Walter Mitchell

Walter Mitchell, age 64, a long-time resident of Altus and formerly of Mountain Park, Oklahoma, passed
away Monday, November 24, 2008 in Altus with his loved ones at his side.

Walter was born in Mountain Park, Oklahoma on December 17, 1943 to Edgar B. and Cordelia (Davis)
Mitchell. Walter joined the United States Navy as a Boatmaster in 1962 and retired as a Master Sergeant from
the United States Air Force as an Avionics Instrument Systems Specialist. In total Walter had over 22 years of
service to his country with an honorable discharge in 1984. His decorations include; the Meritorious Service Medal
and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was a member of the DAV of Altus. Walter was a main stay at the
Friendship Inn and he lived in the Friendship Inn Apartments for 20 years. He enjoyed being at the Friendship Inn
Cafe and spending time with friends, reading the paper, drinking coffee, and eating there. He enjoyed spending
time with his special friend Marilyn and they would drive around and she would take him back home to Mountain
Park where he liked to visit any time he could and he really enjoyed eating at Mel’s Diner and visiting with the
waitresses there. Walter loved animals, especially his dog Callie, and he helped the Altus Animal Shelter by
donating to them. He always liked giving to people and always was giving away small gifts to people. Walter was
a good and caring person who loved being around his friends and loved ones and he will be missed very much.

Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Coy Mitchell; four half brothers; two half sisters; Walter is
survived by one half brother, Curtis Leroy Mitchell of California; one niece, Earlene Perry; one special friend,
Marilyn Brakebill of Altus; other relatives; and a host of friends. Special thanks to Sara and all the staff at
Friendship Inn.

Graveside Services for Walter Mitchell will be Friday, November 28, 2008 at 1:00 pm, at the Mountain Park
cemetery in Mountain Park, Oklahoma with Chaplain Jessie Forrest officiating. Under the direction of Lowell-
Tims Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home.

MOCK

Altus native, Frances McMahan Mock, age 78, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial
Hospital.

Frances McMahan Mock was born in Altus, Oklahoma, January 28, 1931, to Hatton and Adella (Minor)
McMahan. She is a third generation native of Altus, descendant of pioneers, J.R. McMahan and Fredrick W. Minor.
She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, excelling at all of those, and she was a dear friend to many.

Frances attended Altus public schools, Washington Elementary, Central Jr. High, and Altus High School, graduating
in 1949 as an outstanding basketball player, swimmer, and salutatorian of her class. She was also the drum major of
the band, football queen, and class secretary. She attended Stephens College in Missouri for a year before
transferring to Oklahoma A & M, now OSU. She obtained her degree in Home Economics. At OSU, she was a
member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, a beauty queen for the Redskin annual, and the 1952 sweetheart of Sigma Chi.

Frances married her high school sweetheart, John Mock, on January 27, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Altus.
After finishing college, John was called into the Army and they were stationed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Later, Frances
followed John to Germany. After the tour was completed, they returned to Altus where John joined his dad, Ralph,
and brother, Paul, in the family farming and cattle business.

Frances was a loyal Bulldog and OSU Cowboy fan. She enjoyed going to football and basketball games, traveling
with friends, playing bridge, attending Broadway plays in Oklahoma City, and meeting her friends for coffee on
Thursday mornings. She is famous for her chocolate cake and date pinwheel cookies. She was active in P.E.O. and
the First United Methodist Church in Altus and was a past member of Beta Mother’s Club and Aldonian. Her
greatest joy was her children and grandchildren.

Frances McMahan Mock was preceded in death by her parents, Hatton and Adella McMahan, and sisters-in-law,
Mary McMahan and Mary Nell Mock. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John, of the home; her daughter,
Ann Mock Reeder and husband Carl, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her son, Barry Mock and wife Teresa, of Altus;
grandchildren, Lance and Alexa Mock; her brother, Hatton McMahan and his children, Philip, Diann, and Dan
McMahan; her brother-in-law, Paul Mock, and his children, Harrison Mock and Melissa Brewster; her sister-in-law,
Virginia Snell, and her children, Linda Anthony, Mark Snell, and Betsy Koontz; her aunt, Elizabeth McAskill; and
many other relatives and friends.

Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Services will be
held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Altus with Reverend David Player
officiating. Private interment for family will be at the Altus City Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made in Frances Mock’s name to the First United Methodist Church for the
Building Fund, P.O. Box 502, Altus, OK 73522, or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 N.E. 13th
St., Oklahoma City, OK 73104.

