RUBY MARIE WHITE

Ruby Marie White, longtime Okmulgee resident, died Monday evening, January 13, 2003 at Okmulgee Memorial Hospital. She was 94 years of age. Mrs. White was born July 15, 1908 in Osage County to Miles and Lou (Musgrave) Johnston. She was raised in Osage County until the age of five when her family moved to Bartlesville. She graduated from Bartlesville High School in 1927, and became the secretary to the Superintendent of Bartlesville Schools. As a senior in high school she was the state typing champion, winning a trip to New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. to participate in the National Competition.

She married Burrell Stewart and moved to Okmulgee in 1936 with Phillips Petroleum. He preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. White had worked at Okmulgee Land and Title for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee. She later married Latta White, who also preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands, her parents, two brothers, Leroy Johnston and Monroe Johnston and a sister, Eula Johnston Kelley, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Burgess of Okmulgee, a son, Dan Stewart of Edwards, Colorado, a step-daughter, Joyce Carson and husband Carly of Okmulgee, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2003 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery with Everett Rea, Timothy Rea, Kevin Rea, Spencer Stewart, and Alex Rea, grandsons and great grandsons serving as casketbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

GLADYS HUNT

Gladys Hunt, 72, a resident of the city died Saturday, January 11, 2003. She was born March 28, 1930 in Nuyaka, OK to Mountell and Melva (Cotton) Frazier.

She was a homemaker, and the pastor of the House of Prayer church in Okmulgee.

Preceding her in death are her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include the husband, Elvin Hunt Sr., Beaumont, five daughters, Rebecca Reed and husband, Edward Jr, Wichita, KS, JoAnn Payne, Tulsa, Melba Fields and husband Melvin, Tulsa, Susan Smith and husband Leon, Tulsa, Brenda Boone, Tulsa, one son, Elvin Hunt Jr. and wife Gwendolyn, a sister, Earnestine Barnett, Okmulgee, two brothers, Winston Frazier, Okmulgee and Jesse Frazier and wife, Shirley, Kansas City, MO; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren along with her church family and numerous friends.

A joyous Homegoing Celebration will be conducted, Saturday, Jan. 18th at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 5th & Seminole with her brother, Jesse Frazier, delivering the eulogy. Interment will be in Okmulgee cemeteryunder the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation, Friday, 12 Noon until 6 p.m.

ETTA TIMMONS

Etta Timmons, 92, of Henryetta died Jan. 11, 2003 at Henryetta. She was born March 8, 1910 in Sitry, Oklahoma to Clara Ann and George Edward Griswold.

She was married to Holbert Timmons April 26, 1944. She was a homemaker and a member of Dewar United Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Holbert Timmons, April 23, 1952, her parents George and Clara Griswold, two Brothers Lloyd Griswold, Bill Griswold, three Sisters: Erma Palmer, Bertha Andorfer, and Faye Foster.

She is survived by two children, Frieda VanZant and husband Dale, Phoenix, Arizona; Ralph D. Thompson and wife Frances, Henryetta, seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters in law, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Rev. Gregg Joki, Richard Wayne Pulliam, Terry Morris, Donald Walker, Joe Wade and Norman Rogers.

Services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at The United Pentecostal Church in Dewar, Oklahoma, officiated by Rev. Matthew Martin and Rev. M. D. Deal. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

JERRY LYNN BATES

Jerry Lynn Bates, Okmulgee resident, died Wednesday night, January 9, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 66 years of age. Mr. Bates was born in Okmulgee on January 28, 1936 to Edgar Lynn and Katie Mae (Mayes) Bates. He was a plumber, a member of the VFW Post 1189 and the Elk's Lodge 1822. His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters Susan Hord of Kellyville, Sevena Prapher of Tulsa, and Jerri Lynn Welsh of Fayetteville, AR, five sons Russell Blaylock, Jay Blaylock both of Hominy, Joey Blaylock of Mannford, Michael of Tulsa, and James Robert Bates of Greensburgh, PA, two brothers Jim Bates, Okmulgee and Gordon Bates of Tulsa, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at the McClendon-Winters Chapel in Okmulgee at 10:30 on Saturday, January 18, 2003.

