Oburn Milford Cochran

Oburn Milford Cochran, 83, McLoud, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Services will be held 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, McLoud, with the Rev. Dan Weaver officiating, assisted by Bill Derrick and the Rev. Timothy Lucas. Burial will be in Jamison Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

He was born Jan. 13, 1916, on a homestead northeast of McLoud to Milford H. and Lula Reynolds Cochran. He graduated from Union Graded High School in 1934. He served as a medic in World War II with the 90th Division, Patton's 3rd Army and landed on Omaha Beach two days after D-Day.

He married Myrtle Beeson on July 25, 1946, in Oklahoma City and he retired from federal civil service at Tinker Air Force Base after 32 years. He was a member of the McLoud Masonic Lodge No. 26 and the First Baptist Church, McLoud. He had served as a deacon for both the Mammoth Baptist Church and Hillside Baptist Church (where he was a charter member) and for two terms as a member of the McLoud town council.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Danny Price, McLoud, Denise and Harold Anderson, Harrah, Deanna and Jeff Myers, Tulsa, and Dedria and Shannon Hancock, McLoud; seven grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Shawn and Andy Miller, Ft. Smith, Ark., Dennis and Angela Scarberry, Belle Plaine, Kan., Dana and David Taylor, Shawnee, Dawn Price, McLoud, Alex Myers, Tulsa, and Kristin and Mason Hancock, McLoud; three great-grandchildren, Lacey Scarberry, Deigh Ann Taylor and Matthew Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Conrad and Bonnie Cochran, Oklahoma City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Stieber, Harrah, Fern and Claud Grissom, Miami, Okla., Almeda and Sam Stout, Oklahoma City, and Darrell Grissom, Pawhuska; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Cochran and sister, Maxine Grissom.

Bill Wayne Bunch

Bill Wayne Bunch, 67, Meeker, died Wednesday at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church, Meeker, with the Rev. James Walters and the Rev. Leon Williams officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

He was born March 30, 1932, in Arkoma to Dewitt and Cora Belle (Davenport) Bunch. He attended Spiro High School and Connors State College. He was a heavy equipment operator, a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended the Assembly of God Church. He had lived in the Shawnee area since 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Zera Faye Bunch, Meeker; former wife, Leona Nichols; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Eddie Reed, Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Wayne and Lisa Bunch, Oklahoma City; stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Mike and Sherry Helms, Meeker, and Mark and Gena Helms, Shawnee; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Jamie and Johnny Morphew, Brenda Helms and Deborah and Scott Williams, all of Meeker; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Dewitt and Francis Bunch, South Carolina, Bob and Betty Bunch, Texas, John and Mattie Bunch, Iowa, Ralph and Ellie Bunch, Mississippi, and Jim and Lynda Bunch, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Glen McFarland, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Delbert R. Pockrus

Former Maud resident Delbert R. (Del) Pockrus died April 27 following complications from surgery. He was 77.

He was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Maud. He served during World War II as a bomber pilot.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Ziegler, whom he married in 1944; his brother, Norman L. Pockrus; and sister Charlotte (Sally) Casey.

He worked at General Motors and retired in 1978. He moved to Montana where he lived for 10 years in Swan Valley. In 1990, he married Ann Ford in Helena, Mont. During the next seven years, he worked as a foster grandparent in the public school systems of both Missoula and Helena, Mont.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ivey Pockrus of Dallas, Texas, and John and Carol Pockrus of Reading, Pa.; stepson, J.D. St. Clair of Helena, Mont; four grandchildren, Neva, Kara, Jacob, and Aubrey; his nieces, Shirley Walck of Tecumseh and Gail Fry of Perry; and nephew, Buddy Osborne of Deer Park, Texas.

Services will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the Neighborhood Assembly of God Church in Helena, Mont. with Pastor Tom Banks officiating. Cremation and a private family interment has already taken place. Hagler-Anderson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Alta Jewell (Fields) Kays

Alta Jewell (Fields) Kays, 90, Plano, Texas, died Tuesday.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Dye officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

She was born March 29, 1909, in Meeker to Willie and Pearl (Flowers) Fields. She attended Shawnee Schools and Business College. She married John H. Kays on March 17, 1928. She was a homemaker, a member of the Jolly Workers Home Extension Club and the former president, secretary and treasurer of the Home Demonstration County Council of Pottawatomie County. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where she served as clerk for 43 years. She lived on the family homestead in Pottawatomie County's Johnson community for 62 years.