Mary Nell Mock

Mary Nell Sipes Mock passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, after a long and
courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mary Nell was born February 5, 1924 in the historic “Rock House”
south of Olustee, Oklahoma. The house, built by her grandfather L.Z. Eddleman in 1881,once the headquarters for
the sprawling “Cross S Ranch”. Mary Nell was the daughter of Orley and Nellie Eddlelman Sipes, pioneer
merchants of Olustee, Oklahoma.

She attended the University of Oklahoma and was later employed by Sohio Oil Company in Oklahoma City. In
1949 she met and married Paul Harrison Mock and they established their home in Altus, Oklahoma.

Mary Nell was an avid student of history and a great lover of music. She was a member of the Anne Lee Chapter
of Daughters of the American Revolution, The First Families of Twin Territories, The Museum o f the Western
Prairie, the Western Trails Historical Society, and the Jackson County Hostorical Society. She was past president of
the Aldonian Club and an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School.

She will be remembered as a great lover of family and for keeping alive her rich family heritage of Texas and
Oklahoma history, espeacially that of her families “Cross S Ranch” and it’s Headquarters which has been nominated
for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

Family and friends describe Mary Nell as filled with grace and beauty and the epitome of class and elegance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Helen and Carl Lightner and Jane and J.
D. Prater. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul; one son Paul Harrison Mock Jr. and his wife Sandra of
Irving Texas; one daughter, Melissa Brewster and her husband Dr. Scot Brewster and their children, Sterling,
Meredith and Spencer, all of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and several nieces and nephews.

Private Graveside Services will be held with a Public Memorial Service Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul”s
Episcopal Church, Altus, Oklahoma with Rev. Suzanne Mollison officiating. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.
Following the service there will be a reception in the church parish hall.

In lieu of flowers the family refquest memorial gifts be made to the Oklahoma Medical Researach Foundation in
Mary Nell’ name for research on Alzheimer’s Disease.

Angela Rose Moffa

Angela Moffa, age 92 passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born to Joseph and Maria (Paseralla) Secondo on May 31, 1912 in New York City, New York.
On February 16, 1941, Angela married James Joseph Moffa in Woodside, New York.
She was raised at St. Francis Home in New York City after her mother’s death. She began her career as a manicurist
and then later became a dietary worker where she worked from September 1969 until October 1981 at the Southside
Hospital in Bay Shore, NY. She loved cooking for her family, playing Bingo and sewing.
Angela is survived by her daughter, Mary Lambert and husband Anthony of Altus, Oklahoma and two grandchildren;
James Anthony Lambert and Anne Mary Lambert both of Norman, Oklahoma.
She is preceded in by her parents, husband, James on February 6, 1998, one daughter, Angela Cozelino, one brother;
Michael Secondo and one sister; Rose Secondo.
Celebration of Life Service for Angela Moffa will be held Friday, March 18, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the First United
Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Burr officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home.

Molina

Rosa Molina Betancourt, age 55, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 20, 2009, at the Vista Care Center in
Lubbock, Texas.

Rosa was born June 22, 1953, to Ramon Molina and Margarita Betancourt in Aguascalientes, Mexico. She was
a dedicated nurse and loved her job until her health required her to retire. Rosa lived in Altus for several years, then
moved to California, Nebraska, and finally moved to Plainview, Texas where she spent the last two years.

She married Juan Gaitan in 1991, in Vernon, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her
family meant the world to her. She will be greatly missed.

Rosa is survived my her husband, Juan Gaitan of Colima, Mexico; her daughter, Claudia Perez Molina, of
Lincoln, Nebraska; three sons, Oscar Perez Molina of Los Angeles, California, Juan Carlos Perez Molina of Jersey
City, New Jersey, and Ramon Gaitan of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandsons, Juan Calzada, Jr. of Lincoln, Nebraska
and Eric Perez of Los Angeles, California; four granddaughters, Diana Calzada, Yadira Calzada, Karen Calzada,
and Claudia Calzada, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; one great-grandson, Cadillac Nicholas of Lincoln, Nebraska, and a
son-in-law, Juan Calzada of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Molina and Margarita Bentancourt, one brother, Ramon
Molina, and two sisters, Maria De Jesus Molina and Guadalupe Molina.
A Vigil will be held at the home of Rosa Molina Betancourt, 509 W. Broadway, Altus, Oklahoma, on Monday,
February 23, from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with
Deacon Eulis Mobley officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.

