JERRY LYNN BATES

Jerry Lynn Bates, Okmulgee resident, passed away Wednesday night, January 8, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 66 years of age. Mr. Bates was born in Okmulgee on January 28, 1936 to Edgar Lynn and Katie Mae (Mayes) Bates. He was a plumber, a member of the VFW Post 1189 and the Elk's Lodge 1822. Survivors and arrangements will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

EVA JEWEL (BRICKEY) TYGART

Eva Jewel Tygart passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at her home in Tucson, AZ. Eva was 90 years old. Eva Jewel was born on August 21, 1921 in Saffell, AR to Hugh and Daisy Mae (Birmingham) Brickey. She married Hampton B. Tygart on February 8, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Eva was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was a Methodist. She was a long time employee of American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Daisy (Birmingham) Brickey. Husband, Hampton B. Tygart. Four brothers, Audry, Ezra, Lenvil, and J. R. Brickey. Three sisters, Ruby Dorothy Yakopec, Iva Wyrick, and Dora Kinser.

Survivors include one daughter, Jane Tygart, one son and daughter-in-law, Hampton "Sonny" and Joan Tygart, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

LOIS HARRISON

Lois L. Harrison, 82, of Poteau, formerly of Henryetta, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Poteau. She was born May 10, 1920 in Henryetta to Bertha and Guy Jones.

She was a graduate of Henryetta High School. On January 6, 1943, she was married to Joseph C. Harrison in Farragut, Idaho. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker, an avid golfer, a member of the Poteau FCE, and the Belle Point Quilters.

Survivors include her son Dr. Terry J. Harrison and his wife Emily of Poteau; three grandchildren and a sister and brother-in-law Mary and Bill Downs of Lindale, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Harrison, Tommy Harrison, Brad Penny, Will Penny, Kevin Harris and Don Whitfield, nephews of the Harrisons.

Graveside services will be under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home at the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta, January 9 at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 8 in Henryetta at the funeral home beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Poteau or Leflore County Youth Services, also of Poteau.

JAMES L. ABEL

James L. Abel, 86, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Friday, January 10, 2003 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Graveside Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Rev. Willis Baldridge officiating. Services are under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

He was born on Friday, January 5, 1917 to Charlie and Annie (Brumback) Abel in Collinsville, Oklahoma. On September 6, 1935, he married Nora D. Stange in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Mr. Abel was a retired floor sander and carpenter. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Nora of the home; one daughter, Anita Howe and husband Claude of Okmulgee; two grandsons, Robert Howe and wife Jona of Okmulgee and Tony Howe and wife Sheryl of Muskogee; four great grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Noel, and Cory Howe; and one great great granddaughter, Candice Bardonnex of California.

JOSEPH L. HARGETT

Joseph L. Hargett, 86, an Okmulgee resident for 84 years, died Friday, January 10, 2003 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Graveside Services are 2 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Dr. Frank Lewis officiating. Services are under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

He was born Saturday, May 6, 1916 to William Joseph and Lela (Lowrance) Hargett in Holdenville, Oklahoma. On December 25, 1937, he married Jacqueline S. Stewart in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Mr. Hargett owned Hargett Appliance Repair for many years.

Mr. Hargett was a member of the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee and a life member of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Hargett on January 13, 1990 and his sister, Elizabeth Hargett Elliff on October 22, 1991.

Survivors include niece, Mrs. Dianne Burgess, nephew Dan Stewart, and seven other nephews.

LORENE S. AUSTIN

Lorene S. Austin, a resident of Dewar was born February 27, 1920, in Ranger, Texas to Burl and Allie (Taylor) Hollingsworth . She passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Tulsa, OK. at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 7 days. She was a Homemaker. Lorene was a longtime member of the United Pentecostal Church in Dewar. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Austin, in April 1988; Brother, Preston Hollingsworth in 1987; Sister, Hazel Howard, in 1992.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Charla Smith, of Tulsa; and Judy G. Taber & Husband Jerry, of Dewar; 7 grandchildren, Gaylene Clark, and Darla Shawhart, and Cindy Watson, and Dennis Smith, and Doug Fowler, and Steve Fowler, and Wendall Smith; 17 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Jackson Hollingsworth & wife Mary, of Adair, OK.; 1 sister, Marie Clements & husband Darrell, of Taylor, Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Smith, Dog Fowler, Steve Fowler, Wendall Smith, Kyle Posey, Travis Posey, Justin Grandstaff, Heather Shawhart, HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Pauline Turner, Gladys Roberts, Gladys Deal, Margaret Hammack, and Juanema Madariaga.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Dewar United Pentecostal Church officiated by Rev. Matthew Martin, assisted by Rev. M.D. Deal. Burial will be at the New Sonora Cemetery, under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

EVA JEWEL

(BRICKEY) TYGART

Seven grandchildren and spouses, Eva Cristina and John Harris, Gina Rodriguez, Susana and Jorge Nava, Sandra Rodriguez, Debra and Vernon Geiger, Carlisle "Tony" and Thairy Rodriguez, Walter Rodriguez and Terrie Eisensee.

