MERTIE DILLSAVER

Mertie Gladys Dillsaver, 94, longtime Prairie Bell Community resident, died Friday morning, June 21, 2002, at her home. was She was born October 5, 1907 in Koshkonong, Oregon county, Missouri to Joe and Zina (Luna) Thornburgh.

She graduated from Okmulgee High School and married Robert (Pete) Lowe Dillsaver on April 15, 1941 in Sapulpa. She was a member of Town and Country Christian Church, was a 4-H Volunteer, and was a charter and lifetime member of the Prairie Bell Home and Community Education Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Earl and Bert Thornburgh and a sister, Ida Centell.

Survivors include a son, William (Bill) Dillsaver and wife Terry of Morris, two daughters, Dona and Karen Dillsaver, both of the home, a sister, Vivian Lowery of Okmulgee, a brother, Ernie Thornburgh and wife Jane of Green Valley, AZ, and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Minister Bill Park officiating. Services will be under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Casketbearers will be Steve Finch, Chris Ledbetter, Ernest Ledbetter, Lester Daniels, Bill Bearden, Sr., Joe Elbert, Marine Daniels, and Bobby Dillsaver.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Town and Country Christian Church.

ROBERT BELL

Robert Judson Bell died early Friday morning in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on July 24, 1926 to Judge and Mrs. Robert J. Bell Sr. in McAlester, OK.

Bob graduated from Oklahoma Military Academy. He then served two years in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was wounded in Action on Iwo Jima and honorably discharged. Upon his return he completed his BS degree from Oklahoma A&M in animal Husbandry. Bob was a life-long cattle rancher starting his career and spending nine years as ranch manager for Dillingham Ranches Inc. For the next twenty-two years, he owned and operated the Bell Ranch north of Okmulgee. His final years were spent operating the Bell Ranch west of Muskogee. Besides many years as a successful cattle rancher, Bob was a renowned bronze Sculptor. Bob was a master Artist of the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee. His commissioned bronze, Dripping Springs, stands in front of the Okmulgee City Hall. In 1982 Bob was commissioned to do a sculpture that was placed at Point Barrow, Alaska at the Wiley Post and Will Rogers Plane Memorial.

Survived include his wife Carol Bell; his sister, Marjorie Breidenbach and husband George of Tulsa; three daughters, Karen Hatlelid and husband Joe of O'Fallon, IL, Marilyn Bell of Alaska, Janet Koziol and husband, Buddy of Okmulgee as well as seven grandchildren. He is also survived by four stepchildren and their spouses; Cheryl Poole, Bryan Marshall, Dr. Jack Marshall all of Oklahoma City, and Chris Marshall of Chattanooga, TN, and eight step-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer with the Rev. Dr. Clifford Horwath of Muskogee officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at McAlester under direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

The family has asked that contributions be made to Church of the Redeemer or to Good Shepherd Hospice in care of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home 303 East Seventh Street, Okmulgee, OK 74447.

NICHOLAS URI JR.

Hubert Nicholas Uri Jr., 77, native Okmulgeean more recently of Naples, Fla., died My 18, 2002. He was born Oct. 22, 1924 at Okmulgee, Okla.

A graduate of Okmulgee High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, he served in the United States Air Force in World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughters, Margaret Uri Simmons, M.D. and Gwen Uri Minardo, M. D. of Knoxville, Tenn. and Nikki Uri of Houston and three grandchildren.

IMA A. BYRD BOURNE

Ima Ailene Byrd Bourne, 77, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa. She was born April 12, 1925 in Wetumka, OK to James Guy Byrd and Katie Marler Byrd. She was reared in the Wetumka area and attend the Wetumka School. She was married to William Kenneth Biffle at Hickory Ridge and to this union, a son James Neuman, was born. Her son Jimmy preceded her in death and his father. Ima later married Robert Bourne who preceded her in death as well.

Also preceding her in death were her siblings Paul, James Guy, Jr., Marvin, Alma and Irene.

She was florist and operated a shop in Weleetka. She later entered motel management, primarily maintaining properties in Tulsa as well as Branson, MO. She was also a caregiver and lived and cared for the elderly in Okmulgee for several years. As her health began to fail, she relocated to the Broken Arrow area to be near her family. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, flower arranging and all types of arts and crafts. She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith and had attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Weleekta.

