Mildred Ruth Leigh

Mrs. Mildred Ruth Leigh of Bartlesville, mother of Sandra Kinsey of Tecumseh, died Saturday at the age of 83.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. today at Fairlawn Cemetery at Stillwater. The Rev. Tom Kirby will officiate. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home of Bartlesville. Memorial donations for arthritis research may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73104-5097.

She was born April 23, 1915, at Mound Valley, Kan., to Isaiah and Mary Elizabeth (Carter) Stroud. She was reared and educated in Arkansas and Colorado and graduated from high school in DeNoya, Okla., in 1933. She worked as a hairdresser for a time and was a homemaker. She married H.B. "Peck" Leigh on Oct. 23, 1949, at Bentonville, Ark. They had lived in Stillwater, Ponca City, Bowring and Yale while he was active in ranching, construction and insurance. They retired to Bartlesville in 1973.

Surviving are her daughters, Pam Williams, Bokchito, and Sandra Kinsey, Tecumseh; stepdaughter, Linda Hughes, Claremore; stepson, Bill Leigh, Vian; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Leigh was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H.B. "Peck" Leigh; son, Randy Nelson; sister, Mabel Fleming, and brother, Frank Stroud.

Jacquelee Dawson Lusk

Moore resident Jacquelee Dawson Lusk, 68, died Saturday at a Midwest City hospital.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at John Ireland Funeral Home, Moore.

She was born in St. Louis, Okla., on March 1, 1930, to W.E. and Iva Dawson and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1947. She married Donald Lusk on March 15, 1954.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Rachael Lusk, Moore; daughter, Donette Ashford, Moore; sisters, Wanda Burton, Shawnee; and Rosemary Briggs; brother-in-law, D.A. Briggs; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Rosie Dawson, Shawnee, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Lusk; infant son, Jerry Bryan, her parents and one brother, Bill.

Hazel Iona Howell

Longtime area resident Hazel Iona Howell died Sunday in a Prague nursing home at the age of 86.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Tecumseh Mission Cemetery with Vernon Markwell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

She was born July 16, 1911, in Fox, Ark., the daughter of Thelbert and Martha Files Woodworth. She had lived in the Shawnee and Prague area since 1927. She married Carliss Howell in 1941 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Howell was a member of the Church of Christ in Shawnee and a member of the VFW Auxiliary for 40 years.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Carliss Howell, in 1962; her parents; six sisters; and one brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to muscular dystrophy.

Fred Edward Romberg

Area builder and lumber yard owner Fred Edward Romberg died Sunday in a local hospital at the age of 56.

He was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Shawnee to Vaughn and Jasmine (Morrow) Romberg. He was reared in the Shawnee and South Rock Creek areas and attended South Rock Creeks Schools. He married Karen McConnell on March 13, 1975, in Holdenville.

He was a home builder and owned and operated several lumber yards in the area. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Holdenville and had served in the U.S. Army Reserve 95th Division.

Surviving are his wife, Karen, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kerry and Christian Murdock, Louisville, Ky.; granddaughter, McKennah Smythe Murdock; mother, Jasmine Romberg, Holdenville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Yvonne and Paul Verstrat, Burlington, Iowa, Sandra Johnson, Holdenville, and Ann and Kenneth Bowlan, Shawnee; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father and his son, Clinton.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Holdenville, with the Rev. Earl Stephenson officiating. Burial will be at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Daniel Ignatius Junk

Former Shawnee resident Daniel Ignatius Junk, 69, Austin, Texas, died Thursday.

He was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Shawnee to Theodore and Mae Junk.

He graduated from Shawnee High School and then served in the U.S. Army. He moved in 1959 to Austin, where he married Frances Maldonado in 1960. He managed a King Burger restaurant before opening Dan's Burgers in 1973.

He is survived by his wife; seven children and their spouses, Mary and Joe Bialaszewski, Edward and Kelley Terrazas, Katherine and Philip Congdon, Michael Junk, and John and Lore Junk, all of Austin; Yvonne and Charles Wilson, Lewisville, Texas; and Leo A. "Tony" and Nannette Junk; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters Katherine Speer and Anna Mae Junk, both of Shawnee; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Qualls, McKinney, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers John Albert Junk and Theodore Junk Jr.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B., officiating.

Eleanor Mae Clarke

Tecumseh resident Eleanor Mae Clarke died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 71.

Private graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home, with Father Charles Mossoth officiating.

Mrs. Clarke was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Hamden, Mass., to Thomas Phillips and Mary Margaret Hackett Phillips. She graduated high school in Springfield, Mass., and attended George Washington University, Washington, D.C. She was a bookkeeper and cashier.

She moved from Springfield to Tecumseh in 1981 and worked at Wal-Mart before retiring in 1991.

She attended St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Samantha Clarke, Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Tim Sparks, Tecumseh; Susan and Byron Searle, Rutland, Vt.; her sister Kathleen Phillips, Springfield, Mass.; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Searle, Matthew Searle, Casey Sparks, Mitchell Sparks, Krystal Sparks, Dakota Sparks and Drake Clarke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Clarke in 1978; her parents, Thomas Phillips and Mary Margaret Hackett Phillips; two sisters, Claire Lawlor; Joyce Constedine; brother, Murray Phillips.

George Woodrow Keller

Chandler resident George Woodrow "Woodie" Keller died Friday in Shawnee. He was 83.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chandler Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Thom Chappelle officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Chandler, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, and 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Keller was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Chandler to George and Nancy (Martin) Keller. He married Addie Mae Brocaw April 18, 1936, in Chandler.

He lived most of his life in the Chandler area, where he was the owner of an electrical and refrigeration company.

He was a charter member of the Chandler Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Addie Mae, of the home; two sons, Gary Keller, Chandler; Charles Keller, Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

Larry Dwaine Bales

Shawnee resident Larry Dwaine Bales died Friday at his home. He was 54.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Goins officiating.

Bales was born June 29, 1943, in Shawnee to Lloyd Edwin and Ruby Jean (Rose) Bales. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1962. He had lived in the Shawnee area most of his life.

He was a self-employed auto dealer and was a member of South Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Marlene Bales, Bristow; Shawn and Faith Bales, Edmond; son, Aaron Bales, Muskogee; daughter, Cathrine Bales, Muskogee; sister, Connie Bales Reed, of the home; many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
