Sutton

Bess Ruth Sutton, 85, formerly of Eldorado, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.

She was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Eldorado to John and Cora Elizabeth (Conway) Crume.

She attended school in Eldorado and later went away to college for a short time.

She lived in many places during her adult life including Amarillo, Lubbock, and Quanah, Texas.

She and her second husband, Jason Sutton, moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and lived there for about one year.

In 1975, she and her husband moved back to Quanah until his death in the mid-1990's.

She then moved back to Eldorado for a short time before going into the nursing home in Snyder.

Her family was very proud when she decided to go back to college at the age of 72 to obtain an associate's degree in computer application. She loved to go to church and sing in the choir.

Her passion was helping others, no matter their station in life. She also enjoyed making things for her grandsons.

She is survived by her son, John LaReau and wife Pam of Plano, Texas; two grandsons, Britt Lane LaReau and wife Tiffany of Woodstock, Ga., and Brock Jared LaReau and wife Geneva of The Colony, Texas; one great-grandson, Bradley LaReau of Woodstock, Ga.; and one brother, James C. “Jimmie” Crume of Eldorado (currently living in Snyder.)

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesda at the Eldorado Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Funeral Home in Hollis, Ok, Patterson Greer Funeral Homes.

Suttle

Coy Wilton Suttle, Jr., 84, longtime Altus resident, passed away Tuesday morning, June 30, 2009, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Lawton.

Coy was born October 19, 1924, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Coy Wilton and Ruth Marie (Purdam) Suttle.

He graduated from Lawton High School in 1943.

Coy joined the Navy August 6, 1943, and served his country during World War II until 1946.

He married Oma Marie Gentry May 24, 1946, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

They moved to Altus in 1948 and Coy worked at the Altus Music Company from 1953 to 1958.

He later went to work as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and retired from there after twenty-eight years as a dedicated employee.

Coy was a lifetime member of the Altus VFW, the Scottish Rites in Guthrie, the India Shrine in Oklahoma City, and a proud member of the Altus Masonic Lodge #62.

He and Oma were faithful members of the First Baptist Church in Altus.

He is survived by his loving wife, Oma Suttle, of Altus; two daughters, Kay Marie Mercer of Altus and Sheryl Jean Kinder and husband Steve of Anderson, South Carolina; one brother, Lester Suttle and wife Esther of Lawton; four grandchildren, Catherine Marie Mercer, Robert Wilton Mercer and wife Ashley, Toby Wilson, and Erin Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Taygan Don Wilson and Gabryel Wolf Mercer; three nieces, Jane Anne Clark and husband Curtis, Jimmie Louise LeHew and husband Mike, and Karen Shaffer, and one nephew, Gary Suttle. Extended family and many friends also survive him.

Coy was preceded in death by his father, Coy Wilton Suttle, Sr.; his mother, Ruth Marie Suttle; one son-in-law, Dennis Mercer; his mother-in-law, Anna Story Gentry; a brother-in-law, James Gentry, and one sister-in-law, Mary Louise Wilson Gentry.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030-3701. For more information, the telephone number is 713-797-1616.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 1, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Coy Suttle will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. The Altus Masonic Lodge #62 will conduct masonic Rites.

Mary Helen Sutton

Mary Helen Sutton, age 89, former Jackson County Treasurer passed away in Roseville, California on Thursday, September 15, 2005.

Mary Helen was born in Trenton, Texas on June 14, 1916 to James M. and Ethel (Legg) Abbott.

A member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, Mary Helen also enjoyed being a member of the Porcelain Artists of America as well as being very active in the Democratic Party of Jackson County.

Mary Helen will be remembered by many for serving as Jackson County Treasurer for thirty-five years, retiring in 1985.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Yvonne, and two husbands, Hadley Thomson and T.P. Sutton.

She is survived by one son, James David Thomson and wife Lura of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; two grandsons, David Earl Thomson and wife Gabriela of Waco, Texas and Sean Thomson and wife Dayla of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; one granddaughter, Marianna Shelton and husband Todd of Spring, Texas; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Aletha Branton of Leland, Mississippi, Evelyn Hunt of Pleasanton, California and Bertha Williams and husband R.L. of Beauchene, Louisiana along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mary Helen Sutton will be on Monday, September 26, 2005 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Vernon, Texas.

There will be a visitation for friends wishing to see Mary Helen’s Family, on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made in Mary Helen Sutton’s name to the Salvation Army’s Hurricane Relief Effort.

Thomas Edward Swaffar

Thomas Edward Swaffar, age 69 of Blair, Oklahoma passed away Monday, May 23, 2005 at Jackson County
Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 27, 1935, in Altus, Oklahoma to Thomas Jefferson Swaffar and Beatrice (Banks) Swaffar.

On December 7, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ed entered the United States Air Force. He served his country in Vietnam, received the National Defense Service Medal. Ed retired from the United States Air Force May 31, 1975 as a Master Sergeant.

On March 25, 1983, Ed and Betty Conn were united in marriage.

Ed worked for the City of Altus in the Sign and Maintenance shop for over 14 years. He loved hunting, horses, fishing, skeet shooting and being in the outdoors. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Blair.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grand parents.

Ed is survived by his wife, Betty (Conn) Swaffar of the home, three sons, Victor Thomas Swaffar and wife Dody of Kings Bay, GA, Michael John Swaffar and wife Nancy of Byron, GA. and Patrick Edward Swaffar and wife Teena of Warner Robbins, GA.; one step-daughter, Tina Marie Ishcomer and husband Melvin “Chief” of Eldorado, Oklahoma and one step-son, Mark Anthony Medford and wife Francie of Blair, Oklahoma; one sister Kay Swaffar of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 10:00 am at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Lumpton officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery with full Military honors.

The family will greet guests Friday, May 27, 2005 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Mary Elizabeth Swoboda

Mary Elizabeth Swoboda, age 50, passed away Tuesday, June 06, 2006, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

She was born in Fremont, Nebraska on July 7, 1955, to Leon and Julaine (Boothe) Hammond.

Mary married Jeff Swoboda on July 5, 1985, in Omaha, Nebraska.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband Jeff Swoboda of the home, mother, Julaine Hammond of Fremont, Nebraska, five children, Jacob Swoboda, Roger Swoboda both of Fremont, Nebraska, William Swoboda, Nellie Swoboda and Julaine Swoboda all of Altus, Oklahoma. She is also survived by two sisters, Jamie Cassidy of Hooper, Nebraska and Nicole Peacock of Nebraska, two grandchildren, Ja’nelle and Jadean.

She is preceded in death by her father, three grandparents and one brother, Christian Hammond.

Prayer Vigil will be Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 7:00pm at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 9, 2006 at 11:00am at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Joe
Arledge officiating under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
