Bertha Irene (Davis) Randles

Seminole homemaker Bertha Irene (Davis) Randles died Saturday in Seminole at the age of 92.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mrs. Randles was born May 31, 1906, in Higginsville, Mo., to Charles William Davis and Mary Ann (Fieldcamp) Davis.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and an avid bowler.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Randles of Seminole; two daughters, Lorene Roberts of Seminole and Virginia Dobbs of McGregor, Texas; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

J.D. Barnett

Tecumseh resident J.D. Barnett died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. He was 66.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Barnett was born May 13, 1932, in Macomb to Riley Thomas and Ola May Bell (Rider) Barnett. He married Barbara Sons on Sept. 24, 1987, in Denton, Texas.

He was the owner and operator of J.D. Barnett Construction, Inc. and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Tecumseh. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Barnett, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Jenifer Barnett, Flower Mound, Texas; Randy and Kim Barnett, Raymore, Mo.; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Ray Sulak, Lewisville, Texas; stepson and spouse, Danny and Brenda Bird, Sanger, Texas; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Connie and Nancy Barnett, Darby, Mont.; James and Sandra Sons, Sanger, Texas; brother, Charley Barnett, Shawnee; sisters, Elsie Coley, Laura Davis and Naomi Winsett, all of Shawnee; Delcie Folks and Juanita Gentry, both of Tecumseh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Murrel and Ed Dwight, Midwest City; Ester and Gene Carter, Konawa; Norma and Lloyd Carter, Duncan; sister-in-law, Gussie Barnett, Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Chester Lovette, California; mother-in-law, Velma Sons, Sanger, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Riley and Rayford Barnett; sister, Ruby Lovette.

Barton Glen Edmiston

Wellston resident Barton Glen Edmiston died Monday at his home. He was 79.

A Christian wake will be 7 p.m. today at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, McLoud. Services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church with Father Eugene Marshall officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Edmiston was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Henderson, Texas, to Eli and Elizabeth (English) Edmiston. He married Sadie Halfmann on Dec. 25, 1942, at Camp Edwards, Mass.

He was a manager at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in San Angelo, Texas, and in Oklahoma City. He was also a driver for Sun Ray DX in Oklahoma City. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Edmiston, of the home; son, Mike Edmiston, Wellston; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Kathleen Edmiston, and his parents.

Auda P. Brown

El Reno resident Auda P. Brown died Tuesday in Shreveport, La. She was 92.

Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Greg Blackman officiating.

Mrs. Brown was born March 28, 1906, in Avoca, Okla., to William and Minnie Collins. She married Fred Brooks Brown.

She lived in the Pure Oil camp, near Madill, until 1957 when she moved to Waco, Texas, and later Oklahoma City where she worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission. She retired in 1975 and moved to Bossier City, La.

She moved to El Reno in 1989.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Henry H. and Mary Ann Brown, Huntsville, Texas; B.J. and Sherie Brown, Bossier City, La.; brothers, Mearl Collins, Choctaw; Coy Collins, Shawnee; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1957; three brothers and four sisters.

Vernetta Price

Shawnee resident Vernetta Price died Monday at a local hospital. She was 94.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dr. Paul Calmes officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Price was born Sept. 13, 1903, in Sentinel to Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Lyon. She married Allen Arthur Price on Sept. 5, 1922, in Cordell, Okla.

Mrs. Price graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. She was the manager of Blaines Shop in downtown Shawnee until 1969. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Donald M. and Patsy A. Price, Shawnee; son, William B. Price, Shawnee; daughter-in-law, Loretta Price, Norman; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Price in 1958; son, Jack Price, in 1970; her parents; sisters, Maybelle Blaine, Nora Wilcox and Naomi Fruit; brothers, Roy Lyon and Murphy Lyon.

Nat C. Bettis Jr.

Oklahoma Baptist University professor emeritus Dr. Nat C. Bettis Jr. died Thursday in a San Angelo, Texas, hospital. He was 78.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of San Angelo with the Rev. Ronnie Laughlin officiating. Burial will be at Belvedere Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Nat C. Bettis Jr. was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Little Rock, Ark., to Nat C. and Ola Meador Bettis. He graduated from Little Rock Senior High School in 1937 was in Civilian Conservation Corps Company 3794 and attended Arkansas A&M at Monticello.

He received his bachelor's degree in 1942 and master's degree in 1944 from Baylor University. He received his bachelor of divinity in 1948 and doctor of theology in 1950 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He married Gladys Elaine Browning in Waco, Texas, on Nov. 20, 1942. He was ordained to the ministry on Dec. 14, 1941. He was pastor of more than 50 churches in four states and taught at the University of Corpus Christi in Texas from 1950 to 1961, and at Carson-Newman College in Tennessee from 1961 to 1974.

Dr. Bettis came to OBU in 1974 as associate professor of religion and in-service training director. He was named religious vocations counselor in 1980 and professor emeritus of religion in 1989 after retirement.

He also was chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol, and had been a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee. He was author of numerous published articles and, after retirement, served as adjunct biblical studies professor for Howard Payne University and Baylor University.

Dr. Bettis is survived by his wife, Gladys Elaine, of the home in San Angelo, Texas; one son, Sgt. Nat Browning Bettis, Noble; daughter and son-in-law, Myra Lin Bettis Murphy and Sgt. Mike Murphy, Nome, Alaska, and two grandchildren, Erin Murphy and Patricia Murphy, Nome.

Memorials may be made to Baptist Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Box 5661, San Angelo TX 76903.

Thelma Jean Bateman

Konawa resident Thelma Jean Bateman died Tuesday in Oklahoma City at the age of 71.

She was born March 2, 1927, in Konawa to Lucille Dutton and Eugene Wano. She married Alvin Bateman at Fort Smith, Ark., on Oct. 3, 1950, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Amaranth.

Surviving are her husband, Alvin Bateman, Konawa; three daughters, Patty Prestidge, Thelma Terese, both of Huber Springs, Ark.; Norma Gaut, Konawa; three sons, Larry Bateman, Oklahoma City; Steve Bateman, Santa Rosa, Calif.; Chuck Higgins, Concord, Calif.; sisters, Mildred Etheredge, Hugo; Mary McCarty, Oklahoma City; Catherine Bishop, Tuolumne, Calif.; Donald Wano, Stockton, Calif.; Bill Wano, Leavinworth, Calif., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pickard Funeral Home Chapel, Konawa, with the Rev. Bob Metcalfe officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Cordis Monroe Slaughter

Longtime area resident Cordis Monroe Slaughter of Shawnee died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 94.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Criswell Chapel in Ada with the Rev. Meredith Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.

Cordis Monroe Slaughter was born Jan. 24, 1904, in Trousdale, Indian Territory, the son of Jim Slaughter and Sammie Mae Cannon Slaughter. He attended school at Wanette and also had lived in Holdenville.

He worked overseas in the oil fields for Socony Vacuum Oil Co. and Baxter Oil Co., and married Jeannette Levy on April 28, 1947, in Cairo, Egypt.

He was a member of the International Order of the Elks of Holdenville and the Pipefitters and Steamfitters Union, Local 250, of Los Angeles.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, of the home; two sons, Robert Slaughter, New York, N.Y.; Cordis Slaughter Jr., Shawnee; sister, Oleta Alexander, Ada; brother, James Slaughter, Vacaville, Calif., and two grandchildren.
