FLORENCE MCCLELLAN

Florence Avann Sabatha McClellan, 71, long time Okmulgee resident died in an Oklahoma City hospital March 14, 2003. She was born September 25, 1931 in Hoffman, OK to Dock Zachary and Ozener Ligons.

Survivors includes five daughters, Evelyn Dawn Davis (Jimmie), Okmulgee, Roberta Hopson ( Maurice), Oklahoma City, Carolyn Payne, Okmulgee, Thomasine Hill (Edward), Aurora, CO; and Teletha Hayden (Gary), Oklahoma City; three sons, Jarnes McClellan, Jr., Morris, Harlas McClellan Aurora, CO, Timothy McClellan (Malissa), Okmulgee; one sister, Shirley Carter, Okmulgee; three brothers, Andrew Zachary, Hoffman, Robert Zachary, Okmulgee, James Zachary (Teresa) Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be conducted Saturday, March 22, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Church Of God Evening Lights Saints, Okmulgee, with Bro. Lucas Warren officiating. Burial will be in Hawkins Cemetery in Hoffman under direction of the House Of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday, 12 noon until 6 p.m.

LATANE MINERS

Carrie Latane Miners, 80, died in Okmulgee on Wednesday, April 2, 2003. She was born in Alabama on June 9, 1922 to Charles Wesley and Anna Lee Stearns.

She graduated from Okmulgee High School and had worked as a court reporter. She was married to Fredrick George Miners, who preceded her in death on February 19, 1979. Latane was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Okmulgee, the ECW and the Choir. Her parents, husband and a brother James Wesley Stearns preceded her in death.

Survivors include many friends.

Services will be on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer at 2 p.m. Fr. Norman Alexandre will officiate. Burial will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in her name.

DORIS L. RICE

Doris Lillian Rice, 85, of Tulsa, formerly of Henryetta died April3, 2003 in Tulsa. She was born September 9, 1917 in Dewar, Oklahoma to Nettie (Price) Wantiez and Frank Wantiez.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Rice in 1968, granddaughter, Kelly Koupe in 2002, sister Ruth Ann Capron, and one brother, Wayne Wantiez.

Survivors include her son, Joe Pat Rice of Henryetta; daughter, Lynne Koupe and husband Steve of Verdigris; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother, Frank Wantiez, El Cajon, California; a host of other relatives & friends.

Services were held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Shurden Chapel. Burial was at Westlawn Cemetery, Services were under direction of Shurden Funeral Home.

NATHANIEL BROWN

Nathaniel "Tique" Brown, 56, of Okmulgee, died on Monday, March 31, 2003 in a Tulsa hospital. He was born on March 12, 1947 In Okmulgee, the son of Rufus Brown Sr., and Pearlee Petty Brown.

He grew up in Okmulgee and attended Okmulgee Public Schools. He was a laborer and also worked for the City of Tulsa Sanitation Department. He was also a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of the city.

Survivors include his brother, Leandres Brown of Okmulgee; two sisters Arnetia Talton of Tulsa and Carolyn Byars of Dallas, Texas, along with other relatives and friends.

Service of Memory will be held on Monday, April 7, 2003 at11:00 a.m., in the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Reverend David Burks will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Okmulgee. Arrangements are under direction of the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 12 Noon until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

GEORGE SWEET

Services are pending with Hart Funeral Home in Tahlequah for former Henryetta resident George Henry Sweet, 98, who died April 4, 2003 in Welling. He was born on April 23, 1904 in Gainesville, Texas.

Sweet is survived by two daughters, Lola Palmer and husband, Morris, Henryetta; Carol Knowles and husband, Judd, Park Hill; and a son, Earl Sweet, Stilwell.

EMERT BROOKS

Emert Leon Brooks, 67, a resident of Henryetta, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 in Tulsa. He was born on November 8, 1935 in Wade, OK to Emert Leon and Lois Brooks. He was married to Lilly (Moore) Brooks in Okmulgee on May 30, 1957. He was a machinist for 22 years for the Dover Corporation, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Hoffman Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly of the home; three sons, Emert Leroy Brooks and wife Kelly of Morris, Gary Brooks and wife Melissa of McAlester, and Bradley Brooks of Henryetta; one daughter, Patricia Webster and husband Jerry of Morris; one brother, Bill Brooks and wife Jan of Sapulpa; six sisters, Martha Johnson of Oklahoma City, Imogene Bills of Little Axe, OK, Gaylene Palmer of Fort Worth, TX, Linda Cheek of Fort Worth, TX, and Judy Starkus of Durant, Kathleen Doyle of Durant; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dewar with Rev. Jack Shock and Rev. Dennis Bible officiating. Interment will follow at the Salem Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden Funeral Home.

SHIRLEY HENRY

Shirley Mae Henry, 78, a resident of Okmulgee, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 in Okmulgee. She was born in Portland, Oregon to George Oliver and Florence (Russingnol) Baird. Shirley was a Registered Nurse and had retired from the Department of Human Services.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Larry Henry. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Okmulgee.

Services and survivors will be announced by the McClendons-Winters Funeral Home.

WINFRED SUTER

Winfred Don Suter, 57, of Okmulgee, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in McAlester, OK on February 8, 1946 to Winfred A. and Lucy Mae (Barnett) Suter. Mr. Suter had worked in oil fields and on Highway construction but his main love was the Fruit, Vegetable and plant stand and the people he was able to visit and serve there. He also enjoyed and owned motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by a son, Don Allen, twin grandchildren, Stephen and Patience and his father, Winfred Allen Suter.

Survivors include his mother, Lucy Mae Suter; two sons, Mickey Don Suter and his wife Teresa, Pink Allen and his wife Nicky and their son Paine Allen Suter; three step sisters, Patricia Buckman, Sunny Fuller, and Jackie Stephens; and a nephew raised in the home, Johnny K. Beasley; other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee with the Reverend Tim Beam officiating. Interment will follow in the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee.

The family will be receiving friends from 7-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee on Sunday, April 6, 2003.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please send donations to the organization of your choice.

HARVEY DILLON

Harvey A. Dillon, 77, died Monday, April 07, 2003 in Tulsa. Oklahoma. Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 in the Okmulgee Cemetery.

Survivors will be announced by the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee.

SEDALIA BROWN

Sedalia Brown, 86, a homemaker and long time resident of Okmulgee died in a local nursing home March 31, 2003. She was born in Beggs, November 6, 1916 to William and Fannie (Wilson) Stokes, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include one daughter, Lillie Brown of Okmulgee three sons, Theo Brown (Laverne), Tulsa, Doug Brown (Lois), Tulsa, and Marvin Ellis (Detra), Okmulgee,; one sister, Fannie Jones, Tulsa; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A Homegoing Celebration will be conducted April 9, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1500 N. Miami, with Rev David Burks officiating. Burial will be in the Northwest Cemetery #1 under the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 12 noon until 6 p.m.

EFFIE JOHNSON

Effie Lee Johnson, 92, a homemaker and longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Friday, April 4, 2003 in a local nursing home. She was born on January 17, 1911 in Okmulgee to George and Princie (Choate) Wilson.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sisters, Maxine Parker of Okmulgee and Ruth Nash of Okmulgee; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of the House of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Monday, April 7, 2003 from 12-6 p.m.
