C.W. Joe Stewart

C.W. Joe Stewart of Midwest City, father of Brian Mitchell of Shawnee, died Monday at the age of 59.

He was born April 26, 1939, in Atoka, served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Tinker Air Force Base.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Brenda Kay Stewart, Midwest City; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Eichler, Midwest City; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Tammy Stewart, Moore; Michael and Julie Stewart, Joey and Kathy Stewart, all of San Antonio, Texas; Jimmy Stewart, Oklahoma City; Brian and Theresa Mitchell, Shawnee; mother and stepfather, Bessie and Jess Smith, Calvin; brothers, Dale Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Gary Smith, Ricky Smith, all of Calvin; sister, Sandra Bull, Choctaw, 16 grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at John Ireland Funeral Chapel, Moore, with the Rev. Kenneth Stafford officiating. Burial will be at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery at Bethel.

Jacquelee Dawson Lusk

Moore resident Jacquelee Dawson Lusk, 68, died Saturday at a Midwest City hospital.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at John Ireland Funeral Home, Moore.

She was born in St. Louis on March 1, 1930, to W.E. and Iva Dawson and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1947. She married Donald Lusk on March 15, 1954.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Rachael Lusk, Moore; daughter, Donette Ashford, Moore; sisters, Wanda Burton, Shawnee; Rosemary Briggs of Ripley; brother-in-law, D.A. Briggs of Ripley; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Rosie Dawson, Shawnee, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Lusk; infant son, Jay Bryan, her parents and one brother, Bill.

Virginia Boerstler

Bristow homemaker Virginia Boerstler died Monday at her home. She was 84.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bristow Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeff Francis officiating, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

The body may be viewed today at Hutchins Maple Funeral Home in Bristow.

Mrs. Boerstler was born July 22, 1913, in Okmulgee, to Randolph Earle and Charlotte (Marshall) Wright. She graduated from Okmulgee High School and attended William Woods College. She married Bill Boerstler on June 20, 1936, in Okmulgee.

She had been a resident of Bristow since 1946, moving from Okmulgee. She was a member of the Okmulgee Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church until 1949, when she joined the Bristow Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Boerstler of the Bristow home; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jack Snoddy of Bethany; two brothers, Earle Wright of Houston, Texas, Marshall Wright of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren, Ted and Jennifer Snoddy of Bethany.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Mary C. Burns

Mary C. Burns, 94, Tecumseh, died Saturday in Tecumseh.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Tecumseh Cemetery.

She was born March 25, 1904, in Mississippi to William K. and Nora (Clore) Martin. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1922, and she married Hermon L. Burns on Jan. 27, 1924. She was a homemaker who moved to Bell Gardens, Calif., in 1937, returning to Tecumseh in 1985. She was a member of the Tecumseh Alumni Association and the First Presbyterian Church, Tecumseh.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 11, 1991, and daughter, Billie Ann Burns, in 1927.

She is survived by daughter, Mary L. Byrne, California; son, Herman G. Burns, Tecumseh; grandchildren, Jeri and Kelly Byrne, California, and Lucille (Burns) Smith, Lawton; and two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Brent Smith, Lawton.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Mary Howard

Mary "Margaret" Howard died Friday in Cushing. She was 78.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parkland Church of the First Born, Parkland, with Bill Herring officiating. Burial will follow in Parkland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Howard was born on Dec. 15, 1919, near Sparks to Charles Cleveland and Dollie (Henbray) Simon. She married Woodrow Wilson "W. D." Howard on Jan. 12, 1939, in Chandler.

Howard had lived in Lincoln County most of her life and was a member of the Parkland Church of the First Born. She worked at Oklahoma State University and the Chandler Baseball Camp.

Survivors include two sons, Eldon and Eugene Howard, both of Parkland; three daughters, Phyllis Hutchinson, Cushing, Colleen Dotson, Stroud, and Marilyn Kerntke, Stillwater; brother, Charles "Cowboy" Simon, Jones; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in 1969; a son; and three sisters.

Madine Ethel Heister

Seminole resident Madine Ethel (Poling) Heister died Friday in Seminole. She was 80.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Heister was born in Coyle to George E. and Bertha Lou (Longan) Poling. She married Ray G. Heister on May 2, 1936, in Chandler.

