LESTER MINYARD

Lester Wayne "Skip" Minyard, 52, of Henryetta died Dec. 19, 2002. He was born September 6, 1950 in Henryetta to Alberta Mae (Gunning) and Lester Lee Mlnyard.

He worked for Anchor Glass Company for 23 years and retired in 2000. Skip served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Skip was a member of the First Assembly of God in Henryetta. He was a past member of the Henryetta School Board, an avid sporlsman, hunter and fisherman and he loved spending time with his son.

Survivors include his son, Lester (Trey) Minyard III, Henryetta; stepson, Dale Risley and wife Lori of Morris; step grandchildren, two brothers, Charles Powell and wife Donna of Fort Gibson and Robert (Bob) Minyard of Henryetta; two sisters, Ladonna Dodge and husband Dennis and Betty Allen and husband Everett, all of Henryetta and other relatives and friends

Pallbearers will be Jody Agee, Danny Tourett, Monroe Brlson, Tim Donovan, Dennis Johnson and Jimmy Thompson.

Services will be held Monday, December 23, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Assembly of God in Henryetta officiated by Rev. Rodney George, assisted by Sister Judy Allen of Wainwright. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

Nathaniel Thomas

Nathaniel Thomas, 66, a resident of Okmulgee, died on Friday, Dec. 19 in a Tulsa hospital.

Arrangements are pending with the House of Winn Funeral Home.

ALVA WEAVER

Alva "Cleo" Weaver, 86, 47 year resident of Okmulgee, died December 23, 2002. He was born April 6, 1916 in Maynard, Arkansas to James Lewis and Gertie Maggie (Meridith) Weaver.

He married Lucille Ida Garrett on March 14, 1940 at San Jose, California. He retired from the County of Okmulgee. He was employed as a truck driver in road maintenance, retiring in 1972. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Gertie Ruth Bell; three brothers, Dillard Weaver, Delmar "Scrappy" Weaver, and Raleigh Weaver; three sisters, Ettie Catharine Weaver, Inez Weaver, and Effie McCall.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Ida Weaver of Okmulgee; one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Bonnie Weaver of Ceres, California; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Duane Gehle of Morris, and Shirley and Bill Johnston of Kingman, Arizona; one brother, Ammon Weaver of Mounds; two sisters, Erple Castor of Okmulgee and Gerald Dean Brimer of Jenks; eighteen grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at the Morris Cemetery Chapel in Morris on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Shane Weaver, nephew of Mr. Weaver and Reverend Johnny Leybas officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Monday evening. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

PHI DELTA NEAL

Phi Delta Lee Neal, 99, died Saturday, December 28, 2002 in Okmulgee.

She was born on Sunday, June 28, 1903 to James and Stella (Tiger) Evans in Muskogee, Indian Territory. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Neal in 1991; a son, Edward Charles Neal, a daughter, Linda Neal, one sister and one brother.

Survivors include a daughter, Delta Truby and husband, Tom of Okmulgee; step sister, Arletta Anderson of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

Services are pending with the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home.

DONALD COWAN

Donald L. Cowan, 80, of Henryetta died Dec. 29, 2002 at Henryetta. He was born Aug. 26, 1922 in McIntosh County to Jimand Laura Cowan.

He served with the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at the smelter and then as a police officer for 19 years.

Services are pending with the Rogers Funeral Home of Henryetta.

JOHN DAVIS

John Davis, 51,Okmulgee resident, died Monday morning, December 30, 2002 at the Veteran's Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was born October 15, 1951 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Wesley and Norma Davis.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Wesley Davis, of Okmulgee, a sister, Sandra Davis, of the home, and five children, Jennifer, Tonya, John, Kelly, and Josh Davis, all of Houston.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Guy Langston officiating. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

PHI DELTA NEAL

Phi Delta Lee Neal, 99, died Saturday, December 28, 2002 in Okmulgee. Services are Friday, January 3, 2003 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Okmulgee with the Rev. Gareth Holford officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

She was born on Sunday, June 28, 1903 to James and Stella (Tiger) Evans in Muskogee, Indian Territory. She was one of the few remaining Original Allotees on the Creek Indian Roll. Mrs. Neal was a professional dancer during the late 20's and at one time came from Chicago to perform at the Orpheum Theater in Okmulgee, when stage shows were all the rage. She was a life-long teacher of dance, operating studios in Tulsa, Okmulgee, Idabel, Henryetta, and Oklahoma City. She also operated the Phi Delta Academy of Dance in Stillwater for 22 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Dance Masters of America, Checcetii Council of America, Texas and Chicago Dance Associations.

Phi Delta married Willard C. Neal of Beggs in 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard in 1991; and two children, Linda Diane Stoll and Edward Charles Neal.

Survivors include a daughter, Delta Lee Neal Truby and husband, Tom of Okmulgee; step sister, Arletta Anderson of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece, Iris Eby of Stillwater; and two nephews, James Mears of Tulsa and Cecil Mears of Oklahoma City.

