ELIJAH DREW

Elijah Drew, 59, and a resident of Okmulgee, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 go the local hospital. He was born on February 20, 1942 in Okmulgee, the son of Goliath and Josephine (Wilson) Drew. He attended school in Taft and Muskogee and was a construction laborer.

Survivors include his daughters, Debbie Drew and Angie Drew-Bagby, both of Okmulgee; his brothers, Elvin Hunt of Texas, Charles Hunt, of Tulsa, and Dave Drew, of Okmulgee; his sisters, Alberta Ezell of Lawton and Elneta Cowans of Tulsa, along with other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m., until 6p.m., at the funeral home.

DR. W. M. HAYNES

William M. Haynes, M.D., 96, of Henryetta died Oct. 29, 2001at Henryetta. He was born Aug. 3, 1905 in Charleston, Ark., to Wallace and Cora Bollinger Haynes.

He was married to Claire Pistorius on Aug. 30, 1941 at Shreveport, La. He attended the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Ark., and entered his medical practice in Henryetta in 1941. He also served as medical examiner for Okmulgee County for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Henryetta and the Henryetta Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Katie Haynes and four brothers, Dr. Elmer Haynes, Woodrow Haynes, John Haynes and James Haynes.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Claire Haynes of the home; seven daughters, Dorothy Marie Haynes of Henryetta, Marjorie H. Stekelberg of Henryetta, Ann Claire Duplechin and husband Giles of Belle Casse, La., Billie Jo Lankford and husband T. Randall of Galveston, Texas, Pamela Kay Guerin and husband Charles L. of Hammond, La., Maria Diane McKuin and husband Gary of Henryetta and Julie Denise Atkinson and husband Dr. Dean A. Atkinson of Edmond; one sister, Marjorie Bonner of Charleston, Ark., three brothers, Herman Haynes of Charleston, Ark., Vance Haynes of Moore and Paul Haynes of Sallisaw; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 1 at 10:30 a.m., at the Henryetta First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Paslay officiating. Committal services will be at 3 p.m., at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, Ark., under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be James G. Duplechin, Ensign Christopher Lankford, Nicholas Lankford, Charles Guerin, William Steckelberg and Duane Woodliff.

CARL MCMULLEN

Carl McMullen, 67, of Okmulgee died Oct. 27, 2001in a Tulsa hospital.

Arrangements are pending with the House of Winn Funeral Home.

EVERETT R. CARR

Everett R. Carr, 95, died Oct. 25, 2001 in Tulsa. He was born Dec. 27, 1905 in Neosho, Kan., to Columbus and Maria Elizabeth (Owens) Carr.

He was married to Dorothy Marie Phillips in Okmulgee on Sept. 30, 1933. He retired as an oil land man with Parker Drilling Company and worked as secretary for Senator Pine for three years. He was a member of the Petroleum Club and the Eastside Christian Church in Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Phillip E. Carr of Denver, Colo., Robert O. Carr and wife Andrea of Marietta, Ga., and Richard C. Carr and wife Tasha of Muskogee; two brothers, George Carr and wife Cele of Fredonia, Kan., and Charles Carr of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Ward of Fredonia and Delores Luna of Springfield, Mo., two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 at the

Okmulgee Cemetery with Rev. Jim Hoyet officiating. Arrangements are under direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

LESLIE J. BREWER

Leslie J. Brewer, 74, of Stillwater died Oct. 28, 2001 in Stillwater. She was born Feb. 27, 1927 in Portland, Ore., to Roland Child and Essie (Herriford) Child.

She retired from Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee with 14 years service.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis R. Cunningham of Okmulgee, David R. Cunningham of San Jose, Calif., and Brian Brewer of Tulsa; a daughter, Ruth Nixon of Perkins; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

No services are planned.

EDITH ARNOLD

Edith Arnold, 82, of Okmulgee died Oct. 28, 2001in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born Feb. 10, 1919 in Lenna, Okla., to Hershal and Lola Mae Davis.

She was a housewife and enjoyed sewing and reading.

Survivors include several children, a daughter-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, a brother, one sister, a sister-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 31 , 2001 at the Morris Cemetery with Rev. Harley Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

JANE ELLEN WILSON

Jane Ellen Wilson, 54, of Beggs died Oct. 23, 2001 at her home. She was born March 31, 1947 in Oklahoma City to Robert and Melva (Reed) Warren.

She graduated from high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She married Charles P. Wilson on Sept. 30, 1978 in Miami. They moved to Beggs in 1980 from Broken Arrow. She was a registered X-Ray Technician and a registered nurse. She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her mother, Melva Warren of Midwest City; husband, Charles Wilson of Beggs; a son, George Meier of Oklahoma City and two sisters, Rebecca Burgur of Grove and Gloria Dawkins of Midwest City.

Funeral services will be Friday at 12 noon at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Beggs with Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnylane Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Visitation wil be Friday morning until service time at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.

