DAVID WAYNE DEJEAR

David Wayne DeJear, 44, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Bristow, Oklahoma died on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 in Oklahoma City. He was born on January 5, 1957 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of Marshall and Irene (Ross) DeJear.

He grew up in rural Bristow and attended school in Slick, Oklahoma and graduated from Bristow High School, Class of 1975. He then attended Central State University and received his degree from Langston University. He was an independent sales representative for ACN and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Praternity, Inc. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic in Oklahoma City.

Family members include his parents, Marshall and Irene DeJear, Bristow, OK; his step-children, Ashley and Kristine, both of Oklahoma City, OK; his brothers, Marvin DeJear, Sr., Minneapolis, MN, Dwight DeJear, Oklahoma City OK, and Kenneth DeJear, Tulsa, OK; his sister, Helen DeJear, Tulsa, OK; along with a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Okmulgee. Father Bryan Brooks will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Beggs City Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee, OK.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 3, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Uganda Martyrs Church.

WILLIAM OSBORN

William Osborn, 91, of Okmulgee died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 25, 1909 in Oceola, Mo., to Jack Andrew and Bertha Ellen (Long) Osborn.

He retired in 1974 from Union Oil Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Okmulgee. He loved to garden and took the items he grew to the Senior Citizens Center to share them. He was a direct descendant to one of three Long brothers who fought in the Battle of Yorktown in 1781. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell M. (Copelin) Osborn; a son, James C. Osborn; his mother, father and five brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Osborn and his wife, Sharon "Kay" Osborn of Moore, OK; daughter-in-law, Ernestine Osborn of Arlington, TX; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church in Okmulgee with the Reverend Lawrence Matlock officiating . Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Pallbearers will be William Fuller, David Morgan, Luther Polk, Joshua Polk, Kenneth Wilson and Muriel Wright.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m., until 8 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2001.

ALICE F. LUMPKIN

Alice F. Lumpkin, 91, lifelong Okmulgee resident, died May 29, 2001 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept 5,1909 in Okmulgee to Gus and Mary Agnes (Galleger) Forbes.

She attended St. Mary of the Wood in Illinois and became an elementary school teacher at Emerson Elementary in Okmulgee. She married W. D. "Doss" Lumpkin who preceded her in death along with her parents. She was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church where she was an organist for many years and a member of the Alter Society.

Survivors include one sister, Eileen Eurton of Norman and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

JOSEPH F. MUSSA SR.

Joseph F. "Chubby" Mussa Sr., 89, of Henryetta died May 28, 2001in OKmulgee. He was born Nov. 7, 1911 in Corona, Kan., to Bisy Mussa and Disiree (Longerot) Mussa.

He was married to Bonnie Cummings on Aug. 30, 1930 in Okmulgee. He was a coal miner for many years and retired in 1977 from PPG Industries in Beaumont,Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1977, a son, Robert Eugene Mussa in 1973 and a daughter, Margaret D. Grace in 1992. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Joe Mussa Jr. and Gay of Broken Arrow; two daughters, Ruth Dykes and David of Pleasant Valley and Debbie Mericle and Jim of Pleasant Valley; one sister, Marie "Toots" Tyree of Bakersfield, Calif.; a son-in-law, Leon Grace of Ponca City; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, June 1 at 10 a.m., at the Schulter Baptist Church with Rev. George Christy officiating. Burial will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Davie Dykes, Matthew Mericle, Steve Fitzgerald, Chance Hunt, Gary Walker, Gregg Stika, Mark Robertson, Scott Wright and Scott Clark.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home between 6 and 8 p.m., Thursday. Donations may be made in memory of Joe Mussa to the Schulter Alumni Scholarship Fund.

PAUL DAVID SMITH

Paul David Smith, 41, of Wilson died May 28, 2001 near Okmulgee. He was born July 21,1958 at Paris, Ark., to Gus Smith and Davie Hutson Smith.

He worked as a truck driver most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hugh Barnett and Wayne Barnett and a nephew, Virgil Ray Hall.

Survivors include his wife, Betty C. Smith of Checotah; a daughter, Devocha Arnold of Okmulgee; a brother, Jerry Smith of Pleasant Valley; three sisters, Myrtle Hall, Delphia Arnold and Nina Modena, all of Henryetta; a granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, June 1 at 2 p.m., at the Shurden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Klovia Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Salt Creek Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Brian Arnold, Leroy Arnold, Steven Blaylock, Larry Hall, Aaron Arnold and Scott Adams.

TINA MAE HOWARD

Tina Mae Howard, 95, of Claremore and formerly of Okmulgee died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Claremore. She was born Jan. 6, 1906 at Elmore City, Okla., to Jesse Lee and Ada Vandiver Frost.

