BETTIE L. FITE

Bettie Louise Carlton Fite, 80, former Okmulgee resident, died June 26, 2001 in Tulsa. She was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Yeager, Okla., to Rachel (Smith) and Redgel Carlton.

On June 1, 1943, she married Elvin Fite of Pecan Grove. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last month. She was a past assistant county assessor. She had also worked as an assistant manager for Standard Grocery in Oklahoma City and at J. C. Penney's Department Store. Her most recent employment was as a secretary for Oklahoma State College in Okmulgee, now Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee. She was a member of Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow and had served as a Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ann Taylor and her brother, Lonnie Carlton.

Survivors include her husband, Elvin Fite of the home; two daughters, Glenda Lendvay and husband Laz of Chandler, Ariz., and Jan Elliott and husband Bruce of Palm Coast, Fla.; a son, Ron Fite and wife Lauren of Tulsa; two brothers, Cecil Carlton of California and Homer Carlton of Kansas; two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 30 at Hudson-Phillips Chapel in Holdenville with Rev. George Christy officiating. Burial was in the Holdenville Cemetery under direction of the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.

VIRGIE I. MURRAY

Virgie Irene (Parsons) Murray, 84, of Eufaula and a former Okemah & Okmulgee area resident died July 1, 2001. She was born April 17, 1917 at Henryetta to Ira Parsons and Zula Gertrude (Thomas) Parsons.

She married Alvin Lee Murray in 1938. She was a homemaker and member of the Weleetka Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and Alvin Lee, her husband of 62 years.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Dan Thompson of Eufaula; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, an aunt, and four step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 5 at the Okemah Cemetery. Pastor Milton Gleghorn will officiate, assisted by Tom Murray.

Gregg Funeral Home of Eufaula will be in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m, until 8 p.m.

BOBBY OSBORN

Bobby Osborn, 68, died Sunday, July 1, 2001 at Ardmore. He was born July 8, 1932 to Emory and Betty (Green) Osborn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Limon Osborn.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Monday, July 2 at the Mounds Cemetery with Rev. Jeffery Brown officiating. Services were under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

ROLAND LOUNSBURY

Roland Lounsbury, 73, of Porum died June 28, 2001. He was born June 14, 1928 in Bangor, Maine to Harold and Doris Riley Lounsbury.

He was married to Lillian Lounsbury on June 10, 1950 in Santiago Calif. He worked for Kelco for 38 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold Lounsbury.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jerald Lounsbury of Coronada, Calif., and Earl Lounsbury of Okmulgee; a daughter, Doris Bain of Okmulgee; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Monday, July 2 at 1 p.m., at Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

WILLIAM "PAUL" LITSEY

William "Paul" Litsey, 78, of Henryetta died Friday, June 29, 2001 in Tulsa.. He was born on April 16, 1923 in Muskogee County, OK to James and Kathline Litsey. He was maried to Elizabeth Atwood on November 16, 1942 in Henryetta, OK. He worked for PPG for 30 years.

He was a member of the Henryetta Church of Christ, and a member of V.F.W. Post 539.

He is preceded in death by hiss parents, a son, William Paul Litsey, Jr., a daughter, Ginger Litsey, and one brother, Harvey Litsey.

Survivors include His wife Elizabeth Litsey of the home, a son, Ronald Litsey of Oklahoma City, OK, a brother, Charley Litsey of Okmulgee, three sisters, Juanita Harjo of Tulsa, Mary Peterson of California, and Louise Gragg of California, and two grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday, July 3 at 10a.m. at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Walker officiating. Burial will be at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

GEORGE DEERINWATER

George Amos Deerinwater, 66, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died June 25, 2001 in a Scottsdale nursing home. He was born Oct. 15, 1934 in Braggs, OK to Henry and Louise (Hicks) Deerinwater.

He grew up in Okfuskee County. He moved to Arizona in 1952 but returned to Okemah in 1982 to care for his parents. He returned to Arizona six years ago where he remained until his death. He was a construction worker. He served in the Air Force and was a member of the Buckeye Baptist Church at Okemah.

Survivors include six daughters, Melinda Deerinwater of Okmulgee, Christine Lewis, Janice VanWinkle, Sherri Barton, Georgene Deerinwater and April Jensen, all of Scottsdale; one son, Canaan Deerinwater of Tahlequah; three sisters, Susana Bear, and Rosalie Dixon of Okemah and Lavena Pearson of Bristow; two brothers, Alex and Gary Deerinwater of Bristow and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Deerinwater.

Wake services will be Friday, June 29, at 7 p.m., at the Buckeye Baptist Church in Okemah. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Buckeye Baptist Church under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home.

JOHN CHARLES HELMS

John Charles Helms, 54, of Henryetta died June 22, 2001. He was born Jan. 23, 1947 in Drumright to Ray Helms and Melva Wood.