JOHN DAVIS

John Davis, Okmulgee resident, died Monday morning, December 30, 2002 at the Veteran's Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was 51 years of age. Mr. Davis was born October 15, 1951 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Wesley and Norma (Wood) Davis. He had served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He had worked as a tankerman for Petro Chemical Engineer and most recently at LRS in Beggs, prior to his illness. He loved music, especially his guitar, enjoyed woodworking, was a railroad buff, loved airplanes, was a pilot and enjoyed astronomy. He had enjoyed sailing in his 62' sailboat, and loved to fish and cook. Mr. Davis spent most of his life in San Antonio and then Houston, moving to Okmulgee in the Spring of 1999. As a young boy he was a Boy Scout then an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Wesley Davis, of Okmulgee, a sister, Sandra Davis, of the home, and five children, Jennifer, Tonya, John, Kelly, and Josh Davis, all of Houston.

Funeral services were held 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Guy Langston officiating. Interment followed in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.

DONALD COWAN

Donald L. Cowan, 80, of Henryetta died on December 29, 2002 in Henryetta. He was born Aug. 26, 1922 in McIntosh County to Jim and Laura Cowan.

Don served in the US Navy during WW II. He worked at the smelter and then as a police officer for 19 years, He married Dorthy Whisenhunt on April 9, 1946 in McIntosh County. Don was a member of the Hoffman First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include is wife, Dorothy Cowan of the home; his daughter, Cindy Cowan of New York City; two sons, Stan Cowan of Haskell and John Cowan of Witchita, Kan.; three grandchildren; a brother Yale Cowan of Checotah; a sister, Olean Reeves of Eufaula and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday January 3, 2003 at the Triplet Cemetery, Eufaula, Ok. Services are under direction of Rogers Funeral Home of Henryetta.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hoffman Baptist Church building fund.

FREDERICK COURTNEY

Frederick Jackson Courtney, 71, longtime Okmulgee County resident, died Friday, January 3, 2003 at his home. He was born July 15, 1931 to Elbert and Margie (Geraldon) Courtney in Alba, Texas. He was a member of the Mounds Pentecostal Church and retired from the Auto Body Business in 1990 after 30 years. He had also been an undercover agent at one time. He enjoyed boating and fishing, and had been active in the Mounds Lions Club.

Mr. Courtney was preceded in death by his first wife, Evon Courtney on June 5, 1989, his parents, two sisters, Virginia Burgess and Joyce Alvis, and a brother, Elbert Courtney.

Survivors include his wife, Leora (Gordon) Courtney, who he married November 19, 1990 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, his children, Randy Courtney, Stanley Courtney, and Bruce Courtney, a step-daughter, Sherry Brookshire, two step-sons, Reginald Rutland and Bobby Rutland, a sister, Zaira Counterman, fifteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Fortress of Faith in Mounds with the Reverend Ira Hargis officiating. Interment will follow in the Beggs Cemetery with Will Gordon, Bill Gordon, Robert Gordon, Eldon Gordon, Reginald Rutland and Bobby Rutland serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Benjamin Courtney, Dustin Courtney, Junior Wilbourn, Tony Rutland, Ryan Reyes, and Rick Shelton. Friends may visit the funeral home from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2003. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.

MILDRED GREEN

Mildred Green, 86, longtime resident of Beggs, Oklahoma, died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born on July 27, 1916 to Roy Johnson Hodges and Mattie Mabel O'Neal Hodges in Nuyaka, OK. She married Norman Alfred Green on December 4, 1937 in Bristow, OK. She worked as a school cafeteria cook and retired as a cook from the Beggs Nursing Home. She was a Homemaker for many years.

Mrs. Green enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She was an avid quilter and loved flower gardening. She was a member of the Osage Hill HCE for 52 years and was currently serving as President. She was a member of the former Iris Flower club of Beggs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 37 years, and two brothers Robert Hodges and Harold Hodges, two sisters-in-laws Anna Hodges and Mildred Hodges.

Survivors include her four children, Joann Shelton and husband Wesley of Slick, OK, Norma Nell Maas and husband Clarence of Morris, OK, Ed Green and wife Sharon of Mannford, OK and Ronnie Green and wife Mary of Beggs, OK; one brother Neal Hodges of Houston, TX; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Hodges of Springfield, MA, and Juanita Hodges of Okmulgee, ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Beggs Cemetery with the Reverend Gary Wilburn officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, January 6, 2003 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Beggs. Her Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

CARL NAGEL

Carl Fredrick Nagel, 67, a former resident of Beggs, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 at his home in Norman, OK.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha of the home; a sister, Pattie Atchley of Paris, AR; brothers, Ronnie of Oklahoma City and Ben of Beggs..

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Edmond, OK Cemetery.

MILDRED GREEN