She was married to Ray Travis Fleming in the early 1920's and they lived in Pauls Valley where he was assistant postmaster. In 1947 she moved to Okmulgee where she was a cashier at a local grocery store. She was married to P. A. Howard of Okmulgee who preceded her in death. In October of 1998 she moved to Claremore to be near her daughter and family.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwynn Baines and husband Jerry of Claremore; her son, Wayne Fleming and wife Pounette of Gladstone, Mo., and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2p.m., Wednesday, May 30 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley under direction of the Rice Funeral Service. Son-in-law Jerry Baines will officiate.

JOSEPH FRANK MUSSA

Joseph Frank Mussa, 89, of Henryetta died May 28, 2001in Okmulgee. He was born Nov. 7, 1911.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home.

PAUL DAVID SMITH

Paul David Smith, 41, of Wilson died May 28, 2001 near Okmulgee. He was born July 21,1958 at Paris, Ark.

Arrangements are pending with Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

IDA JANE GARRETT

Ida Jane Garrett, 89, of Henryetta died May 26, 2001. She was born April 29, 1912 at Okemah to Guy Foster and Lonnie Berryhill Foster.

She was married to Cleo Garrett on Nov. 24, 1934 at Okemah. She graduated from Okemah High School and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 21, 1975, six sisters, three brothers and a grandson, Jeffrey Scott Sanders.

Survivors include a son, Foster Garrett of Henryetta; two daughters, Freeda Hall and husband Jimmie Joe of Choctaw and Barbara Atteberry and husband Joe of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, May 30 at 2p.m., at the First Nazarene Church of Henryetta with Rev. Lowell Churchill officiating. Burial will be in the Foster Family Cemetery at Okemah under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

NORMA JEAN GAYLORD

Norma Jean Gaylord, 78, a longtime resident of Beggs, died Friday, May 25, 2001 in Okmulgee. Mrs. Gaylord was born March 25, 1923 in Okmulgee County to George Washington and Elva French. She had worked as a manicurist and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beggs and the Eastern Star. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Roy French, and her husband Carl Melton Gaylord.

Survivors include one son, Roy and his wife, Jerrie Ann Griffin of Beggs, a sister, Lila French Smoot of Denton, TX, and one grandson.

Graveside services were on Tuesday, May 29 at 2 p.m. at the Beggs Cemetery with Rev. Ben Williams officiating. Arrangements were under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

CECIL A. EVANS

Cecil A. Evans, 74, a longtime resident of Okmulgee died Saturday, May 26 in the VA Hospital in Muskogee. He was born on September 10, 1926 in Henryetta, OK to James Thomas and Otha Nell (Hughes) Evans.

He worked for 23 years at the Henryetta Smelter. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Thomas Allen Evans.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Casey of Wellston, OK, Pat and husband Danny Shaffer of Okmulgee, and Kathy and husband Bryan Notley of Mounds, OK, two sons, Ron and wife Gladys Evans of Okmulgee, and Donnie Evans of Okmulgee, one sister, Bernice Busby of Altoona, Kansas, and seventeen grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 30 at 10 a.m. in the McClendon Chapel, with Rev. Dal Newberry officiating. Burial will be in the Henryetta Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 29 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will Mark Evans, Kevin Evans, Allen Casey, Chip Tyrrell, Toby Notley, Jeff Notley, and John Grubb.

RUTH C. LACKEY

Ruth Charnella Lackey 84, long time Okmulgee County resident died on Sunday, May 27, 2001 in Okmulgee.

She moved to Okmulgee at age two and then moved to Morris, where she lived for 68 years. Mrs. Lackey was the Morris City Clerk for 28 years. She was a member of the Senior Citizen Board and the Living Way Tabernacle Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, three children, Carl Wayne Lackey, Betty Sue Heiner, William Roy Lackey Jr., one sister Alma Neta Newby, and one brother William Edward Roth Jr.

Survivors include two daughters Charlene and husband Bob Sellers of Conroe, Texas, and Carolyn and husband Galen Smith of Mooreland, Oklahoma, one son, Harold Lackey of Morris, one brother Edwin Roth of Edmond, Oklahoma, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Living Way Tabernacle Church in Okmulgee. Rev. Melvin Creason will officiate. Burial will be in the Morris Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be in Okmulgee at the Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday. The family will be at the Funeral Home from 3 until 7 p.m., Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Tony Fleetwood, Troy Creason, Tommy Tatro, Garland Foster, Floyd Sharp, and Don Sellers.

CHANCE D'WAYNE SMITH

Chance D'Wayne Smith, infant son of Crystal Jones and Jimmy L. Smith, was still born on May 24, 2001 in a Tulsa hospital.

In addition to the parents, survivors include grandparents, Jerri Goudeau of Okmulgee and Bishop and Mrs. Thomas Smith of Tulsa; great-grandparents, Leona Holmes and Geraldine Jones, along with other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory for Chance will be Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m., in the Chapel of Peace at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. Bishop Thomas Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Home.
