Dakota Joe Blakley

Dakota Joe Blakley died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 6.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Church of Christ with the Rev. Tom Hall officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Dakota was born July 2, 1992, in Shawnee to Darrell and Kim Blakley. He attended kindergarten at Wilson Early Childhood Center and was a member of the Golden Acres Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Darrell and Kim Blakley, Shawnee; sisters, Kristin and Destiny Blakley, of the home; grandparents, Bill and Connie Bly, Shawnee; grandfather, Charles Blakley, Shawnee; and many other relatives.

Dakota was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorris Blakley; great-grandparents, Rosie and Rhoper Bly; Martha and Owen Blakley; and Gladys and Howard Lowery.

Toys will be accepted at the service and will be donated to Children's Hospital of Oklahoma City in memory of Dakota.

Kathryn M. Nelson

Kathryn M. Nelson died Friday in a Shawnee hospital at the age of 90.

She was born April 24, 1908, in Stella, Mo., to Thomas Jefferson and Florence (Hines) Allen. She had lived much of her life in Yeager, Okla., and had worked in shipyards during World War II. She married Robert Nelson in 1956 and was a homemaker and also worked as a press operator at Sunshine Laundry in La Jolla, Calif.

Her husband preceded her in death in December 1963.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Stella Allen, Yeager; special friend, Jimmie Lathman, Dallas, Texas, seven nephews and one niece.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Oakhill Cemetery of Yeager with Meredith Robinson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.

Myrtle Wells Pownall

Myrtle Wells Pownall, 83, McLoud, died Monday in a local nursing home.

She was born Nov. 24, 1914, in McLoud to Jim and Flora Wells. She graduated from Choctaw High School. She married Frank Pownall, who died during World War II. She lived in Oklahoma City for 60 years.

She is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and one sister.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Cindy Schillinger officiating. Burial will be in Jamison Cemtery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home.

William E. Rogers

William E. Rogers, 79, Shawnee, died Sunday in a local nursing home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Wanette to A.K. and Emm (Powers) Rogers. He attended Tecumseh Schools and Neff's Business College.

He married Eliza Mae Stephens on Dec. 26, 1940, in Chandler and was a salesperson for C&H Wholesale. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1940 to June 1945 and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans, as well as a past commander of the VFW.

He was also a member of the Highland Church of Christ, Tecumseh.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Boyd Pylant, Canadian; Sharon and Doug Gaines, Canadian; Sandra and Don Smithey, Shawnee; son William E. Rogers, Midwest City; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Eva Rogers, Shawnee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marvin and Margaret Stephens, Miami; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter; a sister; and five brothers.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Bob Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Hugh Lynn Hendershot

Shawnee resident Hugh Lynn Hendershot died Friday in Shawnee. He was 89.

Hendershot was born June 26, 1909, in Holton, Kan., to the Rev. Charles Arthur and Mary Edith (McMullin) Hendershot.

He married Loretta G. Dawson on Feb. 22, 1937, in Kansas City, Kan. She preceded him in death in 1997.

He graduated from Kansas State College in 1935 with a GS in physics and chemistry. He was a senior design engineer for North American-Rockwell in basic metallurgy, experimental stress analysis and space technology until his retirement in 1969. He also taught electricity and radio at Kansas State College in 1941.

He was a Mason for 51 years with the Spartan Lodge No. 126 in Millersburg, Ohio. He also was a member of the United States Power Squadron of Tulsa and Columbus, Ohio, as well as a Boy Scout leader. He attended St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Shawnee.

Survivors include his sister, Elsie Keys, Tucson, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1960; brothers, Philo and Chester; and two sisters, Lucille Buffin and Vivean Learned.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Hamilton officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill Cemetery.

Ernest M. Wolfe

Jones resident Ernest M. Wolfe died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 89.

Wolfe was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Coyle to Frank A. and Leola Nettie (Byerly) Wolfe.

He married Vera Couch in 1933.

He graduated from State Center School in 1933. He was an active member of the Choctaw Seventh Day Adventist Church and served on many community, church-related and school boards.

Survivors include his wife, Vera, of the home; daughters, Barbara Gepford, Harrah, Donna Krogstad, Newbury Park, Calif., Judy Krueger, McKenzie, N.D.; sisters, LaVonia Smith, Denver, Colo., LoVelle Young and Alta Mae Chase, both of Jones, Miriam Pound, Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard; sister, Leonora; and grandson, Jon Krueger.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Summit Ridge Seventh Day Adventist Church in Harrah, with Pastor Max Trevino officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Jones.

Carmel L. Boydston

Edmond resident Carmel L. Boydston died Thursday in Midwest City. She was 87.

Mrs. Boydston was born Oct. 29, 1911, in Rally Hill, Ark., to William Riley and Eliza Elmeda (Stone) Young.

She married Eugene Boydston on Dec. 2, 1931, in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She graduated from high school at Luther. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Edmond as well as a member of Business Women's Association. She was a homemaker as well as a bookkeeper for Snyder's Hardware until her retirement.

Survivors include her sons, Bob Boydston, Lindsay, and Don Boydston, Shawnee; brother, Harold Young, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Bobby and Toby Boydston, both of Lindsay, Brent Boydston, Durant, and Kim Boydston, Norman; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Edmond, with the Rev. Dr. Kyle Maxwell officiating. Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay.

Bonnie Jo Purdy

Wanette resident Bonnie Jo Purdy died Thursday in Wanette. She was 43.

Mrs. Purdy was born Jan. 6, 1956, in Oklahoma City to Joseph Thomas and Bonnie Lou Craighead Newberry.

She was raised and attended school in Asher. She worked at Wanette schools for two years. She lived in Wanette for five years, moving there from Indiana.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Leanna, Asher; daughter, Donna Gregg, Wanette; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bill Eastwood, Wynnewood; grandchildren, Christopher Gregg, Ashley McMillan and Matthew Gregg, Wanette; aunt, Ruth Vanderburg, Wynnewood; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wanette First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Craig Brandt officiating. Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery, under the direction of Wadley's Funeral Service of Purcell.
