Stanley

Juanita Stanley, 92, of Hollis, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008, at the Integris Southwest Medical Center in
Oklahoma City.

Juanita was born September 30, 1915, to Frank and Minnie Lee (Berry) Harvill in Addington, Oklahoma. She
graduated from Addington Schools in the early 1930’s. She married H.R. “Hub” Stanley November 2, 1935, in
Waurika, Oklahoma. She and Hub moved to Hollis in 1943 where Hub worked for United Grocery. After a few
years with United Grocery, he and Ed McClendon opened their own grocery store, S & M Grocery. Juanita
owned “Juanita’s Dress Shop” for several years. After closing her dress shop, she worked as a sales clerk for Hill’s
Department Store and Taylor’s Department Store for many years. In the 1960’s, Juanita and a group of friends
traveled to Memphis, Texas, to work at Burlington Sheet Factory. She was very active in the First Baptist Church
in Hollis where she served on various committees, including the nurturing committee. Her favorite pastime was her
Friday afternoon coffee group held at her home where her many friends had coffee, cookies, and fellowship.

Juanita is survived by two daughters, Judy Castleman and husband Jerry, of Houston, Texas, and Nancy
Kirkpatrick and husband Larry, of Moore, Oklahoma; four grandsons, Chris Kirkpatrick and wife Torey, of
Portland, Oregon, Kent Castleman and wife Diane, of Kingwood, Texas, Tommy Castleman and wife Kathy, of
Garland, Texas, and Stan Castleman of Spring, Texas; one granddaughter, Judith Adams and husband Bryan, of
San Springs, Oklahoma; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Earnestine Harvill of Duncan, Oklahoma;
several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hub Stanley on February 9, 1995, and seven brothers
and sisters.

Funeral Services for Juanita Stanley will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the First Baptist
Church in Hollis with Pastor Jim Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis
under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home.

Beatrice Eurice Starkey

Beatrice Eurice Starkey age 100, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2004 in Altus, Oklahoma. She was born
March 6, 1903 in Martha, Oklahoma to William Pierce Collier and Laura Maude (Teague) Collier.
She was a graduate of Martha High School. Her family moved to Hale Center, Texas and she lived there until she
married Ivan Lee (Doc) Starkey on July 12, 1925. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1958. They owned and
operated the Altus Bakery for twenty-five years, they also operated a motel in Williams, Arizona. After Doc’s death
she moved back to Martha and lived with her aunt and uncle, Bud and Carrie Mae Ray. Beatrice worked for Maffrey
Travel Agency for awhile. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hale Center, Texas.
She is survived by three nieces, Margaret Faith of Hale Center, Texas, Faye Traxler of Tuttle, Oklahoma and Joy
McClure of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two nephews, Dale Johnson of Washington, and Gene Collier of Duncan,
Oklahoma; and a very large extended family she loved so much. Although she had no children she was a mother,
grandmother, and friend to many.
Funeral Services for Beatrice Starkey are scheduled for Monday, March 1, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Martha Cemetery under the
direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Betty Jo Cunningham Starr

Betty Jo Cunningham Starr, 82, died peacefully Monday night at Jackson County Memorial Hospital with her
family near her.
Betty was born in Mangum on August 7, 1925, the daughter of Ivan and Bess Cunningham. She graduated as
Valedictorian from Mangum High School in 1943. She attended Oklahoma College for Women (now known as
USAO) in Chickasha. In 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, James G. Starr. James and Betty reared
their family in Altus, then moved to Oklahoma City in 1986. Betty returned to Altus in 2006 to live with her daughter
and family.
Betty’s grandparents, Wilson M. Cunningham and Jeanie Dickey, came to Jackson County from Tennessee in the
late 1890’s to take advantage of free land being offered by the homestead laws. The family acquired land north of
Duke. Her grandparent’s first home, like those of other settlers, was a half dugout. Betty’s grandmother, Jeanie
Dickey Cunningham, succumbed to the flu epidemic that swept the county at the close of WWI. In the spirit of a true
pioneer, W.M. Cunningham promoted the town of Duke and helped establish Rock School. The Cunningham
family continued to farm in Jackson County throughout most of the twentieth century.
Betty was a member of the USAO Alumni Board and the USAO Alumni Council. She was a member of First
Baptist Church. She loved to play bridge and to be with her friends. She was an avid Sooner football fan, as well as
any sports her grandchildren were involved in. She cherished her family and her faith. Having her family near was
her greatest joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and son Dr. Dwight Starr. She is survived by her
sons Mike and his wife Pam, of Wheaton, Illinois; Bubba, and his wife Mona, of Benton, Arkansas; daughters Jan
Smith and husband Ricky, of Oklahoma City, and Cathy Madl and husband Dave, of Altus. She also had 15
grandchildren, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Betty will be greatly missed by many whose lives she touched. We all were simply blessed to have known her and
be a part of her life.
Funeral Services for Betty Jo Cunningham Starr are scheduled for Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the
First Baptist Church in Altus with Zane Newton officiating. Interment at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of
Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends Wednesday evening December 5, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Youth Department in memory of Betty Jo Cunningham Starr.

