Barber

Gail Everett Barber, 68, of Hollis, formerly of Enid, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2006, in Lawton,
Oklahoma.
Gail was born February 25, 1938, to Orville and Wilma (King) Barber in Satanta, Kansas. He married Sara Ann
Courtney July 21, 1957, in Independence, Kansas, and they were blessed with the birth of twin boys, Greg and
Tim, September 8, 1958.
Gail worked for farm cooperatives for 34 years before retiring. He was a member of the New Hope United
Methodist Church in Enid, Oklahoma. He had recently attended the First United Methodist Churches of Hollis and
Gould where his wife is pastor.
Gail enjoyed making woodworking for others, especially the rocking horses for the grandchildren and other
children.
Survivors are his wife Sara of the home in Hollis, Oklahoma; two sons, Greg of Enid, and Tim of Perry; six
grandchildren, Scott of Perry, Michelle and her husband Curt Garrett of Alliance, Nebraska, Sarah, Courtney,
Joshua, and Rebekah of Alliance, Nebraska; five great-grandchildren, Kayla and Scott Barber, Jr. of Perry,
Aubrey and Austin Garrett of Alliance, Nebraska, and Mason Lunberry of Alliance, Nebraska; one brother Norville
and his wife Lois Barber of Caldwell, Idaho, and one sister Willa and her husband Amos Cott of Garden City,
Kansas; two sisters-in law, Ona Barber of Johnson, Kansas, and Betty Barber of Johnson, Kansas. Gail is also
survived by a son adopted by heart, Richard Knight and his wife Heidi and their children Arick, Karissa, Andrew,
Kailene, and Kaitlyn of Enid, Oklahoma. There were also many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Edward and Kenneth Barber, both of Johnson, Kansas.

Funeral Services for Gail Barber will be 10:00 am Thursday, November 30, at the New Hope United Methodist
Church in Enid under the direction of Perry Funeral Home, Perry, Oklahoma.

Memorial Services will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, December 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Hollis with
Reverend Chuck Nordeen officiating. Services are under the direction of our funeral home in Hollis, Ok-
Patterson Greer Funeral Home.

BARTLETT

Catherine Bartlett, age 75 of Lawton, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2006 at Comanche County Memorial
Hospital in Lawton.

Graveside services were held on Saturday morning, May 20, 2006 at the Altus City Cemetery with Elder De W.
Jones officiating.

Preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters, Mrs. Bartlett is survived by a niece, Sherry
Dinkins of Sacramento, California; a great niece, Tekeena Young of San Diego, California and a great nephew
Lawrence Dinkins of Sacramento, California.

Johnathon Peter Baartman

Johnathon Peter Baartman, age 26, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2006 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Johnathon was born and raised in Altus, he attended the Altus Public Schools and graduated from Altus High
School in 1999. After high school he attended the S.W. Technology Center in the administrative assistant
course and the Wrights School of Business in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Johnathon’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his son Cam’ron, his family and friends. He was of the
Protestant faith.
He is survived by his son Cam’ron of Cache, Oklahoma; father Lyle Baartman of Altus, grandparents Pete and
Shirley Baartman of Altus. Johnathon is also survived by one sister Jessika Shay and husband John of
Stillwater, Oklahoma, Jeremiah Baartman and wife Angel of Altus, Oklahoma; and a host of aunts, uncles,
cousins, and many friends.
Private family service will be held at a later date.
The family of Johnathon Baartman will greet friends Tuesday, November 7, 2006 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Lowell-
Tims Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the directions of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Batchelor

G.H. “Bud” Batchelor, 90, of Headrick, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2007, at the Plantation Village
Care Center in Altus.
Bud was born March 24, 1916, in Avery, Texas, to John Floyd and Tiney (Burns) Batchelor. When he was a
small child, his family moved to Idabel, Oklahoma, where he attended school. He married Tincie Lewis June 29,
1940, in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. They moved to Altus in 1958.
Bud served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and received a Bronze Star in the
Philippine Liberation and a victory ribbon for the Asiatic-Pacific. He was in seven of the major sea battles of
World War II and received many other medals and ribbons. He was shipwrecked on a coral reef just offshore of
Hanso, Japan. Serving his country ran in family, since both his grandfathers served in the Civil War, one on the
Union side and one on the Confederate side.
He loved to fish, squirrel hunt, and spend time with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Daddy Bud.” Bud
farmed in the Jackson County area for many years before his retirement.
Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Tincie on May 2, 1998, a brother, Bill Batchelor, two sisters, Hattie
Cochran and Estelle Davidson, and a brother and sister who died in infancy, he is survived by four children,
Tommy Batchelor of McAlester, Oklahoma, Billie Goode and husband Rex of Blair, Oklahoma, Becky Parsons
and husband Coy of Headrick, Oklahoma, and Peggy Hamlett and husband Derald of Wylie, Texas; one sister,
Hazel Gammons of Idabel, Oklahoma; fifteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great
grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services for Bud Batchelor will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the Navajoe
Cemetery.