Heister was a homemaker and worked with the Democratic Women.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Norma Sue Heister, De Soto, Texas; sister, Maxine Johnston, Guthrie; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Leonard Ledbetter, Seminole; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray G. Heister on April 9, 1972; son, Ray Dean Heister on Dec. 10, 1996; and a brother.

Zoe Yvonne Bledsoe Sumpter

Longtime Shawnee resident Zoe Yvonne Bledsoe Sumpter died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born May 7, 1920, in Asher, the daughter of J.W. "Bill" and Effie Stark Bledsoe. She married her high school sweetheart, Earl Sumpter, in Sulphur on July 20, 1937.

She attended East Central University in Ada; while a student she received an offer of a movie contract but turned it down.

Ms. Sumpter was a homemaker and a member of Central Church of Christ in Shawnee.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Ardith Sumpter, Ada; daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett Odeane and Rudy Berger, Woodland Hills, Calif.; grandchildren, Shae Lyn Lawler, Boca Raton, Fla.; Angela Lawhon, Dallas, Texas; Wade Sumpter Jr., Ada; Karen Donadio, Westlake, Calif.; Richard Berger, Santa Cruz, Calif., five great-grandchildren and many other relatives. She also is survived by Earl Sumpter, her first husband and her good friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Billy Earl, and one sister.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Central Church of Christ with Don Sullivan and Dwyane Dennis officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Barbara J. Little Charley Whittaker

Barbara J. "Bobby" Little Charley Whittaker of Shawnee died Wednesday at the age of 49.

Wake will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hart Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Ellis Gregg officiating. Burial will be the Tiger Family Cemetery.

She was born April 27, 1949, in Norman to Howard Little Charley and Geraldine (Panther) Tiger. She was reared at Little Axe and attended school at Brendle, Little Axe, and Bethel. She married Bill Whittaker on Aug. 22, 1976, in Pink.

She was a nurses' aide and had lived in Shawnee for many years. She was a member of Hart Full Gospel Church and was past president of Pleasant Grove School PTO.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Wesley Little Charley, Steven Tiger, and one sister, Linda Sue Hurst.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Whittaker, of the home; sons, Joshua Whittaker, of the home; Lawrence Little Creek, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sherry Little Creek, Tecumseh; daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Jeff Combs, Teresa and Steve Fife, Melissa Little Creek, all of Shawnee; Dominique Whittaker, Jamie Whittaker, both of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Kay (Tiger) and Adrian Martinez, Oklahoma City; Patsy Gonzales, Texas; Phyllis (Tiger) and Steve Johnson, Martha (Tiger) and Greg Watson, Pamela Tiger, all of Shawnee; Rosada Watson, Moore; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Diane Tiger, Darryl and Ronni Tiger, all of Shawnee; Mike Tiger, Timothy Tiger, both of Oklahoma City; Anthony Tiger, Bucky Little Charley, both of Norman, nine grandchildren and many other relatives.

Marvin Gaye Starnes

Shawnee resident Marvin Gaye Starnes died Monday at a local hospital. He was 24.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church in Wewoka with the Rev. L.R. Drinkwater officiating. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Stout Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Starnes was born Oct. 12, 1973, in Wewoka, to Don Williams Sr. and Theresa Ann Starnes. He graduated from Wewoka High School and attended DeVry Business School.

He lived in Wewoka most of his life, moving later to Shawnee.

Survivors include his mother, Theresa Ann Starnes of Wewoka; his father, Don Williams Sr. of Oklahoma City; six sisters, Sophia Starnes of Wewoka, Mamie Williams of Los Angeles, Calif., Lakeza, Keasha, Tiffany and Anastasia Williams, all of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Andrall Williams of Shawnee, Ronald Williams of Oklahoma City; his grandmother, Mattie O. Starnes of Shawnee; his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Belton Blanton of Sasakwa; nine aunts; 11 uncles and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Genry Starnes Sr.; a grandmother, Mammie Williams; three uncles, one aunt and a brother, Don Williams Jr.
