EDITH “LOIS” (COPELAND) SORRELS

Funeral services for Edith “Lois” (Copeland) Sorrels, 81, of Tuttle were held Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, 10:30 a.m. at Airport Assembly of God in Oklahoma City, with Rev. Kenneth Stafford officiating and Rev. Ladonna Grissom, eulogy. Committal services were Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. at the Marlow Cemetery, Marlow, OK, under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow, OK. Pallbearers were Larry Britton, Robert Rumbaugh, Dustin Sorrels, Jim Rumbaugh, and Ed Chavis.

Edith Sorrels was born November 5, 1923, in Cotton County, OK, to Joseph Watson Copeland and Bernettia (South) Copeland, and died Friday, December 17, 2004, in Tuttle, OK. Lois attended school in Temple, OK. She married Donald Edward Sorrels, Sr. on May 1, 1981, in Marlow, OK. Edith had lived in Oklahoma City and Duncan before moving to Tuttle in 1989. She retired from T.G. & Y. at North May and Brittain Road in OKC in the receiving department as a processor after 20 years of service. Edith enjoyed cake decorating, yard work, rock collecting and decorating for Christmas. She like playing the guitar and singing gospel songs. Edith was a very active member of the Airport Assembly of God Church for 42 years, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Choir Director and assistant Sunday School Secretary. She loved spending time with her family and church family.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Watson Copeland and Bernettia (South) Copeland; son, Terry Vowell; four sisters: Vera Copeland, Tinia Lou Copeland, Nina Lou Copeland, Juanita Kiddy; six brothers: Carroll Copeland, Joseph W. Copeland, Jr., Oral Copeland, Oliver Copeland, Haskell Copeland, Mancel Copeland; grandson, Craig Taylor; granddaughter, Jonna M. Sparks.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Edward Sorrels, Sr., of the home; three sons: Donald Sorrels, Jr. and wife Brenda, of Marlow, OK, Alvin Sorrels and wife Sondra, of Sugarland, TX, Richard Sorrels and wife Billie, of Marlow, OK; three daughters: Loretta Chavis and husband Ed, of Burkburnett, TX, Janet Rumbaugh and husband Jim, of Tuttle, OK, Nancy Sparks and husband Roger, of Marlow, OK; two brothers: Jerry Copeland and wife Alexia, of Ardmore, OK, Kenneth Copeland and wife Minnie, of Durant, OK, two sisters: Era Vantine, of Marlow, OK, Lavonna Rush and husband Charlie, of Elmore City, OK. She has 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.

CLARIECE LYN MILLS

Clariece Lyn Mills was born January 3, 1948 at Anadarko, OK to C.C. and Margaret “Roxie” (Shook) Phelps. She passed away Saturday, November 27, 2004 at her home in Cogar, OK, at the age of 56. Clariece graduated from Binger High School and attended Draughan’s Business College. She was united in marriage to Ray Mills on December 22, 1966 at Oklahoma City, OK. Clariece lived in the Cogar area most of her life. She was a member of the Hub City Square Dance Club. She was President elect of the 2005 Oklahoma State Square Dance Federation, member of the Canaan Baptist Church, where she taught pre-school for a number of years. Clariece made and marketed lye soap for several years. She worked for five years as Habilitation Training Specialist in Anadarko, OK. Clariece enjoyed being with her family and friends. Square dancing was her hobby and kept her going through out her illness.

Survivors include: her husband: Ray Mills, of the home, Cogar, OK; two children: Dena Scott and husband Mark of Stillwater, OK, Carson Mills of El Reno, OK; three grandchildren: Ryan and Nick Mills of El Reno, OK and Jacob Scott of Stillwater, OK; two brothers: Jesse Phelps of Cogar, OK and Edward Phelps of Midwest City, OK; two sisters: Dorothy Kerlick of Cogar, OK and Idella Kline of South Carolina, and her square dance family.

Clariece was preceded in death by her parents: C.C. and Roxie Phelps, three brothers: Joe, Charles and Athel Phelps.

