GOLDIE M. EVANS

Goldie Marie Evans, 85, died May 8, 2001 in Okmulgee. She was born Jan. 14, 1916 in Wewoka to Josephine (Edwards) and Commadore Sivils.

A resident of Okmulgee since 1964, she was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Okmulgee. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Otis S. Adams and second husband, A.P. Evans; one son, Don G. Adams and one grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley Adams and wife Alverna of Tahlequah and Jerry L. Adams and wife Mary of Katy, Texas; one daughter, Kathryn M. Foust of Beggs; one sister Maxine Lay of Morris; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, two step-sons, Howard Evans of Okmulgee and Marvin Evans of Tulsa; and two step-daughters, Louise Ingram and Carolyn McGrew, both of Tulsa.

Services are set for Saturday, May 12 at 2 p.m., at the First Freewill Baptist Church Okmulgee. Rev. Henry Stal and Rev. Ed Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of Kelley Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Chris Foust, Chris Wofford, Billy Brown and Jarrad Foust.

ARMAND L. CARDINAL

Armand Louis Cardinal, 74, of Okmulgee died Sunday, May 13, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born Aug. 3, 1926 in Floydada, Texas to Armand R. and Annalea (Tierce) Cardinal.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII. He married Carol New on Aug. 17, 1951 in Amarillo. He was a chemist for Phelps-Dodge, retiring in 1991. He and Carol moved to Okmulgee in 1996, after residing in El Paso for 44 years. He was a member of the Okmulgee Circle Square and the ASTM, in which he was awarded their highest award, The Award of Merit in 1989. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geraldine Cardinal.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of the home; seven children, Michael Cardinal of Chesapeake, Va., Debra Walker and husband Jim of Missouri City, Texas, Richard Cardinal of El Paso, Texas, Monica Cardinal of Parker, Colo., Kristina Greene and husband Brian of El Paso, Texas, Jon Cardinal and wife Elena of Chesapeake, Va., and Annette Odom and husband James of Plainview, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 17 at the McClendon-Winters Chapel. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery.

Friends may visit the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m., until 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

ELLA MAE HILL

Ella Mae Hill, 47, of Henryetta died May 12, 2001 at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1953 at Claremore to Jackson Bruner and Rosie Frye Bruner.

She was married to the late Jimmy "Bunny" Hill. She was a self-employed hairdresser at the Hair Depot in Henryetta.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Sapulpa of the home and Vanessa Hill of Lawrence, Kan.; one son, Jo Mekko of the home; her mother, Rosie Bruner of Henryetta; six sisters, Pat Frank of Henryetta, Minnie Proctor of Henryetta, Nellie Lasley of Okmulgee, Emma Bruner of Henryetta, Cinda Bruner of Tulsa and Wanda Williams of Henryetta; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A song service was held Monday evening and Wake services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the Yardeka Indian Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the Yardeka church where burial will follow at the Yardeka Indian Cemetery at Henryetta under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home.

CAROLYN VONN JOHNSON

Carolyn Vonn Johnson, 35, of Tulsa died May 9, 2001 in Tulsa. She was born July 1, 1965 in Kansas City, KS to Willie and Betty (Bradley) Broussard Jr.

She married Clayton D. Johnson on Jan. 3, 1998 in Broken Arrow. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Anna Marie Johnson, on Feb. 18,1998.

Survivors include her husband of Tulsa; her mother, Betty Broussard of Okmulgee; a son, Anthony Broussard of the home; four brothers, Marcus Broussard of San Antonio, Andre Broussard of Okmulgee, Bruce Broussard of Newalla and Lamont Russell of Edmond; and two sisters, Rhonda Dicks of Okmulgee and Rita Broussard of Chicago.

Graveside rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 17, 2001 at the New Bethel Cemetery with Reverend Willie Antwine officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home Wednesday from 10-8 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

ELLAN E. WILLIAMS

Ellan Elizabeth Williams, 88, of Midlothian, Texas and formerly of Henryetta, died May 11, 2001. She was born Dec. 22, 1912 in Paris, Texas.

Ellan and her husband owned and operated the Williams Shoeland in Henryetta for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Charles Williams on Feb. 6, 1994 and a sister, Dorothy Ellis.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbra Jeanne and husband Pete Rowe of Midlothian, Texas; one son, James Donald Williams and wife Janna Lou of Marshfield, Mo.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 15, at 2 p.m., in the Shurden Chapel with Rev. Don Lehman officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

FRANK B. ROBERDS SR

Frank B. Roberds Sr. 69, of Preston died May 10, 2001 at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 69. He was born April 3, 1932 to Frank and Helen (Holmes) Roberds in McCrory, Ark.

He had been a resident of Preston since 1970 and was a retired truck driver, gas station owner and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Okmulgee. His father, stepmother, Fannie Roberds and brother Jerry Roberds preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Betty (Mathis) Roberds of the home; a son, Frank Roberds Jr., and wife Julie of Preston; two daughters, Cheryl Story and husband Donny of Bartlesville and Tonja Holcomb and husband Thad of Kellyville; his mother, Helen Fitzgerald of Okmulgee; one sister, Alice Spicer and Bill of Tulsa; three half sisters, Connie Loomis of Sikeston, Mo., Annette Nicholson of Moberly, Mo., and Sheila Coster of Moberly, Mo.; two brothers, George Roberds of Granite City, Ill., and Terry Roberds of Indiana; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 14 at the First Freewill Baptist Church of Okmulgee with Rev. Ed Jenkins and Rev. Henry Stahl officiating. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Casketbearers will be Jeremy Story, Kyle Story, Jeremiah Roberds, Tyler Roberds, Carl Hinton, and Benjamin Florack.

