James E. Pewett

James E. Pewett, 63, Altus, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2006 at Kincannon’s Memorial Chapel with Oliver White officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born on December 1, 1942 in Nashville, Tennessee to Bart and Annie (Brown) Pewett. He had completed computer training and received certification as a computer technician at Southwest Vo-Tech Center in Altus. He was a non-denominational ordained minister. He married Lucille Gomez on April 30, 2004 in Mangum, Oklahoma. He enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Gene Pewett. He is survived by his wife Lucille of Altus; four daughters, Misty and husband William Teems; Sabrina and husband Tom Martin; Dema and husband Kevin Shrek, all of Lake Butler, Florida; Sherri and husband Bud Hawle of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons, Jason Pewett and Virgil Wells, both of Altus; Mason Pewett of Cincinnati, Ohio; four brothers, Danny, Bobby, Sammy, and Larry; three sisters, Debbie, Gail, and Susie; 14 grandchildren, Dario, Caleb, Cameron, Melinda, Karlyn, Bubba, Frankie, Trish, Morgan, Timothy, Misty, Clayton, James, and Ashley; as well as many friends.

Laura Louise Pierre

Laura Louise Pierre was born on March 19, 1947 to John and Rosezene (Brown) Pruitt, in Altus, OK. Both her parents preceded her in death. Laura was the first of ten children born to Rosezene. She attended Lincoln School in Altus. After leaving her hometown of Altus, OK Laura enjoyed traveling around the United States until she settled in Kansas City, Kansas. There she earned an Associate’s Degree in Social Services through Kansas City Community College. Later in life Laura was led to Christ, saved, and began to provide care for and elderly man, William Campbell of Long Beach, CA who quickly became a very dear friend.

Laura was full of life, love and laughter and was determined and willing to share it with anyone she knew. Through the memories and stories she left behind, she will be eternally loved and truly missed.

Laura Louise Pierre celebrated her homecoming on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the age of 60 years old while attending church services. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her two children, Aubrey “Harold” Pierre of Blythe, CA and Sherry Shera Pierre of Houston, TX; five sisters, Nadine Brown of Altus, OK, Judy Vann and her husband Richard of Tulsa, OK, Darlene Johnson of Dallas, TX, Betty Gibson and her husband Stanley of Altus, OK, and Rose Alexander of Austin, TX; four brothers, Deporter Johnson, JR. of Kansas City, MO, Andrew “Carl” Johnson of Moore, OK, Michael Johnson of Lawton, OK, and Dennis Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren, Patrick, Brent, Kenneth and Sable Robinson and Hakeem Pierre, six great grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held in Long Beach, California at her home church, Greater Love Deliverance. A private family memorial may be held by the family in Altus at a later date. In memory of Laura, loved one’s will light a candle, individually, at their homes, at 6:00 pm central time on Friday, March 7, 2008. Arrangements have been provided by Kincannon Funeral Home.

Evelyn Geneva Mathis Pike

Evelyn Geneva Mathis Pike, 81, Altus, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at English Village Nursing Home. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Altus City Cemetery with Jeff Moore officiating. Services under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Evelyn was born to Alvin and Bessie (Van Horn) Howard March 5, 1926 in Burkburnett, Texas. She graduated from Altus High School in 1943. She married Paul Mathis in 1944, and they had one son, Larry Mathis. She lived most of her life in California and Oklahoma. She later married James Pike of Altus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Paul Mathis in 1986; her son, Larry in 1990; two brothers, Alvin Howard, Jr., Harvey Howard; two sisters, Marian Warden, Helen Brown; and her second husband, James Pike in 2006.

Evelyn is survived by one sister, Betty Kirby of Altus, OK; one step-daughter, Diane Hall and husband Gary of Altus, OK, one step-son, Steve Pike and wife Sharon of Tipton, OK; nieces; Kathy Brown of Lawton, OK., Linda Paramore of Ft. Worth, TX. and Melba Bales and Brenda Howeth, of Altus, OK. and nephew; Gary Warden of Oklahoma City, OK.

