JAMES MCCLENDON

James C. McClendon, 54, of Waco, Texas and formerly of Okmulgee died Sept. 17, 2001. He was born July 1, 1947 in Okmulgee to James H. McClendon and Ruth Ella Andrews Chandler.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was disabled.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Ella Andrews Chandler of Okmulgee; his grandmother, Virgie Bell Curley of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Dena Johnson of Tulsa; three brothers, Marcel Foreman of Los Angeles, Alfred Andrews of Tulsa and Elston McClendon of Bryan, Texas; two sisters, Carolyn Foster of Okmulgee and Karen Maireaux of Houston,Texas; two grandchildren and other friends and relatives.

Graveside services will be Friday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., in the Veterans Circle at Okmulgee Cemetery with Rev. David Burks officiating.

Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 539 of Henryetta and VFW post 1189 of Okmulgee. Arrangements are under direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Viewing will be only at the graveside.

E. C. "GENE" BROWN

E.C. "Gene" Brown, 83, a resident of Okmulgee, died Monday, September 17, 2001. He was born May 7, 1918 to Owen and Emma Brown in Nuyaka, Oklahoma.

He was married to Allene Brown on May 18, 1941 in Okmulgee and worked until his retirement as a printing instructor from 1950- 1982.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother and one daughter.

Survivors include wife, Allene of the home; three sisters, Laura Marsh of Tulsa; Eloise Pieffer of Borger, Texas; and Juanita Hood of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Kelley Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Reverend David Sanders will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Odell Carpenter, Alva Rigney, Don Graham, E.C. Smith, Louie Moore and Bill Brown. Services under the direction of Kelley Funeral Home.

URALL O. EDWARDS

Urall O. Evans, 63, of Tulsa died Sept. 16, 2001 at his home. He was born in Idabel on Sept. 8, 1938, the son of Sam and Elzie Edwards.

He attended schools in Idabel and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School there. He married Clarencetta Biglow on April 16, 1970. He was employed by the City of Tulsa as a truck driver for 20 years and also worked as a mechanic. He was a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church in Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a brother and his son.

Survivors include his wife, Clarencetta Edwards of the home; a daughter, Tammie Harris and husband David of Tulsa; a brother, Lawrence Edwards of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Espernola Hopkins of Tulsa, Eunice Jefferson of Dallas, and Bobbye Gordon of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Peace with Rev. Anthony L. Scott Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in OKmulgee under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

Visitation will be Wednesday from12 noon until 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

ELDON LEWIS KANO

Eldon Lewis (aka) Kano, 65, of Hanna, Okla., died Sept.16, 2001 at Hanna. He was born Nov. 28, 1935 in McIntosh County to Jonas Lewis Kano and Alice Simmons.

He was married to Sissie (Factor) Lewis. He visited many of the local churches and enjoyed singing and stomp dances and was a ceremonial leader. He also enjoyed salvaging old vehicles and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Sissie Factor Lewis of the home; daughters, Frances Lewis of Eufaula, Pauline Lewis of Shawnee, Christine Fixico of Dustin and Chippie Lewis of Okemah; sons, Thomas Lewis of Hanna, Sampson Lewis of Henryetta and Harley Lewis of Ada; step-daughters, Linda Hicks of Salem, Laura Beaver of Morris, Loretta Thomas of Okmulgee; adopted daughters, Shelley Jacobs and Crystal Jacobs of Okmulgee; an adopted son, Johnny (BJ) Jacobs, a great-grandson raised as a son, Mose Lewis of Bentonville, Ark.; three brothers, Sonnie Lewis of Dustin, Bunny Lewis of Hanna and Walter Lewis Sr., of Henryetta; a sister, Fannie Barnett of Dewar and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Lewis; a sister, Nahka Carpitcher and a step-daughter, Linna Jacobs.

Wake services will be at Weogufkee Church at Hanna on Wednesday, Sept.19, at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at Weogufkee Church with Rev. Johnson Roberts and Rev. Rudolph Colbert officiating. Casketbearers will be Jeff Fixico, Leo Tiger, J.D. Harley, Sherman Hicks, Smiley Barnett and Ruben Starr. Services are under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home.

NORMA B. GAMMON

Norma B. Gammon, 81, a lifetime resident of Okmulgee, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 in Okmulgee. She was born on Tuesday, September 19, 1919 to Walter Elonzo and Mary Grace (Hart) Willhoite in Okmulgee. She married John E. Gammon on August, 2, 1948 in Okmulgee. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1982; one daughter, Norma Jean Gammon; and one brother, Samuel Arnold Willhoite.

Survivors include two sons, Virgil Gammon and wife Lynn and Jack Gammon and wife Beverly, all of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Sharon Rahimaldin and husband Omar of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Jeannie Matthews and husband Sam of Okmulgee; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2001 at the Kelley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

Visitation is Wednesday, September 19, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday, September 20, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

KIMBERLY ANN LOWE

Kimberly Ann Lowe, 21, of Tulsa died Saturday, Sept.15, 2001. She was born March 3, 1980 in Tulsa to Gloria and Rusty Lowe.

Kim died in a car-pedestrian incident in Tulsa. She attended schools in Tulsa and graduated from East Central High School.

Survivors include her mother Gloria and father Rusty Lowe, brothers, Barry, Vince, Eddie and Will; one sister, Amber; her grandmother, Betsy Factor and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

A Wake Service was held Monday at 7 p.m., at the All Tribes Community Church in Tulsa.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, Sept.18 at the Big Cussetah Church east of Okmulgee with Rev. Alex Lowe and Norman Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the Big Cussetah Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Andrew, Fremen and David Lowe and David, Ronald and Joe Factor.

