Mary E. Dobbs

Mary E. Dobbs, age 50, passed away Friday, February 8, 2008, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born to C.R.(Red) and Pauline Mills on December 13, 1957, in Altus, Ok. Mary was raised in Gould, Ok. and graduated from Gould High School in 1976. She attended Western Oklahoma State College.

Mary married Charles Dobbs June 4, 1988, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked at Dobbs & Brinkman as an insurance agent, and also as a legal secretary for many years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, and caring for her plants and flowers.

Mary is survived by her husband of the home, Charles; two daughters; Bailey Dobbs of Altus Oklahoma, Mary Beth Tischler and husband Robert of Altus Oklahoma, one grandchild Foster Tischler of Altus, Oklahoma. One sister; Marion Sue Sexton of Gould Oklahoma; two brothers; Randy Mills and wife Linda, of Hollis, Oklahoma, Bruce Mills and wife Melinda of Hollis, Oklahoma,; two nieces Danya Mills, and Mary Jane Barnes; and two nephews JR Mills, and Jeremy Mills.

Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents and one nephew.

Funeral Services for Mary E. Dobbs are scheduled for Monday, February 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Jeremy Mills officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family of Mary E. Dobbs will greet friends Sunday evening February 10, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in memory of Mary E. Dobbs.

Bettty Sue McElroy

Betty Sue McElroy, age 77 of Altus, Oklahoma passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She was born October 3, 1930 in Altus, Oklahoma to Lillian Ruth (Holloway) Spears and W.T. Spears. Betty was a graduate of Altus High School and later attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

Betty was a very dedicated OU Sports Fan. When she wasn’t watching sports she enjoyed playing cards and loved reading books. She was a longtime member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Altus.

Betty is survived by three children; Carol McElroy of Altus, Oklahoma, Monty McElroy of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mary McElroy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She is also survived by two granddaughters Katy Allen and husband Sean of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lisa McElroy of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services for Betty Sue McElroy are scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. Mike Trachman officiating. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home

The family of Betty McElroy will greet friends Thursday evening January 3, 2007, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research or to the charity of your choice in memory of Betty Sue McElroy.

Imogene “Ima” (Bradshaw) Pitts

Imogene “Ima” (Bradshaw) Pitts, age 88, a longtime resident of Altus, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2008 in Altus.

Ima was born in Vinson, Oklahoma on September 9, 1919 to Lem and Mellion Bradshaw.

On September 9, 1939 she married Alvin A. Pitts in Synder, Oklahoma and they were married over 66 years before Alvin’s death in 2006.

She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Altus and taught beginner Sunday School for many years.

Ima worked as the head cook at Washington Elementary School in Altus.

Ima enjoyed playing the pianio and would play at church and even continued playing at the Plantation Village Nursing Home when she and her husband moved there.

Ima and Alvin also enjoyed serving as State Resort Camp Hosts at many resorts around Western Oklahoma.

Imogene loved her church and her family and will be missed very much.

Preceding Ima in death were her husband Alvin A. Pitts; her parents, Lem and Mellion Pitts; one brother, Lloyd Bradshaw; one sister, Florene Swartz; and one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Pitts.

Ima is survived by one son Ronnie Pitts of Altus; one grandson, Kevin Pitts of Frederick; and special friends, Mae Morehead and her daughters, Danette Evans and Vickie Henry; and other relatives and many friends.

Services for Ima will be Monday, January 7, 2008 at 2:00 pm, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Brother Synott Matthews and Reverend Gregory Hawn officiating.

Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Jeffrey Scott Ray

Jeffrey Scott Ray, 34, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Altus, passed from this life on Friday, March 20, 2009, as the result of a car accident.

Jeff was born on August 12, 1974, to Billy and Cindy (Mackey) Ray in Altus, Oklahoma.

He graduated from Altus High School in 1993.

He later attended City College in Moore, Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in Computer Technology in 2002.

Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pete and Wilma Mackey and his paternal grandmother, Ellen Ray, Jeff is survived by his parents, Billy and Cindy Ray of Altus; his two sons, Damien Ray and William Ray, also of Altus; one sister, Joelle Dickenson; a nephew, Gage Dickenson; his paternal grandfather, William C. Ray, all of Altus; and a very special love in his life, Cheri Stanfield of Moore, Oklahoma.