James W. Pike

James W. Pike, 83, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in Altus, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating and Rod Smith singing. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born on May 28, 1922 in Snyder, Oklahoma to William F. and Rosa (Southern) Pike. He attended grade school and junior high in Snyder and finished high school in Altus following WWII. He entered the Army National Guard at an early age and later joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Imogene Marshall on November 1, 1946 in Altus, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1996. He married Evelyn Mathis in February of 1998. Mr. Pike worked in a typewriter shop in Clinton, Oklahoma following his military service. He then owned and operated Pike’s Drive In Restaurant in Thomas, Oklahoma. He sold advertising for the Newton Company in Southwest Oklahoma for several years. He bought George’s Sandwich Shop on South Hudson in Altus in 1972 and changed the name to Pike’s Sandwich Shop. He moved the shop to the old Bunker Hill United and sold the shop in 1982. He then worked for the Altus Medical Clinic for several years. He was a host for the Southwest Transit bus service until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton, Oklahoma. He had also been a member of the Clinton Rotary Club and was very active in the Boy Scout organization. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, collecting barbed wire and going to garage sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Imogene; twin sons John and James; four brothers, Charlie, twins Clyde and Claude, and Archie; three sisters, Vivian Reser, Edna Coffelt and Audrey Castle. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of English Village Manor; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Gary Hall of Altus; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Sharon Pike of Tipton, Oklahoma; sister Arleta Cochrane of Fresno, California; two grandchildren, James Hall of Altus; Daphane Smalts and husband Chris of Altus; three great grandchildren and many friends. The Pike Family will greet friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.

Christopher David Pitts

Christopher David Pitts, 6 months, of Altus, died Monday, June 23 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 28 at Kincannon Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Christopher David Pitts was born December 11, 2007 in Oklahoma City, OK to Chris Pitts and Sheree Arradondo, both of Altus, OK.

He is survived and dearly missed by his parents, Grandmothers; Jennifer Arradondo and Anna Pitts, both of Altus: Grandfathers Rickey Holmes of Altus and Terry Lee Terry of Oklahoma City: Aunts and Uncles; Kiquana Pitts and fiancé Rueben Ruiz of Edmond, OK; Schaunston Pitts of Altus; Tanisha Massie, of Dallas, TX; Ebony Arradondo of Altus; Kawan Terry of Dallas; Deannia Sherman of Oklahoma City; Shawta McKeaver of Altus: Special Cousin Gwendolyn Holmes of Oklahoma City, and a special friend, Brittany Boyd, of Midwest City, OK.

Shirley Sue Poolaw

Shirley Sue Poolaw, 62, died Saturday, July 22, 2006 at her home in Olustee, Ok. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial will follow services at the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

She was born on March 3, 1944 in Hobart, Oklahoma to H. Clinton and Georgia (Sperling) Suttle. She graduated from Hobart High School in 1962. She married Bruce Dean Poolaw in April of 1970 in Altus, Oklahoma. She had worked as a waitress but was most appreciated for her work as a caretaker helping others. She had worked for over 10 years for Terry and Bonnie Bullard. She was of the Baptist Faith, loved cooking Sunday dinners, taking care of others and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Valerie June Suttle and other aunts and uncles. She is survived by one daughter Deanna Williams of Olustee, Ok; five sons, Danny Poolaw and wife Holly of Altus, Ok; Dean Poolaw and wife Cristina of Olustee, Ok; Dale Poolaw of Carnegie, Ok; Charlie Cozard Poolaw of Oklahoma City, Ok; Donnie Poolaw of Lawton, Ok; four sisters, Donna Kincannon of Altus, Ok; Linda Tate and husband Wayne of Montana; Glenda Dick and husband Ken of California; Barbara Branch of Rodgers, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Deon, Dyani, Danyelle and Davana Poolaw, Dustin and Derek Cribbs and Dalan Brown; a step granddaughter, Brittany Babb, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Joseph Omar Poulin

Joseph Omar Poulin, Sr, 70, of Altus, died Friday February 3, 2006 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Hudson and Rev. Brandon Murray officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Joseph Omar Poulin, Sr, was born August 31, 1935 in Bangor, Maine to Peter and Elise (Huard) Poulin. He worked at a Steel Mill and in Commercial Transport. He was a member of the Trinity Holiness Church in Blair, Oklahoma. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, hunting, traveling in the United States, and attending church services. His parents Peter and Elise (Huard) Poulin preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Anne Poulin of Altus; and 4 sons Joseph O. Poulin Jr. and wife Sonya of Blair; James L. Poulin and wife Deann of Tulsa; Jeffery S. Poulin of Kingsville, Texas; and Jason A. Poulin of Oklahoma City; brother William Poulin and Sylvia Garni both of Syracuse, New York; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Collin, Madison, Jacob, Joshua, Dustin, Dylan and Alisa; special nieces, Linda, April, Kathy and Kristine and many other nieces and nephews.