She is survived by her sister, Laveda "Boots" McBride, Shawnee; granddaughter, Connie Genzer, Red Oak, Texas; grandson, Steven Kays, Plano, Texas; daughters-in-law Jean Kays, Shawnee, and Annella Kays, Plano, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Laura Genzer, Red Oak, Texas; and great-grandsons, Terry and Randy Genzer, Red Oak, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sons William "Bill" Kays and Kenneth Kays.

Ruth Ann Lindsey died Thursday in a Tulsa hospital at the age of 82.

A memorial service was held Friday at Highland Cemetery with Olen Edwards officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

She was born March 23, 1916, at Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard J. Timmermeyer and Margaret Burwinkle. She married Bertrum "Bert" Lindsey in 1952 in Albuquerque, N.M., and he preceded her in death in 1972.

She retired from Wrangler after many years and had resided north of Okemah since 1967.

One brother also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two stepchildren, Bert Lindsey of Chesterfield, Mo.; Irene Tyson of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Elizabeth Jones of Rockaway, Ore.; Esther Hunt of Haysville, Kan., six stepgrandchildren and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Leister J. Fife

Mrs. Leister J. Fife died Wednesday at her home in Seminole. She was 87.

She was born in Seminole County on July 11, 1911, to John Johnson and Lizzie Johnson and she was a lifelong resident of the area.

She married Dixon C. Fife and was a homemaker. Mrs. Fife was a member of The Hilltop Presbyterian Church, Wewoka.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1985.

She is survived by her son, Louis Fife, Ardmore; two daughters, Lou Deer and Elsie Rabiee, both of Seminole; brother, Robert Kernell, Bowlegs; sisters, Helen Colbert and Lula Jones, both of Seminole; brother-in-law, Winfred Fife, Maud, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wake will be 6:30 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole, with services at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Hilltop Presbyterian Church, Wewoka. Elder Kelly Tiger, Robert Kernell and Rick Harjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Kernell family cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee.

Darrell Dean Barrett

Stroud resident Darrell Dean Barrett died Wednesday in Oklahoma City at the age of 47.

He was born in Davenport on June 30, 1951, and was the son of Donnie Richards and Wanda Branum. He married Patricia Pendergist and owned and operated a repossession company.

He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter and one brother.

Survivors include his mother, Wanda Branum, Wellston; five sons, Patrick Barrett, Stroud; Christopher Barrett, Grove; Joe, David and Jeff Henninger, all of Stroud; daughter, Stacie Painter, Italy; three brothers, Floyd and Russell Branum, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Billy Branum, Wellston; two sisters, Tracie Lenard, Las Vegas; Connie Knight, Wellston, and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Davenport with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Stroud.

JoRene (Wingo) Sherburne

Former Shawnee resident JoRene (Wingo) Sherburne died Aug. 14 at the age of 59.

She was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Shawnee. She was a liver transplant recipient of four years and won a gold medal in golf at the 1996 Transplant Olympics.

She was a certified professional secretary and a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and Trinity Sunday school class in Oklahoma City. Her civic activities included 1990 chairwoman of the Oklahoma City Orchestra League Inc. Decorator's Showhouse, PEO and Quail Creek Women's 18th Hole Golf Association.

Surviving are her husband, C. Lyle Sherburne, Oklahoma City; her parents, R. Kelly and Roxie M. Wingo, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Kellianne and Jeff Hedger; daughter, Suzanne Kull, all of Pryor; son, J. Chuck Lowrey, Shawnee; stepchildren, Doug Sherburne, Sharon Barnes, both of Oklahoma City; grandsons, Jason and Ryan Hedger, Andy Kull, Chase and Nickolaus Lowrey; two step-grandchildren, Jacob and Joanna Barnes; sister and brother-in-law, Donaleta and Bill Stewart, Douglas, Wyo.; brother and sister-in-law, George and Sunnye Wingo, Moore, and many other relatives, including an uncle and aunt, Harry and Emma Lou Rapp, Meeker.

Services were Monday with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Donor Coalition, Suite 100, 5801 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City OK 73118.

Magdalena Dellavia

Retired area teacher, Magdalena Dellavia, Meeker, died Tuesday at the age of 88.

She was born Oct. 8, 1909, in McLoud to Christopher Fredrick and Abigail Artimissa (Shaw) Kohler. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Meeker, Order of the Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was a retired teacher whose career had covered 40 terms in Wynnewood, Meeker, Prague and Dale.

She is survived by her daughter, two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Private services were held under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Michael Hamm officiated.
