RODGER E. HAMBY SR.

Rodger Ethelbert Hamby Sr., 79, longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001 in Tulsa. He was born June 5, 1922 in Licking, Mo., to Ethelbert and Hattie (Rodgers) Hamby.

He married Rosella Mildred Farr on June 11, 1945 at Salt Lake City, Utah. They moved to Okmulgee in 1948, coming from Bristow. He served with the United States Army during World War II in the 390th Bomb Squad. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1980. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Marie Hardy.

Survivors include a son, Rodger Hamby Jr., of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Norma Jarrett of Broken Arrow and Sharon Horn of Midland, Texas and a sister, Alma Williams of Stillwater.

Graveside rites will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Rev. Frank Lewis officiating.

Services are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA WITHROW

Virginia Withrow, 84, a longtime resident of Henryetta died Oct. 19, 2001. She was born August 8, 1917 in Morris, Oklahoma to Walter Clark and Effie (Whitaker) Clark.

She married Theodore "Ted" Withrow on December 20, 1941 at Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death March 28, 1995. Virginia worked for Wal-Mart for 27 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 brother and 3 sisters. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Henryetta, a member of the Eastern Star, the Dewar Rebekah Lodge, and served on the Okmulgee County Election Board for 50 years. She attended and graduated from the Eram High School in Eram, Ok,. and attended Nursing School in Arkansas, becoming a registered nurse.

Survivors include a son, Ted and Pam Withrow Jr., of Bethany; two daughters, Sheila and John Sukovaty of Tulsa and Cheryl and Jerry Page of Broken Arrow; two brothers, Bill and Pauline Clark and Bud Clark, all of Oklahoma City; a sister, Carmaletta Langston of Lamar, Colo.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23 in the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Pasley officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

MILDRED SPEAR

Mildred Spear,68, a resident of Dustin died Oct. 21, 2001. She was born Sunday, December 18, 1932 in Hanna, Okla., to Monroe Burleson and Ella May (Smith) Burleson.

She was married to Lewis Spear on March 18, 1950 in Eufaula. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Lloyd, Woodrow and Guy Burleson.

Survivors include her husband of the home in Dustin; two sons, Lewis Junior Spear and wife Vickie of Moore and Jim Spear and wife Leslie of Clovis, Calif.; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Elmer Burleson of Selma, Calif.; and a sister, Lillian Holley, formerly of Dustin.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Dustin First Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Hunnicut and Rev. Randy Zinn officiating. Burial will be in the Hanna Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Robert Robertson, Bill Robertson, Frank Blankenship, James Jones, Dewayne Kennedy and David Spear.

MILDRED N. THOMAS

Mildred Naomi Thomas, 39, of Beggs died at a Tulsa Hospital Friday, October 19, 2001. She was born August 16, 1962 in the Okmulgee County area to Clarence Thomas and Lillian (Smith) Thomas.

She enjoyed watching television, coloring, her family and most of all entertaining her family.

She was survived by five sisters Doris Jacques of Kansas City, Mo, Helen Patterson of Houston, Texas, Lillie Holmes of Beggs, Carolyn Grady of Tulsa, Marilyn Thomas of Beggs and three brothers, David Thomas of Kansas City, Mo, James Thomas and Joe Thomas both of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lillian Thomas and five brothers.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 27, 2001, 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church South in Beggs with Dr. Reverend Maurice Williams and Reverend Thomas Clardy officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.

Visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2001, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Beggs.

Casketbearers will be her nephews Adrian Checotah, Melvin Gaines Jr., Eric Patterson, James Patterson, Richard Thomas and Melvin Walker.

LEROY CRAWFORD SR.

Leroy Crawford Sr., 75, a resident of Okmulgee died Oct.17, 2001in the local hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1926 in Okmulgee, to Willis and Beedie (Williams) Crawford,

He retired from Ball Brothers Glass and was veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nettie, a daughter, Leetta Lewis. and his twin brother, Leon Crawford.

Survivors include three sons, Rev. Leroy Crawford Jr., Okmulgee, Johnny Crawford, Tahlequah, Jimmy Crawford, Ft Worth, Texas; one daughter, Willene Owens, Tulsa; 10 grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, in the Northwest Baptist Church, at 11:00 a.m. with Elder Ralph Bagsby, officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

DONALD "BUCK" LAWSON

Donald Edward "Buck" Lawson, 63, of Okmulgee, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at his home. He was born Feb. 8, 1938 in Okmulgee to John Dan and Goldie Margret (Cook) Lawson.