Services will be Wednesday, December 1, 2004, 1:30 p.m. at the Binger Church of God in Binger, OK with Rev. Curtis Robertson officiating. Burial in Niles Cemetery, Hinton, OK, under the direction of the Turner Funeral Home, Binger, OK.

OPAL ROXIE YODER

Funeral services for Opal Roxie Yoder, 93 of Minco were held Saturday, November 27, 2004, 2 pm at the Minco First Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Scott of the church officiating.

Opal Roxie Yoder was born February 4, 1911 at Verden to Grover and Mary Lee (Hensley) McBride and died Tuesday, November 23 at El Reno.

She lived most of her life in the Minco community and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Minco and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She married Fred D. Yoder on April 7, 1931 at Chickasha.

Opal was preceded in death by parents: Grover and Mary Lee McBride; husband: Fred Donnie Yoder on August 28, 1990; and four brothers: Woodrow, Arthur, Elmer, and O.B. McBride.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Norma and J.T. Adams of Minco; one sister and brother-in-law: Dorothy and John Perry of Hobbs, New Mexico; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Burial at Evergreen Cemetery of Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home in Minco.

THELMA CAROLINE MARLOW

Funeral service for Thelma Caroline Marlow, 91, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, was held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Tuttle.

Thelma Caroline Marlow was born in Tillman County, May 29, 1913, at Frederick, Oklahoma, to Adam Joel and Mary (Agee) Stevens, and died November 4, 2004, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of 19 children.

Around 1918, the family moved to Tuttle, Oklahoma. Thelma began playing the piano at 5 years of age and played for church the first time at 9 years old. She was born with a God-given musical ability and by the time she was a teenager her gifts blessed many people. She played for silent movies shown in the Tuttle theatre which is now the Opera House building.

She has been an accompanist for Tuttle Baptist Church, playing organ or piano for 72 years. She played for many community events such as the Tuttle fair.

Thelma was married to Troy Marlow on November 29, 1932. To this union 4 children were born.

In 1960 she had the distinction of being the first woman to ever work for the Oklahoma Air National Guard. She was a faithful employee for 27 years and as she would say, “talk all over the world everyday.” She loved her job and the Oklahoma Air National Guard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy, in 1988, her parents, 1 granddaughter, Amy Marlow, and 15 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include: 4 children: Troy C. Marlow, of Oklahoma City, Judy Marlow, of Tuttle, Mary Henson, of Tuttle, Carolyn Osborn, of Tualatin, Oregon; 21 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Jack Stevens, of Frederick, Oklahoma; 2 sisters: Leata Stuart, of Brownville, Texas, Alma Sturdevant, of Sun City, California.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tuttle Care Center in memory of Thelma Marlow, for equipment and supplies for residents.

RAY PEARMAN

Ray Pearman, 66 of Tuttle, passed away Wednesday Oct. 20, 2004 in Oklahoma City.

Born Feb. 9, l938 in McAlester, Okla. to Oscar Denson Pearman and Susie J. Anderson-Pearman, he grew up in the Cooper community in Pittsburg County, where he attended grade school later graduating from Savanna High School in 1957.

Upon graduation from high school he moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for Standard Roofing until taking a job with Western Electric, retiring in 1991 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting or just about anything outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Viola Turner and brother O.D. Pearman.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara (Bobbie) of the home, son Rick and wife Nancy Pearman of Dibble; daughter Debra (Pete) Kammerlocher and husband Paul of Tuttle; five grandchildren, Jeremiah Pearman of Tuttle, Cody Pearman of Watauga, Texas, Andrew, Nicole and Amber Kammerlocher of Tuttle. Sisters Flora Cable of McAlester, Okla., Ruth Williams of Spencer, Okla., Helen Ramsey of Oklahoma City. Brothers W.S. “Bill” Pearman of Midwest City, Okla., Bud Pearman of Jones, Okla., Melvin Pearman, Helena, Okla. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends to numerous to mention.

