Blanche Lorene Skillings

Shawnee resident Blanche Lorene Skillings died Thursday at her home. She was 72.

Mrs. Skillings was born Nov. 2, 1926, southwest of Yukon to William and Pauline Horlivy.

She married Henry "Harry" Skillings on April 16, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1976.

She graduated from Yukon High School in 1944 and attended Central State University in Edmond. She taught elementary school in Canadian County and helped her husband in a coin-operated amusement business for 20 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Zinnia Garden Club.

Survivors include her grandsons, Chris and Chuck Skillings, both of Shawnee, and Ben Skillings, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Parker and Brady, Shawnee, and Gaberielle and Sierra, Kansas; niece, Rhonda Deer, Loveland, Colo.; nephew, Eric Horlivy, Yukon; and many aunts, uncles and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jack Skillings; and her brother, Paul Horlivy.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Karen Fowler-Lindemulder. Private burial services for family only will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The casket will be open until 9 a.m. Tuesday and will not be open at or after the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee, Shawnee Regional Hospital, 1102 W. MacArthur, Shawnee, Okla. 74804, or to St. John Lutheran Church, 215 W. Wallace, Shawnee, Okla. 74801.

Inez Pipkin

Midwest City resident Inez Pipkin died Wednesday in a Midwest City hospital. The former Shawnee resident was 93.

Mrs. Pipkin was born April 6, 1906, in Bowie, Texas.

She married Roy Pipkin on Sept. 12, 1928. He preceded her in death in 1983.

She graduated from Shawnee High School. She was a member of the Wallace Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Jeannine Lowery and Geraldine Wilkinson, both of Midwest City; son, Roy Lee Pipkin, Bedford, Texas; sister, Doris Hines, Midwest City; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several sisters and one brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. DuWayne Colvin officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Howard K. Ludlum

Shawnee resident Howard K. Ludlum, 74, died Friday at his home.

Ludlum was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Humboldt, Kan., to Franklin and Pearl Ludlum.

He married Thelma L. Martin on Nov. 22, 1947, in Dallas City, Ill.

He was raised in Dallas City, Ill. He moved to Shawnee in 1953, but later to moved to Boise, Idaho. He returned to Shawnee in 1974.

He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked as a consultant for American Oil Co. He also was a deacon and member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Ludlum, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Kelly Ludlum, Phoenix, Ariz., and Kris and Gayla Ludlum, San Diego, Calif.; brother, M.L. Ludlum, Shawnee, and Harold Ludlum, Rockwall, Texas; sister, Erma Clanton, Dallas City, Ill.; sister- and brother-in-law, Margaret A. and W.A. Anderson, Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Benjamin and Elmer Ludlum; and a sister, Ruth VanArx.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Dr. James Sill and the Rev. Dan Reihing officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

John Kevin McCormick

John Kevin McCormick, brother of Shawnee News-Star Managing Editor Mike McCormick, died Wednesday at the family home in Oklahoma City. He was 41.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Oklahoma City with the Rev. Philip M. Donohoe officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith and Kernke Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

John Kevin McCormick was born Nov. 21, 1956, in Oklahoma City, the son of John and Roberta McCormick. He attended St. Eugene Catholic School and graduated from Bishop McGuinness High School in 1975. He earned an associate degree from Oklahoma State Tech, Oklahoma City, and worked in the construction industry.

He was preceded in death by his father, John McCormick, and infant brother, Timothy McCormick.

Survivors include his mother, Roberta McCormick, of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Pat McCormick, Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Randy Giese, Oklahoma City; his daughter, Jackie, Oklahoma City; three nieces, Meghan McCormick, Shawnee; Kara and Audrey Giese, both of Oklahoma City; special friend, Crystal Dunn, Oklahoma City, and many other relatives.

Regis James Sharp

Regis James "Rick" Sharp, brother of Wyema Williams of Shawnee, died Sunday at his home in Noble following a battle with cancer. He was 53.

He was born Feb. 17, 1945, at Purcell to James L. and Christine (Woodrow) Sharp. He was a lifelong resident of Cleveland County and graduated from Noble High School in 1964.

He served in the U.S. Army beginning in May 1966 and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He married Cathy Jane Phelan on Dec. 4, 1969, and they lived in Enid, where he was employed by Martin Rat Hole Drilling. They returned to Noble in 1971 where he started Sharp Drilling which continues as a family business.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Christine Sharp; brother, Arthur Duane, and sister, Treva Suella.

He is survived by his father, James Sharp, Noble; his wife, Cathy, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Wanda Sharp, Scotty and Natasha Sharp, all of Noble; sister and brother-in-law, Wyema and Homer Williams, Shawnee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Troy and Dorothy Phelan, Noble; three grandsons, Derrick and Darin Morgan and Dylan Sharp, Noble; special family member, Eduardo "Shorty" Ramos, of the home; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wynn and Leon Bray, Houston, Texas; Bonnie and Jim Mort, Marilee Phelan, all of Springfield, Colo.; Sherise and Roy Henry, Copan; Sylvia Sue and Rodney Robinson, Norman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Troy Jr. and Janie Phelan, Shamrock, Texas; Rory Phelan, Solvang, Calif., and many other relatives.

Services were Thursday at First Baptist Church, Noble, with the Rev. Lee Pace officiating. Burial was at Fairview (Maguire) Cemetery, Noble, under the direction of McMahans Funeral Home, Noble.

Luther Bryant Dyer

Former Shawnee resident Luther Bryant Dyer died Thursday in a Lakeland, Fla., hospital. He was 73.

He was born in Haileyville, Okla., on Sept. 9, 1924. He grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

The Rev. Dyer was staff evangelist for First Baptist Church of Del City for several years and pastored churches in Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee and Florida. He had lived in Lakeland, Fla., since 1982, and was a member of Lakeland First Baptist Church.

He earned a doctorate degree from Southwestern University in Missouri and held several leadership positions in the Southern Baptist Convention. He also was former director of mission of the South Florida Baptist Association.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda L. Dyer, Lakeland, Fla.; daughter, Melinda Lee Browder, Lakeland; four grandsons and two nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Lakeland, Fla., under the direction of Lakeland Funeral Home.

Steven Wayne Finefrock

Steven Wayne Finefrock, 48, died Thursday at his McLoud home.

He was born July 17, 1949, in Oklahoma City to Emory and Joyce Finefrock. He was raised in the Oklahoma City area and graduated from Putnam City High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Central State University and had worked for OG&E for more than 20 years.

He married Lanell Ezell in Fort Smith, Ark., in 1992 and attended Dale Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Lanell Finefrock, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Jennifer Finefrock, Searcy, Ark.; son, Daniel Finefrock, McLoud; stepdaughter, Christy Amburgey, Rogers, Ark.; parents, Emory and Joyce Finefrock, Yukon; brother, David Finefrock, Yukon; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Jim Hodge, Yukon, and many other relatives.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dewayne Thomas officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at McKendree Cemetery near Subiaco, Ark. The casket will be open until service time and will not be opened afterward.

William Joseph Pfrehm

William Joseph Pfrehm, 76, Wewoka, died Friday in Oklahoma City.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1922, in Boston, Mass., to William Edward and Ann Marie (Monahan) Pfrehm. He served as a lieutenant, junior grade, in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Shirley Frances Byram on Dec. 26, 1944, in Norman. He moved to Seminole County from Oklahoma City in 1972. He retired from OG&E in 1981, and he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, James Paul Pfrehm, Durant; daughter, Sharyn Ann Waite, Guthrie; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Basil Keenan, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th, Oklahoma City, 73104.