He was married to Victoria Hopkins on June 27, 1978 in Okmulgee. He was an industrial construction worker with HMH Industrial Construction. He attended Central State University in Edmond. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Ray Helms; his sister, Dianna Wood, and Baby Girl Sissy Helms.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria Helms of Henryetta; his son, Jo Jo Helms, Henryetta; his mother, Melva Helms Wood of Kingfisher; two sisters, Leshia Smith of Pilot Point, Texas and Delores Alton of Duncanville, Okla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Monty Wood of Longview, Texas; and his mother-in-law, Ruth Hopkins of Henryetta.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 28 at 2 p.m., at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Doyle Loveland officiating under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

REV. 'SONNY' WILHITE

Rev. Wilson "Sonny" Wilhite, 86, of Henryetta died June 24, 2001. He was born Dec. 25, 1914.

He was married to Georgia Dodge on Aug. 28, 1936. He was a licensed minister of the United Pentecostal Church and pastored for many years the East Main United Pentecostal Church in Henryetta. He has been a member of the Dewar United Pentecostal Church for the past 24 years.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia of the home; twin brother, Jim "Bud" Willhite of Dewar; daughter, Fern and husband John Crouch of Henryetta; son, Eddie Willhite of Henryetta; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and seven step great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Dewar United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the New Sonora Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

LON J. SWINDELL

Lon J. Swindell, 81, a former resident of Schulter, died Friday, June 22, in Tulsa. He was born January 22, 1920 in Schulter, OK to Lon and Blanche (Rowland) Swindell. He was married to Louise Featherston on November 30, 1946 in Tulsa.

He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Metal. Mr. Swindell attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a MBA. Later, he attended the College of the Armed Forces and the George Washington University. He was a member of the Masons and was Master of the Masonic Lodge in Washington, D.C. for some time.

Mr. Swindell worked for the U.S. Navy as a civilian. He was very generous and liked doing things for people. He liked photography and was n avid Rock Hound.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Carl Swindell, and one sister, Dorothy Clemons.

Survivors include his wife, Louise of the home, one brother, Thomas Swindell of Seal Beach, CA, and one sister, Mildred Rodgers of Long Beach, CA.

Services will be held Monday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Remberto Pino, Keith Collins, Loren Dohm, Mark Steele, Donnie Smith, and "Chip" Webster.

CHARLES THOMAS ADAIR

Charles Thomas Adair, 95, of Henryetta, died Friday, June 22, in Henryetta. Mr. Adair was born on September 19, 1905 in Winfield, TX.

Services are pending under the direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

ALLAN F. JOHNSTON

Alan Fredrick Johnston died peacefully at home on Friday June 15, 2001, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Suzanne and his children, David, Christy and Jeffrey.

Allan came to Los Alamos in 1993 when he accepted a position as controller and chief financial officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory. "He thoroughly enjoyed the staff and employees of LANL's Business Operations Division (BUS) and most days looked forward to the challenges and opportunities that his position offered," said Suzanne Johnston. "He spoke with pride about the dedication, talent and performance of the BUS employees who continued to be a source of strength and support to our family during Allan's illness. He also enjoyed his tenure as president of the LANL, Foundation and did all he could to help improve the lives of young people in northern New Mexico. "

Dylan was born Nov. 22, 1942 in Pawhuska, Okla. He received both his bachelor and master's degrees in mathematics, in 1965 and 1970 respectively, from the University of Oklahoma. He attended Okmulgee High School and returned to Okmulgee in Sept. 2000 for his 40th class reunion, where he saw old friends and renewed acquaintances with former classmates.

Allan served in the United States Army from 1965 through 1967. He worked for Arthur A. Anderson and Union Carbide before joining Pacific Northwest Laboratories, Richland, WA., in 1980 as chief financial officer and controller.

"Allan was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic Oklahoma Sooner fan" Suzanne said. "He could often be found on the practice range at the Los Alamos Golf Course at mid-day, preferring to practice his swing instead of eating lunch. He found time to play golf with good friends at home and away as open as possible and looked forward to returning to Norman, Okla. each fall to attend a Sooner's football game. "

Allan is also survived by his mother, Ferol Johnston; his sister and brother-in-law, Luana and Larry Dickerson of Okmulgee, Okla., their three children Kellie, Bob and Brooke, his father-in-law John O'Neil of Gearhart, Ore,, his wife's aunt, Yvonne O'Neil of Gearhart, Ore.; his wife's aunt, Yvonne O'Neil of Los Alamos; his grandson, Troy; and Kellie's two sons, Robert and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Johnston, and his mother-in-law, Elvira O'Neil.

"Alan was a loving father, an adored husband and a wonderful son to his father-in-law," Suzanne added. His time with his grandson, Leroy, who will turn four on June 22nd, was much too short.

"We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to friends and co-workers who have been so supportive and understanding during Allan's illness", said Suzanne.

A memorial service will be held in Los Alamos on Monday, June 25, at 3 p.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. There will be a reception after the service at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service, 116 Central Park Square, Los Alamos, NM 87544 or to the newly established Alan F. Johnston Scholarship at the LANL Foundation, 1850 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87505.

Services are under the direction of the DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.
