Juanita C. Martin

Longtime area resident Juanita C. Martin of Shawnee died Saturday in a local nursing home. She was 81.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at South Rock Creek Baptist Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. Reed Lynn will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home.

She was born March 23, 1917, in Konawa to George E. and Iva Summers and was reared and attended school in Konawa. She married Raymond L. Martin in Konawa on June 27, 1937. She had lived in Shawnee since 1958.

Mrs. Martin was a member of South Rock Creek Baptist Church and past matron of Murrow Chapter No. 464, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond L. Martin, of the home; sons, Tommy D. Lehman, Seminole, and Dardennell Fields, Grandbury, Texas; five grandchildren; brothers, Clifton Summers, Burbank, Calif., and Bill Summers, Alabama, and sister, Carmelitta Reynolds, Stillwater.

Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant daughter, two brothers and one sister.

Hadley H. Branson

Retired farmer and equipment operator Hadley H. Branson died Sunday in a Tecumseh nursing home. He was 83.

He was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Tecumseh to Samuel and Lulu (Birtchfield) Branson. He married Jessie O. Shirey on Nov. 1, 1935, in Tecumseh. He was a farmer and a heavy equipment operator for Pottawatomie County and a member of First Baptist Church of Heavener.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie, and daughter, Bobbie St. Clair, both of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Sandy Branson, Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Dean Davis, Purcell, Eldena and Kenneth Wade, and Joveta and Robert Owen, all of Shawnee; daughters-in-law, Coleen Branson, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; Jeanie Branson, Ada; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Almeda Foust, Denver, Colo., Thelma Tarbox, Norman, Betty Melot, Tecumseh, Nova Brewer, Shawnee, Vera Claxton, Ardmore, and Violet Brock, Spiro, and many other relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Ronnie Branson and Billy Don Branson; one great-grandson; three brothers; and one sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W.F. Crow officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Mary Irene Jones

Mary Irene Jones died Saturday in a Tecumseh nursing home at the age of 87.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at St. Gregory's Abbey with the Right Rev. Martin Lugo, O.S.B., and her son, Brother Justin Jones, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

She was born April 24, 1911, in St. Mary's, Ky., the daughter of J.K. and Naomi (Gootee) Warren. She had lived in Tecumseh for 20 years and was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Survivors include her sons, Harold Paul Jones and Brother Justin Jones, both of Shawnee; daughter, Nancy Ball, Carthage, Texas; one brother, Leo Warren, Shawnee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, four brothers and one sister.

Nellie J. Harlin

Shawnee resident Nellie J. Harlin died Saturday at the age of 87.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Tecumseh with Cecil Wayne Harlin and Jerry States officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Further arrangements are pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home.

Lorrie Kay (Burton) Johnson

Shawnee resident Lorrie Kay (Burton) Johnson died Saturday in Oklahoma City at the age of 21.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Evangelistic Center in Shawnee with the Rev. Mickey Keith officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Further arrangements are pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home.

Janna Robbins

Services for Janna Robbins, 53, of Longview, Texas, sister of Oteka Ball of Shawnee, were held May 28 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Al Rodriguez officiating. She died May 25 in Longview of cancer.

She was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Madill to Reuel and Oteka Little. She was a graduate of the Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas, and received her bachelor of science degree in communications, with specialization in television, from Boston University. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho scholastic honor society. She received a first class engineering license from Elkins Institute in Dallas and began a career in television as assistant producer, engineer and director in Oklahoma City.

She also was an English and French teacher in Seminole before becoming First Lady of Oklahoma in 1975 when David Boren was elected governor. She helped establish the Office of Children and Youth for the state, was chairman of Explorer Scouts of Oklahoma and was involved in numerous other activities. She received the "Ladies in the News" award.

In 1976, she married John Clinton Robbins and moved to Longview, Texas, where she became active in Trinity Episcopal Church, Junior League of Longview, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae, Daughters of the American Revolution, Gregg County Women's Crisis Center, AAUW, and PEO. With her sister-in-law, Dorothy Robbins Kennedy, she founded an international jewelry and luggage design business, Jan Dorche Designs. She served on the boards of Trinity School of Texas, the Hockaday School, Girls Scouts of America and Longview Public Library.

