Margaret Louise (Meg) Long
Margaret Louise (Meg) Long, 61, of
Norman, Oklahoma, lost her fourteen year
battle with breast cancer on January 8, 2004.
Family will greet family and friends from 6:00
- 9:00 P.M. on Monday, January 12, 2004 at
Havenbroook Funeral Home. Funeral Services
will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January
13, 2004 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church,
1601 Imhoff, Norman, Oklahoma with The
Rev. Dr. A. Richard Bullock, retired, Portland,
Oregon, officiating.
Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery
in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Meg was born on April 11, 1942 to Mary Grace (Barnard) and
Frederick Lincoln Manser in Mishawaka, Indiana. Meg spent most of
her life in service to the public. She first joined the Assistance League
of Norman, rising through the ranks to become President of the
Norman Chapter. Her special passion was Operation School Bell.
In 1989, she contracted breast cancer. In her fight against cancer, she
found her real purpose in life. She served as an officer first of the
Norman Chapter and later as a member of the Regional Board of the
American Cancer Society. But her greatest contribution was the hours
she spent making speeches at cancer events as well as counseling
newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. More recently, she served on
the cancer Independent Review Board of the University of Oklahoma
Heath Sciences Center.
Meg is survived by a husband Joseph C. Long, two sons,
Frederick (Rick) Howard Long, of Richmond, Virginia, and his wife
Susan and James (Jim) Edward Long and his wife, Kathryn of
Orlando, Florida.; and two grand-daughters, Nicole and Alexis Long.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to
either American Cancer Society, Norman Chapter or The Assistance
League of Norman.

Mary Lea Martin
Mary Lea Martin, age 98, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Sunday, February
1, 2004 in Norman, Oklahoma. Funeral
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M.,
Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in
Norman with Mr. Rusty Tugman officiating.
Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F.
Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Veal, Rick Veal,
Dean Veal, Marshall Veal, Ted Miller, Jason
Miller, Mike Ringer, Brian Ringer and Jeff
Ringer. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Martin was born August 10, 1905 in Norman, Indian
Territory, Oklahoma to Andrew J. and Nancy Jane (Vaughn) Potts.
She grew up and attended schools in Norman. She married Joe
Martin in 1923 at his mother’s home in Norman. He preceded her in
death in October 1979. Together they lived and raised their children
in Norman. She was a member of Alameda Church of Christ and was
involved in many of the church activities. Mary enjoyed a number of
hobbies including sewing, baking and quilting.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Joe; two daughters, Norma Veal and her husband, Jack, and Helen
Martin; son, Bob Martin, great-granddaughter, Katie Marie Veal; four
sisters, Ruth Pounds, Jessie Hewitt, Fay Hewitt, Jewell Sawyer; and
two brothers, John Potts and Charlie Potts. Survivors include
grandsons, Wayne Veal and wife, Tracey of Norman, OK, Rick Veal
and wife, Joan of Edmond, OK, Dean Veal and wife, Tonia of
Blanchard, OK and Mike Ringer of Norman, OK; and
granddaughters, Karol Ringer of Norman, OK and Terry Miller and
husband, Ted of Arnett, Ok; thirteen great grandchildren and five
great great grandchildren.

Mary Frances “Willie” West
Mary Frances “Willie” West, 77, of Norman, Oklahoma left
us on Saturday evening, January 17, 2004, and is now present with
the Lord. Services for Mary Frances “Willie” West will be held at
1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 21, 2004, at the First Christian Church
in Norman with Reverend David Spain officiating. Interment will
follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Charles Sarratt, Vic Hayes, Tom Hoisington, John
West, Neil West and Jim Hayes. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Willie was born May 28, 1926, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The
only daughter of Clyde and Mary Perretta Willis, Willie spent her
childhood in Ardmore and Lawton, graduating from Lawton High
School in 1944. Willie went on to spend two years at the Oklahoma
College for Women in Chickasha, (now USAO), then transferred to
the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated in 1948 with a BA
in Music. While attending OU, Willie met Stanley B. West, and they
married on August 14, 1948. Willie and Stan lived in several parts of
the United States, including Minnesota and California, before
returning to live in Norman in 1965. Willie used her musical talents
to teach others to play the piano, and her love of music was a constant
in her life. Willie and Stan raised two sons, Tom West and Ted West.
Willie was a USAO Alumni Association Executive Board
Director, and a member of the First Christian Church of Norman. She
was also active in other organizations, including the Friendship
Garden Club, the ExLibris Book Club and the Library Book Club.
Willie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and
was a very good friend to many. She loved to quilt, tat, knit and
crochet, to tend her garden, and to take care of her family.
Willie is survived by her husband, Stan; son, Tom West and wife,
Jeanne, and their children, Kate and Stan West II, from Wayne, PA;
son Ted West and wife, Jane, and their children, Ryanne, Lauren and
Blaine, all from Oklahoma City.
She was a rock; the glue that held it all in place, and now we must
mend the break as best we can until we join her in heaven. She will
be sorely missed and always loved and remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a
memorial donation to the Mary Frances West Scholarship Fund at USAO.

Betty Lou Zeni
Betty Lou Zeni, 74, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Saturday,
January 17th 2004 in Norman, Oklahoma. Memorial Services will be
held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 20th at Havenbrook Chapel with
Chaplain officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook
Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
She was born September 1, 1929, in Beaver Dam Wisconsin to
Emma and Walter Kelm. She was raised in a family with four brothers
and eight sisters. She married Milton Zeni on May 22, 1948, in
Madison, Wisconsin. Milton and Betty lived in Wisconsin, Nevada,
Utah, California, Oklahoma, and Colorado. In 1977 she and Milton
returned to Oklahoma, first moving to Edmond and then to Norman in
1994, to be near their daughters. Betty loved being a homemaker and
raising her children. She felt very fortunate that she and Milton were
able to travel extensively around the world before her health began to
fail and Milton was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. She enjoyed
living at Arbor House for the past three years and made many friends
with the residents and staff members. Betty was a strong woman who
fought valiantly against poor health for many years.
Betty is survived by her husband Milton; a son, Thomas and his
wife, Lauris, of Williamsburg, Virginia; two daughters. Laurie Wynn
and Susan Pickett of Norman; four sisters, Laura Grunberg, Gladys
Ibishch, Imogene Grotenhuis and Alice Pagels, all of Wisconsin; five
grandchildren, JR Stalcup and wife, Kimberly, of Naples, Florida,
Brenden Zeni, of Williamsburg, Virginia, Ashley Zeni, of College
Station Texas, and Justin and Brooke Pickett, of Norman
In lieu of flowers, the families suggest donations be made to
either the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Milton, or the American
Heart Association.
