JOSEPH MCINTOSH

Joseph Lee McIntosh, 91, a resident of Lindsay, Oklahoma died July 19, 2002 in Oklahoma City. He was born March 20, 1911 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Martha Hawkins McIntosh and George Jackson McIntosh passed away July 19, 2002 in Oklahoma City.

He was a Superintendant of Gas Operations for The Gulf and Chevron Oil Companies. He was preceded in death by his wife, Chleo Knight, his parents, and sisters, Lona Blanks, Winnie Feinberg. Joseph was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindsay and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Joseph resided in Lindsay for many years and he was a lover of Champion hunting dogs. He loved fishing and working in his garden, and providing vegetables for his friends in Lindsay.

Survivors include his son, David Lee McIntosh, Dallas, Texas; brother, Dorsie McIntosh, Lodi, California; sister, Juanita Cox, Henryetta; and a host of nieces and nephews,

Pallbearers will be: Billy Mitchell, Ray Magby, Phil Cottinim, Johnny Knight James Herring, and Eddie McIntosh. Services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 11a.m. at First Baptist Church of Lindsay officiated lay Rev. Monty Baggett and Rev. Alvin McConnell. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery, Lindsay under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

JOHN D. OWEN SR.

John D. Owen Sr., 77, died July 21, 2002 at his home on Route 3, Henryetta. He was born July 27, 1924 in Lenna, Oklahoma, to Nettie Laffoon Owen and Washington Owen, Sr.

He was married to Gladys Owens, at Henryetta on June 8, 1946. He was self employed as a truck driver for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Washington Owen and one sister, Vera Gibbs.

Survivors include his Wife, Gladys Owen, of the home; four children, Betty Patterson of Henryetta, David Owen and wife Ruth of Dustin, Jimmy Owen and wife Jennifer of Henryetta; Jerry Owen and wife Joann of Henryetta; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, Lillie Saylor, and one sister in law, Wanell Owen.

Pallbearers will be Butch Norman, Billy Miller, Cecil Sparks, Bill Golden III, Bill Golden II and Dennis Johnson.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Shurden Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Kelly Brown. Burial will be at Morris Cemetery under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

JAMES FAIRLESS

James Carter Fairless, 66, a resident of Tulsa, died Saturday morning, July 20, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born January 4, 1936 in Ashland, Oklahoma to L.C. and Clara Fairless.

He graduated from Oklahoma A&M College and worked for Hughes-Anderson Corporation as a quality control specialist. He married Patricia Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of the home, his mother, Clara Fairless, two sons, Carter and Tracy Fairless, a sister, Jan Guinn and husband Jerry of Tulsa, and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at the Beggs Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

TOKEN SPEARS

Token Edward Spears, infant son of Tommy and Nacole Spears, was born May 29, 2002 in Okmulgee, OK. He died July 21, 2002 at Henryetta at the age of 1 month and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arvin McGowin, Raymond Smith and Daniel and Minnie Spears. Maternal grandmother Ida Hughes and a cousin Arvin McGowin II.

He is survived by his parents Tommy and Nacole Spears of the home, a sister, Madison Spears of the home; maternal grandmother, Rhonda Williams, Amarillo, TX; paternal grandparents, Vickie and Joe Szarwinski, Dewar, OK; paternal grandfather, Danny Spears, Hitchita, OK; maternal great grandparents, Edward and Mary Hughes, Morris, OK; paternal great grandmother, Faye McGowin, Dewar, OK; 4 uncles, Ricky and Stacey Sturman, Dewar, Dane, Logar and Jake, Amarillo, TX; two aunts, Tessa Szarwinski, Dewar; Lacy, Amarillo, TX; a host of great aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other relatives.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Salt Creek Cemetery in the Wilson Community with Rev. Gerald Bobbett officiating. Services are under the direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

LEE F. PARKS, JR

Lee F. Parks, Jr., 81, formerly of Henryetta, died Thursday, July 18, 2002 in Tulsa. He was born July 26, 1920 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Lorene (Bell) and Lee F. Parks, Sr.

