MILDRED ALEXANDER

Mildred Alexander, 91, died April 2, 2002 in Okmulgee.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

ANGEL L. MCCORD

Angel Leigh McCord, infant daughter of Travis and Kelly (Tackett) McCord, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002. She was born November 24, 2001 in Ada, Oklahoma.

Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Madilyn Ray and Luara Jean; maternal grandparents, Olen and Isabel Tackett; paternal grandparents, Bob and JoAnn McCord and Carolyn Lewis; paternal great-grandmothers, Dora Benedict and Betty McCord Castle and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 2p.m., Friday, March 22 at the Lamar Community Center with Michael Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Lamar Cemetery under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Casketbearers will be Bob McCord, Kane Tackett, Travis McCord and Olen Tackett.

WANDA J. GASAWAY

Wanda Jean Gasaway, lifelong Okmulgee resident, died Wednesday morning, March 20, 2002 at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. She was 54. She was born October I 1, 1947 in Okmulgee to Mr. and Mrs. John Messer.

She was a CMA with Central State Community Services. Mrs. Gasaway was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her daughter, Tina Gasaway of the home, two sisters, Norma Austin of Okmulgee and Martha Messer of Muskogee, two brothers, Bruce Messer of Preston and Fred Messer of Tulsa.

Arrangements are pending with McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

CLAUDE W. JOHNSON SR.

Claude W. Johnson, 67, and a resident of Arlington, Texas, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on April 15, 1934 in Tahlequah, the son of Noble and Beatrice (McDowell) Johnson.

He attended elementary and junior high school In Stillwater, Oklahoma, before moving back to Tahlequah. He attended Lincoln High School in Ft. Gibson Oklahoma before enlisting in the United States Army. In 1956, he married Doris M. Ray. He worked in the construction industry before his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include six children, Ronnie and Janet Johnson, Okmulgee, Orlando and Justine Johnson, Irving, Texas, Claude Johnson, Jr., Edwardo and Tracey Johnson, all of Tulsa, and Edna Leatrice Brown and Demetra Johnson, Arlington, Texas; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be held on Friday, Match 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Director, Inc., of Okmulgee. Reverend Marcus Blackwell will officiate. Mr. Johnson will then be cremated. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 Noon until 7:00 p.m. at Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmugee.

JESSIE RIVERA

Jessie Rivera, 62, a Henryetta resident died March 18, 2002 in Henryetta. He was born October 26, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Okla., to Carlota (Rodriquez) and Frank T. Rivera.

He worked at Ball Brothers Glass and attended the End Time Revival Tabernacle. He was preceded in death by his father Frank T. Rivera, a brother, Raymond Rivera, a sister Margaret Rivera and a nephew. Tony Ray Rivera.

Survivors include his mother, Carlota Rivera of Henryetta; daughter, Gena R. Anderson and husband David of Phyllis, Kentucky; two brothers, Tony Rivera and wife Sharon of Henryetta and Frank Rivera and wife Sherron of Henryetta and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday March 22, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

VERSIA SIMPSON

Versia Simpson, 87, a resident of Okmulgee, died Wednesday, March 20, in the local hospital.

Arrangements are pending with the House of Winn Funeral Home.

RILEY JOSEPH NASH

Riley J. Nash, 82, of Beggs died March 11, 2002 in the local hospital. He was born March 3, 1920 in Okmulgee, the son of Aras and Emma Lee Nash.

He attended Wheatley School in Beggs and served his country in the United States Army. He joined the New Bethel Baptist Church at an early age and was a construction laborer.

Survivors include a daughter, Harriett Fields of Los Angeles, Calif.; a son, Eugene Blair of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Thompson of Beggs and Helen Tyson of Compton, Calif.; six grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 12 noon in the Clark-Brumley Gymnasium in Beggs. His son-in-law, Dr. C. Denver Fields, pastor of True Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church of Los Angeles, Calif., will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tuskegee Cemetery, Edna, OK. Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. of Okmulgee. Visitation will be on Friday, March 22, 2002 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

BOB M. GUNN

Bob M. Gunn, 66, a resident of Penbroke, Florida died in Florida on March 19, 2002. He was born July 26, 1935 in Oklahoma City. His parents Luke and Carmen Gunn and a brother Jack Yancy preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife June Gunn of the home; two sons Bob M. Gunn Jr., of Tulsa and Greg Gunn of Okmulgee; two sisters Juanita Creekmore of Duncan, Oklahoma and Sherry Lewis of Okmulgee, and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

WILLIAM MCCULLOUGH

William R. McCullough,96, of Pleasant Valley died March 21,2002. Services are tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday at Shurden Chapel. Survivors and final arrangements will be announced by the Shurden Funeral Home.

FELIX TIGER

Felix Tiger, 76, of Okmulgee died March 21, 2002 in Okmulgee.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

NINA LEE LEU

Nina Lee Leu, 88, resident of Okmulgee, died on Sunday, March 17, 2002 in Okmulgee. Mrs. Leu was born October 25, 1913 in Spiro, Oklahoma to Escue and Zana (Emerson) Henley.

She married Marian C. Leu in Tulsa on July 1, 1939. She had been employed by the Donnley Garment Company and was a Supervisor for the Pendleton Woolen Mills in Pendleton, Oregon. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she owned and operated Lou's Restaurant for 20 years then moving to Okmulgee and operating Lou's Restaurant before retiring. Mrs. Leu was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the altar Society, and was a volunteer Pink Lady at the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. Her parents and two sisters Gay Nell Henley and Anna Deal Henley preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband Marian C. Leu of the home, two sisters Maxine Candler MeGown of Pentagorda, Florida and Billa Dean Rogers of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 21, 2002 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Vima officiating. Interment will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon Winters Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-8 p.m.

DENNIS EDWARD SMITH

Dennis Edward (Ed) Smith, 57, resident of Okmulgee died Monday.

Survivors include his wife, Stella of the home. Other survivors and services will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

OSCAR WITT

Oscar Witt, 96, a resident of Okmulgee since 1955, died Friday, March 15, 2002 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was born on January 4, 1906 in Combs, Arkansas to Daniel and lda (Richardson) Witt.

He married Opal Nelson on September 22, 1928 in Arkansas. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a member of the American Legion. He served on the Morris School board, was a council member for the City of Morris and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Opal in 1996, five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include three sons, Paul Witt of Morris, Dwight Witt of Moore, Oklahoma and Wayne Witt of Claremore; one sister, Aleen Grammer of Okmulgee and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Services were scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, at the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Cal Kennedy officiating. Burial was in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

JOHN C. TYLER

John C. "J.C." Tyler, 73, 0f Henryetta died on March 16, 2002 in Tulsa. He was born March 8, 1929 in Whitington, Arkansas to J.C. Tyler and Cora Lee Cooper.

J.C. married Joyce Cook on December 23, l 948 in Van Buren, Arkansas. He Alas a glass worker retiring in 1974 and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Cecil Wayne Tyler, two brothers, Curtis and Leo Tyler and a sister Barbara Blatchford.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of the home; a son, Kenny and wife Cindy Tyler of Henryetta; three daughters, Sandra Stephens and husband Frank of Louisiana, Karen Martin and husband David of Henryetta and Marilyn Brown and husband Albert of Henryetta; 13 Grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, W.C. Tyler of Henryetta; three sisters, Margaret Pierce of Woodward, Gladys Myers of Del Norte, Colo., Betty Calvert of Henryetta and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Ray officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah. Pallbearers will be Kenny Tyler, David Martin, Jeff Mayfield, Aaron Martin, Steven Brown and Travis Moore. Services are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home of Henryetta.
