Albennie Pollard

Mother Albennie Pollard was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age at the Atlus No. 1 Church of God in
Christ under the Pastorage of Bishop J.B. Hawkin. Sister Pollard also served under the pastorage of Elder H.K. Neal,
and was serving faithfully under the Pastorage of Elder M. D.Taylor until he resigned.

She served as the president of Pastor’s Aide, Sunday School Teacher, President of the District and served as a
member of the State Usher Board of Okla. N.W. COGIC. The late Mother Albennie Pollard was born December
6, 1905 in Jackson Ville, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace. She is the oldest of two children.

Her mother, father, sister and three children, Marie Cooper, Earnest E. and James Pollard; her husbands Mr.
Roosevelt Cooper and Mr. Tom Pollard all preceded her in death.

Sister Pollard married Mr. Roosevelt Cooper. To this union three children were born. Marie, Cornelius and Roosevelt
Jr. She later married Tom Pollard and to this union eight children were born. Earnest E., Earlene, Doris, Tom Frank,
Joy Laverne, Bennie Lee, James and Sharon.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, Mr. Roosevelt Cooper Jr. of Los Angeles, California, Earlene Pollard of
Altus, Oklahoma, Cornelius Cooper, Doris Rapley, Tom Frank Pollard, Joy Edwards and husband Curtis, Bennie Lee
Pollard and wife Laverne,

and Sharon Grisby all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. One nephew Joe L. Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas and a host of
grandchildren, great-grandchildren other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Albennie Pollard are scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. in the Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home Chapel with Sonny Tims and Elder B.L. Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City
Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home

PORTER

Raymond H. Porter, 89, of Big Spring, Texas, formerly of Altus, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Parkview
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Big Spring.

Raymond was born April 7, 1920, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Hoox and Lula Mae (Murphy) Porter. He attended Altus Schools
and graduated from Altus High School in 1939. Raymond married Rowena Kelly November 22, 1941, in Altus. He served his
country during World War II in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945.

Raymond worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years in Altus. In the late 1960’s, Raymond moved to Midland,
Texas, and then returned to Altus in 1981 where he worked at the First United Methodist Church as a maintenance supervisor
and later worked at the Southwest Technology Center for Junior Rowland as a custodian. In 1995, Raymond moved back to
Midland, Texas, to be near his daughter, Paula.

Raymond was a Mason for over 61 years. He was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge #62 in Altus in 1985 and 1987. He
was also a Perpetual Member of the Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason of Guthrie Scottish Rites Bodies, a Shrine Mason,
and a member of the India Temple in Oklahoma City. Raymond was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.

He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Mathis and husband John of Great Falls, Montana, and Paula Duvall and husband
John of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren, Clovis Porter, Krysta Hyde, Shayne Mathis, and Scott Mathis, and six great-
grandchildren.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rowena Porter; one son, Raymond Eugene Porter; three
grandchildren, Rachelle Porter, Leigh Ann Duvall, and Justin Edward Duvall; one brother, and three sisters.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Lodge #62 in Altus, Oklahoma, or the charity of one’s choice.
A Memorial Graveside Service for Raymond Porter will be held 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Altus City
Cemetery with Bobby Laws and Russell Lewis officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral
Home.

POWELL

John David Powell, age 72, of Blair passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 24, 2006.

He was born December 4, 1933, in Levelland, Texas, to Benton Leon and Mary Jo (Chambers) Powell. As a
young man he traveled to many states, as a jockey, competing in horse races. He later worked for Texaco on a
drilling crew on the Texas Gulf Coast where he met the love of his life, LaVerne Smith. They were married
September 29, 1956, in Palacios Texas.

David served his country in the United States Army from1956 until1958. After moving to Oklahoma in 1960, he
became engaged in the trucking business. He owned and operated Powell Trucking in Blair for many years, and was
most recently involved with Powell Truck Sales.

He had a life-time love of horses, as well as other animals, including his dog, Shadow. He was active in the Blair
Riding Club and served as president. He enjoyed working, helping others and especially spending time with family.

His parents; two sisters, Sandra Gail Powell and Joyce Powell; and a granddaughter, Holly Powell, preceded him in
death.