Mona Kay Powers

Mona Kay Powers, 59, Altus, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, at her home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Altus City Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating. Services are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home

Mona Powers was born on August 27, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio, to Thomas and Irene (Sanders) Duncan. She attended schools in Texas, N. Dakota, and Altus. Mona was a hairdresser for several years in Altus before she became the long-time Friendship Inn desk clerk, where she worked until the present. She loved animals, cooking, gardening, her work, family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. She was a loving Christian mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her stepfather, Ross Lingerfelt of Milsap, TX; son Victor Powers and wife Chamisa of Friendship, OK; one brother, Michael Duncan and wife Susan of Abilene, TX; and two grandsons, Anthony and Ethan Powers of Friendship. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and one daughter, Lindsey.

Patrick Lee Pryor

Patrick Lee Pryor, 79, Olustee, OK, died Tuesday January 10, 2006 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2006 at the Altus City Cemetery with Bill Osborne officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Patrick Lee Pryor was born February 26, 1926 in Cordell, OK to Joseph L. and Bessie Faye (Parman) Pryor. He graduated from Olustee High School in 1942. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly in WWII. When his service in WWII ended he returned home and attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a B.B.A. in Accounting. Mr. Pryor then re-enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He later married Julia Hernandez in El Paso, TX. Patrick was an avid sports fan. He loved music and talking politics.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia; his parents and three brothers, Joe L., James R. and Ralph P. Pryor. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Leonard of Olustee, OK; two brothers, William “Bill” N. Pryor of Yukon, OK and John C. Pryor of Olustee, OK; niece, DeAnne Warren and nephew, Jim Pryor, both of Olustee, OK. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and relatives.

Harlan Noel Tabb

Harlan Noel Tabb, 78, Altus, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 16, 1928 at Blair, Oklahoma to Allen and Vesta (Boatman) Tabb, the youngest of six children. He attended Blair School and graduated in 1946. He was an outstanding athlete and played on the Blair 1945 State Champion Basketball team. He also pitched for the first Jackson County American Legion Baseball Team.

In 1945 Harlan married Betty McLeod. To this union two sons were born – Jerry and Curtis. In 1956 the couple moved to Santa Ana, California where Harlan spent twelve years in the building industry. In 1964 the Tabb's returned to Altus and began farming, which he loved. He was an avid farmer, golfer, fisherman, and loved teaching his grandsons to hunt and fish. In the 1980’s he joined a group of Altus farmers to form the Farmers Cooperative Gin, has served on the Board of Directors and is still a member of the Coop. Harlan and Betty took great pride in traveling to watch son Jerry play baseball at Tulsa University and later play pro ball with the Cubs and Oakland A’s. When physically able, they never missed a softball game granddaughter Leah played at Putnam City and Kansas University. For years Harlan arose early daily to join friends for breakfast at the café. He loved gardening. Even this spring he urged Betty to plant tomatoes, peppers and squash so he could see the vines grow. He delighted in sharing vegetables with the neighbors and helping them with home repairs. Seldom did he miss the golf or major league baseball games on TV. He was a member of the Elks Country Club and a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church. For years he coached Little League Baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Cloyse, Kenneth, Allen Lowell and Raymond (Matt) during WWII. Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Betty; sons Jerry of Houston; Curtis and wife Tina of Olatha, Kansas; grandchildren Leah and Kevin Henderson; Jeff, Jared and Joel Tabb; a sister Owayne McLeod; a sister-in-law Patsy Cox and husband Forest; a beloved former daughter-in-law Mary Tabb; beloved brother-in-law Robert Howell McLeod and many special nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Harlan Tabb will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Rev. David Player officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. The Tabb Family will greet friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Robert Taylor

Dr. Robert L. Taylor, 84, died Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Ok. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Robert Leighton Taylor was born October 10, 1921 in Cambridge, Ma. to Robert S. and Ruth (Stohl) Taylor. He graduated from high school in Evansville, In. in May of 1939. He enjoyed a long and distinguished military career from 1942 until his retirement from the United States Air Force at the rank of LT. Colonel on July 31, 1966. He taught chemistry at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. He attained a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1970 from Colorado State University at FT. Collins, Co. He especially enjoyed Egyptian and Civil War history. He was a member of the University of Hawaii Volcanic Research Team. He married Lyn Hudson on August 31, 2000 in Lawton, Ok. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Lyn of Altus; daughter, Carolyn Coffin and husband Brad of Lake Forest Park, WA; son, Larry Taylor and wife Karen of Chesterfield, Sc; grandchildren, Sarah and Seth Taylor and two step daughters, Kelli Penstock and husband John of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. and Toni Weeks of Arvada, Co. and one stepson, Steven Hudson of Denver, Co.