DEACON LEE WALKER

Deacon Lee Walker, 96, of Tulsa and formerly of Okmulgee, died Jan. 11, 2003 in Tulsa.

He was a retired custodian.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan 18, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church Central under direction of the New Dyer Memorial Chapel, Inc. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan 17 from 100 a.m., until 7 p.m., at Dyer Funeral Chapel.

JERRY BILL LAIR

Jerry Bill Lair, 57 of Preston died Jan. 6, 2003 at Henryetta. He was born Oct. 11, 1945 at Anadarko to Junior and Betty Lair.

He served in the National Guard and was mobilized during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a graduate of OSU-Okmulgee, holding an associate degree. He was a longtime auto body repairman, owning his own shop until ill heath prohibited his working. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Lair of the home; a son, Aaron Lair of Okmulgee; his dad and stepmother, David and Celeste Kassing of Perkins; seven brothers, Merle Lair of Cherokee, Kan., Mike Kassing of Houston, Terry Barr of Oklahoma City, Mark Kassing of Hollingsworth, Neb., Keith Kassing of Milwaukee, and David and John Kassing of Colorado Springs; one sister, Linda K. Kassing of Marysville, Kan., and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan.10 at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Weleetka with Rev. Gerald Huckleberry officiating. Arrangements were under direction of the Williamson Funeral Home of Wetumka.

PEARL HELEN JONES

Pearl Helen Jones, 76, of Henryetta died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 in Tulsa, OK. She was born July 6, 1926 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Survivors include a nephew, Phillip Adzina of Millford, Conn., and a host of friends.

No service is planned and burial will be in Connecticut.

Arrangements are under direction of Shurden Funeral Home of Henryetta.

Dennis Derwood Daniel

Dennis Daniel was born November 23, 1942 in Kinta, OK and passed away on January 14, 2003 at his home in Broken Arrow, OK.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn (Bradley) Daniel of 40 years, son David and his wife Lynette of Lee's Summit, MO, daughter DeAnn and her husband Andy Hillenburg of Broken Arrow, and six grandchildren Bryce, Taylor and Zachary Daniel and Sawyer, Drew and Hayden Hillenburg. Also survived by his mother Ina Daniel of Henryetta, four sisters, Freda Jones of Baton Rouge, La, Sheila Lambert of Henryetta, Wanda Pangborn of Okmulgee, and Barbara Cubitt of Skiatook, also numerous nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father Claudie Daniel.

He grew up in the Henryetta area and graduated from Wilson High School.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.

No services are planned.

CECELIA WILSON

Cecelia Wilson, 94, a long time resident of Okmulgee died Saturday, January 11, 2003 in a local nursing home. She was born October 11,1908 in Opelousas, LA to Henry and Mary (Gobert) Lyons Sr.

She was a homemaker.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, and five children.

Survivors include, four daughters, Florice Thompson and husband Samuel, Bernice Ashley and husband, George, Alice Johnson and husband Leon, all of Okmulgee, Lucille Edwards, Pittsburgh, PA.; two sons, Leon Wilson of Okmulgee and Sandow Wilson Jr, Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Mable Carr, Okmulgee, and Alesa Johnson, Tulsa, OK; 25 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. in Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church, with Father Amalor Vima, the celebrant. Interment will be in Our Lady of Grace cemeteryunder the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited, Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the Precious Memories Chapel. Visitation, Thursday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

ABEL WARREN

Abel Warren, 81, a long time resident of Okmulgee died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 in an Oklahoma City nursing home. He was born May 17, 1922 in Beggs, OK to Lucas Warren and Milie (Jefferson) Warren.

He received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Marine Corps in 1946. Abel was a retired farmer.

Preceding him in death are his parents and wife Christine in 1998.

Survivors include one brothers Woodrow Warren, Oklahoma City, and four sisters, Ora Lee Johnson, Preston, OK; Trulie Peters, Columbus, OH; Etta Evans, Columbus, OH; and Anna Simmons, Columbus, OH, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be conducted Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of God Evening Lights Saints with Bro. Charles Lowe officiating.

Burial will be in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of House of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