MILDRED N. THOMAS

Mildred Naomi Thomas, 39, of Beggs died at a Tulsa Hospital Friday, October 19, 2001. She was born August 16, 1962 in the Okmulgee County area to Clarence Thomas and Lillian (Smith) Thomas.

She enjoyed watching television, coloring, her family and most of all entertaining her family.

She was survived by five sisters Doris Jacques of Kansas City, Mo, Helen Patterson of Houston, Texas, Lillie Holmes of Beggs, Carolyn Grady of Tulsa, Marilyn Thomas of Beggs and three brothers, David Thomas of Kansas City, Mo, James Thomas and Joe Thomas both of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lillian Thomas and five brothers.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 27, 2001, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church South in Beggs with Dr. Reverend Maurice Williams and Reverend Thomas Clardy officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.

Visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2001, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Beggs.

Casketbearers will be her nephews Adrian Checotah, Melvin Gaines Jr., Eric Patterson, James Patterson, Richard Thomas and Melvin Walker.

DONALD "BUCK" LAWSON, SR.

Donald Edward "Buck" Lawson, Sr. left this earthly home to be with Jesus on October 13, 2001. He was born Feb. 8, 1938 in Severs Township just west of Okmulgee Lake to John and Goldie Lawson. Buck left Oklahoma as a teenager bound for California where he worked as a jack of all trades. He returned to Okmulgee in 1977 where he lived and worked as a carpenter and roofer. In June he met Marie Counterman which soon after meeting on July 15,1977 they started living together until their marriage Feb.14, 1984.

Buck enjoyed his work whole heartedly as well as gardening, tinkering around with cars and small motors. Aside these things, if asked his favorite pasttime, he'd answer eating and sleeping. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Dan Lawson and Goldie Mae Cook Simmons; a daughter, Donette Kay Lawson; a brother, Oliver Lawson; a sister, Carmelita Lawson; and a grandson, Nathan Jacob Holden.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Lawson of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Lawson of Albuquerque, N.M., Marlene Chapman and Raymond, of El Reno, and Laura Lawson of the home; a son, Donald Lawson of Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandsons, William Cranford III, Timothy Cranford, Joshua Morgan, Westlee Morgan, Timothy Lawson and John Perry Jr., four granddaughters, Melissa Cranford, April Morgan, Bethany Lawson and Ashlin Holden; one great-granddaughter Lexis Cranford; two sisters, Betty Alston of Tuttle, Okla., and Olivia Lawson of Okmulgee; three brothers, Danny Lawson and Linda, Esten Milligan and Jill and Kenneth Milligan and Betty, all of Okmulgee; father in law and mother in law, Howard and Marilyn Counterman, sister in law, Elaine and Donnie Tillery and many cousins, nieces,' nephews and dear friends.

A memorial service is being held on Oct. 27 at 3p.m, at the Hoffman First Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Hunnicutt officiating.

A dinner for Buck's family and friends will be held at the church at 1:30.

Thank you God for sharing him with us for 63 years, 8 months and five days he spent here on earth.

CARL D. ATOR

Carl Dean Ator, 75, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Saturday, October 20, 2001 in Tulsa. He was born on Monday, November 25, 1925 in Lipan, Texas to Floyd J. and Larrinda Ellen (Self) Ator.

He came to Okmulgee in 1951 from Woodward, Oklahoma, and married his wife, Lorene Gasaway on August 22, 1952 in Okmulgee. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War 11. He received his B.A. degree from O.S.U. Stillwater and a Masters degree from Northeastern State University in 1979. He was a retired educator who spent his early years in education teaching Agriculture at O.S.U. Okmulgee. He later taught at Beggs, Nuyaka and Schulter schools. He served as Agriculturalist for Creek Nation under Chief Claude Cox; Manager of the Parkin Hatchery in Shawnee; and Judge for the American Poultry Association. He was a longtime active member of the Church of Christ of Okmulgee.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene of the home; one son, Floyd D. Ator and wife, Sandy of Okmulgee; one daughter, Marion Colombin and husband, Jeff of Okmulgee; one sister, Alma Payne and husband, Don of Bedford, Texas; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at the Church of Christ in Okmulgee with Jack Shock officiating. Burial will be in at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas on Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Floyd Jones will officiate. Services under the direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are Charlie Cargill, Clifford Reeve, Ben Hamilton, Vernon Himes and Doyle Sluder.

DONALD WAYNE BYRD

Donald Wayne Byrd, 52, of Tulsa, died Friday, October 19, 2001 in Tulsa. He was born December 22, 1948 in Tulsa to Arnold Wayne and Evelyne lnez (Gilley) Byrd.

He had lived in Tulsa most of his life, and had graduated from Webster High School. Donald was an electrician, and enjoyed being in the country, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed reading and cars. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Wayne Byrd.

Survivors include a daughter, Brandi Guthrie of Collinsville, a sister, Kay Roberts of Tulsa and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at the Beggs Cemetery with Reverend Tom Tidwell officiating.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 12-8 Tuesday and 9-12 on Wednesday. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.
