GREGG

Thurman A. Gregg passed from this life on Saturday May 30, 2009, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was surrounded by
family and friends, his four sons were there at his bedside at his passing. Thurman was 92 years old. He was preceded
in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Josephine (Jo) Gregg. He is survived by his four sons, Danny Thurman
Gregg and wife Lisa of Nashville Tennessee, William Paul Gregg and wife Leslie of Nashville Tennessee, Joey Shane
Gregg and wife Debbie of Wichita Falls, Texas, Nicky Darin Gregg and wife Kimberly of Lebanon, Tennessee; eleven
grandchildren, Cassidy, Cody, Carson, Colt, Mallory, McKenzie, Shane, Lee Dustin, Skylar, Duncan, Maggie Jo and
two great grandchildren, Tristan and Emma; one brother Weber Gregg of Cordell, Oklahoma.

Thurman was born in Willow Point, Texas on April 6, 1917. His family moved to Cordell, Oklahoma where he spent
most of his growing up years. Thurman was an army veteran and served his country during World War II. After the
war Thurman married Elizabeth Josephine (Jo) Duncan on February 8, 1947. They made their home in Altus,
Oklahoma where they raised their four sons. Thurman made his living as a farmer/rancher and later in life became the
owner/operator of Gregg’s Car Wash in downtown Altus. Thurman was a long time member of the Elm and Hudson
Church of Christ. He was a member of Martha Farmer’s Co-op. Thurman also served as a member of the Altus
Public School Board of Education.

Thurman lived his life in service to his country and the community in which he lived. He was a faithful husband and a
hero to his sons. Thurman loved his God and Lord Jesus Christ and lived a life of integrity and character. Thurman will
be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Graveside services for Thurman Gregg will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the Altus City Cemetery under
the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from
4 until 6 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Hal L. Grider

Hal L. Grider, age 76 longtime Altus attorney passed away Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Norman Regional
Hospital. He was born December 2,1929 to Hallie and Hugh Grider.
In 1945 Hal entered the United States Army, receiving his discharge in 1947. At that time he returned to high
school and graduated in 1947. He entered the United States Navy in 1948 and was stationed aboard the USS
Quincy. He was honorably discharged December 6, 1956.
On December 30, 1951 at the First Christian Church in Tucumcari, New Mexico Hal and Carolyn June
McKenzie were united in marriage. She preceded him in death.
Hal attended West Texas State University in 1959 and graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law
School in 1962. He practiced in private law practice in Altus from 1962 until 2000. During that time, Hal served
the citizens of Southwest Oklahoma as an assistant district attorney for twenty years while continuing his private
practice.
Hal is survived by his son Victor Grider of Norman, Oklahoma; one brother John Grider of Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, two sisters Rita Montrose of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carolyn Russell of Dracut, Massachusetts; a
brother-in-law Miles Montrose of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was prececed in death by his parents Hugh and Hallie Grider, wife Carolyn Grider; brothers Quintin
Grider, Cody Grider, Hugh Grider, Jr. and a sister Gwen Beavers.
Funeral Services for Hal L. Grider are scheduled for Tuesday, December 6,2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery
under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Pauline Grider

Pauline Wilson Grider passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 2, 2004. Services have been scheduled
for 10:00 am, Friday, August 6, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Bud Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in the
Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Pauline was born December 24, 1923, at Hess in Jackson County, Oklahoma to Ambrose Easley Wilson and
Ada Mae (Muse) Wilson. She attended Porter High School and graduated from Southside High after the
consolidation. On January 23, 1945, Pauline and Herbert Kenneth Grider were united in marriage at Guymon,
Oklahoma. They had 59 wonderful years together, raising three children.
Pauline helped the war effort during World War II by rivoting on C-47’s and inspecting gas masks in
California. She also taught school near Ardmore, Oklahoma on a war emergency certificate. She served as Director
of the Altus Senior Citizens’ Center for several years where she enjoyed teaching ceramics before retiring.
Mrs. Grider is preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose Easley Wilson and Ada Mae Muse Wilson; and by
two brothers, Cecil Rae Wilson and Frankie Bob Wilson.
She is lovingly survived by her husband of 59 years, Herbert Kenneth Grider, Sr. of the home; three children,
Herbert Kenneth Grider, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Black Canyon, Arizona, Steven Lynn Grider of San Diego,
California, and Robbie Von McCarty and husband, Steve of Altus, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kenna Joy Grider,
Kenneth Glenn Grider, and Toni Melissa Grider of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Becky Lynn Perry of Hobart,
Oklahoma, Paula New and husband, Tom of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Steven Aaron Grider of Black Canyon,
Arizona; two brothers, Paul Wilson and wife Bobbie Sue of Altus, Oklahoma and Gary Wilson of Mustang,
Oklahoma; one sister, Linda Heuckendorf and husband, Richard of Choctaw; sixteen great-grandchildren and a host
of nieces and nephews.