He was married to Alene B. Parks on June 14, 1941 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. He was a Journeyman/Electrician. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene B. Parks, Parents, Brother, Drury W. Parks. Lee followed the construction trade from WWII to the Korean Conflict in the build up of Metro Chemical Company and the defense industry from Kansas City, Kansas to Corpus Christy, Texas. He helped to build the Manhattan project in Oakridge, Tennessee. He helped construct the BMEWS Early Waming System In Greenland. In later years Lee was the manager in the Trust Department of The First National Bank in Tulsa. He was a member of the Brookfield Ave Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include three sons, Patrick A. Parks, Onalaska, Texas, David L. Parks, Ponca City, and Lee Frank Parks III, Ponca City; a brother, James L. Parks, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee, Oklahoma with Rev. Mark Busch officiating. Services are under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

Altiva Keesee

Altiva Margie Keesee 84, resident of Okmulgee died Sunday, July 21, 2002 in Okmulgee. She was born on June 24, 1918 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Silas Robert and Addie Dorothy (Hawkins) Cansler. Mrs. Keesee was a member of the Honor Society At Dryden High School and graduated on May 21, 1937. She married Richard Brooks (R.B.) Keesee on December 24, 1941. They moved to Okmulgee in 1953 from Vinson, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two sons Richard Lynn and Ronald Dean Keesee a daughter- in- law Teresa Keesee, four brothers Sam, Bob, Bill and Huelan Cansler and one sister Bertice Cole.

Survivors include three sons Randell and wife Linda Keesee of Tulsa, Donald Ray and wife Debbie Keesee of Okmulgee, and Billy Joe and wife Sharon Keesee of Okmulgee, a daughter Tonji Jo Pryor of Okmulgee, two sisters Sadie Moran of El Centro, California and Jean Harrison of Hollis, Oklahoma, three brothers Chet Cansler of Salt Lake City, Utah, John Cansler of Arizona, and J.R. Cansler of Burns Flats, Oklahoma, 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 2 pm. Jack Shock will officiate Burial will be in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

MARY LOU FINLEY

Mary Lou Finley, 93, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Friday, July 19, 2002 in Okmulgee. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church in Okmulgee with the Reverend Jeffrey Cranton officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmony Grove cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

She was born on Sunday, May 30, 1909 to Herschel C. and Anna (Swart) Finley. Ms. Finley graduated from Central State University. She earned her Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma. She played the trumpet and at one time was with the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra. She taught history at Wilson Elementary School in Okmulgee. In the early forties she was asked to head the music department at Okmulgee High School. For over thirty-two years, she held this position, teaching two generations of Okmulgee's youth on how to sing. She started the Key Notes, the Harmonaires and started or rather her students did, and named it for her, "Finley's Follies", a high school musical. She is also known for writing the music for the OHS Alma Mater. After her retirement in 1974, a high school scholarship for OHS was established in her name.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, H.C. Finley, Jr. in 1933; one sister, Anna Belle Reed in 1995.

Survivors include one cousin, Jill Copeland; and many friends.

Visitation is set for Monday, July 22nd, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Mary Lou Finley Scholarship Fund. Memorials may be sent to 1702 Kings Rd., Okmulgee, Ok 74447.

There will be a practice session at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church for all former choir members that wish to participate in a farewell chorus in honor of Ms. Finley.

DORENE PHELPS

Dorene V. Phelps, 79. longtime Henryetta resident, died Aug 9, 2002 at Shawnee. She was born Dec. 24, 1922 at Schulter to Sam Banks and Lola Long.

She was a member of the Henryetta First Assembly of God Church and a former cook at the old Henryetta Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Phelps and her parents.

Survivors include two daughters Judy Greenly and husband Jake of Henryetta and Vicky Vassuar and husband Larry of Shawnee; a sister, Betty Phelps of Grove; three grandchildren; a step-grandchild; three great-grandchildren and a nephew.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Henryetta First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Leroy Kebo and Pastor Rodney George officiating. Pallbearers will be Larry Vassuar, Jake Greenly, Daren Vassaur, Sam Parton, Brandon Young and Jeff Minix.

Arrangements are under direction of the Robert Simons Funeral Home of Henryetta.

MYRTLE MEEK

Myrtle Meek, 69, of Okmulgee died Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born July 11, 1933 to Joe and Esther Ray.

