JIM "BUD' WILLHITE

Rev. Jim "Bud" Willhite, 86, of Dewar died Aug. 2, 2001 at Clarkston, Mich. He was born Dec. 25, 1914.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene; one son, Thomas Dale and twin brother Rev. Sonny Willhite, who died five weeks ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Scotten and husband Guy of Clarkston, Mich.; a son Rev. Ron Willhite and wife JoAnn of Roswell, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Janie Willhite of California; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the United Pentecostal Church in Dewar at 10:30 a.m., with Dr. Ronald Willhite officiating. Burial will be in the New Sonora Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

MARY B. PHILLIPS

Mary Brantley Phillips, 66, of the Nuyaka Community died Aug. 3, 2001 in a Tulsa hospital. She was born April 14, 1935 in Chicago, Ill.

She grew up and attended school in Chicago where she worked as a nurse and drove a city bus for a number of years. She moved to Oklahoma in 1983 and married her husband Oscar Phillips in 1984. She was a member of the Northside Evangelist Temple in Preston.

Survivors include her husband Oscar of the home in Nuyaka; her brothers and sisters in Chicago and other relatives and friends.

Services of Memory will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Northside Evangelist Temple with Elder Ralph Bagby officiating. Burial will follow in the Nuyaka Cemetery. Services are under direction of the Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m., until 7p.m., at the funeral home.

BOBBY HINTON

Bobby Hinton, 56, formerly of Henryetta died Aug. 6, 2001at Stillwater.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

BETTY RUTH TOURRET

Betty Ruth Tourret, 73, of Schulter died Aug. 6, 2001. She was born April 11,1928 at Henryetta to Daniel Sisemore and Hortie (Eubanks) Sisemore.

She was married to Antone (Tony) Tourret on Oct.18, 1952 at Henryetta. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Loyd, Paul and Joe Sisemore.

Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, Danny and wife Sue of Schulter and Kevin Tourrett of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a daughter, Toni Lemay of Schulter; two grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Likowski of Moore and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will beat 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 9 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Simmons officiating, assisted by Rev. George Christy. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Pierce, Robert Frost, Marvin Boatright, Don Polston, David Bolt and Jerry Vail.

ROSEMARY CARMAN

Rosemary Carman, 76, of Okemah died Aug 7, 2001.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home.

RAYMOND DAVIS

Raymond Davis, a resident of Henryetta passed away Aug 2, 2001 In Henryetta at the age of 76. Born Sept. 4, 1924 in Spiro, Ok to Menicy (Durbin) and Alfred Davis. Ray was a longtime resident of Henryetta with many friends and close family.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was wounded January 18, 1945 in Belgium, received the Purple Heart, 4 Bronze Stars and was sent to the old Glennan General Hospital to convalesce. He met Billie Wade, daughter to the late Barto and Velma Wade in Henryetta and was married on November 10, 1945 in Okemah. They made their home in Henryetta. Ray went on to work at the Starr Mine and later at the Blackstone. When the mines closed, Ray worked at various jobs to support his family, ranging from the oilfields in west Texas to construction of the Minute Man Missile sites in the early 60's. The family left Henryetta in 1962 and moved to Nebraska and then on to North Dakota. In 1966 Ray became a coal miner again and was a member of the UMWA. He was always a staunch supporter of the unions. He raised and educated his family thru good times and bad with strikes, low wages and dangerous working conditions, always striving to make the life of the working man better.

Survivors include his Wife: Billie Davis of the home; Son: Dr. Brent Davis of Henryetta; Daughters: Billie Brannon of Morris, Lynda Brown of Poteau, Ok, Debbie Hickman of Henryetta, and Brooke Parton of Henryetta;13 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; a Sister; Lydia Crase Harrell of Stigler; Brother: Lewis Davis of Spiro, and mother-in-law Velma Wade.

Services were held Monday, August 6, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was a private service at the Davis Family Cemetery.

