ROY DEAN PIPPIN

Roy Dean Pippin, a resident of Henryetta was born January 29, 1954 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Opal (Johnson) Pippin and Richard Pippin. He passed away September 9, 2002 is Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 48 years 7 months and 10days.

He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, 1 Uncle, Bobby Pippin,1 Aunt Odaine Peavler.

He is survived by his Daughter, Heather & husband Danny Barker, Henryetta; daughter, Ashley Griffith, Henryetta; Parents, Richard and Opal Pippin, Henryetta; Sister, Ann Smith and husband Steve, Sapulpa; brother, Wayne Pippin and Martha Beck, Henryetta; sister, Linda Jones and husband Kenny, Henryetta; sisters Pam Lawrence, Henryetta; special friend,a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ron Hamilton, Jimmy Webster, Ron Tarwater, Dougie Johnson, Colin Rae, and Rocky Rae. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Todd Buzan, Shawn Buzan, Kenny Wayne Jones, Jeff Lawrence, Blaine Buzan.

Services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, Henryetta of officiated by Rev. Terry Pitman with Rev. Ernie Margworth, assisting.

Burial will be at New Sonora Cemetery, Henryetta under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

CLYDE E. ALLEN

Clyde Edward Allen died Sept. 7, 2002 at Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, Nev. He was born May 28, 1942 in Henryetta, OK, the son of Joe and Norine (Jones) Allen.

He was the grandson of early settlers of Henryetta, I T., Ben and Sarah (Murray) Jones, and William and Allie (Bearden) Allen, great-grandson of Joseph and Minnie (Smith) Jones, and A.J. and Melissa (Fuller) Murray.

Clyde attended school in Tulsa, Ada, Varnum and Seminole Jr. College. He enlisted in the 180th Inf. RGT., 45th Inf. Div., OKARNG at Holdenville, Okla., in 1956. In 1958 he enlisted in the regular army, serving in Lenggries, Germany. Upon release from active duty he re-enlisted in the 45th Avn. Co., 45th Inf Div. located at Norman, Okla. Clyde graduated with an Associated Degree in engineering from the Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Mo. In 1966 he volunteered to work in Vietnam for Texas Instruments as an electronics technician in support of U.S.A.F. aerial surveillance missions in North and South Vietnam. He flew numerous missions as a civilian, regardless of the danger. His team assisted in the development of the AC-130 gunship system while in Vietnam. Clyde and two members of his team survived the TET offensive in 1968 after being surrounded for three days by the Viet Cong, armed only with his 9mm Browning pistol. After the end of the Vietnam war, Clyde was transferred to Holland in support of NATO systems upgrade. He was then reassigned to work out of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nev, in support of the Top Secret F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of the home in Las Vegas; brother Carmon Lee and wife Gloria of Oklahoma City, brother Arnold and wife Nancy of Ada, Okla., sister Joyce Haber of Tulsa; as well as nephews, grand-nephews and nieces, one great-grandnephew and one great-grandniece.

The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or the National Rifle Association.

Graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery at Henryetta on Sept 13, at 11 a.m. with Chaplain John Lile conducting service. Military honors wil be by Det-1,Co C, 120th Engr. Bn ,(CBT), OKARNG, located at Henryetta. Burial is under direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

JAMES RUSSELL

James Donald Russell, 42, of Perry and formerly of the area, died Sept. 10, 2002 at the Perry Memorial Hospital.

He was born on November 16, 1959 in Oklahoma City to Charles F. Russell and Carolyn L. Graef. September l 0, 2002 at the Perry Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2002 at the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Boone officiating. Burial will be at the Morris Heights Cemetery. Services are under the direction Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Lee Rojas and her husband Louis G., of Perry, Oklahoma; two sons, James A. Russell of Perry and Jacob L. Russell of Orlando, Okla., his mother, Carolyn L. Weeks of Perry;; his father, Charles F. Russell of Texoma; one brother, Timi D. Littleton of Perry and two sisters Tami Gilhouse of Eufaula and Carol Wyatt of Perry.

JUANITA HATCH

Juanita Hatch, 90, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Thursday, September 12, 2002 in Okmulgee. Graveside services are Friday, September 13, 2002 at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

Ms. Hatch was born on Sunday, March 31, 1912 to William D. and Cora B. (Claxton) Hatch in Pauls Valley, OK. In 1977 she retired as girls dorm supervisor at OSU Okmulgee. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one cousin.

ROBERT HANKINS

Robert F. "Bob" Hankins, Okmulgee, died Wednesday morning, September 11, 2002 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. He was born May 16, 1930 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Louie E. and Minnie Ola (Clay) Hankins.