Elsie Louise Taylor

Elsie Louise Taylor, 92, Altus, died Saturday January 22, 2005 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the Highland Heights United Methodist Church with Reverend George Lupton officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Elsie was born May 18, 1912 in Bessie, Oklahoma. She was one of six children born to Ed and Emma Behnke and was reared on a farm in the Bessie community. After graduating from Clinton High School, she attended Southwestern University in Weatherford. She married Raymond Taylor and had one son, Bill, and a daughter, Diana, and lived in Hobart for many years. Elsie later moved to Altus and was employed at Altus Air Force Base until her retirement. She took great pride in her work and working with the public gave her much pleasure. Elsie was a “farm girl” at heart and much preferred a ride in the country over a trip to the mall. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Dr. Bill Taylor and his wife Eleanor, a daughter, Diana Schulz and her husband, Denzle; four grandchildren, Louis Taylor & wife Stephanie; Cindy Bickelmann and husband Paul; Mark Schulz and wife Colleen; Mike Schulz and wife Reenie; and nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Clem Steve Terry

Clem Steve Terry, 79, Eldorado, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 26, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with Rev. Pete Wylie and Rev. Dean Goodfellow officiating. Burial will follow services at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Clem Steve Terry was born October 13, 1926 in Eldorado, OK to W.A. Sr. and Ara Lee (Roten) Terry. He attended Purvis Hill and Eldorado Schools. He married Margaret Nell Smith on December 12, 1964 in Quanah, TX. Clem loved farming and worked cotton and wheat for many years. He collected toy tractors and implements. Clem was a member of the Eldorado Baptist Church.

Clem was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Tressie Walker and a brother, W.A. Terry Jr.. Clem is survived by four nieces, Zelma Kirby of Eldorado, OK, Lillie Emberling Crowley, LA, Carolyn Harrington of Big Springs, TX and Donna Barron of Big Springs, TX; nephew, James Walker of Snyder, TX; three cousins, Billie Sue Roten of Cleburne, TX, Leonard Roten of Topeka, KS and Glenn Hardy of Hillsboro, TX; six great nieces and six great nephews.

Leander Preston Thacker

Leander Preston Thacker, 85, long time Altus resident, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2006 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born on December 10, 1920 in Peytonsburg, Kentucky to James Lester and Gladys (Coop) Thacker. He graduated from Ozark High School, Jackson County, Oklahoma in 1940. He attended college at Oklahoma State University where he played on the basketball team. He continued his education and graduated from Panhandle State in Goodwell, Oklahoma. He entered the Army Air Corps on September 20, 1942 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on October 21, 1945. He married Betty Joyce Ford on July 25, 1948. He taught one year in Turpin, Oklahoma; three years in Canute, Oklahoma; three years in Boise City, Oklahoma and retired in 1981 following 26 years of Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base. He repaired and refinished furniture for many years in his shop at his home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus. He enjoyed building things for the outdoors and for his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports in school. Preston was known as “grandpa” to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Gwen Hays. He is survived by his wife Betty Joyce of the home in Altus; his daughter Sherry Faucher and her husband Johnnie of Altus; his son-in-law Earl Hays of Avilla, TN; his son Randy Thacker and his wife Denise of Victoria, TX; his son Leander Thacker and his wife Teresa of Altus; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Heath, Heather, Brandon, Jonathon, Kenny, Cory and Jami; two sisters, Nelda Smith of Willow, Ok; Leona Strong of Ada, Ok; two brothers, Kenneth Thacker of Oklahoma City, Ok; Donnie Thacker of Granite, Ok; and many nieces, nephews and friends. The Thacker Family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Kincannon Funeral Home. Additional parking for Monday’s services is available behind Kincannon Funeral Home.

Foy A. Thomason

Foy A. Thomason, 71, Altus, died Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Jack McKeown and David Lovejoy officiating. Interment will follow services at the Restlawn Cemetery.

He was born on February 4, 1934 in Harmon County, Oklahoma to Ed and Elpha (Reeves) Thomason. He graduated from Victory High School in 1953. He married Ruth Long on September 27, 1955 in Altus, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He worked for his father-in-law, Pat Long, following his military service. He then worked for Jones Oldsmobile and later for Frank Smart with Smart Oldsmobile. He retired in January of 2005 from Wilmes Superstore as a service advisor for several years. His total automotive career spanned over 46 years. He was a long time member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ where he has served as a deacon. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, camping, four wheeling and drinking coffee at McDonalds with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jess and his son Bob LaJon. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Thomason of Altus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Dawn Thomason of Berwick, Louisiana; Wylie and Suzie Thomason of Carrollton, Texas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Eddie and Jan Thomason of Selah, Washington; Glen Thomason of Wellston, Oklahoma; his mother-in-law, Katie Long of Altus; three grandchildren, Ben, Brittani and Becca and many friends. The Thomason Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.