Survivors include 4 step-children, Susan Thowe of Wichita, Kansas, Myrna Laue and Don Bounre of La Crescenta, CA and Billy Bourne of Hamilton, MT, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, two brothers, Billy and Claudia Byrd of Wetumka and Cecil and Rhonda Byrd of Lawton, along with other in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Weleetka with Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in the Wetumka Cemetery.

JOYCE L. HICKS

Joyce Lynn Hicks, 59, died Sunday, June 23, 2002. She was born in Okmulgee, OK on April 23, 1943. She married Gibson Hicks on January 7, 1983 in Gainesville, TX. She was a health insurance supervisor for Harrington Health Plan Benefits and attended Bethany First Church of The Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her son, Matt Hicks, brother, Terry Miller and sister-in-law Peggy Miller.

She is survived by her husband, Gibson, her parents, Willard and Pauline (Dixon) Miller of Okmulgee; brothers Terry Miller, Ronnie Miller and Donnie Miller, all of Okmulgee; a daughter, Bridgette Hicks, Oklahoma City; son, Reagon Hicks and wife Jill of Tulsa; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Bethany First Church of Nazarene in the Chapel in the round, with graveside services at 3 p.m. at Okmulgee Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Mercer Adams Funeral Service of Bethany, OK.

MARGARET ASHING

Margaret F. Ashing, 84, a resident of Muskogee, died Saturday, July 6. 2002 in Muskogee.

She was born on Sunday, June 23, 1918 to George and Minnie (Frazier) Cauthon in Coalgate, Oklahorna. She was married to George Ashing on January 1, 1934 until his death in 1997. During those 63 years she was a homemaker and raised their four children in Morris, Oklahoma. After the death of her husband she resided with her son in Muskogee. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Survivors include three sons, George Ashing Jr. and wife Palvene of Muskogee. Thomas Ashing and wife, Linda of Oklahoma City and Ronald Ashing and wife, Sandra of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Kathryn Allcock and husband, Charles of McPherson, Kan.; one sister, Lois Vizscarra of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 9 at the Morris First Assembly of God Church with Rev. C. R. Franklin and Rev. Bill Shirell officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery under direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Ricky Ashing, Pat Ashing, Michael Ashing, Dale Ashing, Charlie Been, Chad Been, Brian Engman, Anthony Combs and Robert Allcock.

EDNA M. SMITH

Edna Marie Smith, 89, a resident of Henryetta died July 7, 2002. She was born Jan. 1, 1913 in Paden, Oklahoma to Artie Bell (Hinson) Hanson and Louie Hanson.

She was a beauty operator for 39 yeas and worked at the Vanity Salon . She resided in Okrnulgee for 50 years. She was preceded in death by two sisters Thelma Haydon and Eunita Bono, and three brothers, Herman Hanson, Lois Hanson, Dee Hanson.

Survivors include her brother, Bill Hanson of Oakdale, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Park Cemetery in Okemah with Rev. George Christy officiating. Services are under direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

JULIUS M. BUSH

Julius Moore Bush, 78, of rural Beggs, died Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2002 at his home. He was born January 29, 1924 in Myrtle Spring, Texas to Ernest Roy and Nola (Whitaker) Bush.

He was a Veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Navy as an Aircraft Carrier Pilot. He then attended SMU, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. He moved to Denver in 1951 and started the J.M. Bush, Co., which he owned and operated until moving to Beggs in 1987. After retiring to Beggs, he and his wife owned and operated a llama ranch. He married Rita Jo Anderson on February 14, 1969 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tressa Givler.

Survivors include by his wife, Rita Jo of the home; four sons, Steve Vincent Bush of Aurora, Colo., David Michael Bush of Denver, Colo, Thomas Anthony Bush of Sheridan, Wyo., and Timothy Allen Bush of Mesa, Ariz., a sister, Earnestine Ponikiewski of Irving, Texas, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Francis Hospice or American Cancer Society.

MARION C. BRANSON SR.

Marion Cylvester Branson, Sr., 82, of Wilson, died Friday evening, July 5, 2002 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. He was born May 14, 1920 in Snowball, Arkansas to Lewis Jefferson and Gertrude (Carmand) Branson.

