BILLY GENE BELL

Billy Gene Bell of Okmulgee died May 31, 2001 at Muskogee.

Arrangements are pending with the Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

PERRY O. MARTIN

Perry O. Martin, 69, of Henryetta died June 5, 2001 at Henryetta. He was born Feb. 14, 1932 in Dustin to Oscar Martin and Belva Deer Martin.

He was married to Laverne Tweedy on Dec. 17, 1951 in Okmulgee. He attended the Henryetta Freewill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Carl and

Oscar Martin and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Perry O. Martin Jr. of Henryetta and Larry Wayne Martin of Surprise, Ariz.; three sisters, Edna Harbuck of Henryetta, Helen Hardy of Carney, Okla., and Catherine Watkins of Luther, Okla.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m., at the Dustin Cemetery with Rev. John Staggs officiating. Burial will be in the Dustin Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

GEORGIA M. SPURGEON

Georgia Marie Spurgeon, 92, longtime resident of Okmulgee County, died June 4, 2001in Okmulgee. She was born in Bebee, Ark., on Aug.19, 1908 to Joseph B. and Effie Ola (Harrison) Cullins.

She was a member of the Liberty Morris Baptist Church. Her parents, her husband Jess Henry Spurgeon and a daughter, Geogia Mae McCorkle preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, LaVada and Sam Bennett of Liberty Morris; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald J. and Judy Spurgeon of Liberty Morris; son-in-law, Al McCorkle of Augusta, Ga., eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7 at 10 a.m., at the Liberty Morris Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Ward and Rev. Vic Letbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Morris Cemetery under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Chat Grimmett, Jamie Dixon, Allen Walters, Roy King, Carl King, Jack Whomble, Brian Leist, Pete Turney, Dewey Turney and Darrell Tanner.

Visitation will be in the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Morris from 10:00 a.m., until 8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 6.

LEODORA DAVIS-JACKSON

Leodora F. Davis-Jackson, 82, of St. Louis, Mo., and Okmulgee died May 31, 2001 in Okmulgee. She was born June 16, 1918 in Okmulgee, the daughter of Steven Frederick and Emma (Simmons) Davis.

She grew up in Okmulgee and attended the Dunbar School system, graduating from Dunbar High School with the class of 1934. She had lived in St. Louis for more than 50 years, but since 1984, she and her sister have regularly returned to the home place in Okmulgee. She attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis where she earned her B.S. Degree. She worked for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department where she was the first uniformed African-American policewoman. She later worked for the City of St. Louis Parole office before her retirement in 1983. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ira Jackson in 1976.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Brogan of Bridgeport, Conn.; her sister, Lillian Harris of St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandsons along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, June 8 at 11 a.m., at Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church. Father Bryan Brooks will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Okmulgee. Services will be under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 6 at 12 noon at the family home, 502 North Severs. On Friday, Mrs. Jackson's remains and the family will procession from the home to the church beginning at 10:30 a.m.

BILLY GENE BALL

Billy Gene Ball, 78, of Okmulgee died May 31, 2001 at Muskogee. He was born on February 2, 1923 in Okemah to John William and Ethel (Epperson) Ball. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a former city councilman for the city of Okmulgee and a member of the D.A.V. of Okmulgee. He retired as a mechanic for Fred Jones Ford in Tulsa and worked on the rodeo circuit with Jim Shoulders.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Smith of Henryetta and Rosemarie Ball of Okmulgee; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Tuesday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the V.F.W. Post #1189 of Okmulgee and Post #589 of Henryetta. James Nichols officiated the services. Arrangements were under the direction of Kelley Funeral Home.

Friends and family were invited for visitation on Monday, June 4 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

TIMOTHY L. HERMAN

Timothy Lester Herman died June 2, 2001 in Tulsa.

