SAMUEL J. MONTGOMERY

Samuel Joel Montgomery, 60, of Okmulgee, died on Sunday morning, October 7, 2001 in his home. He was born on January 10, 1941 in Okmulgee, the son of Jeremiah and Valaria (Flader) Montgomery.

He grew up in Okmulgee and attended schools here, where he graduated from Dunbar High School, Class of 1960. He worked for Ball Brother Glass Company for many years before his retirement. He also worked for Okmulgee Terrace Nursing Home. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and loved to hunt and fish. His family members include his wife, Emma Jean Montgomery, of the home; his son, Mark Wayne Montgomery, Dallas, Texas; his daughters, Sheila Sherila Jackson, Okmulgee, Nakita Nicole Montgomery, Tulsa, and Tammy Shenette McDade, Okmulgee; his brothers, Charles B. Montgomery and Parnell Montgomery, Okmulgee; his sisters, Rosa Lee Ackinson, Okmulgee, and Jerry Lee Outley, Tulsa; eleven grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and many friends.

Service of Memory will be held on Friday, October 12, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Macedonia Baptist Church. Reverend C. J. Jeffrey, Jr. Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

BILLIE M. JACKSON

Billie M. (Fambrough) Jackson, 80, longtime Okmulgee resident, died Oct. 9, 2001. She was born Oct. 21, 1920 to Jim and Ada (Garland) Fambrough in Okmulgee.

She was married to Jessie L. Jackson who preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1976. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Visual Impaired Support Group, OES Chapter 241 and V.F.W. Post 1189 Ladies Auxiliary. She had been owner of many restaurants. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jessie; son, Michael Jacob; one sister Marguerite Tierik; one brother, G. M. Fambrough and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include two daughters, Saundra Jo Gibson of Okmulgee and Kathleen C. Sampson and husband Bob of Bristow; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11at the Kelley Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Brown officiating. Services are under direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

JAMES ALAN CLABORN

James Alan Claborn, 44, of Morris died in Muskogee on Oct. 7, 2001. He was born in Stilwell, Okla., on Aug. 22, 1957 to Orville Claborn and Glenda Jo Cohea.

He was a graduate of Morris High School and was employed by the Okmulgee Ready Mix Company. His father preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Gretta Claborn of Muskogee, two daughters, Christie Claborn and Jamie Hamon, both of Okmulgee; his mother, Glenda Jo Cohea of Muskogee; two brothers, Mike Claborn of Muskogee and Danny Claborn of Morris; one sister, Kelly Ashlock of Okmulgee; his grandmother, Sue Claborn of Okmulgee and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct.11th at the First United Methodist Church of Morris with the Rev. Gary Wilbourn officiating.

Services are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio, 44720.

EMMA (OMA) HOFSESS

Emma (Oma) Hofsess, 95, of Okmulgee died Oct. 9, 2001 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1906 in Berlin, Germany to Wilhelm and Loise Hoepfner.

She was married to Alfred Hofsess on May 11, 1925 in Berlin. They had one daughter, Emmi, who was married to Eldon Jarvis in Landshut, Germany on May 15, 1952. She died Nov.10, 1994 in Okmulgee. Emma and Alfred came to Okmulgee in 1976 to be near their daughter. Alfred died May 2, 1979 in Berlin and Emma returned to Okmulgee in 1980.

Services and survivors will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

PAUL W. HENDERSON

Paul W. Henderson, 69, former Okmulgee resident died Oct. 7, 2001 at his home in Texas. He was born May 26, 1932 in Oklahoma City.

He graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1950 and received his B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1955. He served in the United States Air Force until released from active duty as a captain in November of 1958. He worked his entire career with Exxon Company, U.S.A. and retired in 1992 as the North Zone Production Manager of the Central Production Division after 37 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Millie Hagler Henderson of the home; his brother, Buster and wife June Nickle of Okmulgee; three sons and wives, Mike and Karen, Ron and Janet and Mark and Lisa; two daughters, Denise and Buddy Tolbolka and Kelly Oliver; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 11, at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. Burial will be at Katy, Texas in Katy Magnolia Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Leukemia Society of America Inc., Texas Gulf Coast Chapter at 10777 N.W. Frwy, Suite 600, Houston, Texas in memory of Paul Henderson.

ELLA TARKINGTON

Ella "Lil' Sis" Tarkington, 59, a resident of Okmulgee, died away on Monday morning, October 8, 2001 in her home. Mrs Tarkington was born on May 24, 1942 in Okmulgee, the daughter of Christopher and Claria (Johnson) Bazart.

She attended school in Okmulgee, where she graduated from Dunbar High School with the Class of 1961. She also attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She worked as a Ward Clerk at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital and also St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Ella was an active member of the Eastside Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk, secretary, usher board, a Youth leader and a member of the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Okmulgee Community Choir, active in the Creek District Association, and the Martin Luther King Committee.

Survivors include her children, Adrian Adam Tarkington and Adriene Ann Tarkington of Oklahoma City; a brother, Peter Bazart, Okmulgee; a sister, Clarice Bazart of Okmulgee; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; along with other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. in the Eastside Baptist Church. Reverend Eddie Davis, Sr., will officiate. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Okmulgee.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee. Casket Bearers will be the Dunbar High School Class of 1961.

Visitation will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

JUELL E. TUCKER

Juell Elmo Tucker, 79, a resident of Henryetta, died October 8, 2001. He was born June 24, 1922 in Lovet Hollow, TN to Nona "Poarch" and Elmo Ollie Tucker. He worked as a farmer, truck driver and an evangelist. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Elmo, Nona, Herbert Leon, Lewis, Elihue and Marshall.