Paul Joseph Beaulieu

Paul Joseph Beaulieu, 61, of Altus, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006, at his home.
P.J. was born on June 1, 1945, in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to Gerard Joseph and Bertha (Tangue) Beaulieu.
At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he went on to become an aircraft hydraulic
system mechanic. He served three tours in Vietnam, where he earned several awards to include an Air Force
Commendation Medal, an Air Force Achievement Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, and a Good Conduct Medal
with six Oak Leaf Clusters. He reenlisted numerous times and served a total of 22 years for his country. While in
the service, P.J. earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force
and his Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Maryland. After the Military, P.J. worked as a Civil
Service employee for several bowling centers throughout Europe as manager. Some of the places included San
Veto, Italy, Incirlik, Turkey, Lajes Field Azores Portugal, Altus AFB, and R A F Bentwaters, where he met his wife
Linda (Conway) Beaulieu. They married September 23, 1993, in Incirlik, Turkey.
Preceded in death by his parents, P.J. is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home in Altus; six sons, P.J.
Beaulieu, Jr., Kenneth Beaulieu, Kevin Beaulieu, Colin Turnbull, Robert Turnbull, and Richard Turnbull. He is
also survived by ten grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Andrew, Kenny, Josh, Angelica, Diego, Dartanyan, Malachi,
and Jordan.

A Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Wednesday, November 15, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus.

The Funeral Mass for P.J. Beaulieu will be 11:00 am, Thursday, November 16, at the Prince of Peace Catholic
Church with Reverend Joseph H. Arledge officiating. Arrangements are with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

BELL

Mildred Marie Bell, age 93 of Friendship, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 2, 2006 at her home.

Mrs. Bell was born on June 22, 1913, in Humphrey to Edward Orb and Margaret Levisa (Garrett) Morris. She
attended Humphrey School and later married the love of her life, Robert Glen Bell, on June 27, 1931, in Greer
County. She met Glen on the Friendship School playground where her sister, Mabel, taught. Mrs. Bell was
employed at Friendship and Navajo Schools for a time, and later worked at Jackson County Memorial Hospital,
Altus High School and retired as the cafeteria manager at Southeast Junior High on March 1, 1980. During
retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see her family, knitting, crocheting and quilting, but her most cherished times
were the ones spent with her family whom she dearly loved. Marie was also honored with Who’s Who Among
Students in American Junior College for nearly 25 years of Water Aerobics at Western Oklahoma State College.
During her entire life, Marie never lived where she could not see her beloved Navajo Mountains. She was also
very active in the Friendship Baptist Church where she was the longest attending, active member.

Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen in 1970, one daughter, Sharon Pool, in 1997,
a granddaughter Cynthia Nathe in 1972 and two great granddaughters, Heather Bryce and Bree Giles in 2006,
four sisters, Mabel Minor, Faye Bower, Martha Lewis (Jayne) Smith and Lula May Morris and two brothers, James
Raymond Morris and William Floyd Morris.

Survivors include her seven children, Martha Ann Vanderslice and husband Carson of Marlow, Glenna Nathe of
Lawton, Janet Billington and husband Grady of Madera, California, Reba Conrad and husband Dale of McKinney,
Texas, Judy Gramling of Denton, Texas, Karen Bryce and husband David of Altus and Sonny Bell and wife Elaine
of Burkburnett, Texas; twenty grand children; forty-two great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mildred Marie Bell will be at 2 p.m, Monday, November 6, 2006 at the Friendship Baptist
Church with Rev. Madison Clinton officiating. Internment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction
of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

The family of Mildred Marie Bell will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Sunday, November 5, 2006
from 4 until 5:30 p.m.

BEVERS

J T Bevers, age 92, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2006 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in
Oklahoma City. J T was born March 4, 1914 in Paris, Texas to Sam and Minnie Ola (Gaines) Bevers. He came
with his family, as a young child, crossing the Red River by wagon into Oklahoma. He married Estine Stricklen on
December 14, 1935, in Mangum and they spent sixty-six wonderful years together before her death on May 1,
2001.

He was an avid farmer and fisherman throughout his life. Encouraging new growth in the farming community, he
was one of the first to draw water out of Lake Altus to irrigate his cotton crops. He worked as a night auditor at
Quartz Mountain Lodge for twenty three-years and served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Blair for
over thirty years, from 1939 until 1969 and upon retirement moved to Indian Lake, Texas. After Estine’s death, he
moved to Minnesota for four years and more recently lived in Oklahoma City.