Grimes

Ruby Olivia Grimes, age 88, died peacefully August 9, 2007 in Yukon Oklahoma. She was born March 3, 1919 in
Olustee, Oklahoma to Herbert and Lola Hughes. Ruby was raised in the Olustee and Martha communities.
Ruby married Coy Grimes on June 30, 1940. Coy was a cotton farmer and they spent many years on a farm west of
Altus.
Preceded in death by her husband, Coy on January 23, 1998; her parents; sister Opal Evans; and brother Henry
Hughes; she is survived by her brother Denzil Hughes and wife Jackie of Arp, Texas; sons Terry Grimes of Faison North
Carolina; Phil Grimes and wife Leta of Mustang, Oklahoma; two granddaughters; Kristy Yeargain and son McKenzie of
Mustang, Oklahoma; Stefanie Woodard and husband Ryan, daughter Kaelyn and twins Cole and Callie of Yukon,
Oklahoma.

Funeral services for Ruby Grimes will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2007, at First United Methodist Church of
Altus with Rev. David Player officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

Rinda Aileen Groves

Rinda Aileen Groves, passed away Wednesday morning, July 28, 2004, at her daughter’s home in San Antonio,
Texas, where she lived.
She was born September 9, 1909 in Deport, Texas. She moved to Altus where she met the love of her life, Harley.
They were married December 15, 1929. She was employed at Altus Air Force Base working at the 97th Service
Squadron as a Custodial Foreman of Housekeeping Services at the Red River Inn lodging facility. She retired at the
age of 85 after 27 years of service. She was well known as “Feisty” to those who worked with her because of her
working spirit.
Her hobbies were Horses, bingo, Football (The Dallas Cowboys) and time with her family and friends. She also
loved to work. She always said people should work hard, stay with their jobs and do their jobs well.” She also said
to retire while you can enjoy yourself.
She was a life time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she loved people, always had a smile on her face and a
willingness to help others, she will be greatly missed
She is preceded in death by her husband Harley, one grandson David Groves, parents, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by; 5 son David Groves of Houston, Texas, Bob Groves of Altus, Oklahoma, Donnie Groves of
Shawnee, Oklahoma, Lonnie Groves of Purcell, Oklahoma, 2 Daughter Nancy Thomas of Altus, Oklahoma,
Johnnie Groves of San Antonio, Texas and Polly Karen Jones of San Antonio, Texas, one sister Margaret Duncan of
Las Vegas, Nevada and by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren nieces and nephews.

Service for Rinda Aileen Groves will be held Sunday, Aug 1, 2004, at 2:00pm at the Emmanuel Baptist Church
with Rev. Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 31, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:30pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Luther Kenneth Guffy

Luther Kenneth Guffy, age 87, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2007 at his home in Northgate Estates in the Baptist
Memorial Center, San Angelo, Tx. He was born March 27, 1920 in Byron, OK. to James Luther and Jessie Ruth
(Sluder) Guffy. He granduated from Byron High School. On December 22, 1941, Luther and Marie C. Clainborne
were united in marriage in Humphrey, OK.

Luther served in the United States Amry Air Force from May 1942 to November 1945, at Tundal Field, Florida as
an aerial gunnery instructor.

Upon his discharge from service, he continued his education and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the
Oklahoma Baptist University. He received a Masters Degree in School Administration from the University of
Oklahoma. Mr. Guffy taught school five years in Kansas and one year in Texas. He served 28 years as a school
administrator with the Ector County Independent School District in Odess, Texas.

He was a life member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, as well as a member of the local San Angelo
Retired Teachers Association and the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo and
faithfully served as a Baptist Deacon for fify years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Luther and Jessie Guffy; a brother, Martin Monroe Guffy; and by
three sisters, Mary Harriet Guffy, Lt. Col. Nellie E. Guffy, and Eloise Denninghoff.

Luther is lovingly survived by his wife, Marie C. Guffy of San Angelo, Tx; one daughter, Marjorie E. Bolt and
husband Richard R. of San Angelo, Tx; one brother, Wayne Guffy and wife, Lois of Byron, Ok.; 5 sisters, Zay Jimeson
of Udall, KS, Ruth Lewis and husband Harold of McCune, KS, Jennie Fischer and husband S.C. of Jet, Ok., Bernice
Joseph and husband Earl Joseph of Sylmar, Ca., and Grace Wessel and husband Darrell of Cherokee, Ok; one brother-
in-law, Dr. James Denninghoff of Columbis, Mo; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. M.V.
Summers and Rev. Don Seigler officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the directions of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date in San Angelo.

The family will be receiving guests at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm, Friday evening.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Guffy’s name to the San Angelo Heath Care or a charity of your choice. A special
thank you is extended from the family to the Baptist Memorial Center Hospice and the San Angelo Heath Care, and to
all our friends who have supported us during this trying time.

