Haught

Velma Elizabeth Atchley Haught died on December 23, 2006, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
She was born on June 14, 1916, in rural Harmon County, Oklahoma, north of Gould, Oklahoma. She was the
third of twelve children born to Lyttleton Harrison Atchley and Rassie Louella Shelby.
Velma attended school at Shrewder, City View, and Gould. She graduated from High School at Gould in 1935,
and she attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. Velma was an outstanding basketball player in
high school at Gould and played on a state championship basketball team.
Velma and Carlos Lee Haught eloped and were married on September 3, 1937, in Vinson, Oklahoma. They
concealed their marriage from their parents and friends for several months, but their marriage ultimately lasted
for more than sixty-three years and ended only with Carlos’ passing in 2001.
Carlos and Velma were members of Brownlow Nazarene Church. After it closed, they attended Metcalf Baptist
Church and then First Baptist Church in Gould.
Velma is survived by four children, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, and three
brothers:
Son, Phil Haught and his wife Nova of Custer City, Oklahoma; their son Sage and his wife Naomi of Katy, Texas,
and their daughter Megan and her husband Scott Smeltzer of League City, Texas.
Daughter, Sherry Davis and her husband Lendon of Childress, Texas; their son Chad of Pueblo, Colorado, his
wife Irene and their children Veronica and Alan; son Lance of Dallas, Texas, son Kyle and his wife Roxana of
Bloomington, Indiana; and son Eric of College Station, Texas.
Son, Doug Haught and his wife Judy of Elk City, Oklahoma; their daughter Lauren Shelton and her husband
Brandon of Plainview, Texas; daughter Shannon Haught of Kirksville, Missouri; and son Keenan of Elk City.
Son, Mark Haught and his wife Carolyn of Elmer, Oklahoma; their daughter Kelsey of Elmer; daughter Allison
Saenz, her children JJ, Matthew, and Korey of Altus; and son Heath Hocker of Altus, and his sons Isaiah and
Blake.
Sister, Glenda Gallup and husband A.N. of Amarillo, Texas; sister, Bernice Stahl of Pryor, Oklahoma; brother,
Randall Atchley and wife Rose of Amarillo, Texas; brother Darrell Atchley and wife Jeri of Turpin, Oklahoma; and
brother Kenneth Atchley and wife Marie of Quinlan, Texas.
Velma and Carlos farmed for more than fifty years north of Gould. Velma also worked for Harmon County
Memorial Hospital for 26 years. She enjoyed gardening and other outdoor projects, watching any kind of
sports, as well as cooking and generally doing for her family and others. She found no greater joy than
preparing and serving meals to all people who came to her home. She placed a great value on education.
After Carlos died in 2001, she was determined to stay on their farm alone, and she succeeded in doing that until
April of 2005 when she moved to Tamarack Assisted Living Center.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings: Lavern, Carl, Lester Abraham, Loyd Lynn,
Leon, and an infant sibling.
Services are Wednesday, December 27th at 2 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus and burial will be at the
Gould Cemetery. Family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm at Lowell-Tims.
In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to the Gould Alumni Association at Stockmans Bank in Gould.

Gladys Maxine Hawkins

Gladys Maxine (Ford) Hawkins, age 78, a resident of Duke since 1990 and formerly of California, passed away
Saturday, December 13, 2008 in Altus.

Gladys was born in Frankfort, Indiana on December 28, 1929 to Edward and Nora (Phillips) Ford. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Duke and helped her friends as a caregiver at their homes. She enjoyed going
to basketball games and watching TV game shows. Gladys loved helping and giving to other people and she will be
missed very much.

Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Junior; Johnny, and Billy; three sisters, Bernice, Hazel, and
Thelma; Gladys is survived by her special friends, Jean Wright of Duke; Maron Wright and his wife Wanda of
Chickasha; all her friends of the Duke community; all her friends from California; and all her adopted grandchildren.

Services for Gladys Maxine Hawkins will be private services conducted at a later time following cremation.

Judith "Judy" Ann Hawthorne

Judith "Judy" Ann Hawthorne of Elmer, Oklahoma was born in
Watertown, Wisconsin on March 8, 1946, passed away on October
18, 2012, at the age of 66.

She enjoyed a 26 year career as a custodian for Altus Public
Schools. She loved spending time at the casino with her sisters.
Judy also loved quilting and crocheting on occasion... she loved
shopping with, and for, her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Keisow, mother,
Margaret Colden, and brother Harry Kiesow.

She is lovingly survived by two sons, Gene Hawthorne and Robert
Hawthorne and his wife Hilda; 5 sisters, Delores Smith and
husband Robert, Mary Fowler and husband Mike, Lucy Navarro,
Janet Smith, Jackie Drone and husband Joe;3 brothers, John
Colden and wife Glenda, Jim Colden, Larry Kiesow and wife Ione; 5
grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of other family
and friends.