He married Betty Shackleford on November 12, 1949 in Carnegie. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and had attended Central State College in Edmond. He had lived in New Mexico, California and then Okmulgee, and had been a self-employed as a carpenter. Mr. Hankins was a member of the Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, Elk's Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Hankins, of the home, a daughter, Donna Conway of Okmulgee, a son, Steve Hankins and wife Jayme of Okmulgee, two brothers, Ralph Hankins and wife Nadina of Oklahoma City and Troy Hankins and wife Donna of Marysville, California, two sisters, Rita Horn and husband Roy of Broken Arrow and Nelta Robinson of Austin, Texas, and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

WILDITH L. LAYMAN

Lynell Layman, 78, a resident of Sun City, Arizona, died Sept. 9, 2002 at Sun City. She was born November 8, 1923 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Mattie Jane (Smith) Tidwell and Henry Claiborne Tidwell.

She was married to Sherman Layman Jr. in Coolidge, Arizona on October 7, 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Sherman Layman Jr., of the home; son, Michael Ray Layman and wife Vickie Lynn of Henryetta; a daughter, Linda Dianne Dunson and husband Bruce Lee of Okemah; son, Gary Dale Layman of Tulsa; sisters, Marlene Meals, Mexica, Texas, and Pauline Leach, Bakersfield, California; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Layrnan, Gary Dale Layman, Bruce Dunson, Phillip Dunson, Jeremy Layman and Jason Layman.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 17, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Henryetta with Rev. George Christy, officiating. Services are under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

ADAM MCCROSKEY

Adam M. McCroskey, 81, of Henryetta died November 26, 2002 in Henryetta.

He served with the US Army, during WWII. During his tour he was awarded: the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon, Bronze service star, Purple Heart, American Defense service ribbon, Philippine Liberation ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with Oak leaf cluster and the Cross of Valor from the State of Oklahoma. While serving as an Army medic in the Philippines under General McArthur, Adam was captured and held in the Japanese war camps for 34 months. Adam was born on May 8, 1921 to Matilda and Emzey McCroskey in Bearden, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents, baby daughter Linda Joyce McCroskey and his great- granddaughter Hannah Leigh Ann Moring.

Survivors include his wife Helen McCroskey of the home;

children, Patricia Johnston, Carl McCroskey of Guthrie,

Diana and husband Tommy Yates of Henryetta, Janet and husband Roy Ryan of Wann, OK, Teresa and husband Marcus Yancey of Henryetta, Brenda and husband Bobby Jeffries of Sapulpa, Connie and husband Buddy Jordan of Escondido, CA, Kevin and wife Dana McCroskey of Choctaw;

a sister, Zella Graham of Spring Valley, CA, brother: James and wife Arvella of Henryetta; 19 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers are Allen Johnston, Stephen Fox, Kenneth Wheat, Phillip Wheat, Roy Ryan and Bobby Jeffries.

Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home of Henryetta.

RUBY DURBIN

Ruby Durbin, 90, of Dewar died Nov. 26, 2002 in Okmulgee. She was born July 15, 1912 in Bonanza, Ark.,to Hanna (Clark) Dodds and Robert W. Dodds.

She worked for many years as a postal clerk for the Dewar Post Office. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dewar. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Durbin on Sept. 2, 1991, one brother James Dodds, six sisters, Sue Smith, Edna Hightower, Ann Maltby, Elizabeth Dodds, and Geneva Hogan.

Survivors include two daughters, Delores McIntosh and husband Abe of Okmulgee and Deanna Stephenson and husband Bill of Broken Arrow; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren

Services will be held on Friday, November 29, at 10:30 a.m. at the Dewar First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jack Vance, Eulogy by Abe McIntosh. Burial will be at WestIawn Cemetery. Services are under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

VELMA LEE BAKER

Velma Lee "Sissy" Baker, 56, a resident of Henryetta, died Thursday, November 28, 2002 at Blackwell, Oklahoma. She was born July 5, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Annie Lois (Mathis) Tresner and Virgil Lee Tresner.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Virgil & Annie Tresner; two brothers, Virgil L. Tresner & Vernon L. Tresner.

Survivors include two daughters, Rona Weaver and husband, Larry, of Dewar and Lora Thompson of Okmulgee; two grandchildren, Brian Weaver of Dewar and Haylee Nuckolls of Okmulgee and one brother, Varney L. Tresner of Dewar.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 2, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Cemetery, with Rev. Lee Nuckolls officiating. Services are under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

LUCY NORWOOD

Lucy Elizabeth Norwood, 93, of Morris, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at the Cimarron Pointe Nursing Home in Mannford, OK. She was born February 7, 1909 in Morris to Josiah Thomas and Georgia Ann (Weaver) Hurt. She later married Harvey Edward Norwood. Mr. Norwood preceded her in death on March 3, 1992, a son, Robert Norwood, also preceded her in death in 1974, two brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Nova and Husband Reverend Dale Coy of Mannford, OK and four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2002 at the United Pentecostal Church in Morris with the Reverend El Roy Martin officiating and Reverend Larry Grissom assisting. Interment will be at the Morris Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Morris.

Casketbearers will be Jimmy Hurt, Danny Hurt, Johnny Lee Whitaker, Stanley Stafford, Duaine Hurt, Michael Hurt, Afton Stafford.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 1, 2002 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Morris from 1:00p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