Other survivors include eleven great grandchildren, Marcela Rzemien; Miguel Salcedo; Jorge and Michelle Nava; Carol, Rebecca, Maria, and David Rodriguez; Andrew "Andy" Tygart; Carlos and Alejandro Rodriguez.

Eva also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Services will be announced by the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

CECILIA WILSON

Cecilia Wilson, 94, longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Saturday, January 11, 2003 in a local nursing home.

Services are pending with the House of Winn Funeral Home.

BILL HARDIN

Bill Hardin, 83, of Morris, died Saturday, January 11, 2003 in Morris. He was born on May 7, 1919.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gertie Hardin.

Services are pending with the Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

ALBERT BROWN

Albert Brown, 55, of Beggs, OK passed away Sunday, January 5, 2003. He was born December 30, 1947 to Charlie Moore and Elvenia Brown Roberson. Mr. Brown was a member of the United States Army.

Survivors include a son Darrien Matthews and his wife Elizabeth of Vancouver, British Columbia, a brother Hosea Roberson Jr., Larry Roberson, Ronnie Roberson, a sister Brenda Ann Watson and father Charlie Moore.

Those that have preceded him in death are his Mother Elvenia Roberson his Adopted Mother Rebecca Wilson, a Cousin Georgia Reado and a brother Daryl Roberson.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at the First Baptist Church South in Beggs with Dr. Maurice Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the New Post Oak Cemetery in Beggs under the Direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Beggs.

The VFW Post 1189 of Okmulgee and VFW Post 539 in Henryetta will perform veterans Funeral Rites.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 13, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Beggs.

KAREN A. DANIELS

Karen A. Nimrod-Daniels, 62, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Sunday, January 5, 2003 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Memorial services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Kelley Chapel with the Reverend Tim Brittain and Reverend Bob Kennedy officiating. Services are under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

She was born on Monday, June 10, 1940 to William Henry and Juanita (Niles) Bomhoff in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On December 23, 1985 she married David L. Daniels in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Rachel Baker in 1984; and her adoptive mother, Juanita Davis in 1992.

Survivors include husband, David L. Daniels of the home; three sons, Daniel K. Nimrod of Washington, D.C., Randell L. Daniels of Morris, Oklahoma and Mark Daniels of Conway, Arkansas; four daughters, Euvah Nimrod Bryant of Morgan City, Louisiana, Elizabeth Nimrod of Okmulgee, Sharon Nimrod Fortner of Marysville, Washington, and Renae Daniels Sweeten of Moore, Oklahoma; one brother, Billy Bomhoff of El Reno, Oklahoma; one aunt, Margaret Palmer of Jay, Oklahoma; two cousins, Terry Palmer of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Deborah Springer of Jay, Oklahoma.

The family requests that memorials be made in her name to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association, Inc., @ AARDA National Office, 22100 Gratiot Avenue, E. Detroit, MI 48021.

GLADYS HUNT

Gladys Hunt, 72, a resident of the city died Saturday, January 11, 2003. She was born March 28, 1930 in Nuyaka, OK to Mountell and Melva (Cotton) Frazier.

She was a homemaker, and the pastor of the House of Prayer church in Okmulgee.

Preceding her in death are her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include the husband, Elvin Hunt Sr., Beaumont, five daughters, Rebecca Reed and husband, Edward Jr, Wichita, KS, JoAnn Payne, Tulsa, Melba Fields and husband Melvin, Tulsa, Susan Smith and husband Leon, Tulsa, Brenda Boone, Tulsa, a sister, Earnestine Barnett, Okmulgee, two brothers, Winston Frazier, Okmulgee and Jesse Frazier and wife, Shirley, Kansas City, MO; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren along with her church family and numerous friends.

A joyous Homegoing Celebration will be conducted, Saturday, Jan. 18th at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 5th & Seminole with her brother, Jesse Frazier, delivering the eulogy. Interment will be in Okmulgee cemeteryunder the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation, Friday, 12 Noon until 6 P.M.