His extended family includes Jimmy Suba, Gregg Henngler, Tim Sanchez, Bucky Hunter, and Johnny Lopez.

The mother of his children, Elizabeth Revilla, also survives Jeff.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.

Funeral Services for Jeff Ray will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with The Reverend Suzanne Mollison officiating.

Lou Ann Shorney

Lou Ann Shorney was born April 21, 1932 in Jackson County near Friendship, Oklahoma.

She entered into rest July 26, 2009 in Altus, Oklahoma.

She was the daughter of the late Henry Wiginton and Lou Baker.

She attended and graduated from Altus High School in 1950.

She married Sonny Tims and, to this union, three children were born: Terry, Pam, and Timmy Tims. She worked for Tims Funeral Home for 20 years.

Upon leaving Altus, Lou Ann moved to Norman, Oklahoma where the University of Oklahoma employed her as the Executive Basketball Secretary.

She served the University under the coaching of Dave Bliss and Billy Tubbs.

She retired from the University of Oklahoma after thirtreen years of service.

While in Norman, she met and married Bob Shorney in 1980.

She and Bob were members of the University of Oklahoma Tip In Club and endlessly supported the Sooners.

Following the death of her husband Bob, she moved back to Altus to be close to her grandchildren.

She followed every activity in which her grandchildren participated.

Western Oklahoma State College then employed her in the Athletic Department where all the students extended her youth, and the faculty became like family.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, loved playing Bingo, and adored her three grandchildren.

Lou Ann was preceded in death by her husband Bob Shorney, Father and Mother, Lou and Henry Wiginton, brother Dow Wiginton, and Sister Earlene Wiginton.

Survivors include: Terry Tims and wife Barbara of Altus, Pam Tims of Oklahoma City, Timmy Tims and wife Amber of Altus.

Three grandchildren: Tyler Tims and wife Kara of Altus, Taylor Camp and husband Al of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Evan Tims of Altus. Also survived are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A person who loved without judgment, supported without question, and encouraged with the fullest of grace, Lou Ann embodied these things.

To know Lou Ann was to know true joy and unconditional love.

With each encounter a person understood what real love was.

And, with ‘Real [love], you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.’ (Velveteen Rabbit)

The lives of those who knew her are greater having experienced her great love and compassion.

Services for Lou Ann Shorney will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend David Player and Reverend Keith Wiginton officiating.

Interment will be in the Altus Cemetery.

The family of Lou Ann Shorney will greet friends Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Memorials in honor of Lou Ann may be made to the First United Methodist Church building fund or Western Oklahoma State College or the charity of your choice.

Aubrey Dennis

Aubrey Dan Dennis, born September 10, 1930 in Blair, Oklahoma, son of Osie F. and Oma Velda Dennis, died June 25, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.

Mr. Dennis graduated from Norman High School and attended the University of Oklahoma where he joined the United States Navy in July 1952.

He started as a yeoman on a navy ship and transitioned to Naval Cadet Training where he received his navy wings and his naval commission as a naval officer in 1954.

His first duty station was VS-30 in Norfolk, Virginia in 1954 where he flew anti-submarine aircraft.

In 1955, he joined VR-31 in Norfolk as Lieutenant, Junior Grade and a carry-on delivery pilot.

He met his wife, Sallie Kay Tebo, in Norfolk and they married on June 8, 1958.

In 1958, he was stationed in Naples, Italy with VR-24 flying on and off aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean.

In 1960, he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida as a flight instructor where he molded the skills of young navy pilots.

In 1964, he was stationed again in Naples, Italy with VR-24 as a senior officer where he delivered critical ammunition and supplies to all aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean.

In 1966, he was transferred to Kingsville, Texas with VT-22 where he trained young fighter pilots in advanced aerial tactics.

In 1968, he was transferred to VRC-50 in Atsugi, Japan where he flew in combat missions over Viet Nam for two years before he was shot down and severely injured.

In 1970, he was transferred to the Naval Aviation Training Command in Memphis, Tennessee where he continued to fly and was the officer in charge.

In May 1972, he retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and moved back to Blair, Oklahoma.

He has been raising cattle and farming on his Flying D Ranch for the last 37 years.

Mr. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sallie Kay, and their four children: Audie Dennis, Donna Duff, Tommy Dennis, and Kimberly Hill, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral Services for Aubrey Dan Dennis will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Blair with Reverend Tommy Dennis officiating.

Interment will follow at Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