He is survived by his wife Ruey Tucker of the home; a son Juell LaWayne Tucker, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; a sister Mary Lois Osborn of Midwest City, OK; two nephews and a niece.

Services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 11, 2001 at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ella Mae Jarvis, officiating. Interment will be at the End Time Revival Tabernacle Cemetery south of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Lester Sullivan, James Page, David Pierce, Chris Pierce, Evert Mallatt and Larry Mallatt.

JOHN "JR." E. LAMKIN

John "Jr." E. Lamkin, 50, a longtime resident of Okmulgee died on Saturday, September 29, 2001 in Tulsa. He was born on August 21,1951 to John Sr. and Roberta (Meneley) Lamkin in Richmond, California.

He was married to Helen Brown on August 27, 1985 in Grayson, Texas. He retired from McDonald Douglas as a paint and body man. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother Robert Lynn Lamkin.

Survivors include his mother, Roberta Lamkin of Okmulgee; wife, Helen Lamkin of the home; one stepson, Billy McDonald of Okmulgee; one stepdaughter, Carol Driver of Okmulgee; one brother, Tom Lamkin, Sr. of Granby, Missouri; two sisters, Marsha Luallen of Okmulgee and Dennise Maddox of Okmulgee; and six grandchildren.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at Kelley Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Bishop Tony Gustin will officiate. Burial will follow in Okmulgee Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Kelley Funeral Home.

ANIE MARIE REESE

Anie Marie Reese, of Okmulgee died Sept. 27, 2001 in Okmulgee. She was born Oct.15, 1911 in Harlan, Iowa.

She was the widow of Leslie B. Reese who died less than two months ago. They lived in Tulsa from 1951 until 1972 when they moved to Okmulgee. She was active in the musical community in Tulsa until 1998 when illness restricted her commute from Okmulgee to Tulsa.

Survivors include a son, Leo C. Larsen; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa under direction of Stanleys Funeral Home.

BOBBY WHEELER

Bobby Wheeler, 61, of Sapulpa and formerly of Okmulgee County died Saturday.

He graduated from Preston High School in 1959 and from Central State College at Edmond in 1962. He received his Masters Degree from Texas A&M in 1968. He served as a teacher, coach and administrator for six schools, including Wilson School in Okmulgee County. He held the Golden Gloves Championship title from 1959 until 1963. He also participated in rodeos, including serving as a judge.

Among survivors are five daughters, Jodi Mitcheltree of Sapulpa, Jamie McElroy of Mounds, Windy Alexander of Tulsa, Billie Jean Wright of Seminole and Bobbie Jo Vincent of Shawnee; two brothers, twin brother, Billy Wheeler of Muskogee and Jim Wheeler of Boynton and a sister, Jane Wheeler of Bixby. He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Wheeler and a grandson, Bryar Wheeler.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sapulpa.

INEZ ANDERSON

Inez Anderson, 82, of Okmulgee died Sept. 30, 2001 in a Kansas City, Mo., hospital. She was born July 24, 1919 in Boley, Okla., to J.W. and Dena (Little) Johnson.

Survivors include three sons, James Anderson of Kansas City, Mo., Ottie Edgar Anderson of Denver, Colo., and Nathaniel Lee Anderson of Denver; a daughter, Janet Cannady of Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ottie "Buddy" Anderson.

Funeral services will be at 11a.m, Saturday, Oct. 6 in the Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. C. J. Jeffrey Jr., officiating.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday from 12 noon until 6 p.m.

IRVING H. HESSOM

Irving Howard "Rusty" Hessom, 65, of Okmulgee died at his home in Grapevine, Texas. He was self-employed in construction work.

Survivors include two sons, Dusty Hessom of Morris and Kirk Hessom; a daughter, Holly Roach and husband Roy of Texas; two grandchildren and his step-mother, Imo Hessom.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Scott Fetgatter officiating. Arrangements are under direction of the Martin-Thompson Funeral Home of Grapevine, Texas.

CHARLES L. MOSS

Charles L. Moss, 82, of Edmond, Okla., and native of Preston, died Sept. 29, 2001 at the Edmond Memorial Hospital from complications following heart surgery. He was born June 5, 1919 in Preston to W. T. and Adeline (Hottenstein) Moss.

He graduated from Preston High School and served the Civilian Conservation Corp., (CCC) in Broken Bow, Okmulgee and Morris. He enlisted in the 45th Infantry when the Division was called to active duty in 1940. He trained at Camp Barkley, Texas, Camp Picket, Va., Camp Devens, Mass. and Camp Pine in New York before assignments in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was a battlefield medic with the 120th Medical Battallion of the 45th Div. He served with the units that liberated Dachua Concentration Camp. He returned from the service in 1945 and attended OSU-Okmulgee. He married Lucille Trease of Morris in June of 1949. He retired as an air condition, heating engineer at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Lucille; four sons, Jim Moss and wife Kay of Edmond, Dr. Gregory Moss and wife Jeanie of Weatherford, Dr. Phillip Moss and wife Peggy of Norman and Kevin Moss and wife Pat of Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn Moss and wife Dorothy of Okmulgee and W.T. Moss and wife Ruth of Sonora, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mabel Houghton of Edmond and a brother, Paul Moss of El Paso.

Services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Edmond under direction of Baggerly Funeral Home and burial was in Edmond Memorial Cemetery.