David is survived by his wife, LaVerne, of Blair; four sons, Keith Powell and fiancee Connie Biddy, Clay Powell and
wife Deanie, Brett Powell and wife Fran all of Blair, and Deryl Powell and fiancée Tammy Kelso of Altus; one
daughter, Kristi Powell-Shelby and husband Perry of Sayre; nine grandchildren, Melissa Cumby and husband Jay of
Norman, Tara Powell of Kingsville, Texas, Cody Powell, Wade Powell, Stana Cargal, Jill Powell, all of Blair,
Kamryn and Kaden Shelby of Sayre, and Tracy Butler of Altus; four great grandchildren, Jaci and Joeli Cargal of
Norman, Mayson Crow of Cement, and Kadence Cumby of Norman; one brother Jack Powell and wife Joy of
Clinton; one sister Sue St. Clair of Mt. Lake Terrace, Washington, and many nieces, nephews and a host of many
friends.

Funeral services for John David Powell will be Friday, January 27, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Blair
with Reverend Randy Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Joyce Lynn Powell

age 83 of Blair, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, December 4, 2004 at English Village Manor in Altus. She was born
December 15, 1920 in Fate, Texas to Benton Leon and Mary Jo (Chambers) Powell.

Joyce had lived in the Jackson County area since 1950 moving here from Levelland, Texas. She was a homemaker and
a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.

She is survived by one sister Virginia Sue St. Clair of Mountlake Terrace, Washington, two brothers Jack Keith Powell
and wife Joy of Clinton, Oklahoma, David Powell and wife Laverne of Blair, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a host
of nephews, nieces and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Sandra Gail Powell.

Graveside service for Joyce Lynn Powell is scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the Altus City
Cemetery with Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Cecil “Max” Purdy

Cecil “Max” Purdy, age 59, of Altus, passed away March 27, 2003 at the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in
Lawton. Services under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus are set for 11:00 A.M., Monday, March
31, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Altus City Cemetery. The Rev. Doug
Burr will officiate. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Max was born May 23, 1943 at Altus, Oklahoma to parents Cecil and Margaret Whitley Purdy. He grew up and
attended school in Altus. Max went on to Oklahoma State University, where he received a degree in Veterinary
Medicine. For many years Max enjoyed a successful practice and was the owner and operator of the Animal Medical
Center on North Main in Altus. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Altus and was a member of the
Registered Brangus Association.
Max is survived by his parents, Cecil and Margaret Purdy of Altus; One son, John and wife Jamie Purdy of Altus; Two
daughters, Joy Scales and husband Joe of Blacksburg, Virginia and Heather Hughes and husband James of
Blacksburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Jessica Scales, Jacob Scales, Lee Ann Hughes, River Hughes and Andrew
Hughes and many close friends.

PRESTON

Edith Clowdus Preston, age 92 of Oklahoma City and formerly of Olustee, passed away at her daughters’ home in
Oklahoma City late Friday evening, May 29, 2009.

Mrs. Preston was born at Hess, Oklahoma on June 22, 1916, to Milton Luther and Nellie May (Black) Edens. At
an early age, the family moved to the Harmony Community, south of Olustee, where she attended school. After
meeting the love of her life, Paul Hayden Clowdus, she quit school before the second semester of her senior year and
they married in 1934. Hayden was engaged in farming and worked as a heavy-duty equipment mechanic and
welder. For a few short years after their marriage, they spent time in California and the Texas Panhandle where
Hayden farmed. After moving back to the Olustee Community in 1952, Hayden continued to farm and work at Altus
Air Force Base and the area missile silos while Edith took care of the duties at home with the raising of three
children. Edith eventually began working at the Olustee Cotton Gin when she was needed, and after Hayden’s death
on March 30, 1967, she worked at Scoggins Cattle Company, Altus Glass and Mirror, the City of Altus, and as a
real estate agent and broker for Burl Winters. One of the highlights of Edith’s life was going back to school and
graduating with her son, Larry, from Olustee High School in 1965. As an avid OU fan, Edith enjoyed sports of all
types and cooking and sewing. A faithful member of the Church of Christ for many years, Edith loved spending time
with her family and friends and attending worship services with her church family at the Southwest Church of Christ in
Oklahoma City.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Hayden Clowdus; her husband, Frank Preston; one son, Lonnie
Paul Clowdus; six brothers and one sister, she is survived by two children, Linda Zane Sanders and husband Gene of
Oklahoma City and Larry Clowdus and wife Judy of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Paul Hayden Clowdus
and wife Yolanda of El Paso, Texas, Kim Robbins of Oklahoma City, Kristi Sanders of Oklahoma City, Kala Leger
and husband Jason of Newcastle, April Kaaiohelo and husband Jason of Edmond, Nancy Mack and husband Jay of
Tulsa and Jon Clowdus and wife Stephanie of Oklahoma City; eleven great grandchildren; one sister-in-law along
with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Edith will be buried by her beloved, Hayden, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Olustee Cemetery. A
memorial service will follow at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Bill
Osborne officiating. A visitation will follow the memorial service at the funeral home. Services are under the direction
of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.