Newt A. Gullett

Newt A. Gullett, age 96, of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Jackson County
Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 24, 1908 in Porum, Oklahoma to James B. and Phoebe (Jones) Gullett.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. Newt owned and
operated Newt’s Food Store at Duke for forty-six years.
Newt married Marie B. McDaniel in 1927, at Gould, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1956. In 1957,
he married Alma Ree Vinson at Mangum, Oklahoma.
Newt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and a longtime member of the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife Alma Ree Gullett of Altus, Oklahoma, one son Jimmy Gullett and wife Norma of
Benton, Arkansas, one daughter Delphine Williamson of Purcell, Oklahoma. He is also survived by one sister Irene
Holsey of Altus, Oklahoma, one brother Earl Gullett of Dumas, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marie Gullett, one brother Harold Gullett, two sisters Ethel
Purdue and Bert Robinson.
Funeral Services for Newt A. Gullett are scheduled for Sunday, November 7, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lowell-
Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eugene Foreman officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Cemetery at
Duke, Oklahoma under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

ALMA REE GULLETT

Mrs. N.A. (Alma Ree) Gullett passed away on Friday, January 07, 2005 at the age of 95 years 6 months and 14
days.

Alma Ree Waddell Vinson Gullett was born on June 24, 1909 near Tompkinsville, Tennessee. Her widowed mother,
Nona B. Welch, brought Alma Ree Waddell, her sister Frankie Maude Waddell and half brother Robert Welch to
Oklahoma by train in 1923 to live at Reed, Willow, and later at Mangum.

Alma Ree became a Christian early in life and over the years had taught Sunday School as a teacher in the Baptist
faith. She was married to Artie Vinson at the Baptist Parsonage at Granite, Oklahoma on August 16, 1926. They
lived most of their lives together in the area of Winters, Texas and Runnels County. The Vinsons were very active in
the Wilmeth Baptist Church near Winters and at the time of Mr. Vinson’s death in 1955 they were teaching and
working as members of 7th Street Baptist Church of Ballinger, Texas. Alma Ree Vinson married Newt Gullett of
Duke, Oklahoma on March 23, 1957 at Ree’s mother’s home at 234 W. Taylor in Mangum, Oklahoma.

For many years Mrs. Gullett taught a woman’s Bible class in the First Baptist Church of Mangum and later she taught
the older women in the First Baptist Church of Altus. She and her husband Newt Gullett were active in Christian
service since their marriage in 1957.

The Gulletts owned and operated Newt’s Food Store in Duke, Oklahoma from 1957 until 1984. They were both
active in the community and in the First Baptist Church of Duke.

The Gulletts were very active in the Hospital Auxiliary at Jackson County Memorial Hospital having received service
pins in recognition for over 700 hours of volunteer service there. Mrs. Gullett was also past president of the auxiliary.

Mrs. Gullett was preceded in death by her first husband, Artie Vinson, her mother, Nona B. Welch, her half-brother,
Robert Welch and her sister, Maude Smith. Most recently her husband, Newt Gullett on November 4th of 2004.
She was the last survivor of the larger Vinson family of 12 children and their spouses.

Mrs. Gullett is survived by her son, Bill Vinson of Virginia, granddaughters, Nona Rea Wilt of Strasburg, Virginia,
Kathy Callahan of Virginia, Christina Thompson of Maryland, two grandsons, Billy and Timothy Vinson and several
great grandchildren in Virginia and Maryland. Son, Rev. Lester L. Vinson and wife Peggy, of Brenham, Texas,
grandson, Ed Vinson and wife Gail of Folsom, California and great grandchildren, Mia Vinson of Sacramento,
California and Graham Vinson of Folsom, California. Granddaughter, Mrs. Jeanny Meeker and husband Jack of
Miracle Farm for Boys at Brenham, Texas, and great granddaughters Lindee Meeker, of Decatur, Texas, Mandy
Meeker of Dallas, Texas and Chrystal Meeker at College Station, Texas.

A stepson Jimmy Newt Gullett and his wife Norma of Benton, Arkansas and their children and families. A step
daughter, Delphine Williamson of Purcell, Oklahoma and her son and daughter.

Mrs. Ree Gullett’s favorite hymn was “Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone”. Her favorite scriptures were The Sermon
On the Mount as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 5: 1-12.

A Memorial service will be held at Lowell-Tims Chapel, Sunday, January 9, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Eugene
Foreman officiating.

Christine Sue Hadden

Christine Sue Hadden, age 64 of Duke, passed away at Jackson County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday,
August 30, 2006.

Christine was born on October 21, 1941 in Portola, California to Delbert LeRoy and Ruth Vera (Lawry) Myers.
She moved to Duke from Fall River Mills, California in 2005 to be nearer her family. She loved listening to
music, playing Yahtzee, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Hadden and one sister, she is survived by five
children, Dennis Hennessey and wife Barbara of Duke, Kathleen Simpson and husband Lawrence of Duke,
Robert Hennessey of Antioch, California, Paul Hennessey of Duke and Michael Hobbs and wife Shawna of
Redding, California; two sisters, Carla Myers of Oregon and Judy Northcut and husband Barney of Rogue River,
Oregon; eighteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two special friends, Rovana Reyennitter of Oregon
and Linda Minor of Antioch, California along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Christine Sue Hadden will be on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the First
Baptist Church in Duke with Rev. Keith Gillham officiating. Interment will follow at Duke Rock Cemetery under
the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

The family of Christine Sue Hadden will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 5,
2006 from 6 until 7 p.m.
