Lillian (Hoffman) Bradford
Lillian Bradford, 92, of Norman, Oklahoma, died in her sleep on the
10th of October 2003, in Norman, Oklahoma. Lillian was born in Appleton,
Wisconsin, August 14, 1911, to William Hoffman and Rose Krell Hoffman. Her
father died when she was four years old and she, her older brother Melvin, and
her mother lived with her mother's father, Henry Krell. Her mother remarried and
had a daughter with her second husband, Doris Korte Menning. Lillian
worked as a secretary for nine years in the law firm of Bradford and Derber in
Appleton, Wisconsin. She married Alfred S. Bradford on the 20th of April,
1939. They were married thirty-four years. Lillian had two children, Mary and
Steve, and she remained at home until they were grown. Then she became active
in a group which raised money to build the Appleton Memorial Hospital in
Wisconsin. She helped organize the "pink ladies," the volunteers who welcomed
visitors to the hospital and did the many necessary chores of running a hospital.
She was elected President of the Wisconsin State Organization of Hospital
Volunteer workers. She also served on the board of directors of the hospital and
of Peabody Manor, an assisted living complex.
She loved the woods and lakes of Wisconsin and she and her husband
took annual fishing trips to northern Wisconsin and Canada. One year she won
a small, local fishing contest for the largest muskellunge taken in the summer at
Big Lake St. Germaine. She loved to play golf and she was a member of
Riverview Country Club in Appleton. Her husband, Alfred, died in 1973. She
continued to be active at the Appleton Memorial Hospital. She was a member of
several clubs and she had many friends. She moved to Norman, Oklahoma in
1997 to be close to her son, Steve, his wife, Pam, and her granddaughters,
Elizabeth and Alexandra. She found joy in seeing them and being with them.
Lillian is survived by her son, Steve and wife, Pam of Norman, OK; her
granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alexandra; her daughter, Mary Coble and
husband, Brownie of San Benito, TX, her grandsons, Brad and David Means,
and her great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Rebekah Means.

Barbara Joan Byers
Barbara Joan Byers, 49, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Sunday,
October 26, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A Vigil service will
held at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Havenbrook
Funeral Home in Norman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00
A.M., Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral Home
Chapel with Reverend Edward Menasco officiating. Interment will
follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Pallbearers
will be her brothers, Pete, Danny, Tommy, Gerard, Stephan and
Richard Palen. Honorary bearers will be Wade, Joe Byers Robb
Marshall. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral
Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Byers was born April 25, 1954 in Glendive, Montana,
to Daniel Charles and Beverly Anne Griffin Palen. She was one of
the eldest of their sixteen children and spent much of her youth
tending to and caring for her younger siblings. She grew up in South
Dakota and Madison, Wisconsin and graduated from Madison High
School in Wisconsin. Later she lived in Dallas, Texas and Ottumwa,
Iowa before moving to Oklahoma City in 1980 and then to Norman
in 1989. Barbara married Gary Byers on April 22, 1989 in Norman,
Oklahoma. Her life revolved around her family, especially her
children. She was raised Catholic and attended St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Norman. Barbara was a loyal and true friend to those she
loved.
Mrs. Byers was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors
include her husband, Gary of the home, two sons, Wade and Joe
Byers; daughter, Shelly Byers, all of the home, stepdaughter, Carly
Byers of Norman, OK; parents-in-law, Charles and Dixie Byers of
Norman, OK; fifteen siblings, Mary Palen of Moore, OK, Martha
Palen of Moore, OK, Pattie Palen Marshall of Houston, TX, Peter J.
Palen of Davenport, IA, Daniel C. Palen, Jr. of Ottumwa, IA, Gail
Palen Griffiths of Moline, IL, Gerard Palen of Oklahoma City, OK,
Thomas A. Palen of Ottumwa, IA, Judith Palen Shepherd of
Ottumwa, IA, Theresa Palen Livingston of Ottumwa, IA, James G.
Palen of Ottumwa, IA, Newell E. Palen of Ottumwa, IA, Nancy
Palen Bishop of Ottumwa, IA, Stephen A. Palen of Ottumwa, IA and
Richard S. Palen of Olathe, KS.; and thirty-seven nieces and
nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Byers Children Trust Fund,
First Fidelity Bank, Brookhaven Office, P.O. Box 32282, Oklahoma
City, OK 73123

Paula Annette Gibson
Paula A. Gibson, 52, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Friday, October
3, 2003 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Gibson was born September 27,
1951 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Lon and June Pauline Best Pearson.
She graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1969. She married James
Gibson on August 23, 1976. Mrs. Gibson received her Bachelor and
Master’s Degrees in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma College of
Nursing. She worked at the O.U. Medical Center as Clinical Manager of
Women’s Services and was honored in 1987 with an Award of Excellence
for her service as director of the oncology unit. She also served as an
adjunct clinical faculty member for the University of Oklahoma College of
Nursing. Mrs. Gibson was a member of a number of professional
organizations including the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society, the
Oklahoma Nurses Association, the Association of Women’s Health and was
a founding member of the O.U. Medical Center Employee’s Council.
Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her father, Lon Pearson,
sister, Dorothy Jean, brother, Lon William and grandparents. Survivors
include her husband, James of the home; daughter, Melissa “Missy”
Hutchison and husband, Nathan of Norman; granddaughter, Madelyn
Hutchinson; mother, June Pearson of Norman, two brothers, Lonny Pearson
and wife, Mary of Norman and Ronald Pearson and wife, Jayne of
Burlington, Kansas, six nieces and six nephews; a host of friends and coworkers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Cavett, 940 NE
13th, Childrens Hospital Oklahoma City, OK 73104.

Bessie M. Hunt
Bessie M. Hunt, 96, formerly of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday,
October 14, 2003, in Edmond,
Oklahoma. Family will receive friends
from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday,
October 16, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral
Home in Norman. Funeral Services will
be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 17, 2003, at Havenbrook
Funeral Home with Reverend Sherman Fitzgerald officiating.
Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman,
Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Matt Smith, Chris Hunt, Bill
Buchanan, Ralph Hunt, Paul Hunt and Ron Hunt. Honorary Bearers
will be Dr. Rod Evans, Russell Garvin, Don Haas, Don Deibler and
Orville Hunt. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral
Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Bessie was born September 1,
1907 in Lone Grove, Oklahoma, to Charles and Maude Buchanan.
She married Herbert L. Hunt on November 16, 1930. Most of her life
was spent in Norman, Oklahoma where she worked for several years
at the University of Oklahoma cafeteria. Bessie received several
certificates from the Cleveland County Homemakers Association
She recently moved to Grace Living Center in Edmond where the
family would like to thank the staff, with special thanks to Mario.
The family would also like to thank Odyssey Healthcare with
Hospice. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in
Norman.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Herbert, two brothers, William and Melvin Buchanan, sister Grace
and son-in-law, Wayne C. Smith. Survivors include her daughter,
Twyla Smith of Edmond, OK; son, Gary Hunt and wife, Quyen of
The Colony, TX; three grandchildren, Becki Smith, Debbie Haas and
husband, Don, all of Edmond, OK. and Chris Hunt of Plano, TX; two
great-grandchildren, Rachel Cummins and Matt Smith of Oklahoma
City, OK; brother-in-law, Orville Hunt of Norman and many nieces
and nephews.
