Henry Dean Friend

Henry Dean Friend, former Prague and Sparks resident, died Thursday. He was 85.

Friend was born June 3, 1914, in Hammond, Mo. to Bret and Clara Friend. He graduated from Oklahoma City University with a law degree and had served as acting postmaster in Oklahoma City. He later retired as ground safety officer at the F.A.A.

A former Oklahoma City resident, he was a Mason and member of Christ United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Otis Rogers, Mustang; daughter-in-law, Jerri Gillispie, Prague; grandchildren, Mark Rodgers and his wife, Jill, Plano, Texas; Carrie Stevenson and her husband, Chris, Pleasant Grove, Utah; Brian Friend and his wife Buffy, Perry; Aubree Holsapple and her husband, Scott, Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Herb Valentine, Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Martha Ivens; six great-grandchildren, Heath, Tyler, Sean, Ty, Mitchell and MacKensie; nieces and nephews, Doug, Pam, Debbie, Mike and Marilyn; and friend, Irene Coomer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tinch and Kelly Friend; his wife, Mary; and son, Ron.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the North Colonial Chapel of Vondel Smith Mortuary, Oklahoma City.

Laura Mae Brown

Laura Mae Brown died Friday in Oklahoma City. She was 81.

Mrs. Brown was born June 28, 1918, in Stroud to Edward L. and Turia (McGahey) Castleberry. She married Clifton James Brown on June 24, 1940, in Stroud.

She had lived in Bristow and moved to Oklahoma City in 1960. She retired from JCPenney and was a member of the Springdale Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in December of 1989; her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud with the Rev. Cal Hunter officiating.

Bertha Mae Gooch

Bertha Mae Gooch died Friday in Cushing. She was 87.

Mrs. Gooch was born Nov. 28, 1911, in Avery to Granville and Elizabeth (Bruce) Gooch. She had lived in the Avery and Stroud area all her life and was a member of the Stroud Christian Church.

She retired from Oak Grove School, where she taught for many years and was a member of the Teacher Retirement Association.

Survivors include one sister, Ruby Haskin, Cushing; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Stroud Christian Church with Harvey Wilson and Randy Ethridge officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.

Olivia Marie Price Falgout

Olivia "Peggy" Marie Price Falgout, 83, Morgan City, La., died Thursday in Shawnee.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Elaine Lamey, Shawnee; three sons, Donald Lewis Falgout, Lafayette, La.; Glen Michael Falgout and Robert Alan Falgout, both of Morgan City, La.; brother Morris Price, New Orleans, La.; five sisters, Doris Landry, McComb, Miss.; Bertha Wooters, Patterson, La.; Hilda Antoon and Louise Morrow, both of Baton Rouge, La.; and Edith Revels, Liberty, Miss.; 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a sister.

Visitation will be held 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at Hargrave Funeral Home, Morgan City, La. Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Morgan City, La.

Roxie Brown

Former Shawnee resident Roxie Brown, 83, died Monday at her residence in Wildomar, Calif.

She was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Kilgore, Texas, to Bill and Emma Simpson. She married Louis Brown. She was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by her sons, Noel Rosser, Moore, and John Rosser, Wildomar, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Trinity Chapel, Resthaven Memorial Park with Pastor Fred H. Owens officiating.

Dicie Ann Klassen

Dicie Ann Klassen, 94, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a a local nursing home.

She was born Dec. 22, 1903, in Arkansas to Tom and Mary (Lawson) Bryce. She had lived in Shawnee since 1970, moving here from California. She was a member of the First Church of God.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Dorothy Hoefler, Lewisport, Ky.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one daughter, and all of her brothers and sisters.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kresten Norholm officiating. Burial will be in Blackburn Chapel Cemetery.

Walter W. Cochran

Walter W. "Chief" Cochran, 70, Prague, died Friday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Shawnee to Walter Lee "June" and Juanita (Harjo) Cochran. He graduated in 1945 from Paden High School, and he served in the U.S. Navy. He married Jane Hall in Prague on Dec. 22, 1951. He worked for Grimes Farm Store, Prague, from 1949 until he and his wife bought the business in 1971. He operated Cochran's TV and Appliances until retiring in February 1998. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Prague.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; mother-in-law Christiana Hall, Prague; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Pat Hall, Seminole; Johnny and Betty Hall, Prague; and Jim and Carol Hall, Purcell; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doreatha and Arlie Johnson, Prague; uncle Clifford Harjo, Tulsa; aunt Viola Harjo, Byng; and several cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague, with Bro. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will be in Prague Cemetery.

Lena I. McClendon

Lena I. "Jackie" McClendon of Paden died Tuesday in Tulsa. She was 77.

She was born May 20, 1921, in Paden to Taylor B. and F. Ola (Davis) Muncy and she graduated from Paden High School. She married Joe McClendon in Mexico on Feb. 20, 1954.

She had retired from AT&T and was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America chapter 94. She also was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Clyde and Bernard Muncy; sister, Hazel Muncy, and great-granddaughter, Katie Taylor.

Survivors include her husband, Joe McClendon, Tecumseh; daughters and sons-in-law, Verna and Sam Fipps, Paden; Sharon and Bill Bell, Shawnee; Kaylene McClendon, Oklahoma City; son, Jerome McClendon, Tribbey; son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Jean Adams, Vian; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Toots Muncy, Paden; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Harold Rogers, Maxine and Floyd Raines, Bettye and Barney Robison, all of Paden; sisters-in-law, Maggie Muncy, California; Odra Muncy, Oklahoma City; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Leroy Buckmaster, Bethel Acres; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church of Prague with the Rev. Kevin Wehrli officiating. Burial will be at Paden Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Hattie Alvina Seebeck

Longtime Seminole resident Hattie Alvina Seebeck died on Monday. She was 96.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole. The Rev. Gary Brandt will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens east of Seminole.

Hattie Alvin Seebeck was born Jan. 5, 1902, in Brenham, Texas, to John and Bertha Helm. She was a lifelong Lutheran and attended St. John Lutheran Church in Shawnee until 1980. In 1982, she became a founding member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Shawnee.

She married Albert F. Seebeck on Jan. 14, 1923, and they lived in Geary, Oklahoma City, Wellston and Shawnee before settling in Seminole. They built their own three-bedroom home in 1947; he was a carpenter, and she was a paperhanger.

Survivors include her son Melvin, Ada; daughter and son-in-law Bernita and Bill Coble, Shawnee; grandson Melvin Lynn, Ada; granddaughter Melisa Stringer, Port Aransas, Texas; great-grandson Matthew Stringer and great-granddaughter Madeline Stringer, both of Port Aransas, Texas; great-granddaughter Angela Seebeck, Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter-in-law Lucille; and her brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 39207 W. MacArthur Blvd., Shawnee, 74801.
