Sr., Retired Baptist Minister, Sheridan, Arkansas, officiating.

Mr. Lane died Wednesday in Lawton.

Burial will be in the Veteran’s Field of Honor at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born on October 20, 1923 in Mulberry, Arkansas to Richard and Katie (Rose) Lane. Mr. Lane served in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Lane married Betsy S. Wagner in Mulberry, Arkansas on April 14, 1948. He worked for civil service and retired in December of 1979. From 1980 to 1989, H. C. worked for the Lawton Public Schools as a custodian. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Mount Scott Masonic Lodge #540 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Brumbeloe and Joel of Lagrange, Georgia and Shelia Ann Sessoms and Glenn of Lawton; four grandchildren, Amy Evans and her husband, Micheal, of Lagrange, Georgia; Bradley Lane Brumbeloe of Savannah, Georgia; Greg Sessoms and his wife, Leah, of Lawton; and Jason Sessoms and his wife, Tami, of Alameda, California; two great grandchildren, Tyler Evans and Quintin Sessoms; two sisters, Mary House and her husband, Paul, of Alma, Arkansas and Dorothy Finney of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

His parents and a half-brother, Clifton Shephard, preceded him in death.

Frances Louise Kirby

Age 68, Lawton, Services will be 10:00 am Friday in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Gary W. Cook, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Kirby died Tuesday in Lawton.

Burial will be in Letitia Cemetery, east of Lawton, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

She was born March 19, 1936 in the Bethel Community, east of Lawton, to David William and Lucille Edwards Plemmons. She graduated high school at Empire School and was the valedictorian of her senior class. She married James Charles Kirby on May 31, 1953 east of Lawton. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2001.

She was retired from Civil Service at Fort Sill after more than 37 years. At the time of her retirement she was a budget analyst with the Fort Sill Artillery Board. She was a charter member of Sunset Baptist Church, which later became Olivet Baptist Church and at the time of her death was a member of the First Baptist Church where she had been active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was also a member of Toastmistress and the Artillery Board Wives Club.

Survivors include three sons: Timothy Mark Kirby, Fort Worth, Texas, Derek Keith Kirby and his wife Cecy Fourton Kirby, Indiahoma, and Kevin Todd Kirby and his fiancée, Julie Walker, Tulsa; a brother, Buford Plemmons, Fort Collins, Colorado; a sister, Maurita Wood, Shawnee, Oklahoma; two step grandchildren, Alissa Reeves and Daniel Reeves and fiancée, Tina; four step great grandchildren, Christian, Caleb, Trinity and Sydney.