Arrangements are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

ANN B. PALMER

Ann B. Palmer, 76, of Henryetta died Sept. 13, 2001 at Henryetta.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

Dolly Payne

Dolly Payne, 92, a resident of Okmulgee for over 60 years, died Monday, September 10, 2001 in Okmulgee. She was born on Saturday, January 23, l909 at Ft. William, Ontario, Canada to Harry and Mable (Martin) Spence.

She worked for the Okmulgee Hospital as a medication aide and at age 88 she took classes to receive her United States Citizenship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Seward Payne in 1998; one son, Roy Bradford, and one daughter, Margaret Ann Bell.

Survivors include one son, Robert Dewey Pugh of Centerline, Michigan, one daughter, Lily Edith Blair and husband, Bob of Okmulgee; 10 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and two great- great- grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2001 at the Okmulgee Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Duclous will officiate. Arrangements under the direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

ROBERT J. TURNER

Mr. Robert J. Turner, 81, a longtime resident of Okmulgee County died on Saturday, September 15, 2001. Mr. Turner was born on Monday, March 8, 1920 to Robert and Rosie (Norvell) Turner in Schulter, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy from October 31, 1942 until November I, 1945. He was married to Lola Belden on May 28, 1946 and worked until his retirement for the American Saint Gobain Glass Company in Okmulgee. Mr. Turner was a member of the V.F.W. and the Okmulgee Masonic Lodge # 199 in Okmulgee.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Nadine Zaletel and JoAnn Price.

Survivors include wife, Lola Turner of the home; one son, Robert Louis Turner and wife, Brenda of Okmulgee; five sisters, Maxine Bickell of Claremore, OK., Ida Jane Alsobrooks of Houston, TX., Imogene Cochran of Claremore, OK., Lucille Bickell of Bushyhead, OK., and Mary Ellen Brown of Anderson, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Sheila Fallier and husband, Rusty of Okmulgee, Robert W. Turner and wife, Rhonda of Okmulgee, and Debi Collins and husband, Chris of Okmulgee; and ten great grandchildren.

Services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Dewar. Dr. Audie Swinney and Reverend Jack Vance will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Services under the direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

Military honors will be given by VFW Post 1189 of Okmulgee and Post 539 of Henryetta.

Pallbearers are Derick Weigand, Keith Smith, Dennis Smith, Mickey Stanton, Bart Walker and Daniel Aldridge. Honorary pallbearers are James Churchill, Robert Lee, John Campbell, James Pope, John Ralph, Lorene Aldridge.

TOMAS J. CHICOTE

Tomas J. Chicote, 78, of Muskogee, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2001 in Checotah, OK. Mr. Chicote was born in Okmulgee County May 29, 1923 to Martin L Chicote and Louise (Harjo) Chicote. From 1943 to 1944 before he went into the military he was a lightweight boxer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the VFW. After the military he became an artist and silversmith for many years. April of 2001 he won second place at an art contest for veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents a sister Lillian Washington, a son, Samuel J. Factor and grandson Edward L. Factor, a brother Luther Checotah, and sister Elizabeth Davis.

Survivors include a son Ben Checotah, a daughter Anita Leybas and their mother Juanita Checotah all of Okmulgee, a sister Delilah Betsillie of Tulsa, a brother Clint Checotah of Muskogee eight grandchildren LaDonna Tate of Lewisville, TX, Tom Factor of Shawnee, OK, Juanita Brown of Morris, OK and Ben Factor of Okmulgee, Shondae Checotah, Michael Leybas, Jr., Eli Leybas and Zachary Checotah, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Wake service was 7:00 pm Monday, September 17, 2001 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee.

Funeral services are at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at the Newtown Methodist Church in Okmulgee. Interment will follow in the Newtown Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee

Casketbearers will be Zachary Checotah, Albert Leybas, Glen Brown, Shondae Checotah, Tom Factor and Ben Factor.

Honorary Casketbearers are Jason Rutledge and Tim Shirley.

WILLIAM CRAWFORD JR.

William Arnold Crawford Jr., 44, of Okmulgee died Sept.9, 2001 in an Oklahoma City Hospice Unit. He was born Aug. 17,1957 to William Crawford Sr., and the late Martha (LeBlanc) Crawford.

Survivors include his father, William Arnold Crawford Sr., of Okmulgee; brothers, Martin Anthony LeBlanc of Chicago, Jerry T. LeBlanc of Tulsa, and Edgar Hanson and Larry Simpkins of Okmulgee; sisters, Deborah K. Walston and Janice Hubbard of Tulsa, Linda B. Jefferson of Okmulgee, Martha S. Crawford of Las Vegas, Nev., and Annette Crawford of Nashville, Tenn.; eight nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept.12, at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Okmulgee.

YANNAH HAYNES

Yannah F. Haynes, 89, of Henryetta died Sept.10, 2001 at Henryetta. She was born Nov. 11, 1911 in McIntosh County to Eblo Fields and Toochee (Arbuckle) Fields.

She was a member of the Hickory Ground #1 Indian Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Haynes, two sisters, Lizzie Tiger and Annie Haynes and a granddaughter, Sabina.

Survivors include a son, Harold Haynes and wife Liz of Wewoka; three granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren, seven nieces, five nephews and other relatives and friends.

Wake services will be at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Shurden Chapel. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m, at the Shurden Chapel with Alex Lowe officiating. Burial will be in the Taylor Family Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.