John Joseph Steen
John Joseph Steen, age 63, of Headrick, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 8, 1942 in Santo, Texas to Robert Hall Steen and Flora Ellen (Williams) Steen. On August 10,
1963 in Ft. Worth, Texas John and Sandra J. Klock were united in marriage.
John entered the United States Air Force August 15, 1961 and served as a Medical Administrative Superintendent
for over twenty years. During this time he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal; Air Force
Commendation Medal, 1 Oakleaf Cluster; NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, 1 Oakleaf Cluster;
Humanitarian Service Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, 4 Oakleaf Clusters; National Defense Service
Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, 1 Oakleaf Cluster, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, 1 Silver
Oakleaf Cluster. On August 31, 1981 John retired from Altus Air Force Base. After retirement John went to work
for Fox Building Supply in Altus and worked there from 1981 until 1982. He worked at Altus Air Force Base with
C. C. Distributors until 1994 and then returned to Fox Building Supply in 1994 and retired in January of 2006.
John had several hobbies he enjoyed; hunting, remodeling his home and playing country music with his friends.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Steen of the home in Headrick, Oklahoma; three children, Scott Steen and wife
Dawn of Grants Pass, Oregon, Roni Ferrenberg and husband Jim of Headrick, Oklahoma, Dana Olmstead and
husband Brian of Danbury, Connecticut. He is also survived by two sisters Flora Allstun and husband Ronnie of East
Prairie, Missouri, Sharon Gunn and husband Jerry of Mineral Wells, Texas; two brothers Glen Steen and Loyd Steen
and wife Terri all of Santo, Texas; mother-in-law Eleanor Klock of Three Mile Bay, New York; six grandchildren,
Amanda Steen, Montgomery Steen, Megan Ferrenberg, Ethan Ferrenberg, Kyle Olmstead, Brendan Olmstead; and
a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, and many musical friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Ronny Lynn Steen.
Funeral Services for John Steen are scheduled for Thursday, March 9, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist
Church in Headrick with Rev. Jim Flynn officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in the Headrick
Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Jessie Lee Steen

Jessie Lee Steen, age 87, went to be with the lord on Friday, May 21, 2004 after a lengthy illness.
Jessie was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, February 9, 1917, to Jake and Lucille (Crosby) Collins. She graduated from
Fort Towson High School in 1936. She graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1946 with an
elementary education degree. At Southeastern she was voted Top Ten Prettiest and Best Dressed of her graduating
class. On April 11, 1945 she married Fred Steen in Broken Bow. She taught school in Cedar Springs, Fort Towson
and Broken Bow until she and Fred moved to Jackson County in 1952. She then taught school in Altus for one year
at Eugene Field Elementary. She then taught fourth grade in Blair Schools until her retirement in 1975. During this time
she also helped her husband to establish Peoples State Bank of Blair and worked with him until his death in 1976.
Jessie was a member of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and Retired Teachers Association she loved OU football,
especially the OU-Texas games and had season tickets for a number of years. But her biggest source of pride was her
two granddaughters, Melissa and Meagan.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband Fred and her brother James (Buddy) Collins.
She is survived by her son, Rick Steen and his wife Carol of Altus, two granddaughters, Melissa and Meagan Steen of
Altus, one sister, Jewell Russell of Hugo, one niece, Linda Irvin of Hugo, three nephews, Jeff and Randy Collins of
Hugo, and Bobby Russell of Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made in Jessie Steen’s name to the Alzheimer’s and
Related Disorders, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the charity of their choice.
Services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 2:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore
Officiating, Interment will be at Restlawn Cemetery. Under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Gaile D. Stein

Gaile D. Stein, age 86, a resident of Clinton, formerly of Elk City, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007 in Clinton.
She was born on August 22, 1920 in Foss, Oklahoma to James B. and Trula (Adams) Davis. Gaile graduated from
Burns Flat High School. On April 5, 1973 she married Leonard H. Stein and they were married for over 34 years
before her death.