Dorothy J. Mollison

Dorothy J. Mollison, age 81, passed away Thursday evening February 24, 2006, at Tamarack Retirement Center in
Altus. She was born April 10, 1924, in Newton, Kansas, to Ted R. and Bonnie (Peters) Farris. She had lived in the
Altus community since 1948.
Dorothy and Malcolm Mollison were united in marriage February 6, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Dr.
Mollison preceded her in death October 8, 1995.
Dorothy was a homemaker who took pride in making a home for her family. She was an active member of St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church and was honored for her thirty years of faithful service to the altar guild there. Dorothy enjoyed a
good game of bridge with friends, traveling abroad, and giving beautiful dinner parties. She was always the epitome of
a lady. Dorothy loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three children, Judge C. Suzanne Mollison of Altus, Oklahoma, Patty M. Hamlin and her husband
Joe of Lawton, Oklahoma, their sons Jason and Chris, Richard A. Mollison and wife Cynthia of Tulsa, Oklahoma,
and their son Nicholas. She is also survived by her sister Jean Reif and her husband Edward of Tulsa, Oklahoma;
nephews Dr. Michael Reif and Dick Reif; and a host of many wonderful friends.
Memorial Service for Dorothy J. Mollison is scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church with The Rev. Haynes Dugan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in memory of Dorothy J. Mollison.

Ola Leona Monks

Ola Leona Monks, age 65 of Altus, passed away October 29, 2003 at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton.
Viewing will be on Friday and Saturday till 9:00 P.M. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Ola was born May10, 1938 in Arkansas, to parents James Herman Capehart and Leona Capehart. She was united
in marriage to Kenneth James Monks in 1965 at McCurtain, Oklahoma. In 1965, they moved to Blair, Oklahoma.
Ola was a homemaker, attended the Salvation Army, and enjoyed being with her family. She also enjoyed working
around her house and watching television.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Bill and Alvie Capehart. Ola is survived by
her two children, Faye and husband Curtis Frysinger of Snyder, Oklahoma and Kenny and wife Monica Monks;
sister in law, Earlene Capehart of Blair; brother, Bobby and wife Edna Capehart of Mangum, Oklahoma; sister,
Shirley Thompson of Mangum, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Monroe

Edgar Wilbert Monroe, 80, longtime resident of Southwest Oklahoma, passed
away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo,
Texas.
Edgar was born October 2, 1928, in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, to Stanley and
Lundy Lucille (Brooks) Monroe. He grew up in the Lone Wolf and Granite
area moving to Hedley, Texas, in 1985. Edgar was saved and baptized in
1983 in Mangum, Oklahoma.
On June 29, 1963, Edgar and Sandra Gardenhire were married in Rossville,
Georgia. They had just celebrated their 46th anniversary.
Edgar had proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict by serving in
the United States Army.
After moving to Hedley, Edgar and Sandra started Monroe’s Peach Ranch.
They were well known for their excellent peaches and established their first
Fruit Stand on highway 287 east of Amarillo.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin Monroe
and Clyde Monroe; one sister, Lorene Monroe; and by one granddaughter,
Lila Kate Monroe.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sandra of the home in Hedley; five
children, Regina Monroe of Memphis, Texas, Troy Monroe and wife
Katherine of Hedley, Texas, Tony Monroe and wife Angie of Memphis,
Texas, Jeremy Monroe and wife Angela of Clarendon, Texas, and Matthew
Monroe and wife Shelby of Mangum, Oklahoma; one brother, Bill Monroe of
Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mary Edwards of Blair, Oklahoma,
Pauline George, also of Blair, and Nell McGregor and husband Jerry of Lone
Wolf, Oklahoma. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Paul Monroe and wife
Carrie, Devonia Monroe, Colton Springer, Rochelle Springer, Josh Monroe,
William Monroe, Addison Monroe, Eric Monroe, Sara Monroe, Erin Monroe,
Caylor Monroe, Collin Monroe, Kylie Monroe, and Jacob Fineberg.

Funeral services for Edgar Wilbert Monroe will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July
3, 2009, at the Trinity Holiness Church in Blair with Pastor Billy Hudson
officiating. Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

Marjorie Louise Monzingo

Marjorie Louise Monzingo was born Jan 5, 1918 in Marshfield, Oregon. She was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and
Minnie Lee (Ross) Allison. She died Jan. 4, 2003 in Altus.
She was a long time resident of Altus and Jackson County having resided here since 1929.
She married Leroy Monzingo, March 11, 1934 in Mangum, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1954. She owned and
operated a restaurant in Altus for 30 years. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: Son Ken Monzingo of San Diego, Calif., 6 Grandchildren and 3 Great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Sandra Jean Walker, and 1 sister, Edith Hadley.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