The Pearman family has been living in the Tuttle area since 1968. Ray was a big fan of the Tuttle Tigers and never missed a chance to point out he was from the hometown of Jason White.

His favorite pastime was centered on family activities and friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ray never met a stranger, was always willing to lend a hand and would always give you advice whether you wanted it or not.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 in the chapel of the Smith-Turner Mortuary, Yukon, Okla. with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Oklahoma City.

Pallbearers were Jeremiah Pearman, Don Embrey, C.T. Tennery, Cecil Cable, Jim Mouser and G.R. Hightower.

Honorary Pallbearers were Ernie Crosswhite, Lonnie Johnston and Bill Pearman.

JUNE (MITCHUM) MARROW

June (Mitchum) Marrow went home to be with the Lord November 19, 2004 in the presence of the family she cherished.

She was born May 14, 1937 in Minco, Oklahoma. She attended grade school at Parrish Hill in Minco and then graduated from Minco High School.

She attended OBU and USAO formerly OCW. She married Gene Marrow, September 03, 1957. They lived in Oklahoma City, Mustang, Carnegie, and Elk City before retiring in Hinton in 1994. Prior to her retirement she spent many hours assisting her husband in managing their boat dealership, Gene’s Fin and Feather Marine in Elk City.

She filled her life with the activities of her family. She loved watching her grandson play baseball, fishing with her grandsons, and cooking and sewing with her granddaughters.

By her words and actions she was a great encourager to everyone she met. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Alice Mitchum and grandson Angelo Marrow.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Marrow of the home; son, Ezra Marrow and wife Briana of Loveland, Colorado; daughter Melisa Zimmerman and husband Steven of Lookeba, OK; son Mike Marrow of Ft. Collins, Colorado, nine grandchildren, five sisters: Jean Raney and husband Bob of Overton, Nebraska, Jane Garrett of Tuttle, OK, Vivian Morrison of Norman, OK, Betty Kinder and husband Kenneth of Minco, OK, Martha Graham of Moore, OK; two brothers, Charles Mitchum of Midwest City, OK, Troy Mitchum and wife Dortha, of Dibble, OK and a large and treasured extended family.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church, Monday November 22, 2004, 2:00 pm at Hinton, Oklahoma with Rev. Scott Hamilton officiating.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery Minco, OK under the direction of Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in Hinton, Oklahoma.

Family request Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.

ROSGENA “ROSE” MOCKLER

Rosgena “Rose” Mockler was born on Oct. 26, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio, and passed away on Oct. 12, 2004, in Carrollton, Texas.

A resident of the Dallas area since 1984, Rose was a member of the Arboretum and held season tickets to the Dallas Symphony for the past several years.

Rose is survived by her husband, Patrick Mockler; son, Bradley Longcrier; son, Zackery Mockler; parents, Jay and Sarah Ostler; seven sisters, Sally Morwood, Rachel Fullmer, Rebekah Blackburn, Verna Greenwell, Camille Thompson, Mary Ostler, and Julie Rocque; brothers, Jay and Douglas Ostler.

The family received friends on Thursday, Oct. 14, from 6-8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home.

Services were on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at 9:30 a.m. at Restland Wildwood Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Kormen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.

MENDEL GENE CUNNINGHAM

Graveside services for Mendel Gene Cunningham, 68, of Tuttle, was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle.

Mendel Gene Cunningham was born May 24, 1936 in Frederick, Oklahoma the son of Albert and Matilda (Zeller) Cunningham and died Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at his home in Tuttle.

Mr. Cunningham grew up in Frederick, Oklahoma. He moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he attended school to become a heavy equipment operator. After completion of school, he worked in Grand Island, Nebraska for a year then returned to Oklahoma City and started his family. He worked for CMI and various road construction companies. Mr. Cunningham helped design the asphalt chipping machine at CMI. He had also worked on the crew that built the H.C. Bailey Turnpike among other projects. Mr. Cunningham moved to Tuttle in 1976 where he continued to work with heavy equipment and equipment repair along with some farming and welding.