Mrs. Clowdus will lie in state on Sunday, May 31, 2009, and Monday, June 1, 2009, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. at
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Cecil C. Purdy

Cecil C. Purdy, age 90, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 in Altus, Oklahoma. He was born February 18,
1913 in Tipton, Oklahoma to John Wesley Purdy and Hattie (Carrena) Purdy.

He graduated from Tipton High School in 1931 and attended Southwestern State Teachers College in 1936 where
he received his Bachelor’s Degree. While in college he met Margaret Whitley and they were married October 31,
1936.

He taught school at Midway near Eldorado, Oklahoma, and was a grade school principal at Hess and Robert E.
Lee, and Washington School in Altus. He retired in 1950 to farm and train horses. Cecil was a member of the First
United Methodist Church.

Cecil is lovingly survived by his wife Margaret of the home in Altus, two granddaughters; Joy Scales and husband
Joe of Blacksburg, Virginia, Heather Hughes and husband James of Bedford, Virginia, one grandson, John Purdy of
Bedford, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Scales, Jacob Scales, Lee Ann Hughes, River Hughes and Andrew
Hughes.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, and one son Dr. C. Max Purdy and two brothers, John Purdy and
William Purdy.

Funeral Services for Cecil Purdy are scheduled for Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Margie Van Oostrum officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery
under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Margaret A. Purdy

Margaret A. Purdy, 89, of Altus, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Jackson County Memorial
Hospital in Altus.

Margaret was born April 23, 1915, in Alfalfa, Oklahoma, to J.M. and Sophie (Norman) Whitley. She married
Cecil Purdy October 31, 1936, and he preceded her in death March 27, 2004.

Margaret was a second grade teacher in Altus for 28 years where she taught for 2 years at Robert E. Lee
elementary and 26 years at Eugene Field. She was a past president of the Altus Literary Club, a member of retired
educators of Jackson County, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus. Her proudest
achievement was being selected as the Jackson County Teacher of the year in 1966.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Joy Scales and husband Joe of Blacksburg, Virginia, Heather Hughes and
husband James of Bedford, Virginia, and John Purdy of Altus, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Scales,
Jacob Scales, Lee Ann Hughes, River Hughes, and Andy Hughes. Margaret was also survived by numerous nieces,
nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.M. and Sophie Whitley, her husband, Cecil
Purdy, one son, Max Purdy, one sister, and five brothers.

There will be a family visitation Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, January 25, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel with Reverend Doug
Burr officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Glenda Quisenberry

Glenda Quisenberry, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2005, from complications of
respiratory failure. Mrs. Quisenberry was born on December 17, 1939 in Altus, Oklahoma to Cromer and Lillian
Brunson. She graduated from Pampa High School in Pampa, Texas, in 1957. She made her home in Amarillo,
Texas with her husband, Jimmy Quisenberry, and their two children, Kenneth and Karen, and moved to Topeka in
1993.
Glenda is lovingly survived by her husband, Jimmy Quisenberry; one son Kenneth Quisenberry and wife Kay; one
daughter; Karen Quisenberry and one grandson; John, as well as many friends and relatives.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 11, 2005 at 1:00 pm at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at the Hess Cemetery. Under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2005 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
