Bernice Hirn

Longtime Davenport resident Bernice Beatrice Hirn, 101, died Tuesday in Owasso.

She was born July 15, 1897, in Bluffton, Ind., the daughter of William and Ida J. (Huss) Bricker. She married George F. Hirn in Indiana on July 3, 1917, and they moved to Oklahoma. She had lived in Davenport since the early 1950s. She was Baptist and had been a caregiver for many years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, George Hirn, in 1964, a son and her parents.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Evelyn J. Hirn, Tulsa; two grandsons, Joe Hirn, Bedford, Texas; Frank Hirn, Seminole; two great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.C. Farrand officiating. Private burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Dorothy M. Vogler

Graveside service was held Aug. 29 at Resthaven Memorial Park for Dorothy M. Vogler who died May 28 in Shawnee.

She was born Jan. 29, 1915, in Holdenville to Thomas Acre and Frances May (Tallant) Milstead. The family moved from Stillwater to Shawnee in 1923 and she attended Shawnee Schools. She graduated from Shawnee High School and Oklahoma Baptist University and taught at Jefferson Elementary School for 26 years.

She married Vernie Arthur Vogler on Nov. 21, 1932, at Chandler and he preceded her in death. She was a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Oklahoma Education Association and Oklahoma Retired Educators' Association.

Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Royal C. and John Bradford Milstead.

Surviving are her brother, Avery Milstead; two sons, Dr. Thomas A. Vogler, Santa Cruz, Calif.; Donald J. Vogler, Portland, Ore.; daughter-in-law, Mary-Kay Gamel, Santa Cruz; grandsons, Matthew Lawrence Vogler, Eugene, Ore.; Thomas Henry Vogler, Chicago, Ill.; Jeremy Carl Vogler, Tokyo, Japan; Thaddeus Milstead Vogler, San Francisco, Calif., and special friend, Barbara Hembree of Shawnee.

Leland Glynn Chandler

Lifelong Wellston area resident Leland Glynn "Pappy" Chandler died Wednesday in Chandler at the age of 83.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Wellston with the Rev. Kay Shock officiating. Burial will be at Wellston Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Chandler was born June 26, 1914, in Chandler, to Guy F. and Hazel (Crawford) Chandler. He married Ruth Graham on March 14, 1936, in Stillwater.

He was employed as a butcher and grocer in the Wellston and McLoud areas. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellston and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Chandler of the home; a son, Don Chandler of Newport, Tenn.; a daughter, Joy Robertson of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Carl Chandler of Norman, Earl Chandler of Denver, Colo., John Chandler of Shawnee; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons and three brothers.

George Rogers

George Rogers, 91, McLoud died Wednesday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with Michael Workman officiating, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Rogers was born Aug. 31, 1906, in Belen, N.M., to Herschel and Josie Rogers. He was reared and attended school in Wewoka. He married Genova Showalter on Dec. 17, 1939, in Wewoka.

He was employed as an oil field driller and had lived in Shawnee for several years.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Madlyn Cope of Tulsa; a brother-in-law and spouse, Robert and Patricia Showalter of McLoud; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, on Oct. 19, 1995.

Carol A. Niekraszewicz

Tecumseh resident Carol A. Niekraszewicz died Wednesday in Tecumseh at the age of 57.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Floral arrangements may be delivered to the funeral home.

Mrs. Niekraszewicz was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., to Harry and Lillian (Fritch) Slade. She was reared in Indiana and moved to Tecumseh in 1974.

She worked at the physical plant at the University of Oklahoma for 10 years, then worked at Oklahoma Baptist University's physical plant for 12 years.

Survivors include her husband, Alex Niekraszewicz of the home; a daughter, Pam Zolotko of Vancouver, Wash.; two sons, Tony and Leroy Dewar, both of Indiana; her stepchildren, Dianna Hamerlick and Danny Niekraszewicz, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and several grandchildren.

Ermal Dawson

Retired Oklahoma school teacher Ermal Dawson, Tecumseh, died Thursday at the age of 91.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Tecumseh with Will Bentley and Bob Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

Memorials may be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

She was born Dec. 13, 1906, in Mt. Pleasant, Ark., to Charley Thomas and Lydia Jane (Suttle) Dawson. She graduated from Temple High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Central State Teacher's College. She earned her master's degree in education from the University of Oklahoma.

She came to Oklahoma in 1918 and had resided in Tecumseh since 1973. She taught school in Temple, Okla., for 28 years and then in Hobbs, N.M., for 18 years. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women; the P.E.O. Chapter W and Tecumseh Sororis Study Club.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Elbert and Virginia Dawson of Purcell; her nieces and nephews, Judy and Don Rousey of Tecumseh, Charles and Lynda Dawson of Purcell, Mary Dawson of Oklahoma City, Howard Dawson of Mobile, Ala.; a great-niece, Mary Branson of Tecumseh; two great-nephews, Brian Rousey of Norman, Clay Dawson of Purcell.

Freda Marie Hamby

Former Dale teacher Freda Marie Hamby of Oklahoma City died Thursday at the age of 82.

She was born Jan. 13, 1916, in St. Louis, the daughter of Emanuel and Eura Hamby. She grew up on a farm in Shawnee and graduated from Dale High School in 1933. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Oklahoma Baptist University and her master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

She taught elementary school at Dale, Creston Hills, Crooked Oak, and in Naples, Italy. She retired from Edgemere Elementary in 1979 and traveled extensively.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hahn-Cook Street and Draper Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorials may be made to the Freda M. Hamby Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Klaus Wayne Kinslow

Cromwell resident Klaus Wayne Kinslow died Wednesday in Seminole at the age of 61.

He was born March 12, 1937, in Seminole County, the son of Guy Monroe and Donnie Leon (Lamm) Kinslow. He had worked in civil service for Cessna and Boeing and served in the National Guard. He lived in Salina, Kan., before moving to Seminole in 1983. He was Baptist.

Preceding him in death were his father, Guy Monroe Kinslow; sister, Carol Harris, and great-niece, Tia Dawn Ingraham.

Surviving are his sons, Michael Kinslow, Daryl Kinslow, both of Wichita, Kan.; Robert Kinslow, Salina, Kan.; his mother, Donnie Kinslow, of the home in Cromwell; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Sandra Kinslow, Cromwell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Dennis Yeubanks, Cromwell; Ardith and Cliff Dillard, Wichita, Kan.; Hughlene and Curt Gillespie, Chase, Kan.; granddaughter, Cheyenne Kinslow, and many other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Okemah, with the Rev. Albert Collier and the Rev. Dennis Yeubanks officiating. Burial will follow in Little Cemetery.

Lula Jane Grossman

Lula Jane "Lou" (Coleman) Grossman died Thursday in Shawnee at the age of 77.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Holiness Church in Prague. The Rev. Aaron Brock and the Rev. Tommy Eastep will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Paden under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

Lula Jane Coleman was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Harrison, Ark., to Schuler and Martha Elizabeth (Cowan) Coleman. She had been a resident of Paden since 1968. She worked as a nurse for 34 years, at Prague Hospital and as a private nurse. She also was former owner and operator of Sooner Cafe in Prague.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Grossman, in 1977; her parents, five brothers, and one stepson, Jerry Dawson.

Survivors include her son, Rodney C. Grossman, Slaughterville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Grossman, Paden; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Tommy Eastep, Amber; stepson, Jeff Dawson, Eufaula; brother, Coy Coleman, Okay, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