After retiring in 1985, he enjoyed tending his guineas and enjoyed his family and great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by: Parents: Albert and Matilda Cunningham two brothers: Albert and Cecil Cunningham; two sisters: Marie Cunningham and Lillie Crenshaw.

Survivors include: one son: Jeff Cunningham of Tuttle; one daughter: Sheila Hibdon of Tuttle; one grandson and his wife: Michael James and Laurie Hibdon of Oklahoma City; one granddaughter: Kari Hibdon of Tuttle; two great grandsons: Brennen James Hibdon and Jacob Alexander Hibdon of Tuttle; one sister: Louise Gilcrest of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one sister-in-law Barbara Cunningham of Tyler, Texas; former wife: Irene Gourley of Tuttle; nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

LOYLE CLEBURN BANTA

Funeral services for Loyle Cleburn Banta, 82, of Tuttle, Oklahoma were held at 10:00 am, Monday, February 7, 2005 at the Tuttle Church of Christ.

Loyle Cleburn Banta was born March 2, 1922 in St. Louis, Oklahoma the son of Dell and Vivian (Flatt) Banta and died February 3, 2005 in Tuttle, Oklahoma.

He moved to Tuttle in 1929. Mr. Banta joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and fought during World War II in the Pacific and was overseas for four years. In 1947 he married Mary Ann McDaniel of Minco. They had two children. He farmed and worked at Tinker Air Force Base and retired in 1964. He and his wife ran a dairy drive-in and sold milk in the Tuttle area. He also drove a bus for Tuttle Schools. Mr. Banta was a member of the Tuttle Church of Christ. He loved to play dominoes and travel to Lake Texhoma. He was also an avid Tuttle Tiger and OU football fan.

Mr. Banta was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Doyle and Gerald Banta; brother-in-law: Charlie Morris

Survivors include: Wife: Mary Ann Banta of the home; one son: Rick Banta and wife Connie of Tuttle, OK; one daughter: Lisa Pendleton and husband Larry of Shawnee, OK; two sisters: Thelma Morris of Snyder, OK, Linda Beth Weimer and husband Phil of Corvallis, OR; Grandchildren: Jaree Spurlock and husband Lance of Kingston, OK, Kristy Humphrey of Bethany, OK, Keely Humphrey of Moore, OK, Rusty Humphrey of Stillwater, OK, Sharie Banta of Edmond, OK; Great Grandson: Jalen Wicks of Bethany, OK; various nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Tuttle.

NORA BELL PUTMAN

Services for Nora Bell Putman, 84 of Minco were held Tuesday, February 15, 2005, 2 PM at the First Assembly of God Church in Minco with Rev. Wes Warren of the First Assembly of God Church in Minco officiating.

Nora Bell Putman was born May 3, 1920 in Welty, Oklahoma to Oscar Lee and Molly Bell (May) Craig and died Friday, February 11, 2005 at Chickasha.

Nora lived in the Minco community since 1920 and married Tuskey H. Putman on March 24, 1947 at El Reno. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Minco.

She was preceded in death by: Parents: Oscar and Molly Craig; Husband Tuskey H. Putman 11-11-97; one son: Billy Joe “Jody” Putman 1-12-99; one daughter: O’Bera Oleta Sinclair 1-28-95; her twin sister: Cora Lee Moore; three brothers: John Wesley Craig, Robert Craig, and Harold Craig.

Nora is survived by: two sons: Jimmy Dale Kirkland of Minco, Jackie McInturff of Minco; one brother: Howard Craig of Mustang; three sisters: Mary “Ruth” Ballard of Kansas City, Kansas, Bonnie Boughman of Chickasha, Ninnie Lou Hiles of Oklahoma City; one granddaughter: Roseanne and Wes Schoolfield of Chickasha; three great granddaughters: Ashley and April Henson and Andy Schoolfield.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home in Minco.