Survivors include his wife, Dianna Herman of Okmulgee; his mother, Irma Herman of Okmulgee; a brother, Paul Herman of Plano, Texas; a stepson, Alan Pendergraft of Tulsa, an aunt, an uncle, nieces, nephews and several cousins.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 5 at Rose Hill Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

DAVID WAYNE DEJEAR

David Wayne DeJear, 44, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Bristow, Oklahoma died on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in Oklahoma City. He was born on January 5, 1957 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of Marshall and Irene (Ross) DeJear.

He grew up in rural Bristow and attended school in Slick, Oklahoma and graduated from Bristow High School, Class of 1975. He then attended Central State University and received his degree from Langston University. He was an independent sales representative for ACN and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic in Oklahoma City.

Family members include his parents, Marshall and Irene DeJear, Bristow, OK; his step-children, Ashley and Kristine, both of Oklahoma City, OK; his brothers, Marvin DeJear, Sr., Minneapolis, MN, Dwight DeJear, Oklahoma City OK, and Kenneth DeJear, Tulsa, OK; his sister, Helen DeJear, Tulsa, OK; along with a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Okmulgee. Father Bryan Brooks will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Beggs City Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee, OK.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Uganda Martyrs Church.

SUE ELLEN KISSEE

Sue Ellen Kissee,72, longtime resident of Beggs died Friday morning, June 1, 2001 at her home. She was born Feb. 25, 1929 in Beggs to Charlie and Lydia Anne (Conn) Mackey. She married DeLance Kissee on October 30, 1948 in Beggs. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Beggs Senior Citizen Center from 1979 to 1989. She enjoyed quilting and flowers, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beggs.

Mrs. Kissee was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Ruby Lawrence, Ruth Bristow, Pearl Patterson, and Billy Nell Rutledge, and three brothers, George, Allen, and Dutch Mackey.

Survivors include her husband, DeLance, of the home, two sons, Dan Kissee and wife Debbie of Beggs and Dale Kissee and wife Pam of Chugiak, Alaska, a daughter, Linda Crenshaw and husband Gary of Twin Hills, three sisters, Joan Crider of Eufaula, Anne Mae Warnock of Beggs, and Mary Katherine Hastings of Independence, MO, three brothers, Charles Mackey of Fritch, TX, Orville Mackey of Duncan, and Alvin Mackey of Beggs, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Beggs with the Rev. Tom Tidwell officiating. Casketbearers will be Gordon Anderson, Richard Titsworth, Bill Chorette, Bill Anderson, Dale Kiddy, and Jay Mills. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

FRANKIE ENGEBRETSEN

Frankie Lee Thompson Engebretsen, 82, longtime Okmulgee resident, died May 30, 2001 in Biloxi, Miss. She was born Sept. 28, 1918 at Kiefer, Okla., to Layton A. and Iva L. Starkey.

She was a homemaker and active in home extension and the Senior Citizens Nutrition Center. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and a volunteer at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyod Thompson, her second husband George Rousseau and her third husband Edwin Engebretsen.

Survivors include a son, William and wife Emmagene Thompson of Shelby, Miss., a daughter Geneva and husband George Piersall of Tulsa, daughter, Kam and husband Dale Wygant of Kennerdell, Pa., a son Dan and wife Sue Thompson of Eufaula, a daughter, Joan and husband Eddie McGuire of Biloxi, Miss., and a daughter, Gail Thompson of Wichita Falls, Texas; 15 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Albert Starkey of Okmulgee and James Starkey of Wichita, Kan.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 4 at 2 p.m., at the First Christian Church in Okmulgee with Minister O. Edmund Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery in Okemah under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

Friends may visit the funeral home Sunday from 1until 8 p.m. The family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends between 2 and 5p.m., Sunday.

LEODORA DAVIS-JACKSON

Leodora F. Davis-Jackson, 82, of Okmulgee died May 31, 2001 at her home.

Survivors include her sister, Lillian Harris of the home, along with other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are pending with the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Home, Inc., of Okmulgee.
