John Paris Atchison Jr.

John Paris Atchison Jr., 70, Seminole, died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Seminole on Jan. 21, 1928, to John Paris and Esther Christine (Jeffery) Atchison. He was a Seaman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Sara Jane Moore on July 12, 1948, in Las Vegas, Nev. He returned to Seminole five years ago from California. He was a retired salesman and a member of California chapters of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion.

His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, of the home, and three sons, Grayson Atchison, of the home, Robert Atchison, Pixley, Calif., and John Richard Atchison, Bakersfield, Calif.

Masonic rites will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at a graveside service in Little Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Billie (Sneed) Cannon

Billie (Sneed) Cannon, 89, died Wednesday at a Seminole nursing home.

She was born Aug. 6, 1908, to Spence and Sarah (Dehart) Sneed. She married William Fredrick "Dean" Lambert, and after his death in 1949, she married Pete Cecil Cannon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Earlsboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one brother, two half-brothers, two sisters, and two half-sisters.

Survivors include daughter Gloria Pettey, Seminole; brother Clarence Sneed, Horatio, Ark.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Little Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Chester Siler

Former Tecumseh resident Chester Siler, 79, Rohnert Park, Calif., died Friday in California.

He was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Kentucky to Thomas and Mary (Rose) Siler. He moved to Oklahoma City after serving in the U.S. Army four years and to Tecumseh in 1948.

He operated Siler's Garage and Wrecker Service until moving to Moore in 1974. He moved to Morning View, Ky., in 1981 and to California five months ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Forester Siler.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Sue Siler, Rohnert Park, Calif.; sisters Marie Hilton, Morning View, Ken., and Christine Turner, Louisville, Ken.; three grandchildren, Karen Siler, Shiela Belria and Donnie Siler; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Tecumseh Cemetery, with the Rev. Lonnie Hurst officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Henry Delton Perrin

Former Tecumseh resident Henry Delton Perrin, 69, Waukomis, died Wednesday.

He was born Nov. 14, 1928, to Alva and Lela Cheek Perrin in Battiest. He married Mabel P. Evans in Meno, Ark., on Nov. 1, 1947.

He moved to Lakeview, Ore., to work as a lumberjack, then to Tecumseh to work for United Builders and as a union hall operator until retirement. He moved to Waukomis two years ago. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Tecumseh Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; son and daughter-in-law Dale and Diane Perrin, Durant; daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Bob Dunlap, Drummond; six grandchildren, Joshua Perrin, Ardmore; Blake Large and Melanie Stanley, both of Durant; Michael Trammell, Lincoln, Neb.; and Randal and Robert Dunlap, both of Waukomis; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Passmore, Broken Bow, and Oleta Cunningham, Wright City.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel, Enid.

Dorothy Elese Tolson Dyke

Dorothy Elese Tolson Dyke, 84, died Tuesday in Meeker.

She was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Bethesda, Md., to

Edward Lawrence and Ada May Tolson. She grew up in Bethesda where she graduated from McKinley Tech High School, Washington, D.C., in 1932.

She worked for the Farm Credit Administration in Washington and later with the Federal Aviation Administration in Kansas City. On Nov. 17, 1938, she married Irvin Sawyer Dyke in Bethesda.

She moved to Kansas City in 1942, to Raymore, Mo., in 1983, and to Meeker in 1996. She was a member of Countryside Christian Church, Mission, Kan., and to Civ-air-ettes, a Federal Aviation Administration women's group.

Survivors include one son, Terry L. Dyke, Shawnee; three daughters, Eleanor C. Mowery, Oklahoma City; Nancy K. Reitz, North Platte, Neb.; and Elizabeth A. Randall of Lawrence, Kan.; eight grandchildren; brother-in-law Gordon Dyke, Mission, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1985.

At her request, her body was donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Countryside Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Countryside Christian Church or the Foxwood Springs Fellowship of John.

Clyde M. Seran

Clyde M. "Buck" Seran, 90, of Bosque Farms, N.M., died Jan. 21, 1999, from pneumonia following a short hospital stay. He had been a resident of an Albuquerque rehabilitation and nursing center.

Clyde M. "Buck" Seran was born at Paden in 1908, the fourth of five children born to James "Jimmie" Haley Duren and Claude M. "C.M." Seran. He was graduated from Okemah High School.

He married Juanita Blain of Shawnee at Tishomingo in 1939 and they built a home southwest of Castle where they farmed and ranched for several years. In the late 1920s and 1930s he worked for his father in general stores in Castle and Okemah and in farming. He worked for the Okfuskee County Sheriff's office during Bennie Hill's tenure.

During or shortly after World War II, he joined his sister, Gladys Howard; Frank Howard; brother, Dane A. Seran, and others in oil well drilling contractor partnerships. He and his wife moved from the farm to Okemah, then moved to Albuquerque in 1954, and later to Bosque Farms.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Pearl Seran; three older sisters, Amanda Waite, Gladys Howard, Ella Smith, and one brother, Dane.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita; six nieces, two nephews and many other relatives.

Memorial service was held Jan. 25 and burial was at Terrace Grove Cemetery, Belen, N.M. Mrs. Seran may be contacted at 12101 Lomas NE, Albuquerque NM 87112.

Francis Etheredge

Francis Etheredge of Shawnee died Wednesday at a local nursing home at the age of 94.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Randy Mathis will officiate.

She was born Feb. 4, 1905, in Bellville, Ala., to Mannie Joseph Miniard and Alamay (Shaw) Miniard. She married Clarence Peabody in Clarendon, Texas, on July 11, 1925, and was a hospital worker. She had lived in Shawnee since the early 1980s.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Clarence Peabody and Ray Etheredge; brothers, Lawrence Miniard, Marshall Miniard, Joe Miniard; sisters, Atrie May, Lee (Miniard), and children, Ivo Peabody, Ruby Cannon, Leola Cannon, Nelda Baskin, David Peabody and C.M. Peabody.

Surviving include two daughters, Frances Harper, Shawnee; and Leona Crouch Granberry, Texas; one son, Garland Peabody, Granberry, Texas; two sisters, Clydie Barham, and Ivy Yates; sister-in-law, Bobbye Streightoff; Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends.

Dayther Mae Miller

Asher resident Dayther Mae "Little Granny" Miller died Wednesday. She was 109.

She was born July 16, 1889, in Fulton, Ky. to Ida and Arnold Stroud. She married J.M. Miller at Nida, Okla., in 1907 and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four daughters, and two sons.

Surviving include a daughter, Gladys Smith, Asher; 38 grandchildren, 119 great-grandchildren, 182 great-great grandchildren and 17 great-great-great grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pickard Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Graves officiating. Burial will be a Tecumseh Cemetery.

Jaunita Maud Melson

Jaunita Maud Melson, 81, was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Chandler and died Feb. 17, 1999, in Chandler.

She was the daughter of Earl O. and Lillie Maud (Simpson) Melson. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church, Chandler. She was a legal secretary working for P.D. and Dan Erwin, attorneys-at-law, for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include two brothers, Dr. Jack Melson, Stroud, and Warren Melson, Chandler, and many other relatives and friends.

Servcies will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Church of the Nazarene, Chandler, with Keith Cole officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.