When he returned to Okmulgee from California he worked as a roofer. He was married to Kathleen Marie (Conterman) Lawson on July 15,1977. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Donette Lawson a brother, Oliver Lawson, a sister, Carmelita Lawson and a grandson, Nathan Holden.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Lawson of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Lawson of Preston, Marlene Chapman of El Reno, and Laura Lawson of Okmulgee; a son, Donald Lawson of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Alston of Tuttle, Okla., and Olivia Lawson of Okmulgee; three brothers, Danny Lawson, Esten Milligan and Kenneth Milligan of Okmulgee; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home for a date later this month.

EARL P. FINCH

Earl Peay Finch. 94, Of Okmulgee died October 13, 2001. He was born on December 2, 1906, in Bernie, Mo., to John and Myrtie Finch.

He moved to Okmulgee at the age of 18 and retired from Public Service Company of Oklahoma in 1973 after 47 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee and an active deacon for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Alice M. (Peavler) Finch, a son, Robert (Bob) Finch, a grandson Robbie Finch, and three brothers.

He is survived by a son William E. (Bill) Finch and wife Shirley of Norman; daughters Mary Alice Hull and her late husband, Sam, of Okmulgee, Martha R. McGown and husband Jeff of McKinney, Texas, Ann Soma of Okmulgee; daughter-in-law Kay Finch of Preston and brother Jarrett Finch and wife Oakley of Kansas City, Kans.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Okmulgee with the Reverend Henry Maxey and Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Burial was at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Casketbearers were grandson Stephen Finch, James Hull, Danny Hull, Michael Finch, David Soma, Chad Soma, Jeffrey McGown and Phillip Finch.

LOIS FAY PARKER

Lois Fay Parker, 73, of Okmulgee, died Monday, October 15, 2001 at Rebold Manor. She was born February 1, 1928 in Cromwell, Oklahoma to Billy and Hallie (Roof) McDonald.

She married Jessie Vernon Parker in December 1947 in Muskogee. They moved to Wichita in 1953 from Okmulgee, then returned to Okmulgee l l years ago. She was a member of Natura Baptist Church. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Jessie Vernon Parker of the home; two sons, Vernon D. Parker of High Ridge, Mo., and Calvin L. Parker of Wichita, Kans.; a sister, Lucille Waldroop of Okmulgee, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Matlock officiating. Burial will follow in the Weleetka Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home from l2-8 on Thursday. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

LEROY CRAWFORD SR.

Leroy Crawford Sr., 75, of Okmulgee died Wednesday, Oct.17, 2001 at the OMH Medical Center.

Arrangements are pending with the House of Winn Funeral Home.

DONALD "BUCK" LAWSON

Donald Edward "Buck" Lawson, 63, of Okmulgee, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at his home. He was born Feb. 8, 1938 in Okmulgee to John Dan and Goldie Margret (Cook) Lawson.

EMMA (OMA) HOFSESS

Emma (Oma) Hofsess, 95, of Okmulgee died Oct. 9, 2001 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1906 in Berlin, Germany to Wilhelm and Loise Hoepfner.

She was married to Alfred Hofsess on May 11, 1925 in Berlin. They had one daughter, Emmi, who was married to Eldon Jarvis in Landshut, Germany on May 15, 1952. She died Nov.10, 1994 in Okmulgee. Emma and Alfred came to Okmulgee in 1976 to be near their daughter. Alfred died May 2, 1979 in Berlin and Emma returned to Okmulgee in 1980.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Elden Jarvis and wife Stephany of Okmulgee; a sister, Charlotte Betke of Berlin, Germany; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Rev. Myles Schultz officiating.

Friends may visit the funeral home from 9 a.m., until 1p.m., on Wednesday. Services are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

FREDDIE MAE COOKS

Freddie Mae Cooks, 72, of Okmulgee died Friday, Oct. 12 in a Tulsa hospital. She was born on September 3, 1929 in Okmulgee to Fred and Evelyn (Jordan) Arledge.

She was a homemaker and laundry attendant. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one son, Tilman Ellis, Jr. of Owasso, OK; five daughters, Constance Hill, Stephanie Mims, both of Tulsa, Wilmette Cooks Daily, Cheryl Smith, Synthia Cooks, all of Okmulgee; one brother, Robert Arledge of Los Angeles, CA; five sisters, Brenda Oshman, Veronica Drew, Sheila Kaye Robbins, Patsy Jackson, and Pamela Hill, all of Tulsa; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, along with numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. T.O. Chappelle Jr., delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery under direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 16 from Noon until 6 p.m.