He married Johnnie Grace Livingston on September 2, 1941 in Marshall, Ark. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2000. He was a farmer and rancher and had worked for Ball Brothers for ten years prior to retiring.

Survivors include his children, Marion C. Branson, Jr., and wife Gaila of Okmulgee, Larry Branson and wife Linda, Gene Branson, Ruth Branson, and Shirley Cypert and husband Wilson, all of Wilson, two sisters, Eldora Ray and Melvadean Winslow, both of Eufaula, a brother, Charlie Branson of Hitchita, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Salt Creek Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Jack Manns, Jimmy Manns, Jason Moore, Mitch Porcelli, Rodney Winslow, and Sonny Barnett. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

MARY ELLEN KINSEY

Mary Ellen Kinsey, 66, a lifetime resident of Okmulgee, died Monday, July 8, 2002 in Okmulgee. Services are pending with the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

She was born on Saturday, January 4, 1936 to Floyd and Annie Dale (Marchant) Chastain in Okmulgee. She worked during her lifetime as a beauty operator and as a nurses aid.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne Kinsey of Henryetta, Floyd Kinsey and wife, Darla of Morris and Billy English of Muskogee; two daughters, Vickie Counts and husband, Hal of Morris and Clara Hager and husband, Kenny of Morris; three sisters, Barbara Kerr of Okmulgee, Frankie Viersen of Okmulgee and Bonnie Jacks of Grove; one brother, Bud Chastain of California; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

LOUIS H. BREWER

Louis H. Brewer, 84, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 in Tulsa. He was born on Wednesday, October 17, 1917 to Harold A. and Maud (Bell) Brewer in Waukegan, IL. During World War II, Mr. Brewer worked for Western Electric manufacturing radars. For over 40 years he worked in the insurance business and for 15 years was the Life Insurance Specialist for Harned Real Estate in Okmulgee. Mr. Brewer served on the Board of the Okmulgee County Health Department, the Board of the Okmulgee Creek Conservicy; was an active Rotary Club member, and was a member of the First Christian Church in Okmulgee where he served as Elder and Deacon and taught the Adult Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. David L. Brewer and wife, Loretta A. of Tulsa and Larry Brewer of Mission Viejo, CA; one daughter, Linda Gann of Tulsa; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at the First Christian Church in Okmulgee. Charlie Green and Brian C. Brewer will officiate. Burial will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

Pallbearers are Bob Hess, Ben Harned, Jr., Steve Menasco, Ralph Sprouse, Charles Davis and Mike Kennedy.

NAOMI VIOLA DEAN

Naomi Viola Dean, 83, of Dewar died Sunday, July 7, 2002 at the Fountain View Manor in Henryetta. She was born on July 7, 1919 to John Duran and Schaia (Payne) Branson. She worked as a waitress in the area when she was able. She is survived by a half-brother J.D. Branson of New Orleans and a sister-in-law Nadine Branson of Dewar.

She was preceded in death by a brother Clyde Branson and two sisters Alice Maley and Letha Brown.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Okmulgee Cemetery with the Reverend Everett Parsons officiating. Burial is under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

CHARLES D. OAKS

Charles D. Oaks, 69, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 in Okmulgee. Services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at the First Christian Church in Okmulgee. The Reverend Charlie Green will officiate. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

He was born on Saturday, January 21, 1933 in Maud, Oklahoma. Mr. Oaks served with the United States Army in the mid 1950's. He married Mary Adkins on April 12, 1957 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Charles had been active in the First Christian Church in Okmulgee for many years. At the time of his death he served as an elder, music director and organist. Mr. Oaks was a professional Insurance Adjuster for GAB Business services for over 38 years retiring in 1997.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Don and one sister, Pat.

Survivors include wife, Mary of the home, one daughter, Elizabeth Guy of Broken Arrow; foster daughter, Carma Board of Austin, Texas; one brother, Robert Oaks and wife, Lavonne of Clairmont, California; one sister Fern Hurt of Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Blagg of Henryetta and Imogene Oaks of Wagoner; and his precious granddaughter, Ashley Guy.

Pallbearers are Foster Garrett, Ron Richmond, Ralph Sprouse, Tim Turley, E.R. Kirkbride, Bill Good, Bob Hess and Ben Harned, Jr.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund.