Visitation will be from 1until 8 p.m., Sunday, May 13 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.

GEORGIA ADOLPH

Georgia Adolph, 92, of Turley and grandmother of several county residents, died May 9, 2001. She was born Nov. 24, 1908 in Oktaha to Onie and Melinda (Johnson) Finnigan.

Survivors include her husband, Lysle D. Adolph Sr., of the home; two sisters, Lottie Enos of Coweta, Cornelia Wallace of Coweta and Opal Thrasher of Tulsa; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Lysle D. Adolph Jr., and Onie Joe Adolph; two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Sperry with Rev. Don Moseby officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery at Sperry under direction of the Johnson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dr. Chris Adolph, Greg Adolph, Jeff Adolph, Dr. Gary Adolph, Jim Grayson and Jim Norris.

ALTA LORENE LEWIS

Alta Lorene Lewis, 86, of Henryetta died May 11, 2001 at Henryetta. She was born March 1, 1915 in Oklahoma to William F. Hampton and Lou Ann VanMeter Hampton.

She was married to Joe Lewis on April 29, 1940 in Okmulgee. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1997. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are two nieces and two nephews, including Betty Dickey and Frank McElhannon of Henryetta and a host of great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday, May 14, at 10 a.m., at the Salt Creek Cemetery with Rev. Martin McElhannon officiating. Services are under direction of the Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

CLEORA V. KEATON

Mrs. Cleora V. Keaton, a retired public school teacher from Beggs, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, May 10th, after an illness of two years.

She was born January 31, 1907 at Beggs, to Abram and Maggie DuBose, After attending elementary school and three years of high school in the Beggs Public School System, she went on to graduate from both high school and college at Philander Smith College, at Little Rock, Arkansas, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She then went to Langston University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree. She continued her education at both the University of Oklahoma and University of Tulsa, where she did graduate study. In 1943, Cleora and Aaron (A. C.) Keaton were united in holy matrimony. After 50 years of marriage, this union was ended with the death of A. C. on August 30th, l985.

Cleora taught in the Beggs School System for forty-four years, retiring in 1972. She served as a member of the Beggs School Board from 1973 until 1983; she was the first woman elected to that board. She was also affiliated with the O.E.A, (Oklahoma Education Association), N.E.A. (National Education Association), AARP, Okmulgee County Retired Teachers Association, Beggs Chamber of Commerce, Anne Moroney Youth Shelter Board. A.A.U.W. (American Association of University Women.) Order of Eastern Star (Golden Link Chapter #72) serving as Worthy Matron, Past Matron, Associate Matron, Secretary, and the offices of Martha, Ruth, and Wardser.

From childhood, she was a faithful member of Handy Chapel African Methodist Episcopa1 Church, at Beggs. She served as Sunday School teacher, Secretary-Treasurer, Steward, Class-Leader, and Missionary President. She not only served in the local church, but the District Conference, Episcopal and General Church and delegate of the A.M.E. meetings across the United States. She served laboriously with the CNEO Conference, and Episcopal Lay Organizations as Secretary, Vice President, Parliamentarian, and Advisor, as well as Conference and Area Missionary Societies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abram DeBose in 1934 and mother, Maggie DeBose, in 1956; husband Aaron (A. C.) Keaton in 1985, and other relatives.

Survivors include her niece, Sharon Hammons of Tulsa, Oklahoma, nephew Duane Bradford of San Diego, California and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, for Mrs. Keaton, will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Handy Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Beggs. She will be interned with her husband at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, in Ft. Gibson. Viewing will be available today from 12 noon until 7 p.m., in the "Chapel of Respect" at Ragsdale Funera1 Center (Muskogee). Viewing will also be tomorrow at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

CARLYON A. MARTIN

Carlyon A. (Jacobs) Martin, 54, a former Morris area resident died in Tulsa on Tuesday, May 8, 2001. She was born April 19,1947 at Eram, Okla., to Bertha Hall Jacobs and Joe Jacobs Jr.

She was a retired teacher at Mitchell Elementary School in Tulsa, a member of Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association and was of the Assembly of God faith.

Survivors include her mother, Bertha Hall Jacobs of Morris; grandfather Adam Hall of Okmulgee; a son, Dustin J. Ellis Martin of Tulsa; daughter and son-in-law Kristina C. (Martin) and Ken Taylor of Skiatook; four grandchildren; a sister, Patsy Blackburn of Sand Springs and several nieces and nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her father.

Viewing was from 2 until 8 p.m., Thursday at the Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee with family receiving family and friends from 6 until 8p.m.

Graveside services will be at 11a.m., Friday in the Lackey Cemetery at Hitchita with Moore Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests that contributions be made to DVIS or the Cancer Society.