She is survived by her husband, John Clinton Robbins; daughter, Carrie Boren; son, Dan Boren; mother, Oteka Little; brother, Jack Little; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Prudence Little, of Madill; sister and brother-in-law, Oteka and Jerry Ball of Shawnee, and many other relatives.

Joquita Renee' Cooper

Joquita Renee' Cooper died Sunday at her residence in Mesquite, Nevada. She was 41.

Cooper was born June 24, 1956, in Seminole to Leonard F. and Jo Ann Edgell Cooper. She graduated from Varnum High School in 1974.

After graduating, Cooper moved to Las Vegas where she worked for Marina Hotel, and later Vacation Village. She moved to Mesquite in 1995 where she worked for Virgin River Hotel.

Survivors include sisters, Karla Strozier, Shreveport, La.; Lenella Jane Phillips, Las Vegas; Lisa Cooper, Las Vegas; Margo Webber, Seminole; brothers, Butch Cooper, Las Vegas; Richard Cooper, Paden; Leonard Kent Cooper, Montezuma Creek, Utah; friend, DeWanda Edgell, Seminole; 11 nieces and nephews, seven great nieces and nephews; eight aunts and six uncles.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Seminole Latter Day Saints Ward Chapel. Burial will follow in Little Cemetery, Little, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Claud Brock

Lifelong area rancher Claud Brock of Macomb died Thursday in Shawnee at the age of 87.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Claud Brock was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Old Burnett, Okla., the son of Charlie and Hettie (Stewart) Brock. He married Mary Huskey in Pauls Valley on April 20, 1931.

Brock was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie and Murray counties. He farmed and ranched and had retired from Pottawatomie County District 2 in 1975. He also was a horse trainer and trader.

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, six sisters, one brother and two granddaughters.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Norma Brock, Jim Brock, all of Shawnee; Bob and Kathy Brock, Marietta; Randy and LaDonna Brock, Macomb; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Frank Sisney, Molly and Herk Henderson, Judy and Bud Patten, all of Macomb; brother, Charles Brock, Oklahoma City; sister, Lora Mae Woods, Ada; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Judy Kathryn Meek

Judy Kathryn Meek of Bethany, daughter of Virgiel Woods of Shawnee, died Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 56.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rusty Williams will officiate. The casket will not be opened at the service.

She was born July 19, 1941, in Shawnee and was raised in Texas. She graduated from high school in Phillips, Texas, and attended North West School of Nursing in Amarillo, Texas. She also had lived in Colorado.

She moved to Oklahoma in July 1997 and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, David Michael Meek, Bethany; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Jill and Shawn Beauprez, Longmont, Colo.; mother, Virgiel Woods, Shawnee; brother, Larry Woods, Shawnee; sister, Donna Fielding, Bethany, and many other relatives.

Her father preceded her in death.

John W. West Jr.

John W. West Jr., 75, died Thursday at his Shawnee home.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Shields Church of the Nazarene, Oklahoma City, with the Rev. Leon Sutterfield officiating. Services also will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home, Lebanon, Mo.

Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery, Phillipsburg, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Haven, Kan., the son of John W. and Ida Mae (Tear) West. He attended school in Lebanon, Mo. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and retired from the Air Force and from Tinker Air Force Base, where he was a quality inspector.

He married Juanita Gage on Feb. 23, 1944, in Overland, Kan. He lived in Shawnee and Oklahoma City for 32 years and was a member of Shields Church of the Nazarene where he served on the board.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of the home; three daughters, Sherry Lee Chance, Plano, Texas; Brenda Sue Martin, Moore; Carol Ann Smith, Azle, Texas; three sons, John West III, Moore; Charles Richard West, Shawnee; Michael Dennis West, Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Todd West, Fisher, Ind.; Dwite West, Camdenton, Mo.; Wade West, Phillipsburg, Mo.; Jackie Dean West and Harry Don West, both of Lebanon, Mo.; sisters, Pauline Keith, Tulsa; Rosa Lee Downing, Inola; Wanda Jo Knight, Dallas, Texas; Anna Sue Holland, Deleon, Texas, and many other relatives.

His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