Mrs. Meek spent her youth in California but later moved back to Oklahoma and married William "Bill" Meek. She worked as a Certified Med Aide at Highland Park for 23 Years and enjoyed taking care of her family most of all.

Survivors include her two sons Joe Meek and Jim Meek and his wife Glenda, all of Okmulgee; one brother David Ray of Cutler, CA, two sisters Nellie Marlett and Thelma Thurber both of Fairfield, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Meek, a daughter Virginia Meek, a brother Everett Ray and a sister Alma Alberty.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jerry Gasaway officiating. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Friends visited the funeral home from 12-8 on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

BERTHA C. BRILL

Bertha Catherine Brill, 93, longtime resident of Morris, died Sunday morning, August 11, 2002 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was born February 4, 1909 in Berry County, Missouri to William Curtis and Myrtle (Hoobler) Whisman.

She married Willy A. "Bill" Brill, Sr. They celebrated 50 1/2 years of marriage before his death. Mrs. Brill enjoyed crocheting and gardening, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.A. (Bill) Brill, one son, Willie Brill, one grandson, Earl Wayne Perkins, brothers, Floyd, Jessie, and Hiram Whisman, and sisters, Thelma Burnett, Myrtle Pearson, and Ruby Vaughn.

Survivors include four children, sons, Donald Brill and wife LaVeda, of Morris, and Curtis Brill and wife Dorothy of Tulsa, daughters, Virgie Casselman of Liberty Morris and Thelma June Brill of Morris and daughter-in-law, Doris Brill of Broken Arrow, a brother in-law Herb Pearson of Roland, OK, 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, six great-great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, at the United Pentecostal Church in Morris with Reverend Larry Grissom officiating and Reverend M.F. Wainwright and Mr. Larry Brill assisting. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Casketbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

SAMUEL CARRAWAY

Samuel James Carraway, 69, of Fort Worth, Texas died Sunday, August 11, 2002 in Okmulgee. He was born December 11, 1932.

Survivors include two sons Luther and Antonio Carraway.

Services are pending with McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

ALEXANDER D'SHAYNE LOWE

Funeral services for Alexander D'Shayne Lowe, 38, of Tulsa, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Broken Arrow Indian Methodist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with Alec Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at the Lowe family cemeteryin Broken Arrow. Arrangements are under the direction of Amis-Kennard Funeral Home in Broken Arrow.

Alexander D'Shayne Lowe was born on December 5, 1963 at the Claremore Indian Hospital in Claremore, Oklahoma to Andrew Lowe Sr. and Mary "Roxie" Lowe. He died Saturday, August 9, 2002. He attended Carl Sandburg Elementary School and Lewis and Clark Middle School. He was a laborer

He is survived by his sisters Joanna of Kellyville, Christina of Rochester, NY, and Andra of Tulsa; brother Andrew Raymond of Tahlequah, Freeman Bunky of Okmulgee, Rusty of Tulsa, Nick of Broken Arrow, Hut Lowe of Tulsa, Kuna-Gi and Nocoma of Tulsa; and numerous nieces, nephew and other family members

He was preceded in death by his parents Roxie and Andrew, brother William "Jingles", nephew Christopher and niece Kim.

NANCY GREEN

Nancy Virginia Green, longtime resident of Dewar, passed away Monday evening, August 12, 2002 at Henryetta Medical Center at the age of 80. She was born October 16, 1921 in Kusa, Oklahoma to John Luther and Ora Dessie Hall. She married Richard Jerome Green on April 1, 1939 in Dewar. Mr. Green preceded her in death on April 14, 1990. Mrs Green was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Nora Christenberry and a brother, Franklin E. Hall.

Mrs. Green was a member of the Dewar United Pentecostal Church. She loved working crossword puzzles, and enjoyed gardening, yard work, and most of all her grandchildren. She was a wonderful hostess, always ready to entertain and cook for her guests.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald L Green and wife Terri of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Richard D. Green and wife Deborah of Justin, Texas, two daughters, Lynn Zumwalt and husband Charles of Pineville, Missouri, and Gloria Churchill and husband Alan of Henryetta, twenty grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Green will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 15, 2002 at the Dewar United Pentecostal Church with Reverends Matthew Martin and James Woolard officiating. Interment will follow in the Sonora Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as casketbearers. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
