Etta Rogers

Etta Rogers died Saturday in Bella Vista, Ark. She was 93.

She was born in Creek County, Oklahoma Territory, on Oct. 27, 1905, and was the daughter of James and Emma (Childress) Hill. She was a resident of Bella Vista, Ark., for 11 years, moving from Bartlett, Tenn. She formerly lived in Davenport, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Davenport. She married E.W. Rogers in Oklahoma in 1919. He preceded her in death in September 1967. She also was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two brothers, one sister and one son-in-law.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Doris Self of Shamrock, Texas, and Clara Lou and Don McCombs of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Davenport Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.

Earl D. Couch

Tecumseh resident Earl D. Couch died Thursday in Midwest City. He was 62.

Couch was born July 9, 1936, in Pauls Valley to Milligan and Amanda (Morrow) Couch. He married Louella Dalton on March 6, 1956, in El Reno.

He was reared in Pauls Valley and graduated from Norman High School in 1955. He had lived in the Tecumseh area since 1957 and owned and operated Couch Sheet Metal, Inc. since 1983.

He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Shawnee, was a past member of the Pottawatomie County Civil Defense Department and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 124.

Survivors include his wife, Louella Couch, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Doug Westerman, Tecumseh; daughter, Gayla Pledger, Tecumseh; son, Dan Couch, Tecumseh; sister, Opal Sawyer, Purcell; five grandchildren, Sarah Pledger, Robert Pledger Jr., Jeremy Westerman and Kasey Westerman, all of Tecumseh; Jennifer Couch, Seminole; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Jerry Couch; and one sister, Daphine Lell.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Church of the Nazarene, Shawnee, with Rev. Richard Dickinson officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel.

Robert Clinton Tyner

Lifelong Seminole resident Robert "Bob" Clinton Tyner died Friday at Seminole Municipal Hospital. He was 70.

Tyner was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Seminole to Clinton Edward "Ed" and Oma K. (Watkins) Tyner. He married Lou Ann Montgomery on Feb. 24, 1961, in Seminole.

Tyner owned and operated a car dealership in Seminole until his retirement in June of 1991. He was previously employed with Moran Pipe and Supply and Oklahoma Liquified Gas of Seminole.

He served in both the U.S. Army and Navy and received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Ann, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Danny Jackson, Midwest City; and one grandson, Damen Jackson, Midwest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Oma Tyner; and one sister, Kathrine Duff.

Services will be 2 p.m Monday at First Baptist Church, Seminole with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

b>Meda Bell Osborn

Prague resident Meda Bell "Peggy" Osborn died Friday in Stroud. She was 88.

Mrs. Osborn was born March 12, 1911, in Hayburn, Okla. She married George Osborn on June 22, 1946, in Ada.

She had lived in Prague since 1981 and was a member of the Church of the First Born and the Rebekka Lodge.

Survivors include her husband, George Osborn, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sally Osborn, Prague; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Billy Dean Osborn.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with R.C. Earnest officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery.

Eddie C. Henderson

Eddie C. Henderson, 76, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

He was born July 5, 1922, in Tifton, Ga., to John J. and Martha E. Henderson.

He was raised and attended school in Tifton, Ga. He was employed at Tinker Air Force Base and retired in 1985. He married Lois Holland on April 23, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a chief warrant officer (W-4) in the U.S. Army, retiring on July 1, 1965, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.

Henderson was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the VFW and Retired Officers Association. He had lived in Shawnee since 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Henderson, of the home; daughter Rhonda S. McGee, Arvada, Colo.; granddaughter Sydney L. McGee, Arvada, Colo.; two sisters, Elwanda Keen, Tifton, Ga., and Donnell Whitaker, Adel, Ga.; two brothers, Clyde Henderson, Tifton, Ga., and Donald Henderson, Tifton, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sidney J. Henderson; and one sister, Violet Coarcy.

Lorraine Hopkins Ownby

Former executive secretary Lorraine Hopkins Ownby died Saturday following a long battle with cancer. She was 80.

Mrs. Ownby graduated from Shawnee High School in 1937. She and her husband, Hugh, owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Wagoner for 15 years before moving to Springfield, Mo. in 1998.

She served as executive secretary to several presidents of Bacone College in Muskogee. She had previously lived in Shawnee, where she was executive secretary to the presidents of St. Gregory's College and Oklahoma Baptist University.

She became one of the first certified professional secretaries in Oklahoma in 1961 and was elected secretary of the year of the Redbud Chapter of the National Secretaries Association in 1968. She was also a teacher at University Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Ownby Rutherford, Huntsville, Ala.; sons, Steve Ownby, Springfield, Mo.; Kent Ownby, Edmond; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, in 1993.

Private family services will be held in Shawnee under the direction of Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, Springfield, Mo.

Contributions may be made to the Cancer Society, Bacone College Scholarship Fund or a favorite charity.

Kermit L. Casteel

Kermit L. "K.C." Casteel, 71, died Friday in Cushing.

He was born in Seminole on April 16, 1928, to Joe and Sadie May (Michael) Casteel.

He was married March 2, 1973, in Ada to Madalynne Hazel Talkington, who preceded him in death on Sept. 23, 1994. He was a Baptist and worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for many years before retiring in 1990.

His parents, wife, four sisters, and two brothers preceded him in death.

He is survived by one brother, Ellis Castell, Seminole, and a special friend, Goldie Gaylord, Chandler.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler, under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Pearl Lena Colbert

Pearl Lena Colbert, 76, Seminole, died July 30 in Shawnee.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1922, in Seminole to Walter Faye and Doshia Carrie Lee (Spencer) Mills. She married Earl Colbert. She was a Head Start teacher for Seminole Public Schools and a member of the Church of the Living God, Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, three sisters, and two brothers.

She is survived by sons Charles Colbert, Seminole, and William Colbert, Oklahoma City; daughters Edna Wilson and Linda Minner, both of Seminole, and Carolyn Smith, Hazen, Ark.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Galilee Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Crawford Sr., officiating. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery, Wewoka. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