His wife, parents and two brothers, Fred Bevers and Jess Bevers and one sister, Bell Rose Bevers Grider
preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons; John of Chula Vista, California, Eugene of Brownsville,
Texas and Charles of Brownsville, Texas; a daughter, Lazette Bevers Chang-Yit of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his
brother, Leon Bevers of Altus, Oklahoma; two sisters, Nora Dell Machin and Betty Jo Barnett both of Altus,
Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Eunice Marple of Lawton, Oklahoma and a brother-in-law, John Stricklen of Overland
Park, Kansas; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered as a gentle man who was a domino player extraordinaire, fisherman, great storyteller and
most of all a loving father with a terrific sense of humor.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Blair, Oklahoma with
Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Internment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home of Altus.

Verna Philbrick Blackwell

Verna Philbrick Blackwell was born in Biddeford, Maine, on September 13, 1919, to Charles and Bertha (Kimball)
Philbrick. She graduated from Thornton Academy in Biddeford, Maine, in 1938. She also attended Maine School
of Commerce from 1938 to 1939.
She married Lt. James LeMaster Blackwell of Spartanburg, South Carolina, in Saco, Maine, September 10, 1942.
His career in the United States Army and Civil Service took them to many locations. The family moved to Altus,
Oklahoma, in 1969.
She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church. She participated in The Altus-Mangum Cancer
Support Group and was a past volunteer with the Reach For Recovery program for breast cancer patients, the
ACMI House, and Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James LeMaster Blackwell in 1991, daughter Rebekah Rachel
Blackwell in 1951, a beloved son Daniel Kimball Blackwell in 2004, and a brother Carroll Philbrick.
She is survived by her children James M. Blackwell and wife Sarah Snell of Houston, Texas; David Charles
Blackwell of Austin, Texas; Thomas Jonathon Blackwell and wife Becky of Austin, Texas; Mark Edward Blackwell
and wife Barbara of Wichita Falls, Texas; Deborah Elaine Blackwell Roe of Roswell, New Mexico; Jeffrey Scott
Blackwell,M.D. and wife Denise of Everett, Washington and Bonnie Elizabeth Blackwell McAskill and husband
John of Altus and two brothers Jesse Philbrick and wife Dorothy of Saco, Maine; and Richard Philbrick and wife
Bess of Athens, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren John Blake McAskill and Betsy Lane McAskill of
Altus; Abigail Rae Blackwell and Katherine Alice Blackwell of Everett, Washington; Elisabeth Hope Roe, James
Philbrick Roe and Anne Scout Roe of Roswell, New Mexico; Laura Lee Frost and daughters Katelyn Arlene
Fabiszewski and Olivia Joy Fabiszewski of Austin, Texas; Daniel Paul Frost and Samuel Andrew Frost of
Austin,Texas; Dayna Blackwell-Howes and daughter Madeline Claire Howes of Austin, Texas.
Funeral service will be Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev.
George Lupton officiating. Interment will be at the Ft. Sill Post Cemetery at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Arrangements are
under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Southwest Oklahoma Cancer Centers through the Jackson County Memorial
Hospital Foundation or the Grace United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Verna Philbrick
Blackwell.

BONDS

Zena Leota Bonds, age 88 of Altus, passed away early Thursday morning, September 14, 2006 at Jackson County
Memorial Hospital.

Leota was born on November 18, 1917, to James Alexander and Hattie Loucinda (Stephens) Henderson at
Pleasant Point near Friendship, Oklahoma. Graduating from Pleasant Point High School, she married Howard
Bonds in Hollis on September 14, 1937, and they spent fifty-eight wonderful years together before his death in
1996. Leota will be remembered by many for over twenty years of cooking for the Altus Public Schools at Wilson
and Rivers Elementary Schools. Leota and Howard ran the Altus Bus Station for many years where she also
cooked in the Bus Station Café. A member of the Duke First United Methodist Church, Leota loved her God and
enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music. Fishing, camping and spending time with her family whom she
dearly loved were her favorite pastimes. Known as the Atlanta Braves number one fan, Leota could always take in
a game of baseball.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard, a son, Doug in 1990, three brothers, Claude Henderson,
Orville Henderson and Arlie Henderson, she is survived by two children, Shirley Miller and husband Jerry of Altus
and Harold Bonds and wife Janie of Elk City; four grandchildren, Clift Miller and wife Teresa of Altus, Dawn Rene
Rinehart and husband Jim of Marina, California, Steve Bonds and wife Misty of Elk City and Neil Bonds and wife
Heather of Blair; three great grandchildren, Natalie Camp, Kurt Rinehart and Ashleigh Bonds; one great-great
grandson, Noah Camp; one sister-in-law, Pauline Eccles of Heber Springs, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, Felix
Bonds of Holladay, Utah along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Zena Leota Bonds will be Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home Chapel with Jerry Don Henry officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
