TILTON BATTS

Tilton "Soda" Batts, 79, a resident of Henryetta and formerly of Okmulgee, died Aug. 24 at his home. He was born July 14, 1922 in Bristow to James and Annie (Adams) Batts.

A 20-year veteran of the United States Army, he also worked at the meatpacking plant. He also served on the Okmulgee Police Auxiliary Force.

Survivors include his wife, Ann of the home; two daughters, Debby Arnold and Cheri Hertzenburger, both of Tulsa; four grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug.30 in the Precious Memories Chapel with Dan Corder officiating.

Military Honors will be conducted at the Okmulgee Cemetery in the Veterans Circle by the Okmulgee VFW Post 1189 and Henryetta VFW Post 531 immediately following the service. Cremation supervised by the House of Winn Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA I. PATTERSON

Virginia I. Patterson, age 77, of Okmulgee, died Monday, August 27, 2001 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born June 20, 1924 in Tahlequah, OK to Willie and Hettie (Nodine) Slape.

Virginia worked as a nurse aide for many years in the Tulsa-Okmulgee area and was a member of the New Life Assembly of God Church in Okmulgee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. Patterson; two sons, Kenneth D. Patterson and Raymond L. Patterson, as well as 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Patterson and wife, Sue; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.

Memorials in her honor may be sent to the New Life Assembly of God Church in Okmulgee or the National Diabetes Association.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2001 at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.

JACK R. RICHEY

Jack Robert Richey Jr., 53, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and formerly of Henryetta, died Aug. 29, 2001 at Colorado Springs. He was born Aug. 9, 1948 at Henryetta to John Robert Richey Sr., and Wilma (Marshall) Richey.

He was married to Rebecca Parker on June 5, 1982 at Sapulpa. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca of the home in Colorado Springs; a son, Scott Richey of Chesapeake, Va.; three daughters, Alisha Richey of Colorado Springs, Amanda Pocan of Ft. Hood, Texas and Victoria Richey of Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother, Wilma Moore and husband Dale of Schulter; a brother, Gary Thomas of Schulter; a sister, Connie Johnson of Canton, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m., at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. Burial was at Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

MELVIN KELOUGH

Melvin Kelough, 75, died Monday, September 3, 2001 in Okmulgee. He was born on October 10, 1925 in Hitchita, OK to William Arthur and Hattie Mae (Shipman) Kelough. He married Betty (Castleberry) on May 27, 1948 in Checotah, OK. He graduated from Hitchita Schools and OSU Tech for jewelry and watch repair. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the DAV of Okmulgee. He was a member of the Crosstown Pentecostal Holiness Church and worked at the smelter and as security for OSU Tech.

Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; three sons, William Jarrett Kelough and wife Janet of Yukon, OK, Melvin Michael Kelough of Okmulgee, and Roger Dale Kelough of the home; one daughter, Valorie Jean Kennedy and husband Danny of Wilson, OK, one sister, Mildred Horn of Reedley, CA; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, one niece and two nephews.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Crosstown Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Willis Baldridge and Forrest Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at the Lackey Cemetery tn Hitchita. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

Pallbearers for the service will be Grant Griffin, George Brant, Bud Stange, Allen Kirby, Jim LeMaster and Floyd Baldridge.

BOBBIE COUNTS

Bobbie Counts, 74, of Beggs passed away Saturday, September 1, 2001 at a Tulsa Hospital. She was born to Otis and Viola (Roundtree) Martin. Mrs. Counts was a School Superintendent secretary working for some of the local school districts for many years. She attended the First Baptist Church in Mounds and loved to go fishing and go to watch ball games. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband Henry W. "Bill" Counts who passed away in 1977 and a grandson Mark Jordan Fleming who passed away in 2000.

Survivors include a son Hal Counts and his wife Vicki of Morris, a daughter Marsha Norman and husband Mike of Beggs, OK, a daughter Brenda Truesdell of Mounds, a son Greg Counts also of Mounds, brothers and sisters Otis Martin Jr., Maddie Hunley both of Ada, OK, Betty Hunley of New Lennox, IL, Jerry Martin of Fort Cobb, OK, nine grandchildren, Tracie Fleming and husband Mark of Burleson, TX, Kellie Nelson and husband David Nelson of Savannah, GA, Justin Norman of Beggs, Ryan Norman of Norman, OK, Reese Truesdell of Mounds, Hailee Truesdell of Mounds, Stephanie Counts of Morris, Caleb Counts and Cailsey Counts of Mounds, and four Great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Beggs with the Pastor Steve Hawley and Mr. Lynn Bellamy officiating. Burial will follow in the Checotah Cemetery in Checotah, OK under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs, OK.

Casketbearers will be Mark Fleming, David Nelson, Justin Norman, Ryan Norman, Reese Truesdell and Caleb Counts.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 4, 2001 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Beggs, OK

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to The First Baptist Church in Beggs, The First Baptist Church in Mounds or the American Cancer Society.

BILLY WAYNE DOYLE

Billy Wayne Doyle, infant son of John and Darla Doyle, was born and died Aug. 29, 2001 in Tulsa.

A private family burial will be held in the Beggs Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

BENNY MCDERMOTT

Benny McDermott, 65, of Dustin died Aug. 29, 2001 at his home. He was born April 7, 1936 in Henryetta to Jessie McDermott and Sallie (Scott) McDermott.

He was married to Reba Johnson. He had been a member of the Yardeka Indian Baptist Church for two years. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jesse McDermott, Chanie Jones, and Ed Jones and a sister, Mandy McNac.

Survivors include two daughters, Thelma McDermott of Tulsa and Velma Osceola of Bristow; two brothers, LeRoy McDermott of Glenpool and Ralph Henneba of Okemah; two sisters, Nancy Jones of Henryetta and Betty Bear of Dustin and six grandchildren.

Wake Services will be Friday at 7 p.m., at the Yardeka Indian Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Saturday Sept.1 at 10 a.m., at the church with burial to follow in the church grounds. Arrangements are under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home of Henryetta.

ALICE MAE LIPPS

Alice Mae Lipps, 82, of Vinita and formerly of Dewar died Aug. 27, 2001at Anthony, Kansas. She was born March 3, 1919 at Vian, Okla., to Charlie and Dela Smith.

She moved to Dewar as a child and lived there until 1960 when she and her husband moved to Anaheim, Calif. After her husband's retirement in 1974 they returned to Dewar where she continued to reside after his death. She moved to Vinita in 1993 to be near her family. She was married to Morris Gene Lipps on Nov. 8, 1942.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Verna Blomquist of Anthony, Kan., a brother-in-law, Eddie Swafford of Tulsa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Wallace, Bill and Charles Smith Jr.; and four sisters, Anice Martin, Lorene Ray, Mary Swafford and an infant sister.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 31 at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Danny Thomas Children's Hospital or to Hospice, Inc., in memory of Alice Lipps.

IOLA PETERS

Iola Peters, 83, of Okmulgee died Aug. 22, 2001 at her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1917 in Oklahoma to Jim and Florine (Dozier) Evans.

Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be conducted Friday, Aug. 31 in the Mt. Calvary Miracle Temple at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Old Post Oak Cemetery at Beggs under direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.