A memorial service has been scheduled by the family for Judy
Hawthorne at Vernon Baptist Church, 2700 Montgomery Street in
Vernon, Texas, Saturday, October 20th at 2:00 pm. It will be
officiated by Pastor Gary Chapman.

Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

H.B. “Bob” Haynie, Jr.

Henry Bruce “Bob” Haynie Jr. was born on October 29,1923 to Henry Bruce and Annie Dora Haynie at
Garvin, Oklahoma. He graduated at Mannsville High School in 1941. He married Betty Sue (Coe) Haynie
October 21, 1946. Betty and he were married for 55 years when she preceded him in 2002. They had three
children of the marriage a surviving son Tim Haynie of Altus, Oklahoma and a surviving daughter, Brenda
Dailey of Norman, Oklahoma. His son, Brent Haynie preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by three
grandchildren, Sara Polston of Norman, Oklahoma; Christopher Dailey of Norman, Oklahoma and Taylor Huey
of Victoria, Texas.
He is survived by his brother Harold Haynie and his wife, Betty of Newcastle, Oklahoma. He is also
survived by his sister, Margaret Olson of Modesto, California; his sister, Joyce and her husband Rob Ritter of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and one sister-in-law, Patsy Dial of Garnland, Texas. His brother, Clovis Haynie,
sister, Mabel Barnes and sister, Elizabeth Linville, preceded him in death.
He served in the Army during WWII in the 94th Division under General George S. Patton’s 3rd Army from
August 1944-July 1946 in the European Theater. He was awarded two (2) Bronze Star Medals for heroic
achievements in the Battle of the Bulge. He attended Southwest Oklahoma State University briefly and he
operated and owned the Jackson County Credit Bureau and the Retail Merchants Association at Altus,
Oklahoma for the past 54 years. He lectured about credit to students from grade school to college levels, to
business and national trade organizations, civic clubs, the underprivileged and pre-released prison inmates.
He wrote and published a consumer manual for sensible credit use entitled “Will This Be Cash or Charge” in
1975. He received the District Governor’s Citation for 54 years membership in Rotary Club. He was a past
president of the Altus Rotary Club in 1965-1966. He was president of the Oklahoma Collections Association
1971-1972. He was president of the Associated Credit Bureaus of Oklahoma 1973-1974.
He lived at Altus, Oklahoma for the past 60 years or so and had many friends, and associations here. He
was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Altus.
Services will be Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David
Player officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home.
The family of Bob Haynie will greet friends Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-
Tims Funeral Home.

Roy Haynie

Services for Roy Haynie have a been scheduled for 2:00pm, Monday, January 26, 2004, at the Emmanuel Baptist
Church with Reverend Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements
are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Roy Haynie was born September 28, 1925, in Sherman, Texas. He was the son of Ezra and Ora (Barber) Haynie.
He went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 23, 2004.
Roy and Faye Virginia Baldwin were united in marriage in Sherman, Texas, on February 14, 1954. They moved to
the Altus area in 1990 for North Edward, California to be near their children. His dear wife preceded him in death in
1992.
Mr. Haynie is a Veteran, having served with the United States Marine Corp for six years. He had been in school
maintenance for many years before his retirement. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist church where he
served as a Deacon and also taught Sunday school. Roy was a wonderful father and grandfather and loved nothing
more that spoiling his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working in his yard and trying to make his flowers grow.
Another of his pastimes was fishing. He will be deeply missed by the loving family and friends he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Faye; two step-sons, Johnny and Jerry; five brothers and one
sister.
Roy is lovingly survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Bence of Macon, Georgia and
Donna and Allen Mortimer of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother, Marvin Haynie of Sherman, Texas; eleven grandchildren
and several great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.,

