T.J. Loafman

Former Prague resident T.J. Loafman, 76, died Wednesday in Livingston, Texas.

He was born on May 22, 1922, in Prague to Thomas Jasper and Cora Etna (Morton) Loafman. He graduated from Prague High School and Oklahoma Baptist University and received a master's degree in education from Northwestern State University.

He married Jackie Jeannette Loafman on Sept. 11, 1942. He was a public school teacher and coach for more than 45 years in Wellston, Woodward, Ardmore, Livingston, Texas, and other cities. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Livingston, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Debbie Loafman, Bartlesville, and Douglas and Cindy Loafman, Livingston, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Ann and Bob Spooner, Dahlonega, Texas, and Janet Kay Tope, Livingston, Texas; three sisters, Eunice DeWebber, Edmond; Bernice Callan, Bartlesville; and Nelda Mays, Prague; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, and a daughter, Sue Lynn Loafman, on March 10, 1957.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Central Baptist Church, Livingston, Texas, with Dr. Bill Skaar officiating.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Prague Cemetery, with the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Prague.

Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund, Livingston, Texas.

Walter C. Franks

Walter C. Franks, 91, Wewoka, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.

He was born in July, 1906, near Sadler, Texas, to John David and Magdelena Harris Franks. He married Marion Elizabeth Brock on Oct. 23, 1931, in Okmulgee. He worked for Cities Service Oil Refinery as stills foreman for 35 years. He was a member of Highway Baptist Church, Seminole.

He was preceded in death by his wife, on Feb. 4, 1988.

He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Carl Stevens, Ponca City, and Aileen and Jimmie Widener, Seminole; five nephews, Frank Franks, Mt. Joliet, Tenn.; Dean Franks, Tulsa; D.A. Franks and Melvin Franks Jr., both of Hennessey; and Billy M. Williams, Monroe, Wis.; and four nieces, Donna Glenn, Cleveland; Carlita Robertson, Tulsa; Betty Sue Carpenter, Seminole; and Barbara King, Salem, Ore.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole, with the Rev. Cal Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery, Seminole.

Goldie E. Pickle

Goldie E. Pickle, 89, Earlsboro, died Thursday in Broken Arrow.

She was born April 1, 1909, in Piersall, Texas, to Issac W. Horne and Eudocia Turney. She married Jack Pickle in June, 1940, in Seminole. She was a homemaker and a member of Ideal St. Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1988, and two sons, Bobby Chaffin and Don Chaffin.

She is survived by three sons, James Chaffin, Enid; Jack Pickle, Broken Arrow; and John Pickle, Edmond; 15 grandchldren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, with Junior Mize officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery, Seminole.

Nettie Gladys Martin

Nettie Gladys Martin died Friday in Edmond at the age of 90.

She was born in Longview, Texas, on Nov. 7, 1907, the daughter of Joe Bradford and Ella Roxanne (Poge) Agnew.

She had lived in the Chandler area since the early 1940s, moving from Piedmont. She attended the Baptist church.

She married Harvey O. Martin in Piedmont on Sept. 15, 1926, and they had two sons.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Joann Martin, Arcadia; four grandchildren, Debra Smith, Priscilla Martin, Brent Martin, Carrie Rowe, three great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one son, Jerry Don Martin, three brothers and four sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Chapel, Chandler, with the Rev. Russell Houser officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Chandler.

Marie Logan

Area pioneer Marie Logan of Shawnee died Thursday in a local hospital. She was 99.

She was born Jan. 19, 1899, in a dugout west of Shawnee, the daughter of Archie and Elizabeth (La Count) Canada. She married Edward L. Logan on Feb. 8, 1920, northwest of Shawnee and they were farmers.

Mrs. Logan was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Homebuilders Sunday school class, United Methodist Women, Shawnee chapter 43 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Broken Needle Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Vivian Logan, of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Herman Gentry; sister-in-law, Dorothy Canada, and many other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1979; her parents; one daughter, Ellen Jean Logan, three brothers and four sisters.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rusty Williams and the Rev. Russell Currie will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 E. Independence, Shawnee OK 74804.

Levoy Chesley Boatwright

Levoy Chesley Boatwright, 79, of Chickasha died Sunday in Norman.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Ninnekah First Baptist Church and graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Wanette Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home of Chickasha.

Boatwright was born Sept. 2, 1918, at Lexington, the son of Ira Chesley and Alta Mona (Caskey) Boatwright. He married Anna Mae Laurent on May 8, 1937, at Wanette and she preceded him in death in 1964.

Boatwright served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was wounded at Okinawa April 2, 1945. After returning to battle, he was wounded again on June 4, 1945. He served until Jan. 1, 1946.

He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge 457 and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He lived in the Alex area from 1946 to 1952 and worked in the oil fields and farmed.

He lived in the Ninnekah area and farmed from 1952 to 1957. He lived in Chickasha from 1957 to 1970 when he returned to Ninnekah. He was a farmer and truck driver and retired from H.J. Jeffries Trucking Co. in 1980.

He married Kathryn Charlson Lindsay on Oct. 15, 1965, at Holy City near Lawton and she preceded him in death in 1997.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Barbara Jean Ferguson, and brother, Vernon Boatwright.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Berry, Oklahoma City; Mona Statum, Starks, La.; Norma Townsend, Amber; four brothers, Lloyd Boatwright, Alex; Glennis Boatwright, Duncan; Guy Boatwright, Oklahoma City; Dale Boatwright, Chickasha; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Eva Lorene Ryan

Eva Lorene Denney Ryan died Sunday in a Holdenville nursing home. She was 72.

She was born to Sarah Ethel Gwin Denney and James Thomas Denney on Oct. 8, 1925, in Pottawatomie County. She was reared in the Shawnee and Prague area and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1945.

She married Raymond Ryan on May 28, 1950, in Fort Worth, Texas. They had lived in Wewoka since 1962.

She received her degree as a licensed practical nurse from Byng School of Practical Nursing and was employed at Holdenville General Hospital for many years.

She was active with Seminole County Extension Homemakers Club and Senior Citizens Center at Seminole. She was a member of Bowlegs Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond, of the home; her children, Raymond Ryan, Wewoka; Randy and Connie Ryan, Ada; Gary and Jean Ryan, Bowlegs; Shirley and Randy Orr, Holdenville; sisters, Florence Huckabee and Faye Renegar, both of Shawnee; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, H.L. and June Franklin, Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka with Bob Thornbrough and Herb Prater officiating. Burial will be at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Russell Ticer

Longtime area resident Russell Ticer died Monday at his Shawnee home. He was 76.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Ticer was born June 26, 1921, in Wetumka, where he was raised and attended school. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Billie Moore on Jan. 6, 1945, in Oklahoma City.

Ticer had lived in Shawnee for 46 years and retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1979. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Russell Ticer Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Billie Ticer, of the home; three sons, Larry Ticer, Oklahoma City; Gary Ticer, Garland, Texas; Mark Ticer, Shawnee; three grandsons, one brother and three sisters.
