Ernie D. McMahan

Tecumseh truck driver Ernie D. McMahan died Monday in Tecumseh at the age of 64.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh with the Rev. Wayne Bryant and the Rev. Harvey Spear officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

McMahan was born March 4, 1934, in Tecumseh, to Ervin and Vestie (Young) McMahan. He attended school in Tecumseh and served with the U.S. Navy. On Jan. 27, 1956, in Tecumseh, he married Jewel Potter.

He was a lifetime resident of Tecumseh and drove trucks for American Farmlines, Transcon and had driven for Gilbert and Sons Trucking for more than 10 years. He attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Shawnee.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel McMahan of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and David Young of Tecumseh; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Judy McMahan, James and Ellen McMahan, all of Tecumseh; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Martin Friar of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Amy, Dug and Jamy McMahan, all of Tecumseh, Angie and Wade Stuteville of Norman; and a special friend, Beverly (George) Chapline of Tecumseh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Sara Virginia Homesley

Former Shawnee resident Sara Virginia Homesley, Oklahoma City, died Sunday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 76.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Paradise Baptist Church in Oklahoma City with the Rev. F.D. Roseborough officiating.

She was born April 18, 1922, in Charlotte, N.C., to Sylvester "Max" and Helen Wilson Homesley. She attended and graduated from Dunbar High School in Shawnee and was a member of the Union Baptist Church and Paradise Family Church, where she served as an usher. She also worked with the WMU.

Survivors include two nieces, Barbara K. Collins of Shawnee, Marion DeLores Edwards of Oklahoma City; a nephew, LeRoy S. Homesley of Seattle, Wash.; two grandnephews, Timothy and Gregory Ratliff; and several other relatives and friends.

Tyra Elizabeth Marie Harrison

Infant daughter of Nancy Ann Harrison, Tyra Elizabeth Marie Harrison, Maud, died Sunday at an Ada hospital.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Wolf Cemetery with Dave Thomas officiating, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

She was born Aug. 9, 1998, in Ada, to Nancy Ann Harrison.

Survivors include her mother; her grandparents, George and Carolyn Harrison of Maud; a great-grandmother, Beulah Brown of Maud; a brother, Joseph Albert Harrison of the home; an uncle, Keith Harrison of Maud.

Bernice Parks Aldrich

Former area resident Bernice Parks Aldrich of Enid died Friday at the age of 86.

She was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Paden to Roy and Grace B. Parks. The family moved to Prague when she was young and she grew up there and graduated from Prague High School.

She attended Oklahoma College for Women and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She taught home economics at Sand Springs and Seminole.

She married Merlyn A. Aldrich in Prague on June 1, 1940. They lived in Enid for more than 35 years and he preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Aldrich was a longtime member of Enid First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Association, PEO Chapter Q and the Weavers' Guild of Oklahoma City.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann A. Fugate, Wichita, Kan., a grandson and a great-grandson.

Also preceding her in death was her brother, Robert "Bob" Parks.

Services were Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Enid, with the Rev. Jerry Rice officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home, Enid. Memorials may be made to Enid First Presbyterian Church or PEO Educational Loan Fund in care of Brown Funeral Home.

Roy D. Marler

Longtime Shawnee resident and civic leader Roy D. Marler died Saturday in a Midwest City hospital. He was 65.

Marler was born on June 2, 1934, in Shawnee, the son of Roy and Agnes Marler.

He graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma Baptist University.

Marler married Joy Lea Farmer on June 30, 1961.

He was a third generation Marler in Marler Construction Company and was the company's owner.

Marler was a member of First Baptist Church and the Gideon Society.

He also was a member of the local Cement Finisher's and Plasterer's Union No. 272, a 32nd Degree Mason in the McAlester Consistory and in Shawnee Chapter No. 32.

Marler was a Shriner with the Royal Arch Masons, India Temple, of Oklahoma City and the Shawnee Shrine Club.

He was active in the Scottish Rite Society of Oklahoma, Shawnee Commandery No. 36, Knights Templar, Shawnee Council No. 26, and Royal and Select Masters of Shawnee.

Marler served on the Shawnee School Board from 1965-1981, was a member of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, Shawnee All-Sports, Shawnee Jaycees, Shawnee Lion's Club, Harley Owner's Group (HOGs), University of Oklahoma Basketball Tip-In Club and The University of Oklahoma Inner Circle Letterman's Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Marler Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Joy; son, Gary Marler; daughter, Melissa Marler; daughter-in-law, Jane Marler; his mother, Agnes Marler-Young; two sisters, Elaine Cook and Colleen Crawford; two grandchildren, Raeschel Marler and Kailey Childers; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee and the American Cancer Society.

Services will be 10 a.m. today, at First Baptist Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Dr. Jerry Ball officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.

Ruby Belle (Cook) Terrell

Ruby Belle (Cook) Terrell, Shawnee, died Saturday in a local hospital. She was 93.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1906, in Clinton, Ark., the daughter of Frank and Nancy Elizabeth (Cooper) Cook.

She married Robert Arnold Terrell in 1921 in the Garden Grove community.

Mrs. Terrell and her husband owned and operated Terrell's Grocery from 1948 to 1964. She was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Seminole County.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and Garden Grove Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Terrell; her parents, Frank and Nancy Cook; a son; three sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Melvin Underwood, Seminole, and Norma Houston, Shawnee; a daughter-in-law, Helen Terrell, Seminole; two sisters, Ruth Nordyke, Odessa, Texas; Pearl Denney, Prague; and four grandchildren, Bob Terrell, Bartlesville, Nancy Rogers, Shawnee, Pat Berry, Shawnee, and Tina Crawford, Seminole.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating.

Burial will be in Garden Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Robert Wayne Ewing

Former Shawnee resident Robert Wayne Ewing, Oklahoma City, died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 92.

Ewing was born on Aug. 19, 1907, in Loco, Okla., the son of Oliver C. and Sibby Ewing.

He married Pauline Bell on Dec. 23, 1938.

Ewing attended Cameron University in Lawton and East Central University in Ada. He worked for RB&W Corporation in Los Angeles, Calif.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Ewing, in Aug. 1988, and his parents, Oliver and Sibby Ewing.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Joanie Ewing, Bennett, Colo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating.

Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee.
