DOLLIE W. SMITH

Dollie W. Smith, 71, of Tulsa and former Henryetta resident, died Feb. 25, 2002 in Tulsa. She was born March 8, 1930 at Hanna, Okla., to Boyd and Ora Gladys Nance Miller.

She was married to G. J. Smith from Aug. 8, 1957 until December of 1996. She enjoyed crocheting and drawing rabbits.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy B. Smith of Bixby and Mike G. Smith of Glenpool; two daughters, Brenda K. Morse of Vian and L. Renee Brissett of Henryetta; three sisters, Barbara Painter and Wanda Petrone of Henryetta and Shirley Finley of Oklahoma City and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Rodney George officiating.

Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home of Henryetta.

NAOMI MANGUM

Naomi Mangum, 65, longtime Okmulgee resident, died Thursday, February 7, 2002 in the local hospital. She was born on March 10, 1936 in Grayson, OK to James and Luler Mae (Gay) Nolen.

She was a retired Home Health provider, as well as a minister.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Booker T. Mangum, Sr. of the home, four sons, Richard Mangum of Winfield, Kansas, Elder Booker T. Mangum, Jr. of Okmulgee, Clifford Mangum of Oklahoma City, and Mark Mangum of Okmulgee, three daughters, Gwen Cooks, Sheila Powell, and Shirley Mangum, all of Okmulgee, two brothers, Pete Nolen of Pacomia, California, and Wilbert Nolen of Tulsa, OK, two sisters, Wilma Chatman of Oklahoma City, and Mary Seymore of Witchita, Kansas, 12 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous relatives and friends.

A Home Going Celebration will be conducted at 2 p.m., on Saturday, February 16, 2002 in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. David Burks officiating. Burial will follow in the Our Lady of Grace Cemetery under the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m., until 6 p.m.

ROXANNA BURRIS

Roxanna Lewis Burris, 83, longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in the local hospital. She was born on May 4, 1918 in Broken Bow, OK to Elbert and Laura (Cubit) Workman.

She was a retired social worker with the community action program. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities.

She is preceded in death by her husband and one daughter.

Survivors include five sons, Clarence W. Lewis II of Bedford Heights, Ohio, Rueben D. Lewis of Tulsa, Gary G. Lewis of Overland Park, Kansas, Frank E. Lewis of Oakland, California, and John W. Lewis of Houston, Texas; five daughters, Thelmarie Gray of Los Angeles, California, Maxine L. Bostic of Witchita, Kansas, Rev. Laura Ruth Norwood of Tulsa, Anna Kaye Smith of Torrence, California, and Lavinnie Winn of Okmulgee; two sisters, Lavada Parker of Oakland, California and Verna Lewis of Haskell, Texas; 45 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.

JAMES L. COHEN

James Leon Cohen, 5O, and a resident of Tulsa, died Saturday, February 9, 2002 In a Tulsa hospital. He was born June 25, 1951 in Okmulgee County, the son of Loyd and Betty (Jones) Cohen.

He grew up in Nuyaka where he attended elementary school. He also attended Beggs High School, where he graduated in 1969. He continued his education at O.S.U. Tech in Okmulgee where he studied electronics. He married Pauletta Johnson in 1971 and worked for several years as a truck driver for Arrow Trucking. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty and his grandparents, Cecil and Elsie Cohen.

Survivors include his wife, Pauletta Cohen, of the home; his daughters, Alicia, Sharmekia and Kimberly, all of Tulsa; his father, Lloyd Cohen, Nuyaka; a sister, Lynn Elam, Broken Arrow, a brother, Lloyd Cohen, Jr., Okmulgee; and four grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston High School Gymnasium. Brother Charles Lowe, of the Church of God Evening Light Saints, Tulsa, will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery at Mounds. Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Casketbearers will be Ronald Johnson, Harold Sanders, Carl Dumas, Clarence Thomas, James Emery, J. W. Johnson, Millard Truelove and Prescott Davis.

VELMA BAKER

Velma Juanita Baker, 88, longtime Morris resident, died Feb. 13, 2002 in Tulsa at Select Specialty Hospital. She was born Oct. 26, 1913 in Springdale, Ark.

