Arthur Edward Schlegel
Arthur Edward Schlegel, 83, of Midwest
City, Oklahoma, died Monday, December 9, 2002
in Norman, Oklahoma. A Wake Service will be
held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at
St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church in
Norman, Oklahoma with Father Thomas Boyer
officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at St. Mark The
Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Patrick McCool and Father
John Metzinger, celebrants. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Schlegel was born July 23, 1919 in Queens, New York.
He enjoyed a long career with the U.S. Military Service. Mr.
Schlegel enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1937 serving as a parachutist
until 1945. He then served in the U.S. Reserve until 1949. In 1949,
Mr. Schlegel reenlisted with the U.S. Air Force from which he retired
in 1961, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He also received a
Good Conduct Medal. He married Isabelle I. Weynand on June 30,
1951 in San Antonio, Texas. He moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma
in 1958 from England. After his retirement from the U.S. Air Force,
Mr. Schlegel worked in Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base until
1973. Mr. Schlegel was a very devoted husband.
Mr. Schlegel’s survivors include his wife, Isabelle of the
home; son, Robert Schlegel and wife, Betina of Norman, OK; and
two grandchildren, Danielle and Matthew Schlegel of Norman, OK.

Areta Shepherd
Areta Shepherd, age 70, of Lubbock, Texas passed away
Friday, December 6, 2002 at her residence in Lubbock. Funeral
Services will be conducted at 10:00a.m., Tuesday, December 10,
2002 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman,
Oklahoma. Burial will be conducted at 3:00p.m., Tuesday, December
10, 2002 at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Haywood, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman.
Mrs. Shepherd was born January 1, 1932 in Celestine,
Oklahoma. She married Clyde Shepherd August 11, 1947 in
Arkansas. She worked in retail sales for Casual Corner for 18 years.
She moved to Lubbock from Norman, Oklahoma in 1998.
Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband Clyde
Shepherd on July 25, 1999. She is survived by a son Ronald
Shepherd of Seward, Nebraska; daughter, Donna Bunetto of
Lubbock; Texas; two brothers, Ed Shepherd of Tulsa, Oklahoma and
Dub Freer of Arkansas; four sisters, Wilma Arnold of Norman,
Oklahoma, Elzora Lester of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Reva
Pingleton of McAlester, Oklahoma and Lorene Johnson of Norman,
Oklahoma; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of Lubbock,
1102 Slide Road, Suite 3, Lubbock, Texas 79416.

Mary Elizabeth Tinling
Mary Elizabeth Tinling, 85, of Norman died Saturday in Norman. A
Mass of Christian Memorial will begin at 10:00 a. m. Thursday at St.
Thomas More University Parish with Rev. Bill H. Pruett as celebrant.
Burial will be held later at Annapolis Cemetery, in Almapolis,
Maryland. Service are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Tinling was born April 1, 1917, in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania, to Charles Fredrick Wood and Georgie May Richard.
She graduated from Williamsport High School and attended Notre
Dame Business School in Washington D.C., where after graduation
she worked on the New Deal in the U.S. Agriculture Department.
While in Washington D.C. she dated and married James Edwin
Tinling (USNA '38) and followed him around the country and the
world as a Navy wife, living in San Diego, California,
Bremerton, Washington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bainbridge,
Maryland, Clearfield, Utah, Arlington, Virginia, Charleston, South
Carolina, London, England, Agana, Guam, and Sunnyvale, California
where she worked for NASA and then the Trammel Crow Company
as an administrative assistant. She then settled in Norman with her
daughter, Mary and her son-in-law Stephen W. Bonner after her
husband, Jim's death in 1984.
Mrs. Tinling was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband, and sisters, Evelyn and Esther, and her son, Charles Edward
Tinling. Survivors include six children, Michael Wood Tinling of
Norman, Judith Elizabeth Girard and her husband, Marston of Citrus
Heights, California, James Richard Tinling and his wife, Ginny of
Hillsboro, Oregon, Steven Paul Tinling and his wife, Gini of Davis,
California, Mary S. Bonner and her husband, Stephen of Norman, and
Walter William Tinling and his wife, Elizabeth of Montgomery
Village, Maryland; thirteen grandchildren, Jean Elizabeth Conner,
Catherine Pazdel, Michael James Bonner, Matthew Ray Bonner,
Andy Tinling, Molly Tinling, Alyssa Tinling, Emily Tinling, Melissa
Tinling, Heather Tinling, and Colleen Tinling, Brian Rinck and Tony
Rinck; and eight great grandchildren, Ryan Ward, Jason Ward, Ethan
Pazdel, Cassandra Pazdel, Evan Pazdel, Libby Rinck and Addison
Rinck, and Asa Bonner.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes
Association at P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 74720.

Mary Dodd Wetmore
Mary Dodd Wetmore, 44, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Tuesday, December 31, 2002 in Norman, Oklahoma. Memorial
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 4, 2003 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman, Oklahoma with
Reverend Susan Beam officiating. Interment will be at 9:00 A.M.,
Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman,
Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral
Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Wetmore. was born November 17, 1958 in Seminole,
Oklahoma, to Jimmie A. and Gloria Christine Williams Dodd. She
graduated from high school in Norman, Oklahoma. She attended the
Christian Church of Newcastle, Oklahoma. Mary enjoyed a number
of hobbies including crafts, cooking and antiques. Her main focus in
life was her children.
Mrs. Wetmore was preceded in death by her former husband,
Tim Wetmore; her father, Jimmie Dodd; a brother, Mark Dodd; and
grandparents, Coy and Mary Williams and Albert and Lou Dodd.
Survivors include her son, Jordan Wetmore; daughter, Molly
Wetmore, both of the home; her mother, Christine Steward and
stepfather, Odel Steward of Norman, OK; her sister, Judi Price of
Norman, OK; her brother, Jim Dodd of Wagner,

Thomas J. Williams Jr.
Thomas J. Williams Jr., 80, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Wednesday, December 25, 2002, in Norman, Oklahoma. Graveside
Services will be held at 10:00, Saturday, December 28, 2002 at
Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Mr. Wayne Weese officiating.
Family members will serve as bearers. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Williams was born April 29, 1922 in Lexington,
Oklahoma, to Thomas Jefferson and Linnie Mae Arnold Williams.
He grew up in Lexington and graduated from high school there. He
worked as an electrician and in procurement for the Federal Aviation
Administration for fifteen years retiring in 1983. Mr. Williams
moved to Norman, Oklahoma from Lexington in 1942. He married
Dorothy E. Rutherford on June 13, 1949 in Norman, Oklahoma. Mr.
Williams was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and
served in the U.S. Army and Air Force. He was a member of the
Norman Masonic Lodge and, the Guthrie Consistory and India
Temple. He was also a member of the University Christian Church.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, one
brother and sister. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of the home;
one son, Jeff Williams and wife, Lora of Norman, OK; one daughter,
Clara Smart and husband, John of Norman, OK; two sisters, Jeannie
Butler and husband, Lee of Scottsdale, AZ and Phyllis Weese and
husband, Wayne of Tulsa, OK; one brother-in-law, Rudolph Wimmer
of Norman, OK; and five grandchildren, Judd Parker, Matt Parker,
Jarrod Williams, Jason Williams, and Samantha Danner and husband,
Shane.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital
at 815 Market St., Galveston, TX 77550-2725 or a charity of your
choice.