Jesse D. Hays
Jesse D. Hays, 88, of Hollis, passed away Monday, September 24, 2007, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in
Altus.
Jesse was born February 26, 1919, in Terrell, Texas, to Andrew D. and Ida Jane (Baker) Hays. He married Letha
McCauley April 25, 1942, in Hollis, Oklahoma. He became a member of the First Baptist Church in Gould during
an old time summer Revival in August of 1941. After Jesse and Letha married, they made their church home
there until they moved their letter to the First Baptist Church in Hollis on September 4, 1943. He has been a
faithful and active member where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Brotherhood president, and training
union director.
Jesse served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force and was stationed in England for two years.
He also was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict.
Jesse served on the Hollis School Board and also was a member of the Hollis City Council for 18 years. He
coached Little League baseball for 13 consecutive summers. Jesse owned and operated Hays Motor Company in
Hollis for 36 years and retired in 1998. After his “retirement,” he started working for D & E Enterprises as a car
salesman until recent weeks. One of his favorite hobbies was spending his summer days at the lake and catching
catfish.
He is survived by his wife Letha, of the home in Hollis; three sons, Lloyd Hays and wife Ann of Hollis, Mac Hays
and wife Vonda of East Windsor, New Jersey, and Glen Hays and wife Gail of Hollis; two sisters, Florinda Van
Orden of Checotah, Oklahoma, and Anna Mary King of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Jessica Hays, Leanne
Hays, both of Haverton, Pennsylvania, Daniel Hays of Eastontown, New Jersey, Kerry Don Hays and wife Misty of
Wytheville, Virginia, and Coreen LaTre and husband Steven of Lawton, Oklahoma; two step-grandchildren,
Shelia Wyrick of Hollis, and David Ochoa of Oklahoma City; and five great-grandchildren, Arwydd Hays of
Havertown, Pennsylvania, Cheilyn Wyrick of Hollis, Zoie Ochoa and Lola Ochoa, both of Oklahoma City, and
Logan Hays of Wytheville, Virginia.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Robert, and Hugo Hays; one sister, Minnie
West, and a half-brother, A.D. Hays.

Funeral Services for Jesse Hays will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 27, at the First Baptist Church in
Hollis with Reverend Jim Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis,
Oklahoma, under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home in Hollis.

Shasta Hays

Shasta Hays, age 23, of Elk City, Oklahoma, formerly of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away March 8, 2007 in
Carter, Oklahoma.

Shasta was born on July 22, 1983 in Nashville, Tennessee. She moved to Aztec, New Mexico in 1991 and
graduated High School in 2000. After high school she moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where she went to
Barbazon Modeling School and graduated in 2001. Shasta then moved back to Clarksville, Tennessee where
she resided until February 2007 when she moved to Elk City, Oklahoma. Shasta liked to draw, cook, crochet,
make jewelry, style hair, listen to music, and study the Bible. She had a love for people and a gift of making
friends. She never met a stranger and always thought of others and wanted to give of herself. She was loved
by all her family and friends and will be missed greatly. Shasta will always be remembered for her enthusiasm
and boldness.

Preceding Shasta in death was her grandfather John O. Carter.

Shasta is survived by her mother, Sammie Visage and husband Conard of Carter, Oklahoma; her father,
Rodney Glenn Hays of Kentucky; one brother, Clayton Hays of Carter, Oklahoma; two sisters, Maisie Hays of
Elk City, Oklahoma; Lanna Hays of Carter, Oklahoma; grandparents, Mae Carter; Glenn and Letha Hays; five
aunts, Sherry Kucinski; Lisa Arteaga; Tiffany Hays; Hope Hays; Felicia Hays; one uncle, Ashley Hays; cousins,
Neil Hyska; Laura Hyska; Jodi Hyska; Victor McClure and family; Jesse McClure; Clinton McClure; Cloe`
McClure; one niece, Jersey Lee; friends, Ronnie Harrea; Sherry Overton; and numerous other relatives and
many friends.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Cumberland Heights Elementary
School in Clarksville, Tennessee. Inurnment ceremonies will be held Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the family
farm in Carter, Oklahoma. Under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clinton,
Oklahoma.

Wanda Lee Hazzard

Wanda Lee Hazzard, 54, of Blair, Oklahoma, passed away suddenly at her home in Blair, Oklahoma, on
Saturday, December 22, 2007.
Wanda was born March 22, 1953, in Vian, Oklahoma, to Herman and Merle (Ross) Cowett. She graduated
from Lookeba High School in 1971. Wanda was a supervisor at SKF Manufacturing in Hobart, Oklahoma, for 24
years. She lived in Blair for the past 34 years, where she raised her son.
Wanda loved gardening, her cats, and was an avid OU football fan. Her greatest joy in life was her son,
daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her father, Herman Cowett, one brother, Herman Cowett, Jr., one sister, Crystal
Cowett, maternal grandparents, and paternal grandparents, Wanda is survived by her son, James Hazzard and
wife Jennifer of Lawton; her mother, Merle Cowett of Blair; seven sisters, Bea Lewis of Gore, Oklahoma, Darlene
McConnell, also of Gore, Allene Hebensperger and husband John of Hobart, Thelma Wohl and husband
Richard, Kathy Halcomb and husband Bart, Freda Buckner and husband Lonnie, and Linda Cowett, all of Blair;
two brothers, R.B. Cowett of Vian, Oklahoma, and L.D. Cowett and wife Linda of Pourm, Oklahoma; three
grandsons, Ryan Hazzard, Christopher Hazzard, and Matthew Hazzard, all of Lawton; and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Graveside Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, December 26 at the Blair Cemetery with Pastor B.J. Armstrong
officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