DAVID EARL HAMMON

David Earl Hammon, 52, of Beggs died July 31, 2001 in a Tulsa hospital. He was born in Okmulgee on Aug. 28, 1948, the son of Martin Hammon Sr., and Ollie W. (Watkins) Hammon.

He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 13, 1969 to Dec. 23, 1971. He was married to the former Valerie Jackson on Oct. 10, 1973. He then resided in Oakland, Calif., until moving to Beggs in 1997.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Valerie of the home in Beggs; his son, David Hammon Jr., of Oakland, Calif., daughters, Onna DeFreeze of Tulsa and Soanna Hammon of Okmulgee; his mother, Ollie Wishie Hammon of Okmulgee; brothers, Bernard Hammon, Martin Hammon Jr., Martin C. Hammon and John Russell Hammon, all of Okmulgee; and Leonard Barber of Tulsa; sisters, Betty Mosely, Carolyn Harris, Wanda Lou Goudeau, Marilyn Banks, Sarah Fultz and Shanna McKnight, all of Tulsa, Dianna Humphrey of Okmulgee, Rae Ann LIttlejohn of Kansas, Claudette Butcher of Okmulgee and Marcia Lee Gaines of Beggs; five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be held at the Eastside Baptist Church on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Eddie Davis Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Okmulgee under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.

Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

HERBERT PANGLE

Herbert I. Pangle Jr., 71, of Weleetka died Aug. 3, 2001 at Weleetka.

Services are pending with the Rogers Funeral Home of Henryetta.

WINSTON CHARLES MAYS

Winston Charles Mays, 71, of Broken Arrow and formerly of Okmulgee died July 30, 2001. He was born Dec. 31, 1929 in Messer, Okla., to Baner and Ida Gertrude (Kilgore) Mays.

He lived in Okmulgee until 25 years ago when he moved to Tulsa. While in Okmulgee he was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Okmulgee Country Club and was affiliated with OKC Refining. He was a Mason and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Shelba Jean Doyle on Nov. 4, 1987 in Tulsa. He was a retired crude oil trader having owned the Petrol Products, Inc.

Survivors include his wife Shelba of the home; a son, Winston Charles Mays Jr. and his wife Sandy of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters, Karen Streight of Norman, Robin Benoit and husband Brian of Jacksonville, Fla., and Valarie Van Zandt of Owasso; brothers, Ray Mays of Houston, Thelbert Hopper of Sweeney, Texas, Roy Hopper of Houston and Jimmy Dean Hopper and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 2 in the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Tulsa with Rev. Nelson Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Floral Haven Cemetery under direction of Ninde Woodland Funeral Directors of Tulsa.

FRED COSPER

Fred Cosper, 68, of Henryetta died July 31, 2001 in Tulsa.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home.

ELSIE SCHUMACHER

Elsie Ruth Schumacher, 80, of Bixby and formerly of Okmulgee died July 29, 2001 in Tulsa. She was born Feb. 27, 1921 in Marlow to V. J. Carson and Alvena Pennebaker Carson.

She graduated from high school in Duncan and from Central State University. She married William Schumacher on Dec 25, 1943. She taught at Verden before moving to Okmulgee. She taught third grade and conversational Spanish in the Okmulgee Public School system before going to Oklahoma State University Technical College where she was head of the Business Department until her retirement.

Survivors include her husband William of the home; one son, Ronald Carson Schumacher of Bristow; one daughter, Melinda Hagy of Bixby; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as a host of other family and friends.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 2 at the Bixby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Davis and Rev. James Hayes officiating. Entombment will be at Magnolia Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Bristow under direction of the Schumacher Funeral Home of Bristow and Bixby Funeral Service.

PAULINE F. ANDERSON

Pauline Fleming Anderson, 88, of Sulphur died July 28, 2001at Sulphur. She was born Dec.27, 1912 at Bevier, Ky., to Louis Fleming and Ruth (Williams) Fleming.

She was a registered nurse in Henryetta for many years.

Survivors include one sister, Unice Nunley of Sulphur and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 31 at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.