She married Jefferson Baker Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Morris. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Baker of Renton, Wash., a daughter, Susan Whisman of Morris and a brother, Bud Locklin of Springdale, Ark.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb.16 at the Morris Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Sean Kennedy officiating.

Arrangements are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.

RUBY PEIMAN YOUNG

Ruby Arlene Peiman Young, 79, of Tulsa and former Okmulgee resident, died Feb.13, 2002 in Tulsa. She was born in Kansas on Feb. 28, 1922 to Pastor Herbert Peiman and his wife Magdalena Kersten Peiman.

She was married to Pastor Rufus Young in June of 1950. When her children were in school she returned to OBU to complete her degree in education and taught full time in towns to which her husband was called to pastor, including Okmulgee, Guthrie and Perryton, Texas. Pastor Rufus and Ruby retired in in 1989 and moved toTulsa.

Survivors include her husband, Rufus Young of the home; her children, David and Lynn Young of Seattle, Marian Young and Tom Vinson of Tulsa, Tim and Susan Young of Tulsa, and Carole Young and Jay Preslar of Myrtle Beach, S. C.; seven grandchildren; sister, Louise Mueller of St. Louis, twin sister, Ruth Streit of Vernon, Texas and a brother, Don Peiman of Dallas.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2331 East Fifth Place, Tulsa.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Ruby Peiman Young Scholarship Fund at Tulsa Lutheran School, 146 S. Sheridan, Tulsa, OK 74112.

ELIZABETH WILSON

Elizabeth Wilson, 89, of Beggs died Feb.13, 2002 in Kansas City, Kan.

Arrangements are pending with the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

LOUIS C. DORMAN

Louis Cleveland Dorman, 60, of Los Angeles, Calif., and formerly of Okmulgee, died Feb. 11, 2002 in Los Angeles.

Arrangements are pending with the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

CHARLES JOHNSON

Charles Johnson, 63, of Okmulgee died Wednesday evening, Feb. 13, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born May 2, 1938 in Seminole to Earl Charles and Pauline Lodema (Goodell) Johnson.

He had worked at Bartlett-Collins Glass Plant in Sapulpa and had moved to Okmulgee from Bristow in the early 1960's. Prior to living in Bristow he had been a resident of Cleveland and Sapulpa. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Lee Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Lee of Chandler; two brothers, Johnny Johnson of Okmulgee and Tommy Johnson of Kingsville,Texas; four sisters, Betty Herd of Aldama, Mexico, Gladys Evans of Okmulgee, Sharon Dowdy of Stroud and Laneeta Gaskins of Slick; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside rites will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Beggs Cemetery with Rev. Marvin Buell officiating.

Friends may visit the funeral home Friday from 10a.m. until 8 p.m.

Arrangements are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

KATHLEEN THOMPSON

Kathleen Thompson, 91, died Feb, 13, 2002 in Tulsa. She was born Jan. 12, 1911 in Tucumcari, N.M., to Spires F. and Mary Jane (Ellis) Duggins.

She married Grady Thompson on Jan. 20, 1934 in Tulsa. A longtime resident of Okmulgee, she was a member of the First Christian Church for over 73 years. She worked as personnel manger of the Okmulgee Hospital for many years and retired 12 years ago from the Myers Clinic in Okmulgee. She was preceded in death by her husband Grady in 1967.

Survivors include one son, David P. Thompson and wife Margaret of Owasso; two daughters, Emma Anne Ward of Abiquiu, N. M., and Marilyn Fraser and husband Barney McLaughlin of Tulsa; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1p.m., Saturday, Feb,16 at the First Christian Church of Okmulgee. Rev. Charlie Green and Rev. David Reese will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Pallbearers will be Cyndi Thompson Molina, Nelly Kathleen Fraser, Mark Thompson, J. Gregory Ward, Matthew D. Ward and Jeff Molina.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Christian Church.

RUTH ELLER

Ruth Eller, 100, of Okmulgee died Feb.12, 2002. She was born July 10, 1901 to Earnest and Manerva (Swindell) Martindale.

She was married to Charles Eller on March 31, 1919 and he preceded her in death in 1978. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Wilson of Okmulgee and Alice Moore of Hayword, Calif.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2p.m., in the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery.

The family would like for contributions be made to the Oklahoma Medical Foundation in memory of Ruth Eller.