Preceding Gaile in death were her parents James B. and Trula Davis; one brother, Charles D. Davis.
Gaile is survived by her husband Leonard H. Stein of Clinton; daughter Shirley Burgtorf and husband Alan of
Clinton; four grandchildren, Jim and Laura Butcher; Jon and Jackie Butcher; three great grandchildren, Gage,
Sydney, and Reid Butcher; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Gaile D. Stein will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Paige Cemetery in Burns
Flat with Reverend Larry Holder officiating. Under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Cremation
Service of Clinton.
In lue of flowers please make donations on behalf of Gaile D. Stein to the Methodist Living Center in Clinton.

Adrian Alejandro Steiner

Adrian Alejandro Steiner, infant son of Carl and Donna Steiner of Altus, passed away May 2, 2003. Services are set
for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at the First United Pentecostal Church of Altus. Rev. Lionel Mounce will
officiate and interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery.
Adrian is survived by his parents, Carl and Donna Steiner of Altus; two brothers, Ethan and Ryan Steiner; one sister,
Marisa Cantu and grandmother, Marie Herrera as well as his extended church family.

STINGEL

Nancy Lee Stingel, age 62 of Altus, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Jackson County Memorial
Hospital.

Mrs. Stingel was born on December 22, 1943 to Okla Dale and Mary Elizabeth (Burns) Allbaugh. She moved to
Altus in 2004 from Korea and was in her thirty-third year of employment with Civil Service. She was currently a
Family Service Advocate at Altus Air Force Base at the time of her death. An active and involved member of the
Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Nancy loved volunteering her time and talents with Hospice, CASA, ACMI
House and the Rape Crisis Volunteers. Loving to help people, she was also a foster mother for many years. She
enjoyed her two dogs, Happy and Shi Shi, gardening and shopping, but most of all, spending time with her family
and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents and one son, Buddy Stingel in 2003, she is survived by one son, Richard Stingel
and wife Wynn of Swansea, South Carolina; one daughter, Robin Whittaker and husband Brian of Custer, South
Dakota; two sisters, Pat Rogers of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Mary Lynn Baum and husband Roy of Choctaw,
Oklahoma; one brother, Bob Allbaugh of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, McKenzie Richbourg,
Markie Stingel, Ryan Stingel, Mercedes Lynn, Devan Lynn, Russel Lynn, and Jacob Lynn and a host of aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A Funeral
Mass will be held on Monday, July 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Joe
Arledge officiating.

STOTZER

Charlotte Irene Stotzer, age 59 of Altus, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007.

Charlotte was born on February 10, 1947, to John and Ida Mae (Folley) Jewell in Altus. On August 13, 1966, she
married Robert Stotzer and they moved to New Jersey shortly after their marriage. After her husband’s retirement,
they moved back to Altus in 1999, where they made their home. Playing dominoes, bingo and spending time with
her family and friends were the things Charlotte enjoyed most of all in life.

Preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Ericka Urrutia in 2006, she is survived by her husband, Bob, of
the home; one daughter, Eileen Warnock and husband Pat of Union, New Jersey; a son-in-law, Diego Urrutia of
Hillsborough, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Casey, Paige, Jake and Marcus and many other family members and
friends.

Funeral services for Charlotte Irene Stotzer will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home Chapel with Brian O’Hair, elder of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, officiating. A private family
inurnment will be held at a later date at the Altus City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home of Altus.

The family of Charlotte Stotzer will greet friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007, at Lowell-Tims
Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice at 1104 N.
Spurgeon, Altus, OK 73521 in memory of Charlotte Stotzer.

Roland “RB” Stout

RB Stout age 73, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at English Village.
He was born to JD Stout and Anne May (Glenn) Stout on November 15, 1931 in Wayne Oklahoma.
RB was a lifetime resident of Jackson County, he graduated at Sentinel High School in 1949, was a member of the
Duke Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher and many other positions in the church. He was a
commander at the American legion in Duke, he also taught AG at Southside and in Vinson Oklahoma. He served in
the Korean Conflict.
RB is survived by his two sons; Tom Stout and wife Kay of Nacogdoches, Texas and Glenn Stout of Altus,
Oklahoma; one brother Dean Stout and wife Betty of Manson, Washington, one sister Lillian Lund of Concrete,
Washington and sister-in-law Emma Stout of Denton, Texas and a host of relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by is parents, step-mother; Leah Stout and Brother Glenn Stout.
Services will be held Friday, January 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Duke Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the
Victory Cemetery. Under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
